17.04.10 Carterton v Carterton

27.03.10 Duclington 3 v 0 Carterton U 9's

The Champagne was put on ice in anticipation as Ducklington went into their last league game of the season against Carterton knowing a win would confirm them as Under 9's Blue League Champions and they did not disappoint.
Duck started off nervously but created the first chance of the game early on after a good passing move through midfield ending with a shot from Striker Jack Simmonds which was well save by the Carterton keeper. After the early chance the first half was short of clear cut chances for both sides but to their credit both teams were trying to pass the ball around and defended well when they needed to.
Duck Manager Steve Westwood changed things around in the second half and this seemed to push his team on knowing a draw wouldn't be good enough to finish the season as league champions. Chances started to come their way and they deservedly took the lead through a great finish after some inspired football from Lewis Westwood. Lewis Westwood then notched his second of the game after some quality midfield play with another cool finish to put his side 2-0 up and on their way to the winning the Championship. Duck kept working hard and defending when they need to knowing any lack of concentration could let Carterton back in the game. The game was wrapped up when Man of the Match and club captain Lewis Westwood slotted home his third of the match to send the home side players, management and spectators into wild celebrations.. report from WDYFL Web site

13.03.10 Carterton 1 v 2 Eynsham

A lovely sunny morning greeted these two teams for the third time this season.
Both teams started quickly and Eynsham took the lead with a Aaron McCreadie header. Just before half time Eynsham doubled their lead with another Aaron McCreadie strike.
Midway through the second half some good build up play and a good cross from the right saw Carterton pull a goal back when Liam Felstead chipped the ball over the Eynsham keeper.
Overall an excellent game to watch from the sidelines with both teams battling hard throughout.report from W&DYFL Web site

06.03.10  Witney Viking Youth 2 v 2 Carterton U 9's

Carterton caught Vikings napping and took the lead in the first move of the match with a well-taken goal. Vikings were back on level terms within a couple of minutes when Tom Davies equalized, then took the lead with a second from the same player. There were chances at either end in the second half before Carterton made it level. Vikings narrowly failed to take the lead when they hit the post with the ball refusing to cross the line in the ensuing goalmouth scramble.
In the end, a great match played with fine sportsmanship from both teams. Carterton goal scorers were Jack Romanek and Joseph Justin. report from W&DYFL Web site

Carterton took an early lead after Niall Middleton scored from a quickly taken corner. Jack Romanek doubled Carterton's lead just before half time.
Early on in the second half Wychwood pulled a goal back with Kyle Grimmett scoring past the Carterton Keeper. Carterton soon regained their two goal lead when Joseph Justin drilled a left footed shot from outside the box. With very little time left on the clock Jack Romanek scored his 2nd of the game with another left footed shot. Both teams battled hard throughout. report from W&DYFL Web site

28.11.09 Bampton Town 3 v 2 Carterton U 9's

A very tight game where Bampton had to come back twice to eventually get the decider. Full marks for fair play by both teams throughout. Goals from Liam Felstead and Jack Romanek for Carterton with a hat-trick by Oliver Crossley for Bampton.

21.11.09 Wychwood 0 v 6 Carterton U 9's

Another wet and windy morning for both of these teams. Carterton went 2-0 up at half time with goals from Tyler Flagge and Liam Felstead.
The second half started brightly for Carterton as Liam Felstead added two more goals to get his hat-trick and put Carterton 4-0 up. Ben Stephens came from the back to score Carterton's fifth and Liam Felstead rounded of the game with his fourth and Carterton's sixth.
Another good display from both teams which was appreciated by both sets of parents and spectators. match report from W&DYFL Web site

14.11.09 Under-9 Knock-Out Cup - 2nd Round Carterton U 9's 2 v 0 Wychwood

A very wet and windy morning didn't deter both sets of players from this cup tie. Both teams battled hard in the 1st half and the score was 0-0 at half time.
As the second half kicked off the wind picked up and the rain started to throw it down. Both teams battled on and the break through came when Liam Felstead's shot rifled through the Wychwood defence and sent the keeper the wrong way. Shortly afterwards, after a good passing move, the ball sat up nicely for Jack Romanek to fire in Carterton's second.
Overall both teams battled the elements and put on a good display for the spectators. report taken from W&DYFL Web site

7.11.09 Carterton U 9's 3 v 2 Witney Vikings Youth

An even first ten minutes was broken when Liam Felstead broke free in his own half and ran to just outside the Witney box and let rip with a cracking right foot shot to open the scoring. Soon after the ball broke to Ben Stephens out on the left who struck the ball sweetly to send the ball over the Witney Viking's keeper to score his 1st Carterton goal.
The second half started brightly and Carterton scored a third when Liam Felstead scored his second of the game with a well worked move and slipping the ball under the diving keeper. Witney Vikings kept battling hard and were soon rewarded by two goals scored by Josh Griffiths and Tom Davies, the second from a corner with a quality header.
Overall the game was played in good spirit and was entertaining for the crowd. report from W&DYFL Web site

31.10.09 Tower Hill Stars 0 v 2 Carterton U 9's

A great battle with end to end action from start to finish and a result that could have gone either way - but remained 0-0 at half-time.
After conceding a deflected goal to go one down Tower Hill were caught on the break to make it two. Well fought by both sides and all the boys can be proud of themselves!
Carterton scorers were Jack Romaner and Tyler Flagge. report from W&DYFL Web site

17.10.09 Carterton U 9's 0 v 2 Tower Hill

10.10.09 Eynsham Association3 v 2 Carterton U 9's

3.10.09 Carterton U 9's 0 v 5 Ducklington

Manager Steve Westwood was full of praise for his Ducklington side after this impressive 5-0 demolition over a very good Carterton side.
In difficult conditions for both sides Ducklington started off brightly and passed the ball with purpose and accuracy always looking to pass their way through Carterton rather than pumping long balls up to the front players. After tirelessly working in midfield and getting forward at every opportunity Lewis Westwood was duly rewarded with opening the scoring for Ducklington in the first half with a fine strike and followed up with another accurate finish before half time to give his side a 2-0 half time lead.
Ducklington came out for the second half full of confidence and more good passing football was rewarded with Lewis Westwood completing a fine hat-trick. Liam Varney then scored with a fine strike after battling to win the ball out on the right hand side of the box and firing past the Carterton keeper. Ducklington were still pushing for further goals and got their reward when Lewis Westwood scored his fourth goal of the match to cap off a fine display from Ducklington.
An excellent all round team performance by Ducklington and keeps their unbeaten start to the season going. match report from W&DYFL Web site

26.9.09 Under-9 Knock-Out Cup - 1st Round Carterton U 9's 2 v 1 Tower Hill

First round of the KO Cup was going to be a belter as it was the first encounter of the local derby.
Tower Hill took the lead through a Toby Goodwin penalty, which unfortunately crept under Sam Weller after he made the initial save. Carterton equalised just before the final whistle with an unfortunate Tower Hill own goal.
The game went in to extra time, which again both teams battled hard to get the winning goal. Well into the second period of extra time Joseph Justin made a quick throw to Liam Felstead who managed to get ahead of the defender to score the all important winner.
Overall an excellent game played from both sides. match report from W&DYFL Web site

19.9.09 Carterton U 9's 3 v 1 Charlbury Town Youth

Charlbury broke the deadlock early with a goal from Matthew Townsend but Carterton soon drew level with a good right foot volley from Liam Felstead.
After the break Carterton took the lead with another goal from Liam Felstead and the win was sealed when Joseph Justin scored with his first goal of the season. match report from W&DYFL Web site

message received 18.4.10:

As you are probably aware I am not available to coach Carterton FC Under 10's next season (Under 11's) as my work commitments with the RAF will prevent me from being able to commit. I have informed the Chairman of CFC. This season has been a mixed season starting off really well with the trip to play at Wembley. However, with a small squad we have been unable to get the results we needed this season despite competing very well throughout. The league position does not reflect the ability of the lads. This group of boys have played together since they were 7 years old and it would be a shame to see them have to split up because there is no coach. DO YOU KNOW OF ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO COACH/MANAGE THE TEAM NEXT SEASON? If you do, please could you put them in touch with me so that he/she can meet the boys and start the prep for next season. I only have eight players for next season so, as it will be eleven a side, the new coach will have to generate some extra players to be able to compete in the league. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On behalf of the lads

27.03.10 Garden City 6 v 0 Carterton

13.03.10 Carterton U 10's3 v 5 Deddington Town Colts Cheetahs

Glorious sunshine welcomed both teams this morning, with Deddington, currently sitting second in the league, making the long away trip to Carterton , who were in the precarious position of third from bottom. With 25 points separating the two teams at kick off, the pools panel would surely have this down as an away win !
Deddington kicked off, and enjoyed a good early spell of possession, without really troubling Joe Booth in the Carterton goal. After 5 minutes Carterton broke quickly in midfield, and good work from Drew Monger on the Carterton right released Matthew Bryce who saw his initial shot well saved by the Deddington keeper, but followed up well to put the ball in the net, 1-0 Carterton. Taking a suprise early lead seemed to lift the home side, and it almost soon became 2-0 when Matthew Bryce found himself clean through again but dragged his shot just wide. From their next attack, some great work down the left by Mehmet Sekman, who beat a couple of players and unleashed a fierce drive which was too hot for the Deddington keeper to handle, and Matthew Bryce was on hand to tap in the rebound for his, and Cartertons, second goal. With a potential upset on the cards, Deddington tried to raise their game, and a shot from distance was well saved by Joe Booth tipping it over the bar, and from the resultant corner another shot went just past the post, could Carterton just hold out until halftime and give themselves a chance to regroup. From their next attack, however, Deddington were back in the game, when a deflected shot looped over the Carterton keeper and just under the bar, 2-1.The equaliser followed soon after, when a cross shotfrom the left went in off the far post, 2-2. Carterton almost nudged in front again just before the break, when a long clearance from Martin Rhodes evaded everybody, and Matthew Bryce found himself one on one with the Deddington keeper, who did just enough to put Matthew off and his shot was lifted over the goalie but unfortunately just wide. At the other end, a superb shot from distance rattled the Carterton crossbar but bounced to safety. Then right on half time, another long range effort from the same Deddington player hit the top of the crossbar, although the Carterton keeper did have it covered ! An exhilarating first half was brought to a close with the scores level at 2-2, with plenty of chances at both ends.
Carterton kicked off in the second half, and tried to force the pace, winning an early free kick just on the edge of the Deddington area. However, with what was to become the story of the second half, a Carterton attack was quickly broken up, and Deddington counter attacked with pace, going from one end of the pitch to the other, to take the lead for the first time, 3-2. From the kick off, Carterton lost the ball in midfield, and Deddington broke again, this time 4 against one, but fortunately for Carterton, the ball carrier was forced wide by good defending from Jack Bellenger, and when the cross came in it managed to miss everybody and roll harmlessly out for a goal kick. Joe Booth saved bravely from the next Deddington attack, when another goal looked certain, with both teams going all out, knowing that the next goal would be decisive. After hitting the crossbar twice, with two stunning strikes in the first half, the Deddington midfielder finally got his reward, with another long range effort making it 4-2, although this one was not as fiercely struck, it somehow trickled over the line. This soon became 5-2, when after an initial great save from Jack Welch, who had taken over in goal, a Deddington player was on hand to smash the ball into the back of the net. To Cartertons credit, they didnt let their heads drop, and kept pushing, and their never say die attitude was rewarded, when, for the second time in the game, a shot from Mehmet Sekman was fumbled by the Deddington keeper, leaving Matthew Bryce with the easiest of tap ins for his hat trick, and to make the final score 5-3.
Congratulations to Deddington Cheetahs, who after going two goals down, produced a brilliant second half display of counter attacking at pace, living up to their name !! Also well done to Carterton, who defied the massive points difference, between the two teams, and gave Deddington a real scare, especially in the first half. Good luck to Deddington for their remaining fixtures in their quest for the title, whilst Carterton must look to their last game to try to gain the points needed to secure their safety. A thoroughly entertaining, end to end game, with good football played by both sides, a credit to both managers, well played boys.

