02.04.11 U 9's KO Cup Final Banbury Town Youth 1 v 2 Carterton

report from W&DYFL Web site:- From the first whistle it was clear this was going to be a closely fought contest although Banbury Town had the best of the opening play with some nervous moments for Carterton keep William Fletcher with shots from Lewis Middleton and Thomas Shaw. Banbury continued to press but were always open to the break away attack but their solid defence of James Speck and Finlay Manaley kept Carterton at bay, and left Banbury town keeper Jack Holloway with little to do. Despite some great football from both sides the half ended goalless.

It was Banbury Town who started the second half better, with the ever busy Jamie Dagg running midfield. One of his telling runs produced a corner from which Town got the opening goal. The corner, taken by Thomas Shaw, crept in at the near post. Almost immediately Carterton replied with a move that started on the wing, and with Banbury Town unable to clear their line a close range shot from Liam Carter into the roof of the net gave the Town keeper little chance to make the stop. Banbury Town didn't let their heads drop and the next 5 minutes produced some good attacking football from both teams. With 5 minutes to go, Town were awarded a free kick just outside to the left of the penalty area. This was the sort of position that Lewis Middleton has been scoring from all season. And so with Dominic Shaffner making himself busy in front of the Carterton keeper Lewis let fly with his right foot - unstoppable. Banbury town made a late substitution with Harry Draper coming on in defence for Finlay Manaley, and as the clock ran down it was still Banbury who were still on the attack.

Well done to all the players, spectators and coaches who showed great respect and behaviour in what was a tense but fitting end to the Under 9 season.

Carterton scorer: Liam Carter. Banbury Town scorers: Thomas Shaw and Lewis Middleton.

12.03.11 U 9's KO Cup - Semi Final Carterton U 9's 1 v 1 Witney Vikings All-Stars         (AET (1-1) - PEN: 5-4)

report from W&DYFL Web site:- Carterton 1 Witney Vikings Youth All-Stars 1 (Carterton won on pens)
An incredible semi-final played at a great pace throughout by two very good teams in very good spirit. A proper end to end cup tie from first whistle to last, with both teams challenging to the very end. Vikings took the early lead with a Moez Ghab goal, with Carterton equalising just before half time with a Ben Bellenger strike.
It stayed dead lock throughout the second half and extra time with both teams coming close to scoring on a number of occasions.
Carterton just shade it by scoring all five penalties, Vikings unfortunately missing one.
A great