06.03.10 Cumnor Minors 2 v 1 Carterton

Carterton travelled on a sunny morning to Cumnor to try and avenge the defeat (3-0) they suffered at home in the early part of the season. With spirits high the Carterton players were still looking for their first win of 2010, having played well for most of the season but not being lucky enough to gain the results which were much needed. Lagging towards the bottom end of the B league, the Carterton players were well aware that Cumnor were in the top three placings in the league. On paper it looked as if Cumnor would dominate the match, and Carterton, without their goalkeeper William Marshall, who suffered from a broken bone earlier in the season, were aware of the huge task in hand.
The game commenced in bright sunshine; a change for this season, could it change the luck of Carterton. Martin Rhodes, the Carterton central defender had found himself 'volunteered' to be the goalkeeper for the day and he did himself proud. He was called upon in the early stages of the game and made some fine and brave saves. As the game continued, the Carterton players gained in confidence and played some good football, in particular Alex Moss and Jack Bellenger. At 0-0, the teams were both playing exciting football and both managers knew either team could get the first goal. Unluckily for Carterton, Cumnor were first to score with a well taken goal. The Carterton lads continued to fight and pressed the Cumnor defence. With half time looming, Mehmet Sekman took on the Cumnor central defender and attacked the goal. The keeper made an excellent save and Mehmet was quick to fight his way to the ball and knock it over the line. 1-1 at half time which was a fair result.
The second half saw a change in playing roles with Mathew Bryce turning to right midfield in order to put Mehmet Sekman up front. With an emphasis on attacking the Carterton players continued to push forward whilst Alex and Jack defended with some vigour, Jack finding himself in need of the 'magic water' three times! Harry Davis worked like a trojan in midfield and Joe Booth had an excellent second half trying to impress his Granddad who was watching him for the first time this season. With 10 minutes to go Cumnor scored a goal to make it 2-1, and this proved to be the decider. That said, the Carterton players battled well together, attacked the ball and never gave up.
Cumnor goal scorers were Cameron Stevens and Flynn Jackson.
The Carterton Manager, Steve Bryce was totally impressed by the dedication from his players and congratulated them for all their efforts, a draw would have been a fair result. The game was well refereed and played in good spirits. Normally, the friendly match which is played after the main game is never mentioned, but in this case it is important to mention the other two Carterton players who did not play in the first game. Drew Monger and Jack Welsh played up front for the first time and impressed, with Jack volunteering to go in goal in the second half, a brave decision. Within 5 minutes he received a knock to the head and was eventually substituted due to him feeling groggy. Without a goalkeeper, all the Carterton players are taking it in turn to play in goal and not one of them has let the manager or the players down-well done. Carterton still await their first win of 2010, perhaps next week, watch out Deddington Town Colts Cheetahs! report from W&DYFL Web site

27.02.10 Carterton 1 v 3 Launton Boys

Despite a lot of overnight rain, it was a bright but cold morning that saw these two teams looking for a result that would move them up the league, away from the relegation zone.
Launton kicked off, and almost immediately won a free kick on the edge of the area, on the left hand side, which was sweetly struck into the top corner, 1-0 to the visitors, and the worst possible start for Carterton. From the restart, Carterton moved the ball out to the left, the cross came in and fell nicely to Martin Rhodes on the edge of the penalty area, but unfortunately his fierce shot went wide. Carterton settled well after the early setback, and were enjoying a good spell of possession, and territory, and almost equalised when a misplaced clearance from the Launton keeper fell at the feet of Joe Booth who dragged his shot agonisingly past the post with the goal at his mercy. At the other end, a long range effort was well saved by Alexander Moss in the Carterton goal, who tipped it over the bar. Carterton broke again, and a high up and under from Mehmet Sekman, bounced awkwardly in the Launton area, and the shot from Joe Booth beat the keeper but again went the wrong side of the post. Another break from Carterton by Harry Davies, who after intercepting the ball, ran on and shot from distance, with Mehmet Sekman getting a touch on it deflecting it just wide. Despite enjoying all the possession, Carterton had to be alert to any breaks from Launton, as they were causing problems with long throw ins any where around the Carterton penalty area. The remainder of the half continued with Carterton continuing to press, with Joe Booth marauding down the left, Harry Davies pulling the strings in the middle of the park, and Jack Bellenger battling hard down the right, but the half time whistle went with the score at 1-0 to Launton.
Carterton kicked off the second half looking to turn their possession into goals, and making one positional change, with Matthew Bryce replacing Alexander Moss in goal, and Alex moving to right midfield. A strong challenge in midfield saw Harry Davies come away with the ball, and release Joe Booth down the left who cut inside and fired in a shot which was saved by the keepers legs, but unfortunately no Carterton player was following in. Next came a high ball into the penalty area from Martin Rhodes, again causing havoc, but this time the Launton keeper was bravely down at the feet of the attackers to snuff out the danger. The second half was following a similar pattern to the first, with Carterton dominant, and another strike from Harry Davies flew just past the post with the keeper beaten, surely a goal was imminent ! From the next attack came the goal, unfortunately it was a second goal for the visitors, who broke from the halfway line and finished well. A cruel blow for Carterton, who, not for the first time this season, had failed to take their chances, and been punished, 2-0 to Launton. Carterton didnt let their heads drop and continued to force the game, looking for the goal their efforts deserved. They won a number of corners, and after a good save from a Harry Davies volley, and a goalmouth scramble with shades of 1966, with a shot that looked to have crossed the line but the referee said no, they finally got a goal. A corner from the left was floated in by Alexander moss and met on the volley at the far post by Mehmet Sekman giving the keeper no chance, 2-1. Would there be enough time for an equaliser ? Joe Booth broke down the left again and his shot was deflected onto the post, it just wasnt going to be their day. A rare break by Launton, saw them win another free kick right on the edge of the area, the ball was crossed in and finished well by the Launton striker, amazingly 3-1 to the visitors. Carterton still carried the fight to Launton, and a long range free kick was well struck by Martin Rhodes, but just pushed past the post by the Launton keeper. From the resultant corner, Cartertons misery was complete, when despite loud appeals for a penalty, a handball from a Launton defender, was missed by the referee, and the ball was cleared. The final whistle went, with the score 3-1. Congratulations to Launton on a smash and grab raid, to take all 3 points, a reversal of the previous fixture at the start of the season, when Launton dominated the game, and Carterton came away with the points. Carterton can feel slightly hard done by, on another day they could have scored a hatful, but today it wasnt to be. A much improved performance though, and they can look forward to the remaining fixtures with increased optimism. Well played boys !

20.02.10 Carterton 1 v 3 Garden City

An overnight frost saw kick off delayed whilst the referee carried out his pitch inspection, and after discussion with both managers the game got underway in bright sunshine.
The half term break saw Carterton depleted to a bare seven players resulting in Mehmet Sekman having to deputise in goal, and first team starts for Drew Monger, and Jack Welch. Garden City kicked off and were straight on the attack with a break down the right and a cross to the far post which Mehmet Sekman just got his fingertips to, which was just enough to put the attacker off and the header went just over the bar. 2 minutes later another break from Garden City saw a snapshot just fired over the bar. Garden City were enjoying a good spell, but a quick break from Carterton, saw them force the first corner of the game, but unfortunately Harry Davies couldn't direct his volley on target. Play quickly switched to the other end, where another shot from the edge of the area looked destined to break the deadlock, but Mehmet Sekman dived acrobatically to his left to tip the ball past the post. The game was flowing now, and Carterton broke quickly down the right and after good work by Matthew Bryce, the ball fell invitingly to Harry Davies whose sweetly struck shot from the right hand edge of the penalty area flew just past the far post.  On their next break, a good chase from Cartertons Matthew Bryce saw him beat the last defender to the ball and after a tussle with the keeper the ball fell kindly for him, but unfortunately the resulting shot went wide. Carterton were to rue these missed opportunities, when from their next attack, Garden City took the lead, when a cross from the left fell kindly to the attacker running into the area and finishing well into the bottom corner. This quickly became 2-0 when almost immediately from the kick off Carterton failed to clear their lines and another chance was buried into the corner, and the half time whistle went with the visitors enjoying a 2-0 scoreline.
Carterton kicked off the second half looking for a way back into the game, with some excellent battling in midfield by Jack Bellenger, and the defence of Martin Rhodes, Jack Welch and Drew Monger resolutely standing up to everything the Garden City attack could throw at them. The game continued with its good tempo, with no quarter being given by either side, with both teams knowing that the next goal would be crucial. After 8 minutes of the second half that goal came, with another emphatic finish from Garden City to make it 3-0. The scoreline seemed harsh on Carterton, and this prompted a change in formation. With no substitutes to call upon, Jack Wech replaced Mehmet Sekman in goal with Mehmet moving to his more favoured position on the left side of the midfield. This almost paid immediate dividends with Mehmet chasing every ball and giving the defenders no time on the ball, resulting in a hurried clearance landing at the feet of Harry Davies on the half way line, who looked up and threaded a delightful ball through for Matthew Bryce to chase. Matthew and the goalkeeper collided in trying to be first to the ball, with both of them missing the ball completely, it rolled goalwards, only to roll agonisingly just past the post. Mehmets combative approach was rubbing off on his teammates as Carterton were winning a lot more tackles and competing all over the park. Jack Welch made a couple of good saves in the Carterton goal, and Drew Monger making some good tackles and blocks, were keeping Carterton in the game. If they could just get a goal ! Their endeavours were rewarded, when they were awarded a free kick on the half way line. Martin Rhodes stepped up to take it, and his well struck shot bounced awkwardly in front of the Garden City keeper in a crowded penalty area and found its way into the back of the net, 3-1. This goal lifted the home side, and they pressed forward looking for another goal that would make the last 5 minutes very nervy. The game however followed the same pattern and there were chances at both ends before the referee finally blew the whistle with a 3-1 victory for the visitors.
A competitive game, played in good spirits, and Carterton will look forward to the return match in a few weeks time, when, hopefully with a full squad, will be able to reverse the scoreline !

13.02.10 Carterton 2 v 2 Charlton & District

It was a bright, but cold freezing Saturday morning, that saw Charlton & District make the trip to Carterton. Carterton made a few personnel changes, and also some positional changes for this fixture, with Carterton now playing 3 players in defence, 2 in midfield and one upfront. Charlton & District kicked off looking for some points after playing little football since the Christmas break, the same as Carterton. The early exchanges were fairly even with both sides looking to take the early advantage. Charlton & District settled down well to their task with some very big and strong players getting stuck in from the start. Carterton held their own and played some very good football with some exceptional passing. Tackling for every ball, Carterton managed to take the lead just before half time with good work between Mathew Bryce and Alex Moss enabling Alex to find the net. 1-0 to Carterton and half time beckoned, Carterton having had enjoyed more of the possession. The half time talk by the Carterton manager consisted of plaudits all around for a very good team effort and then a warning that Charlton & District would try and score early on to even the game and therefore make a fight of it. The Carterton team 'bounced' back onto the pitch, confident and ready for the second half.
Carterton kicked off the second half, with the same starting line up. Within 2 minutes a determined run and superb shot from one of the Charlton & District players ensured that the teams were level; a great solo effort which was forcibly hit along the ground to the right of the Carterton keeper Mehmet Sekman; who was the man of the match playing superbly with 3 excellent saves! (Well done). Carterton continued to battle hard and whilst small in stature did not give up and tackled for every ball. Again, good work by Alex Moss and Mathew Bryce ensured that Mathew Bryce was able to add yet another opportunist goal to his tally, Carterton deservedly 2-1 up. Both teams continued to play good football and in good spirits with both managers able to have a laugh and joke at the same time. Then, out of the blue came a superb shot from a Charlton & District player just inside the Carterton half. The ball flew through the air at speed and passed Mehmet in goal before he even had a chance to see it, 2-2. The score stayed the same for the rest of the match, both teams playing sound football and with the confidence that showed a maturity and level of enjoyment not seen for a while. Carterton should be proud of their performance and if they continue to play in this fashion it won't be long before they have a deserved win. A noteable performance from Kieran Phillips in his last game before moving to RAF Wittering with his family, close to being man of the match along with Mehmet Sekman. A special thanks to JP, Kierans dad for acting as assistant coach/manager throughout the season, he will be greatly missed and we all wish him and his family every success in the future. A team photo and leaving presents for Kieran added to the special occasion and in all fairness 2-2 was a good result for both teams. Well done all, a day that made coaching enjoyable, both sides playing in good spirits and playing good football at the same time.

06.02.10 Hook Norton 5 v 0 Carterton U 10's

Football at last !! After the wintery conditions of December and January, the weather finally relented, although it was a cold and foggy morning that saw both teams glad to get back into the swing of things and kick start their seasons.
Hook Norton kicked off with the advantage of the slope and were quickly into their stride, forcing a good save from William Marshall in the Carterton goal. From the resulting corner, a goal mouth scramble saw a deflected shot give the home side an early lead. From the re-start Carterton broke down the right with good work by Joe Booth, who released Matthew Bryce but the shot was just wide. Hook Norton were quickly on the attack again, and from another corner, Carterton failed to clear and a good shot from the edge of the area made it 2-0 to Hook Norton. The home side were definately on top, and only the post saved Carterton on their next attack after a good shot fired in from the left. The relief for Carterton, however, was only temporary, as the home side made it 3-0 just before the break, and still had time to hit the woodwork again before the half time whistle went. The home side had dominated the first half and were good value for the 3-0 scoreline.
Carterton kicked off in the second half, having made one change, with Mehmet Sekman taking over in goal from William Marshall, and Jack Bellenger coming in on the left hand side of the midfield. The opening exchanges of the second half were much more even, with Carterton a bit quicker in the tackle and looking to be more positive in possession. A good break started in midfield by Harry Davies, who passed on to Matthew Bryce who beat the defender before crossing into the penalty area finding Joe Booth, who with his back to goal cleverly laid the ball back to Harry Davies who curled his shot just wide of the post. The next attack saw a good save from the Hook Norton goalkeeper resulting in a corner for Carterton. It was from this Carterton corner, however, that Hook Norton scored the goal of the game, as the Hook Norton defence cleared the corner quickly and found themselves with a break two on one with the Carterton defender, and after unselfishly passing between themselves, the Hook Norton attacker had the easy task of shoot the keeper who could do nothing to stop the goal. A great goal from one end of the pitch to the other. The home side were looking dangerous every time they attacked, and after hitting the woodwork for the 3rd time, soon made it 5-0 to round off a comprehensive victory. A good victory for the home side, and a harsh lesson for Carterton, who battled much better in the second half, and must now look to their next game to get back to winning ways.

5.12.09 Brackley Town 1 v 1 Carterton U 10's

It was a bright, but cold Saturday morning, that saw Carterton make the trip to Brackley. Carterton made a few personnel changes, and also some positional changes for this fixture, and Brackley kicked off looking for some points to try and lift themselves off the bottom of the league. The early exchanges were fairly even with both sides looking to take the early advantage. The first goalmouth action saw a shot from distance from Carterton captain, Harry Davies deflected wide for a corner, and from the corner the Brackley keeper saved well from Mehmet Sekman. At the other end, a good crosss across the face of goal was met by the Brackley attacker sliding in at the far post but could only put it just over the bar. The next Carterton attack saw a high ball played into the Brackley penalty area where Mehmet Sekman jumped with the Brackley keeper, and although the ball was headed into the net by Mehmet, the referee deemed that the goalkeeper had both hands on the ball, and the goal was disallowed. Carterton were now enjoying a good spell and when Keiran Phillips found himself through one on one with the keeper, his shot could only find the outside of the post, after good work from Matthew Bryce. The halftime whistle went with the scores level at 0-0, and although Carterton had enjoyed more possession, it was still pretty scrappy, with Carterton perhaps struggling to adapt to the changes made to the usual line up.
Carterton kicked off the second half, with Mehmet Sekman replacing William Marshall in goal, Alexander Moss taking over at right midfield from Jack Bellenger, and Wilson Goncalves coming on to play up front with Matthew Bryce moving to the left. Within a minute, Carterton took the lead, after good work down the left by Matthew Bryce, the ball found its way to Alexander Moss in the area, who calmly finished into the bottom corner, 1-0 to Carterton. Brackley responded well to going behind, and the best move of the match, with quick one touch football, cut open the Carterton defence, but when the ball found its way to the Brackley attacker with only the keeper to beat, the shot went narrowly over the bar. Carterton then reverted to their more conventional formation with Keiran Phillips moving back into defence, and Harry Davies moving back into central midfield. Carterton were looking to press home their slim advantage, and Wilson Goncalves put Alexander Moss through but his shot was too high. This was quickly followed by Wilson shooting straight at the keeper after being put through by Harry Davies. Brackley were not giving up though, and a quick break was followed by a viscious shot which rattled the cross bar. The next attack saw Mehmet Sekman saving with his legs, from the Brackley shot with the pressure on the Carterton goal increasing. The next Brackley break resulted in a cross from the left bouncing awkwardly in the Carterton area and striking the Carterton defender on the arm right on the edge of the area. Despite appeals for a penalty the referee awarded the free kick right on the edge of the area, but Brackleys efforts were rewarded when the free kick was fired into the bottom corner, 1-1. With 4 minutes remaining, Carterton made their final change, giving a league debut to Joe Booth, replacing Matthew Bryce. Both teams tried to force one more chance, which would probably decide the game, but the whistle eventually went, with the final score, Brackley Town 1 Carterton 1.
Probably a fair result on the day, with both teams enjoying good spells during the game, Carterton looking comfortable early on, and taking the lead, will be disappointed not to have won, but Brackley, can be very pleased with the way they responded to going behind, and always looked dangerous on the break. Well done to both teams !

28.11.09 Carterton U 10's 1 v 4 Banbury Town Youth

After a tight game earlier in the season, played in glorious sunshine, todays return fixture promised to be another competitive game, although the weather was decidedly more wintery with a biting wind blowing right down the pitch.
Banbury kicked off, playing against the elements, but they definately settled quicker than Carterton, and enjoyed the early possession. After 5 minutes, however, Carterton took the lead, with a goal that certainly took advantage of the windy conditions. A long goal kick from Carterton goalkeeper William Marshall travelled the length of the pitch before bouncing awkwardly in front of the Banbury keeper, who did well to tip the ball onto the crossbar, but the rebound was followed up by Matthew Bryce to tap in to make the score 1-0 to Carterton. Banbury continued to enjoy good spells of possession, and a good move down the right hand side produced a good cross which found the Banbury player unmarked at the back post, but William Marshall was quickly down at the strikers feet to snuff out the danger. Banbury were in the ascendancy now and you could sense an equaliser was on the cards, and after 12 minutes it came, when another cross from the right was tucked away by the Banbury attacker at the far post, 1-1.
Despite having the advantage of the wind, Carterton were struggling to maintain a foothold in the game and two more goals in the space of 3 minutes, put the game out of reach, two smart finishes making it 3-1 to the away team. Carterton tried to stem the tide and a good shot from Alexander Moss was bravely blocked by a Banbury head, and Mehmet Sekmans follow up volley was easily saved by the Banbury keeper. Then a smart break in midfield by Carterton captain Harry Davies, saw him release Mehmet Sekman down the left wing who put a good cross into the Banbury penalty area, but unfortunately it evaded everyone, and the half time whistle went, 3-1 to Banbury.
Carterton kicked off at the start of the second half, against the wind, and against a very good Banbury team who had their tails up,and were playing some good football. The second half continued with Banbury quickly into their stride and only a fine save from William Marshall, tipping a fierce shot past the post, kept the scores the same, with the resulting corner being headed wide. Another corner soon followed, and this was unfortunately deflected into his own net by the Carterton defender on the near post, this own goal making the score 4-1 to Banbury. The rest of the second half followed a similar pattern, with Banbury enjoying good spells of possession, and Carterton playing mainly on the break. With only 2 minutes left on the clock, another break from a Banbury player, saw him one on one with William Marshall in the Carterton goal, and both players clashed whilst going for the ball. It was immediately clear that William had come off worse, as he put his hand up straight away for help. After asssessing the injury both coaches and the referee agreed that further treatment would be necessary, and an ambulance was called. Both teams tried to keep warm whilst waiting for the ambulance to arrive as it was felt best not to try moving William from the goalmouth until the full extent of the injury could be determined.
After Williams departure, to hospital for an x-ray, the final few minutes were played out with no addition to the score, and the whistle went to end the game, 4-1 to Banbury. Congratulations to Banbury, who ran out deserving winners, playing some good football in very difficult conditions. All our thoughts are with William, and we hope the injury isn't as serious as it looked, and he makes a speedy recovery.

21.11.09 Under-10 Knock-Out Cup - 2nd Round - Carterton U 10's 0 v 2 Kingston Colts

Carterton played their first game at home for some considerable time against opposition from the top of league C. For the first time this season the sun was not shinning but the rain held off despite the wind threatening to increase and make it more difficult to play. This game was always going to be close and from the start both teams had equal share of possession and chances were created at both ends. Determined to start a good cup run, both sets of players were ‘fired up’ for the game and the action was provided at both ends with both goalkeepers playing well and with confidence. Neither team dominated in the first half, both showed composure on the ball and Harry Davies for Carterton dominated the midfield along with Jack Garbutt playing in the same position for the opposition. The first half ended 0-0, a fair reflection of the play.
After a good team talk and a guest appearance from Jamie Wright for Carterton, adding added value to the team talk, Carterton took to the second half with a determination to succeed. They piled on the pressure and created many chances, both Jack Bellenger and Mathew Bryce coming close. Against the run of play Luke May who had played well in the first half scored the first goal of the game for the away team with a well struck effort from close range. Carterton appeared deflated and soaked up the pressure placed on them by Kingston; it’s amazing what a goal can do; Carterton fought their way back into the game with Mehmet Sekman working tirelessly in midfield trying to provide support to Matty Bryce up front, they are developing a good partnership together. On one such attack Mehmet passed to Mathew and Mat fired at goal with the ball crossing the line after a cruel deflection; the goal claimed by Matty and another opportunist effort. With the score now at 1-1 and extra time looming both teams continued to push forward and Carterton defended well with Kieran Phillips and Martin Rhodes having strong games in defence. Likewise Sam Froud and Charlie Chandler played well for the opposition. With neither team finding the net the game now moved into two halves of five minutes of extra time! Chances came and went and to their credit neither team gave in, and the extra time was played with good spirit, even the Managers from Carterton and Kingston managed to have a nervous laugh together on the sideline. All too soon the final whistle blew and it was time for penalties, an unusual circumstance for such young lads to find themselves in. The Carterton Manager asked for volunteers and 4 individuals stepped up to the plate. As only 3 were required initially, the manger drew grass straws; the shortest taking the fourth slot if required. CFC now had their 3 brave penalty takers and an even braver goalkeeper, William Marshall. After 2 penalties each, CFC were 1-0 down with Mehmet Sekman having his excellent penalty saved in magnificent fashion by the Kingston goalkeeper and Martin Rhodes having his penalty saved also. It all hinged on Kingston’s final penalty which was neatly tucked away by the Kingston player for a cup win. Poor Mathew Bryce and Kieran Phillips were not needed to step up to the mark having volunteered, well done for making the brave decision. Special mention to William Marshall who played well in goal and did his very best in the penalties, having made an excellent save to stem the first of Kingston’s efforts. Both goalkeepers must have felt that the goals were enormous and they coped with the pressure well.
Both sets of parents and players should be proud of an excellent performance from both teams in a highly entertaining, well refereed game. The team camaraderie was evident throughout, Carterton should not be disappointed with their efforts, both the manager and parents were proud of their performance, they tried their very best throughout. The same can be said for the opposition and hopefully we can meet up next year in league B, in order that another game can be played in the same competitive and enjoyable spirit. Well done boys! Final Result Carterton 0 – Kingston Colts 2 on penalties; (1- 1 after normal and extra time).match report by S Bryce

14.11.09 Carterton U 10's v Garden City match postponed

7.11.09 Deddington Town Colts Lions 0 v 0 Carterton U 10's

Carterton made their second trip to Deddington in a week, looking to bring to an end a run of 3 consecutive defeats.
Carterton kicked off and after 2 minutes created the first chance of the game, when a good run down the right wing by Alexander Moss resulted with a dangerous cross into the penalty area which just evaded Mehmet Sekman coming in at the far post. This, however, seemed to spur the home team into life and they reacted with a snapshot from just outside the box, flashing just wide of the post. This was quickly followed by a break down the right and a shot fired in from the Deddington player into the side netting. Deddington certainly had their tails up now, and a speculative lob from outside the area was brilliantly tipped onto the crossbar by the Carterton goalkeeper, and captain for the day, William Marshall. The resulting corner was a teasing inswinger which missed everybody and hit the post, Carterton were really under the cosh now and another corner was fired across a crowded goalmouth, again somehow avoiding a touch from either attackers or defenders. After soaking up the Deddington pressure, Carterton started to come into the game towards the end of the half, and a smart pass from Mehmet Sekman almost released Matthew Bryce in the penalty area, but the Deddington keeper was down quickly to save. The half finished with another good move from Carterton, and a cross shot from Mehmet, again well saved by the Deddington keeper, half time 0-0.
Deddington kicked off the second half looking to impose themselves early again, and created the first opportunity, but William Marshall was equal to the shot, and produced a good save. Carterton then started to be a bit quicker into the tackle, and show a bit more composure on the ball, and soon started to take control, Steves half time team talk seemed to have had the desired effect ! A corner from the right by Mehmet Sekman was swung in where Harry Davies met it on the volley, only just wide. Another break saw, a good ball from Harry Davies to Alexander Moss, who cut inside his marker and unleashed a fierce rising shot which the Deddington keeper did well to push over the bar for a corner. The corner was taken and cleared, but only to the edge of the box, where Harry Davies connected perfectly on the volley, only to see his effort cannon back off the underside of the crossbar, and the goalkeeper saving the rebound from Mehmet. Another sweeping move from Carterton from one side of the pitch to the other, ended with Harry Davies beating 2 players but shooting straight at the keeper. However, another good save from William Marshall in the Carterton goal, just reminded the Carterton boys, that they had to be on their guard, as it was looking like one goal either way, would be enough to decide this game. At the other end, a long free kick from Martin Rhodes landed at the feet of Alexander Moss, whose shot beat the keeper, but was cleared off the line by the Deddington defender for another corner to Carterton. Deddington then broke quickly and a long range effort was again well saved down low by William Marshall. Both teams were searching for the elusive goal which would surely win the game for one side, and be heartbreak for the other, with the parents nervously looking on. Carterton pressed in the last few minutes, camped in the Deddington half, but it wasn't to be and the referee blew the final whistle with the game deadlocked at 0-0.
This was the proverbial game of two halves, with Deddington enjoying the "lions" share of possession and chances in the first half, and Carterton certainly having the upper hand in the second. Both sides rattling the woodwork, and both goalkeepers making excellent saves, a draw was the only fair outcome. Carterton bringing an end to their run of defeats, can be proud of their efforts, especially after withstanding the initial onslaught from the home side, with Martin Rhodes and Kieran Phillips outstanding in defence, Harry Davies, Mehmet Sekman, and Alexander Moss, battling really well in midfield, Matthew Bryce chasing everything upfront, and William Marshall equal to everything in goal.
Both sets of parents and players should be proud of an excellent performance from both teams in a highly entertaining, well refereed game. Well done boys !

31.10.09 Deddinton Town Colts Cheetahs 4 v 1 Carterton U 10's

After 2 successive defeats, Carterton were looking to get back to winning ways with the away trip to Deddington Cheetahs.
Carterton kicked off in the sunshine, and were quickly into their stride, enjoying the early possession and territory, without really creating a clear opportunity. A quick Deddington break saw William Marshall called into action in the Carterton goal, diving bravely at the feet of the Deddington striker to prevent a goal. Play quickly moved to the other end, where a ricochet off a Deddington defender saw a shot from Mehmet Sekman saved well by the Deddington goalkeeper. It was now going end to end, with a snapshot from a Deddington player going just wide of the post. Then, after 11 minutes, the first goal came, when a cross from the right hand side, from Deddington went through a crowded penalty area and somehow found its way into the net, 1-0 to Deddington. Two minutes later, only a good save from William Marshall prevented Deddington extending their lead, as the game continued to flow with chances for both teams. A sweetly struck left foot half volley from Carterton midfielder Harry Davies was well saved in the Deddington goal, but from the next attack, Carterton finally got the equaliser. A good move from right to left finished with a fine shot from Mehmet Sekman coming down off the underside of the crossbar and although it looked as though the ball had crossed the line, Matthew Bryce following in, like any good striker, made sure the ball hit the back of the net, the goal eventually being credited to Mehmet. The first half finished with the scores level at 1-1, which was probabaly a fair reflection of the opening 20 minutes.
Deddington kicked off in the second half, and straight from the kick off, went ahead with their first attack, a good move finished off well by the Deddington player. Carterton, tried to come back for the second time in the game, and after good work in midfield from Alexander Moss, a smart turn and shot from Harry Davies was again well saved by the Deddington goalkeeper down low at the near post. Another chance for Carterton soon followed, from a long goal kick by Martin Rhodes which evaded the whole midfield, and left Matthew Bryce through one on one with the Deddington goalkeeper who again saved bravely at the strikers feet. From the next Deddington attack came the decisive goal, with a good run and finish in off the post from a Deddington midfielder making it 3-1 to the home team. Within 2 minutes the game was put out of Cartertons reach, when a long range effort bounced awkwardly in front of the Carterton goalkeeper to make it 4-1 to Deddington. Carterton continued to press and created a number of half chances, but couldnt force a goal. The best of these chances coming with the last move of the match, when, after some good approach play, Mehmet Sekman found himself through in the penalty area, but put his shot wide when it looked easier to score. Final score, Deddington Town Colts Cheetahs 4 Carterton 1.
Deddington were rewarded for a much better second half performance, where they were much more clinical in front of goal than Carterton, who never gave up, but certainly looked tired in the latter stages of the second half. A good, well refereed game, between two competitive teams, and Carterton will look forward to the return fixture later in the season to try and gain some revenge.

17.10.09 Carterton U 10's 0 v 3 Cumnor Minors

The sun was shining again as Carterton played host to Cumnor Minors in the U10 B League. Due to illness and injury Carterton were missing 3 regular first team players, this however gave opportunities for Jack Bellenger, in a 3 man defence, Wilson Goncalves up front, and a first team debut for William Marshall in goal.
Cumnor kicked off, and from their first attack showed their intent, with a shot just wide of the post. Cumnor were enjoying a good spell of possession, when a cross from the right struck the Carterton defender on the arm, and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot for a penalty to Cumnor. Up stepped the Cumnor player, but his well struck shot was brilliantly saved by William Marshall in the Carterton goal, what a start to his debut ! Cumnors pressure continued with a succession of long throws and corners causing chaos in the Carterton defence, but some last ditch tackles and blocks, and some inspired goalkeeping from William Marshall who kept making save after save, kept the score at 0-0. Carterton were struggling to get a foothold in the game, and were restricted to long range efforts from Harry Davies and Martin Rhodes, both saved by the Cumnor keeper, and the half time whistle went with the score at 0-0.
Carterton opted for a more offensive formation for the second half, to and gain a bit more possession and create a few more chances, but again it was William Marshall in the Carterton goal who was called into action first with another flying save to deny Cumnor. Despite enjoying a bit more possession, the Cumnor pressure finally told, when after 8 minutes of the second half the opening goal came. Another long throw from Cumnor was flicked on at the near post and headed in past the keeper, 1-0 to Cumnor. Two minutes later, a harsh decision to award Cumnor a free kick for handball, resulted in Cumnor scoring a second goal, when the well struck free kick went in off the underside of the crossbar. Carterton kept going and from a drop ball, as a result of an injury to Jack Bellenger, a fierce shot from Harry Davies was saved by the Cumnor keeper after the defender had taken the sting off the shot. After 15 minutes of the second half, Carterton made a change, with Jack Welch replacing Wilson Goncalves. A quick break from Carterton found Jack Bellenger through on goal, but his shot was well saved by the Cumnor keeper. Cartertons misfortune continued when their appeals for a penalty for a handball in the area by a Cumnor defender were ignored, which was made worse when Cumnor broke upfield and soon scored again, when another throw in found its way through to a Cumnor player, who was unmarked for an easy finish, 3-0 to Cumnor. There was still time for one piece of drama, when in the closing minutes, Cumnor were awarded their second penalty of the game, following a trip, but the chance was squandered when the penalty was put wide of the post.
A much better second half performance from the Carterton boys, but the fact that the Carterton goalkeeper was their man of the match tells its own story, and Cumnor ran out deserved winners. Final score Carterton 0 Cumnor Minors 3.

10.10.09 Charlton & District 4 v 0 Carterton U 10's

A sunny October morning saw Carterton make the difficult away trip to the unbeaten league leaders Charlton & District, who had taken maximum points from their first four games.
Charlton kicked off, but it was Carterton who seemed to settle quicker and enjoyed the majority of possession in the opening 5 minutes, without really threatening the Charlton goal. After 7 minutes, a long goal kick from the Charlton keeper was well controlled by their striker, who turned quickly, and despite his first effort being blocked, reacted quickly to the rebound and fired in from a tight angle in off the far post, 1-0 to Charlton. This goal seemed to lift the home side, who quickly forced a number of corners, and from one of these came the second goal. The ball went right through a crowded penalty area, and was struck in at the back post despite the best efforts of the defender on the line. It soon became 3-0, when another corner was headed into his own net by the Carterton defender on the near post. Despite the scoreline, Carterton finished the half strongly, creating a number of chances, for Tom Dove and Mehmet Sekman, but on each occasion, failed to hit the target. The first half came to an end with one final chance for Carterton to get on the scoresheet, when they were awarded a free kick just outside the area, but a well struck shot from Tom Dove went narrowly wide. Half time 3-0 to Charlton.
Carterton kicked off the second half with the advantage of the slope, having made one change, with Harry Davies replacing Matthew Bryce in goal, with Matthew moving up front. Again Carterton started brightly, and forced a couple of early corners, one of which saw a shot from Keiran Phillips go just past the post. Then a quick break from Charlton saw a fierce shot well saved by Harry Davies. Another break from Charlton saw them score their fourth goal, when a vicious shot from the left was smashed against the crossbar, only for the rebound to be tucked away by the Charlton player following in. Another goal keeping change from Carterton saw Alex Moss take over from Harry Davies who moved back into midfield, and Alex was soon called into action having to react quickly to a long range effort. Carterton kept battling away, and after 14 mins of the second half, created their best chance of the game when after good work down the left, Matthew Bryce crossed and found Mehmet Sekman unmarked in the penalty area, but again the chance was put wide. With 5 minutes remaining, Wilson Goncalves replaced Mehmet Sekman in midfield for Carterton, and Wilson was soon involved, when his cross found Mattew Bryce who laid the ball off for Harry Davies to shoot, but his effort was saved by the Charlton keeper. Despite their efforts, in a much better second half, Carterton could not break down a solid Charlton defence and the game finished Charlton & District 4 Carterton 0.
In football you have to take your chances when they come, and despite creating numerous opportunities today, Carterton only forced the Charlton goalkeeper into one real save. Congratulations to Charlton, who in the end, ran out convincing winners and justified their position at the top of the league.

26.9.09 Launton Boys 0 v 1 Carterton U 10's

With only one point separating these two teams before kick off, this always promised to be a tight game, and so it turned out to be.
Launton kicked off and were quickly into their stride, forcing Carterton onto the back foot immediately, dominating the early possession and chances. Carterton just couldnt seem to keep hold of the ball, and every time they cleared their lines, the ball just seemed to come straight back. After 10 minutes the best chance of the half fell to Launton, when a neat turn in the penalty area resulted in a snap shot fired just over the cross bar. Despite all of Launtons possession, they couldn't find the breakthrough and the halftime whistle went with the score 0-0.
JP's halftime team talk obviously inspired the Carterton boys, who started the 2nd half much brighter, quicker into the tackle and not giving their opponents as much time on the ball. Launton, however were still enjoying the best of the chances, and only a smart save at the near post by Mehmet Sekman in the Carterton goal kept the score goal less. Then after 14 miutes of the 2nd half came the decisive moment of the game. After winning the ball in midfield, Tom Dove broke down the left, holding off the challenge of a couple of Launton defenders, before firing in a low cross across the face of the goal which the keeper failed to hold leaving Matthew Bryce to tap into an empty net, 1-0 to Carterton.
Chances came and went at either end in a frantic finish to the game, but despite their best efforts, Launton couldn't find a way through as Carterton defended as a team, and the final whistle went with the score Launton Boys 0 Carterton 1. Launton will be wondering how they have lost this game, while Carterton, although not at their best, were rewarded for their efforts, especially in the 2nd half, when they worked just as hard without the ball, as when they had it, and took the one chance when it came their way.
An excellent game, played competitively but fairly by both sides, and well refereed.

19.9.09 Carterton U 10's 8 v 0 Brackley Town

The sun was shining again, as Carterton played hosts to Brackley Town. An injury during the warm up to Keiran Phillips, meant Carterton were forced into some early changes with Tom Dove moving to defence, and Wilson Goncalves being promoted from the bench to play up front.
The early exchanges were fairly even with both sides forcing early corners. However, Carterton soon started to take control of the game and took the lead after 6 minutes when a corner from Tom Dove was clipped in at the near post by Wilson Goncalves. Carterton won a number of quick corners with Harry Davies heading over on a couple of occasions, but a second goal seemed to be on the cards, and after 11 minutes it came. A quick throw in from the left by Mehmet Sekman evaded a few Brackley defenders and a neat turn and shot by Harry Davies made it 2-0 to Carterton.
The confidence was growing in the Carterton boys, with Martin Rhodes and Tom Dove looking solid in defence, and the midfield of Alexander Moss, Mehmet Sekman, and Harry Davies controlling the game in midfield. After a neat passage of passing right from the back, a perfectly weighted ball from Harry Davies released Wilson to calmly finish in the bottom corner to make it 3-0. The first half finished with a fourth goal right on the half time whistle, another good finish from Wilson Goncalves to complete his hat trick. Half time 4-0 to Carterton.
The second half saw another change for Carterton, with Harry Davies taking over in goal from Matthew Bryce. Within a minute Carterton had scored again with a neat finish from Mehmet Sekman to make it 5-0. Carterton were really enjoying the majority of the possession now and another corner from Tom Dove was turned in from close range by Matthew Bryce to make it 6-0. Despite not getting much of the ball, Brackley continued to battle hard and contest every challenge and should be commended for their efforts in very hot conditions. Carterton however were relentless, and soon made it 7-0 with a well sruck free kick into the top corner by Mehmet Sekman. Then came the goal of the game, when a big goal kick from Harry Davies bounced in the Brackley half, and sat up nicely for Wilson Goncalves to hit on the volley from outside the area, which smashed against the crossbar, only for Mehmet Sekman to follow up and head the rebound into an empty net to complete his hat trick. Carterton then made a couple of late changes, taking off both the hat trick heroes Wilson, an Mehmet, and bringing on Jack Bellenger and Jack Welsh. Chances came and went in the last few minutes, but the ref finally blew his whistle with the final score of Carterton 8 Brackley Town 0.
This was the perfect response from Carterton following last weeks last minute defeat, and the Brackley boys should take encouragement from their commitment against a very strong performance from the home team.

12.9.09 Banbury Town Youth 2 v 1 Carterton U 10's

Another glorious sunny morning saw an early season top of the table clash between Banbury Town Youth and Carterton, after both sides recorded 4-0 victories on the opening weekend.
Banbury kicked off, and were straight on the attack, forcing a corner within the first minute. The half continued with Carterton restricting Banbury to mostly long range efforts, and Carterton playing mainly on the break. After 15 minutes, Carterton forced a corner on the left. This corner was swung in viciously by Tom Dove, and in trying to clear the ball, it was headed into the back of the net by the unfortunate Banbury defender for an own goal, 1-0 Carterton. The rest of the 1st half saw chances at either end, but Keiran Phillips and Martin Rhodes were magnificent in the Carterton defence, throwing their bodies in front of everything, and the half time whistle went with the score remaining 1-0 to Carterton.
The teams took a well earned half time breather, and both sides knew they were in a battle. Banbury were quick out of the blocks again at the start of the 2nd half, and saw a shot clip the outside of the post from an early attack. The game remained really tight, with a real battle going on in midfield, where the Carterton trio of Harry Davies, Tom Dove, & Alexander Moss were superb, and Matthew Bryce working really hard up front. After 5 minutes of the 2nd half, Carterton made a goal keeping change, with Alexander Moss swapping his midfield role with Mehmat Sekman, and Alexander was soon called upon with a number of corners to defend. It was from one of these corners, that the equaliser came, with a fine header placed into the roof of the net, to make the score 1-1. Banbury pushed for the winner, and only a superb tip over the bar from Alexander kept the scores level. With 5 minutes remaining, Carterton were forced into another substitution, having to replace the injured Keiran Phillips, giving a league debut to Jack Bellenger. The game looked to be heading for a deserved draw, when, with only a minute left on the clock, Banbury forced another corner. For the first time in the game Carterton switched off and Banbury took a quick short corner, and by the time the Carterton defence had reacted, a shot was fired through a crowded penalty area and crept in at the near post to make it 2-1 to Banbury. With only injury time to play, Carterton couldnt fashion a chance for the equaliser and the game finished with a 2-1 victory for the home side.
A bitter pill for the Carterton boys to swallow, but hopefully a harsh lesson learned, and they will come back stronger for it, and Banbury will know they will be in for another hard game in the return fixture later in the season.
An excellent game, played in very hot conditions, and well refereed.

5.9.09 Carterton U 10's 4 v 0 Hook Norton

The first game of the new season saw Carterton kick off in glorious sunshine, and a lively start saw early chances for both sides. After five minutes, a corner from Hook Norton was cleared and Kieran Phillips broke quickly from defence and with a great through ball, released Matthew Bryce who finished well into the bottom corner - 1-0 to Carterton. The first half continued end to end, with Hook Norton finishing the half strongly with a succession of corners, which eventually saw their best chance come back off the crossbar. Half time 1-0 to Carterton.
Carterton started the second half brightly, and after earlier hitting the bar with a neat flick, Harry Davies finally made it 2-0 with a far post header from a long throw by Kieran Phillips. This second goal seemed to lift Carterton and a third goal quickly followed from a cross shot by Tom Dove which found its way into the bottom corner. This soon became 4-0 when a corner from Tom Dove was deflected into his own net by a Hook Norton defender. Despite numerous chances, Hook Norton couldn't get the goal their efforts deserved, and the Carterton defence held firm, to see the game finish with a 4-0 victory to Carterton.
A great advert for boys football, played competitively, with great spirit, and we look forward to the return fixture later in the season.

U10, 2009/10 season on Thursday, 6th August 2009  travelled to Wembley to attend the The FA / McDonald’s National Football Festival 2009.  They first went to  Northwick Park,  (10am – 2pm) to three games of 7 a side lasting 15 minutes one way.
As well as the three games at Northwick Park, there was coaching areas for the players to learn new skills, including sessions lead by the McDonald’s National Coach, Eric Harrison, the ex-Manchester United Youth Team Coach, who coached David Beckham, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes to stardom. There was also the opportunity for children and spectators alike to put their skills to the test on some of the McDonald’s inflatable football challenges.
At the end of the festival at Northwick Park, every team made their way to Wembley Stadium, the home of football.
At 3.15pm a group photo was taken, and then every team had the opportunity to play 1 x 10 minute game, take a team photo, before walking up to the Royal Box to receive a commemorative medal from the guests of honour.

CARTERTON PLAY AT WEMBLEY report
Carterton FC under 10’s and 5 guests from the under 9’s represented Carterton FC at the FA / McDonald’s National Football Festival 2009 held at Northwick Park and Wembley Stadium. With approximately 2 weeks’ notice to play, it was all hands to the pump as the lads prepared for their big day. On hearing the news that he was to play at Wembley, one of the lads said, ‘I can’t stop my hand trembling, it’s just awesome!’ The 14 players and their parents (37 in total) travelled firstly to Northwick Park to play in 3 x 15 minute warm up games. The lads got off to a great start with a match against SHELF Juniors which resulted in a 3-1 win to Carterton. Harry Davies scored 2 goals, one of which would have graced the ‘goal of the month’ competition on a famous weekly football show hosted by Mr Lineker! Mathew Bryce scored the other goal, which was true reward for his efforts up front. The midfield and defence were all outstanding and all left the field with a true sense of achievement. The second game was played against Longhaughton Rangers and Carterton fielded their 5 under 9 guests to ‘Warm’ them up for the Wembley experience. The initial apprehension felt by the lads resulted in Carterton trailing by 2 goals to 0 after only 5 or 6 minutes! However, once into their stride Carterton fought back to equalise at 2-2 with great goals from Liam Felstead and Wilson Gonclaves who worked tirelessly all day. In the final minutes Cartertons opponents scored their well deserved winner but the efforts of the Carterton Team, bearing in mind 5 of the 7 players were a year younger, was exemplary, and their coach, Steve Felstead who helped out on the day was truly proud of his lads achievements. The final match of the 3 was played against Larkspur Rovers, probably one of the strongest teams in the competition. In a hard fought battle over 15 minutes both teams played to the best of their ability and both coaches could not fault their lads for effort and determination. In fact the final result of 0-0 was a fair and rewarding end to the initial part of this glorious day.
Having had lunch basking in the sunshine it was time to move on to Wembley the home of English Football. With 56 teams taking part it meant that the 14 Carterton Lads were part of only 784 under 10’s in the whole country to tread on the ‘hallowed turf-what an honour’. Carterton had to wait right until the last minute to play their 10 minute game against St Albans AFC from Cardiff. With 2 teams, the Carterton Coach elected to play 1 team in each half for 5 minutes to allow all the players the chance to experience the Wembley turf! At half time Caterton was leading 1-0 with a well taken goal from Mathew Bryce (The 1st Bryce ever to score at Wembley!). In a close fought 2nd half St Albans scored 2 goals to run out 2-1 winners. The coaches on both sides admitted that the experience of playing at Wembley was by far the more memorable event and not the score line- try telling that to the lads! With a final walk up to the Royal Box to receive their commemorative medals the day was rounded off in superb fashion. Well, that includes the Carterton Football shirts signed by Sir Trevor Brooking and a team photo taken with Geoff Hurst!! It goes without saying that all of the Carterton FC players will remember this experience for the rest of their lives (As will the mums and dads) and special thanks have to go to John Phillips (Under 10’s assistant coach) and Steve Felstead (under 9’s coach) who helped out throughout the day to make the experience so enjoyable. Final thanks to Angies Taxis, Minster Lovell who provided the coach, Dave the driver for putting up with 37 children (yes that includes the parents!) and Owain Prosser Oxfordshire FA for all his support. Finally, the team Manager Steve Bryce admitted that all the hard work paid off in a minute when he saw the lad’s expressions on their faces, as they saw Wembley for the 1st time. Well done all. The players were: (U10’s) Mathew Bryce,Tom Dove, Mehmet Sekman, Harry Davies, Kieran Phillips, Martin Rhodes, William Marshall, Wilson Goncalves, Jack Welsh, (U9’s) Liam Felstead, Chris Bryce, Daniel Bryce, Joseph Justin and Jack Romanek.

Oxfordshire Boys and Girls Play at Wembley!! 12:29 PM, Friday, 14 August 09. Development copied from OFA Web site
On Thursday 6th August players from Marston Saints FC, Carterton FC, Oxford City FC and Kidlington Youth Girls FC headed to the home of English Football to play on the hallowed turf of Wembley Stadium. Clubs took up the opportunity to take part in The FA/McDonald’s Football Festival 2009 and the Under 10 players were able to do something that even many professional players can only dream about – playing on the Wembley pitch. With 56 teams taking part it meant that the Oxfordshire based players were part of only 784 under 10’s in the whole country with this opportunity.
Owain Prosser, Football Development Officer for Oxfordshire FA said, “This was potentially a once in a lifetime opportunity for these boys and girls and just rewards for the high standards that the clubs have set in the county. All of these clubs have achieved FA Charter Standard status, a result of a great deal of hard work by Club officials and members to demonstrate that the Club met the exacting standards of management, training, vetting and organisation required by the Football Association.“
Each team played three games at the nearby Northwick Park where there was coaching areas for the players to improve their skills under the watchful eye of McDonalds National Coach, Eric Harrison, the ex-Manchester United Youth Team Coach, who coached David Beckham, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes. They were then transported to the Stadium where they were photographed with Sir Geoff Hurst and the Community Shield, played a game on the Wembley pitch before climbing up to the Royal box, in the steps of their heroes, to collect their medals.
Steve Bryce, of Carterton Under 10s, said “What a great day, the players really enjoyed themselves and it was a special day for all. As a volunteer coach I found it to be a hugely rewarding experience, the expressions on the kids faces made it all worthwhile. It goes without saying that all of the Carterton FC players will remember this experience for the rest of their lives, as will the mums and dads!”
Kidlington Girls Under 10s manager, Graham Nutt, agreed “The word “fantastic” does not do the day justice! All at Kidlington Youth FC had an unbelievable time both at Northwick and at Wembley. It is something that will stay with our girls for ever.”

26.9.09 Friendly Carterton Colts U 10's v Blunsdon

19.9.09 Bloxham 1 v 0 Carterton U 10 Colts

This was a thoroughly enjoyable and closely contested game, full of excitement for players and spectators of both teams. First half possession was even and chances on goal were sparse, most coming from long-range efforts and dealt with by solid defenders and goalies.
Going in 0-0 at half-time, both teams knew they could win the game, so it was a relief for Bloxham when Laurence Grimes' long range shot somehow squeezed over the line early in the second half. A little unlucky for Carterton but Bloxham did take control from this point on and forced a number of corners to keep up the pressure. Several goalmouth scrambles ensued and it wasn't until Logan Blackwell shot against the bar for Bloxham that the Colts began their brave fight back. With one goal in it, the final ten minutes were certainly tense and the noise level from the sidelines increased by several decibels. Danny Allsworth had a superb game for Carterton and led his team by example.
Bloxham were delighted with their narrow victory and it goes to show, a good game of football isn't just about how many goals are scored. Bad luck to the Colts. match report taken from W&DYFL Web site

We lost 1-0 in the final to Horspath after beating them 2-1 in the league

13.03.10 Carterton 3 v 1 Tower Hill

With Brackley not playing either team could have gone top of the league. Carterton won 3-1 and finished their season in style having taken maximum points from their last seven games, to sit top of the table; albeit expecting to be knocked off when Brackley play their games in hand.
Carterton started brightly and were really up for the challenge. They got off to a flying start when Harry Edwards failed to keep out MOTM Matt Dodd's shot. Matt Dodd's second was taken in great style when James Buchanan played a great through ball which Matty buried into the net from 10 yards out.
The second half saw a real turn in the play with Tower Hill dominating for long periods. A mix up clearing the ball presented substitute Ryan Lanksford an opportunity which he finished well from close range. Further pressure saw Tower get clear one on one, only for Brad Ford to make an excellent save. Carterton slowly got themselves back in the game and a great cross from the left wing by Matt Dodd was finished well by Joe Maddalena, much to the elation and relief of the home fans.
A great team performance from Carterton, who should be rightly proud of their season's achievements, finishing with six more points than last season. report from W&DYFL Web site

13.02.10  Carterton 8 v 3 Bloxham reverse fixture

The two teams met for the second time in consecutive weekends, with the fixture reversed to balance the previous week. Both teams began with 11 men and no substitutes due to the Half Term break. Carterton tried to continue from where they left off the week before but found themselves behind after 10 minutes with a quick counter attack putting the home side ahead. Carterton responded and Craig Foster pulled back an immediate equaliser. Bloxham absorbed further pressure before once more countering brilliantly; getting one on one against an in form Brad Ford to go 2-1 up at the break.
Carterton had a quick reshuffle and came out quickly, with Craig Foster grabbing the equaliser within minutes of the restart. James Buchanan made it three shortly afterwards. Aaron Cook then scored one for the dubious goals committee; his in swinging corner appearing to go straight in. James Buchanan then put the fifth over the top of the keeper from close range after good control in the box. Aaron Cook, now playing in midfield grabbed his second, following in well to finish from close range. Tom Smith, the MOTM made it seven, having worked tirelessly on the left wing. The eighth fell to Charlie McEnnis, moving from left back to centre forward. He showed his delight with a tumble roll to celebrate. Bloxham's never say die attitude was rewarded when they forced successive corners. The final one was hit goal ward and with memories of the 1966 cup final hit the bar and the maybe it did maybe it didn't cross the line was awarded as a well deserved goal.
Thanks to ref Tom Chesterman - another game played in excellent spirit. report from W&DYFL Web site

12.12.09 Middleton Cheney 1 v 1 Carterton U 11's

5.12.09 Brackley Town Saints 3 v 0 Carterton U 11's

On a lovely autumn morning Brackley entertained Carterton expecting another close hard fought match.
In the first half Brackley started brightly moving the ball well despite the sticky surface creating some good opportunities with Alex Stott and Zarius Edwards-Giraud both going close. Carterton for their part were well organised at the back and looked dangerous on the counter attack. It was the home side who struck first with Zarius producing a fine ball in which was neatly tucked into the corner by Brandon Lee. Brackley created several more chances but Charlie Kille, Jamie Lumb and Alex Stott were all thwarted by Carterton Keeper Ben Ford. Towards the end of the half Carterton came back into the match pressurising Brackley and pushing hard for the equaliser but Brackley's defensive three of Jake Manning, Rory Hamp and max England held firm until the break.
In the second half Carterton started the stronger and Brackley had to really work hard to maintain their lead with some excellent keeping by Josh James. Then came Brackley's second when Dan Stevens showed great strength and determination to turn in the box and fire home. This effectively settled the match and soon it was three nil when a Charlie Kille cross was glanced home by Dan Stevens for his second.

14.11.09 Carterton U 11's v Bloxham match postponed

7.11.09 Carterton U 11's 3 v 3 Bicester Town Colts

An excellent game of football played between two good teams.
Bicester took the lead with a good break on the counter attack, the Carterton keeper failed to get a hold on the ball and Bicester finished well. Carterton launched a good passing attack of their own which saw Joe Maddalena get the better of Jack Palmer in the Bicester goal; unfortunately a defender managed to clear his goal bound shot off the line. Bicester hit on the break again and were awarded a penalty which was well dispatched.
Carterton came out strongly second half and James Buchanan put away a good through ball from Shaheer Alam. Shortly afterwards Carterton were awarded a free kick on the left. Charlie McEnnis hit an excellent ball to the far post where Joe Maddalena was making a perfectly timed run to tap in from close range. Bicester continued to hit Carterton on the break and could have increased their tally but for some good defending from Luke Cooper and Charlie McEnnis. Bicester got their third following some sloppy defending on the edge of the Carterton box. A good strike from the edge of the box once more saw Carterton behind. They were soon back in the game when Rich Russell pulled back e delightful ball for Joe Maddalena to drive a well directed shot into the net. Rich Russell almost stole the game when his close range shot hit the bar late on. However, the game ended fairly, in a well contested draw.
Bicester's goals came from Will Hawtin (2) and Tyron Eyles. report from W&DYFL Web site

31.10.09 Carterton U 11's 7 v 1 Bampton Town

Carterton started brightly and could have scored earlier than the 15th minute opener. The break through came from a shot from James Buchanan on the right side of the six yard box. High to the roof of the net the Bampton keeper got hands to it but couldn't prevent the ball crossing the line. The second was a great finish from Matthew Dodd. The third before half time came from a great right wing run from Joe Maddalena. His cross to the far post was half volleyed by James Buchanan.
Changes at half time for Carterton did not effect their play. Joe Maddelena broke into the box and was brought down for a penalty. James Buchanan slotted it in the left corner. Bampton got themselves a good goal when they broke down the right. Brad Ford unfortunately couldn't the initial ball and Rob McKenzie slotted home. Jimbo was then brought down in the box as he looked to shoot. This time he put the ball in the right corner. He made way for Leo McLoughlin up front and he continued to cause trouble. A ball into the box saw a great volley for Matt Dodds second. The final goal came from Ex-Bampton boy Luke Cooper; his first for Carterton. He hit a great shot from outside the box, which rattled the rear stanchion.
Carterton's man of the match was Tom Puddle who worked tirelessly on the right wing and solidly at right back second half. A great all round team performance from Carterton. from W&DYFL Web site

17.10.09 Tower Hill 2 v 1 Carterton U 11's

Tower Hill entertained local rivals Carterton aiming to maintain top spot. Tower Hill had to make sweeping changes due to illness and holidays and could only muster eleven players.
Tower Hill took the lead midway in the 1st half when Bradley Evans calmly slotted past the keeper 1-0 Tower. Carterton could find no way past the sturdy defence of Tower in the first period.
Carterton pressed hard in the second half and came close to scoring but the final touch was just lacking. A great ball down the line by Daniel Squires found Alex Cowie who neatly passed to Bradley Evans who unleashed a left foot shot which beat the Carterton keeper 2-0 Tower.
Tower began to tire with Carterton making full use of their substitutes and were rewarded with a penalty which James Buchanan took confidently and the power was to much for Harry Edwards who managed to get a hand to the ball 2-1. This set up an exciting last five minutes but Tower dug deep to get the victory they deserved.
A great all round battling performance by a spirited Tower Hill team.  report from W&DYFL Web site

3.10.09 Carterton U 11's 2 v 1  Kings Sutton Youth Juniors

Carterton, playing into the wind in the first half went behind within two minutes, when a weak clearance fell straight to Stuart Howlett to score from the edge of the six yard box. Things looked bleak, particularly the weather, but Carterton kept their heads up and started to pass the ball. Shaheer Alam picked a clearance up on the half way line and played a great ball to the left for Matthew Dodd. Matt played the ball into the edge of the box where man of the match Joe Maddalena was sprinting. He took the ball around the advancing keeper and passed the ball into the empty net, 1-1. Rich Russell then went close for Carterton , beating a defender to go clear in the box, only for his finish to go just over the bar.
The second half saw Carterton replaced their keeper due to a injury. Real end to end football saw the goal in the Carterton net, beating stand in keeper Nathan Hall. Unfortunately for Kings Sutton the goal was ruled out for the providing player being offside. Carterton pressed and were rewarded with a goal from Matt Dodd from a deep Charlie McEnnis corner.match report from W&DYFL Web site

26.9.09 Carterton U 11's 2 v 3 Ducklington

Carterton started well with chances that went wide, Ducklington defended well. Jack Booth deputizing as centre half with two players out. Ducklington worked hard in midfield and balls through from Jamie Francis gave Matt Lock chances on goal that were just wide.
Ducklington defended strongly and hit Carterton on the break. Brad Ford pulled off an excellent save only for the Ducklington's Matt Lock to nick the ball and score. Carterton responded and Ashley Harding covered every blade of grass in the middle to win back the ball. Dan Wall came on and worked hard in defence. Robert Frost, Ali Chappell, Will Thompson and Cieran King showed their composure. Eventually some great work on the left got Josh Wraight in behind and he slipped his marker and finished clinically 2 nil Ducklington at the break.
Brad Ford was substituted having been hurt in the earlier save. Once again Carterton started strongly and were rewarded with a great strike from outside the box by James Buchanan. Once again Ducklington defended well and on their next counter attack Ashley Harding found the back of the net again. Carterton were then awarded a penalty when a ball struck the hand of a Ducklington player protecting his face. James Buchanan's effort was bound for the corner only for the long arms of Kieren Fallon making a good stop. Carterton continued to work the ball in the box. Matt Dodds shot was parried by the 'keeper, but James Buchanan was on hand to head home. A frantic last ten minutes saw Carterton try and try but the equaliser would not come. Well done Ducklington!
A good game in warm conditions. Ducklington's man of the match was Jack Booth match report from W&DYFL web site

12.9.09 Carterton U 11's 1 v 0 Brackley Town Saints

An incredibly exciting game to watch from start to finish, Brackley applied the initial pressure which tested Carterton's defence to the full. However, Carterton soon found there feet and counter-attacked in equal measure! As the first half unfolded, both teams had chances to open the scoring. The back four of Leo McLoughlin, Shaheer Alam, Charlie McEnnis & Aaron Cook proved almost impenetrable leaving the goalkeeper, Bradley Ford rarely tested.
Still goalless, the 2nd half continued in much the same way as the 1st. However, Carterton began to gain the upper hand with some excellent passing from midfield to the wings. Craig Foster and Matthew Dodd broke down the left and defeated the defence so the Matthew could whip the ball low and fast across the box as Joe Maddalena sped in and with an outstretched foot, scored the winner! Both Carterton & Brackley Saints played a fantastic game of end-to-end football. However, Carterton's stout defensive team, for which Aaron Cook won Man of the Match, and the team's excellent passing play lead to a tough but deserving win. match report from W&DYFL Web site

5.9.09 Carterton U 11's  5 v 0 Bourton Rovers Youth

The game started with good attacks from both sides and was very even until Carterton broke the deadlock with a goal from Matt Dodd. Joe Maddalena made it two before the interval.
Carterton started strongly in the second half with the central defensive duo of man of the match Shaheer Alam and Aaron Cook snuffing out the Bourton attacks. James Buchanan scored from close range and was also put through from the half way line, beating the keeper in a one on one. Carterton continued to attack and Rich Russell was rewarded with the fifth. Bourton battled on and were thwarted by a great tackle by Craig Foster inside the box.
Some great play from both teams. The referee Lee McGuinness had an excellent game, the boys really enjoyed themselves. match report taken from W&DFL Web site

20.02.10 Carterton U 11 Colts 3 v 3 Tower Hill Stars

A later kick off at the Monahan Way pitches in Carterton meant that the overnight frost had thankfully disappeared.
The first quarter was fairly evenly matched and both sides were passing the ball around well. After 15 minutes though, Carterton Colts' Reece D'Abreu broke through the Tower Hill defence and scored the opener. A controversial moment happened shortly after, when Reece had another chance on goal and took it. Despite protests that the ball hadn't crossed the line the referee awarded the goal to make it two up to Carterton. Just before half time. Reece D'Abreu struck again with a great strike and scored Carterton's third to make it 3-0 to Carterton.
With a huge mountain to climb, Tower Hill came out in the second half with heads held high. They were rewarded only two minutes in with a smash from Zac Kent. Tower's spirits were lifted and ten minutes later Jake Harvey made no mistake to make it 3-2. Carterton were losing some momentum and Luke Dick capitalised with a run down the left wing, crossing over to the centre and shooting to make it 3-3. The last 10 ten minutes were agonising for both sides, with both wanting the win and chances for both sides. The Ref's whistle came though and both sides had to accept the draw. report from W&DYFL Web site

17.10.09 Carterton U 11 Colts 3 v 1 Charlton District

A good start by both teams The old saying the game was end to end was true, with both teams working very hard. It was a real crowd pleaser,
Carterton scored first 14 minutes in, with a well set up goal. Charlton's keeper just could keep out. Charlton instantly replied with the midfield and the forwards working well together but hit the post and didn't go in.
The second half saw Charlton start very strong with constant attacking. It wasn't long before they got onto the score sheet. 8 minutes in Harry Brown passed into the box for Alex Bonelli to sidestep the keeper and put the ball bang in the middle of the goal. Charlton now back in the game saw both teams trying for the win. Carterton scored their second goal 22 minutes in and again in injury time. The game ended 3-1 to Carterton.
A very good game of football well done to both teams and the ref. Charlton's player of the match Alex Bonelli.  report from W&DYFL Web site

3.10.09 Charlbury Town Youth 2 v 1  Carterton U 11 Colts

The game started with Charlbury on the attack, and this was pretty much how the first half went. But Carterton were strong and defended well, also had a few chances of their own. Charlbury took the lead through Ross Hedigan after some good play from Charlbury's midfield, and went in 1-0 up at half time.
Second half saw Carterton the stronger and really had a go at getting the equaliser, and did so with Jordan Clack squeezing the ball through a crowded defence. This seemed to wake Charlbury up, as Ross Hedigan scored his second goal from the edge of the box.
Both teams played with good spirit which made a great game of football, well done. Charlbury man of the match was Charlie Quaterman. match report from W&DYFL Web site

19.9.09 Azard Hill 1 v 7 Carterton U 11 Colts

12.9.09 Yarnton Blues 3 v 4 Carterton U 11 Colts

The game started end to end with both sides creating chances. The deadlock was broken in the 12th minute when Yarnton's Lloyd Belcher was brought down in the penalty area. The Carterton keeper saved the spot kick but Lloyd followed up and slotted the rebound home. Carterton then pushed forward and equalised soon after. With good attacking play Carterton took the lead in the 21st minute.
Yarnton were eager for the equaliser and came out in the second half looking for it. They created an early chance but good positional play by the away keeper Douglas Grimsley Moore prevented it. Carterton increased their lead to 4-1 with two goals in the space of a few minutes. Yarnton replied with their best spell of the game pushing Carterton back into their own half and putting pressure on the visiting defence. Lloyd Belcher pulled a goal back for the Blues by chipping the keeper from out wide. The home side continued to dominate the play and reduced the deficit further when Alistair Grimes slid the ball past Carterton's advancing keeper. Even though Carterton looked dangerous on the break the Blues continued to push forward for the equaliser but time ran out on them.
Carterton's goals came from Jordan Clack, Reece D'Abreu, Cameron Tweedle (2).
Well done to both teams for an entertaining, hard fought match which was played in the right spirit. Thank you to Mark Rippington for standing in at the last minute to ref the match and both linesmen.  match report from W&DYFL Web site

5.9.09 Witney Vbikings Youth 1 v 1 Carterton U 11 Colts

A great game played in a fantastic spirit in beautiful weather
A tight first half saw the goalkeepers Douglas Grimsley and Oli Deans deny the opposing strikers. Witney Vikings were unlucky not to be given a penalty when Danny McGarry appeared to be brought down in the box
Ryan Lock broke the deadlock in the second half for Carterton with a rasping shot from outside the box which took a deflection. Vikings equalised with seven minutes to go when Oli Thomas lashed the ball in from close range after Carterton had blocked six shots in quick succession. match report taekn from W&DYFL Web site

Enstone produced their best performance of the season as they took the points from this entertaining game. Ralph Watts struck a fine goal on ten minutes and Josh Hunt added another shortly afterwards with a left footed volley.
In the second half Hunt headed the hosts further in front from a good corner by Shaun Kemp. Jack Davies hammered home the visitors goal with five minutes left, but Enstone didn't panic and held on for a deserved win.
The match was well refereed by Zach Knowles and was competitive but sporting throughout.report from WDYFL Web site

A pleasant spring afternoon saw Tower Hill overcome their local rivals Carterton Colts by just the odd goal. An even start to the game saw both teams playing some good football. After a couple of heavy defeats Bampton looked a different team, competing well and creating some good moves. Bampton got their reward on 25 minutes, a throw found Jake Prichard who best the defender to pull the ball across from the by-line, where Josh Rawle scored at the second attempt from close range.
The second half proved equally tight, with Carterton given a boost early on by a penalty award which surprised all. Josh Herbert scored emphatically. The game could have gone either way as both teams had chances but it was Carterton who took theirs with a goal from close range by Mahir Alam. Bampton pushed hard and had chances to equalise with both Jake Prichard and Haydn Parker going close. 13.12.09 Deddington Town Colts 3 v 1 Carterton U 12 Colts

Deddington Colts came away with a good 3-1 win against an ever-competitive Carterton side.
The game was even at the start, with both sides searching for an advantage. The first goal came from a fantastic strike from James Smith from out on the right, which went over the Carterton keeper and hit the top back of the net. Deddington started to string some good passes together, something that had been missing from their game of late, but Carterton continued to be a threat and they levelled the score just before half-time with a fierce shot from Thomas Harvey, nearly saved by Jordan Lafferty in the Deddington goal.
In the second half, Deddington continued to press and they went ahead with a smartly taken lob over the keeper from James Hunt. The game was put beyond Carterton a few minutes later with another excellently stuck shot from the edge of the box from James Rawlinson, to cap another fine game for him. There was still time for Carterton to threaten and Daniel Patterson had to head a hard-driven free kick off the line to maintain the two goal lead. match report from W&DYFL Web site

8.11.09 Carterton U 12 Colts 5 v 2 Bampton Town

Carterton started strongly and with the wind and the slope in their favour pinned Bampton in their own half. This quickly paid off with a shot from just inside the box giving them a 1-0 lead. Soon after Bampton failed to clear their lines and the lead was doubled. A corner led to the third - a good header but unchallenged by the Bampton defence. Bampton did manage a good spell before half time, Karl Prichard doing good work down the left for Josh Rawle to head just wide and then have a good shot unfortunately straight at the keeper. Carterton then went down the other end and scored a fourth - another good header.
The second half saw Bampton have more of the play and start to show a bit more composure on the ball. A Callum Hooper corner was eventually stabbed home by Joe Kaluza to get one back, and Karl Prichard kept his cool to run through from half way and beat the keeper one-on-one. A couple of half chances for Bampton led to nothing and Carterton made the result comfortable with a fifth goal, looping over the keeper. match report from W&DYFL Web site

1.11.09 Tower Hill 2 v 0 Carterton U 12 Colts

Traditionally this local derby produces a tight game and again this was the case. Despite the very windy conditions both teams adapted well. Tower with the wind at their backs first half took advantage by going in 2-0 at the break. Matt Knapton ghosted in to drill home from a corner after 10 minutes. James Morgan got the second with a tap in after great lung bursting runs from both him and Jack Wood who unselfishly set him up.
Playing into the wind second half meant Tower struggled to clear their lines but they showed great determination in keeping a clean sheet. Although the visitors got a number of shots off Tower keeper Macaulay Lewis was equal to everything thrown at him. The Tower defenders heroically threw themselves at everything and held on for the win. Tower Man of the Match awards went to Matt Knapton, back to his commanding best, and Macaulay Lewis who had probably his best game in goal and gave his defence an injection of confidence.
Well done to both teams who battled hard to master the conditions. from W&DYFL Web site

Carterton Colts and Deddington Town Colts played out a hard fought 0-0 draw to keep each side's unbeaten record, so far this season.
Deddington could only field ten players after a series of injuries and illnesses hit their squad, but they acquitted themselves well against a well- organised Carterton team who were looking to hit winning ways after a 2-2 draw with Hook Norton the previous week. In defence for Deddington, Josh Gibbins, Charlie McKay and DJ Patterson were immense, while in mid-field, James Rawlinson, Caleb Shepherd and skipper, Lewis Bullard worked tirelessly to make up for being a player down. Neither team could find the telling opening and in the end had to settle for a point a piece. match report from W&DYFL Web site

An entertaining game with both teams working hard and playing some really good football. Hooky kept up their heads playing some good football with a superb shot from Jack Aitken making it 2-2 at half time.

6.12.09 Carterton U 12's 1v 2 Bloxham

Carterton started the game well and were soon putting the Bloxham defence under pressure. Bloxham goalkeeper, Owen Humphreys was called into action early making some great saves. The game began to flow from end to end and Bloxham striking due Craig Charles & Luke Barton combined well and both saw chances saved. In the 19th Minute Carterton were awarded a free kick just outside the Bloxham area. The free kick went straight through everyone and into the Bloxham net. With half time approaching William Adams sent Craig free on the left. Craig cut round the defender and placed his shot low into the corner to make it 1-1. Craig had a chance to make it two in a minute when he beat the keeper to a free ball, only to see it trickle wide of the post.
Bloxham started the second half and Andrew MacLennan sent Luke Barton free on the left. Luke cut round 3 defenders and into the Carterton area. With everyone thinking he was going to shoot he rolled the ball to Lewis Bletchley, who fired Bloxham ahead. With the game flowing at a frantic pace Carterton began to pile pressure on the Bloxham defence as time began to run out. Owen again making some great saves. Carterton went for one final push with a cross shot being parried by Owen. The free ball fell to a Carterton player who smashed it towards goal. Bloxham captain, Jack Welch, found himself on the goal line and took the full force of the shot in the chest, getting winded, and denying a certain goal. The referee blew for full time and Bloxham were relieved to have all three points.
A fantastic game of football, well done to all the players. Thanks also to referee Dave How . Bloxham man of the match was William Thompson - solid defending.

8.11.09 KO Cup 1st rnd Bloxham 1 v 2 Carterton U 12's

Carterton emerge victorious from this 'B' division cup clash.
Bloxham dominated the first half, but struggled to find the net. Just before half time a Jack Gill corner was cleared out to Luke Barton on the edge of the box. He drove the ball back into the Carterton area and Brandon Haden pounced to give the home team the half time advantage.
Carterton started the second half and went straight on the attack. Bloxham failed to clear, and a looping shot found its way over the stranded Owen Humphries. Carterton continued to press and when Bloxham gave the ball away on their right side the Carterton winger had one thing in mind. He raced past two Bloxham players and crossed into the area. With the Bloxham defence all at sea the Carterton striker pounced to give them the lead. Carterton Bloxham held a late Bloxham charge and sealed their win.
Well played all, and well supported. Thanks also to referee Tony Moore. Bloxham Man of the Match - Brandon Haden report from W&DYFL Web site

20.9.09 Bloxham 2 v 0 Carterton U 12's

Carterton started the game well and were soon putting the Bloxham defence under pressure. Bloxham goalkeeper, Owen Humphreys was called into action early making some great saves. As hard as they tried Carterton failed to find a way through a strong Bloxham defence. Bloxham looked comfortable playing on the break and in the 18th minute midfielder William Adams broke up a Carterton attack. He played a long ball over the Carterton defence. Craig Charles was first to the ball, controlled it and slotted his shot under the advancing goalkeeper, to give Bloxham the lead. Carterton continued to press but Jack Welch, William Thompson, George Hall and Andrew MacLennan kept them at bay.
Bloxham started the second half a lot better than they started the first and pushed the Carterton defence back. Jake Knapton and Luke Barton kept wide and stretched the play. Jake won the ball in his own half and sprinted down the left wing. He played the ball forward to Brandon Haden, who turned and played the ball through to Craig. The defender was first to the ball, but unfortunately under hit the pass back to the goalkeeper. Craig pounced on the loose ball, rounded the keeper, and from a tight angle rolled the ball into an empty net. Bloxham held a late Carterton charge and sealed their first win of the season.
Well played all, and well supported. Thanks also to referee Tom Edwards. Bloxham Man of the Match was Andrew MacLennan. match report taken from W&DYFL Web site

From the whistle Carterton began very strong and the game was played in Chipping Norton's half for the first ten minutes. Then Chippy broke the deadlock with Lewis Smith scoring. Carterton soon responded with a goal from Max Davison. Two more goals from Chippy from Harry Lewis and Lewis Smith ended the first half.
The second half Carterton continued to battle hard despite playing with 10 men due to injury and no subs available. However Chippy kept the pressure on with further goals from Dan Case, Tom Hovard and a hattrick from Lewis Smith. report from WDYFL web site

21.02.10 Hook Norton 8 v 1Carterton U 13 Colts

Hooky overcame Carterton 8-1 but it was nine-man Carterton who took the honours with a gutsy backs to the wall performance. At no point in the game could you tell they had only nine as they ran their socks off. Adam Pink was in superb form in the Carterton goal - one flying save from a Jack Wilkinson pile driver was the pick of them. Josh Hunt with three, Will Hardy (2), Dale Miller, Jamie Hawkins and Clinton Brown were Hooky's scorers. Dan Frost looked a class act in the Carterton midfield. Will Hayes grabbed Carterton's deserved goal.
Man of match for Hooky was Harry Thompson. Thanks to referee Marcus Thompson. report from W&DYFL Web site

6.12.09 Under-13 Knock-Out Cup - 2nd Round Carterton U 13 Colts 1 v 7 Highfield Juniors

Despite the blustery conditions both Highfield and Carterton produced an exciting game of football to watch. Highfield took control in the first half and although they were playing into the wind went 3-0 up with goals from Mike Palmer and Ben Cooke (2).
The second half continued in the same vain with Highfield dominating and two further goals from Ben Cooke took the score to 5-0, despite the score line Carterton did not let their game drop and they eagerly pushed forward, their hard work rewarded by Kia Camball scoring from a corner cross. However Highfield kept on top of their game and 2 more goals from Charlie Carter and Luke Dyer gave Highfield the 7-1 win.
Highfield's man of the match was Ben Cooke. report from W&DYFL Web site

29.11.09 Carterton U 13 Colts 3 v 7 Hook Norton

Hooky continued their fine start to the season with a 7-3 away victory over Carterton Colts.
Hooky took a while to settle but after ten minutes Dale Miller broke clear to make it 1-0 with a cool finish. Alex Thornton made it 2-0 with a great strike from 20 yards, however a rare Hooky defensive mix-up allowed the Carterton centre forward to finish in style - game on. Miller scored his second to make it 3-1, and on the stroke of half time Thornton notched his second with a brilliant finish shrugging off two defenders and the keeper - 4-1.
After the break Hooky played their best football creating numerous chances. Will Hardy helped himself to a quick fire hat-trick to make it 7-1. To Carterton's credit they still committed players forward and were rewarded with two late goals - a great strike from 20 yards and fantastic header to make the final score 7-3.
Game played in horrible conditions in a good spirit excellently refereed by Cliff Groves. Man of match for Hooky was Clinton Brown.

1.11.09 Carterton U 13 Colts 5 v 3 Bampton Town

A blustery morning greeted us into Winter and what we can expect over the coming months.
Despite a strong wind, both teams adapted well to the conditions and were prepared to use the fantastic Kilkenny Lane playing surface.
Bampton’s defence was disturbed by the early loss to injury of Ollie Squires as Carterton started the stronger but were unable to convert their early chances. They were made to pay when a speculative ball into the box from Liam Court caused confusion in the Carterton defence, resulting in an own goal.
Not to be deterred, Carterton continued to play out of defence against the wind and were rewarded when a flowing move set up Max Davison for a composed finish. Bampton then came more into the game with good efforts from Liam Court and Ryan Oliver bringing smart saves from the stand-in keeper Will Hayes. However Hayes could only watch as an excellent effort from Charlie West crashed against the inside of a post and escaped to safety. At the other end Luke James came close but the Bampton keeper saved well at his near post. As the game swung from end to end Carterton won a succession of corners but it was from one of these that Bampton cleared to the half way line where Charlie West sprinted through to finish well. Just as the halftime kettle began to boil Carterton broke again and a wonderful interchange of passes between Joe Brown and Max Davison set up Luke James who calmly finished from 12 yards.
Half Time 2-2.
The second half continued as the previous one had ended with end to end passing from both teams with chances at both ends and it was again Bampton who took the lead. Ryan Oliver received the ball 30 yards from goal surrounded by four Carterton players and with seemingly nowhere to go. Despite this, he weaved his way through like Franz Klammer in his hey day and capped it with a fine finish, leaving Hayes no chance.
This only seemed to spur Carterton on as they refused to lie down. Driven on by Frost & Squire in the midfield the Bampton keeper was forced into a succession of good saves, but he could do nothing as Joe Brown raced onto to Connor Snowdon’s free kick and calmly slotted into the far corner of the net. Carterton then sensed this could be their day and after a goal line melee Keir Campbell srambled the ball over the line to put them in front for the first time. Max Davison then sealed the victory with a long range effort which sailed in on the wind to conclude a pulsating game, well refereed by Cliff Grove and played by two excellent teams.
Full Time 5-3

Yarnton gained their first league points with a strong performance against a spirited Carterton Colts side.
Ben Millard-Green put Yarnton in front only for Colts to hit back straight away. Yarnton then scored three more first half goals from Matteo Barraclough, Daniel Cadoret and Rob Henwood.
The second half was a much closer contest but Millard-Green added a fifth against the run of play. Colts added a second and put the home defence under a lot of pressure late on but Yarnton held firm to secure the win.
Colts scorers were Connor Snowdon and Daniel Frost. match report from W&DYFL Web site

Match report

28.03.10 Hook Norton 0 v 0 Carterton

Another fantastic game between these two equally good teams. Full of passion and desire right from the start with some very solid performances by both sets of players. This is how football should be played, grit and determination not to loose from the visitors and the ball would just not fall right for the terrific Hooky side. The majority of the positive play was shown from the home side and a number of opportunities went missing or were defended exceptionally well by Carterton.
Best of luck to teams that come up against Hook Norton or Carterton next season.  report from WDYFL Web site

29.11.09 Bicester Town Colts 2 v 4 Carterton U 14's

In an even match that saw both teams chances to win the game Carterton took their chances. Bicester had to retake a penalty kick three times, scored the first two and missed the third - a great penalty save by Jamie Busby in the Bicester goal kept them in it. But Bicester missed too many chances and Carterton deserved the win.
Bicester scorers were Corey Butler and Jack Atkins. Carterton scorers were Joe Balaan (2), Aaron Light and Tonas Ihzor.
Well played both sets of players and all the best to joint man of the Jack Atkins who is moving to Blackpool, other man of the match was Harry Clanfield.

20.9.09 Ducklington 1 v 2 Carterton U 14's

Both teams battled hard, but it was the away team who came out top.
In the first half Carterton scored two goals in quick succession by Thomas Mazur and Joe Baldwin. Ducklington applied pressure in the second half and a goal by Nick Angus was in vain as Carterton held their nerve to edge out a win.
Well played both teams. match report taken from W&DYFL Web site

11.10.09 North Leigh 13 v 0 Carterton U 15's

North Leigh dominated this game against a depleted but spirited Carterton side.
North opened the scoring with the clock on just twenty one seconds, Shaun Hiles finishing from close range after a neat passing move, Tom Weedon soon after added a second. Shaun Hiles then helped himself to another with a great effort for the third, but in doing so picked up a nasty injury and couldn't continue. James Turner, Tom Weedon and Aaron Bowerman added further goals to leave it 7-0 at the break.
North grabbed another in the first minute of the second half through Tom Weedon. A convincing victory was completed with further goals from James Turner, Jack Meagher and North's man of the match Aaron Bowerman.  report from W&DYFL Web site

31.01.10 Carterton U15 Colts 1 v 11 AFC Marlborough

Andy Gillespie opened the scoring on 15 minutes for AFCM and added two more in the second-half. George and Jack Knight both scored before James Bateman added a fourth - this being the goal of the match. James had his back to goal, knocked the ball over his head, turned and volleyed into the net. Kieran Skews got one back for Carterton just before half-time.
In the second half, Andy Gillespie again opened the scoring getting his second of the match. Josh Hartig scored the first of his hat-trick from the penalty spot. George Knight added his second and Andy Gillespie his third before Callum Emmet scored directly from a free-kick. It was nearly all one traffic for most of the second half, and but for some poor finishing the score could have been even higher. Report from W&DYFL Web site

24.01.10 Charlbury Town Youth 11 v 0 Carterton U15 Colts

Charlbury eventually coasted to an easy victory against eight-man Carterton Colts.
A scrappy first half display saw them 3-0 up, with goals by Tom Shefford, Sam Pullen and Matt Empson.
The second half saw a lot of improvement and a further two goals from Sam Pullen and goals from Joe Cascone, Haydn Hollings, Alex Metcalfe, Luke Jones, Harry Turner and Liam Dunkley.
Full credit to all the Carterton players who never gave up and were denied a consolation goal close to the end when a shot came back off the post. report from W&DYFL Web site

18.10.09 AFC Malrborough 2 v 0 Carterton U15 Colts

In this competitive match, Carterton who were looking for their first win of the season made it difficult for AFC Marlborough in the first half. Chances were few but Marlborough had the most of the attacking play. The deadlock was broken after 35 minutes once again by Marlborough's captain, Andy Gillespie with a low angled drive past the outstretched hands of the goalie.
Marlborough started brightest after the break, but it took another 15 minutes before they added to their lead. George Knight cut to the bye-line on the edge of the area and lifted a cross to Josh Hartig who headed in at the far post. Carterton never gave up and came back strongly in the last quarter of an hour. Only a spectacular diving save from Marlborough's goalkeeper, Jimmy Clark maintained the clean sheet, as he which knocked the ball onto the foot of the post, and scrambled after it to make it secure. Jimmy Clark got Man of the Match for keeping a clean sheet. Marlborough sought to add to their lead, and a long-range lob from the half-way line by Sam Bodinham went just inches wide.  report from W&DYFL Web site

11.10.09 Carterton U15 Colts 0 v 7 Charlbury Town Youth

Charlbury managed a first win of the season in wet conditions at Carterton.
The match started fairly evenly with few chances until some good work by Tom Shefford in defence led to a pass from Sam Pullen, which Harry Hall latched onto. His pressure forced the keeper into a mistake and Harry rolled the ball into an empty net. Shortly afterwards, a shot by Stuart Webb rolled under the keeper and Harry hall followed up to poke the ball home. Two more goals from Harry, one a fine shot from 30 yards out, made it 4-0 at half time.
The second half continued in the same way, and it was soon 5-0, Alex Metcalfe capping a fine debut with the goal. Further goals from Harry Hall and Harry Turner made the final score 7-0.
Good luck to Carterton for the rest of the season - report from W&DYFL Web site

Mafikeng Visit 1.4.10

On Thursday 1st April Carterton FC entertained two touring schools football teams from Mafikeng, North West Province, South Africa.

Mafikeng, were touring the South East of England and were looking for a couple games of football, Carterton were able to host them and played two games consecutively with our U15's kicking off at 5.30, followed by our U16's at 7.30. Though the weather was very English, wet and windy! The South Africans thoroughly enjoyed their visit and the football.  Both games were well contested and played in a good spirit.  Though both scorelines flattered Carterton, the experience for all the players was great, enjoying two completely different cultures and styles of football.
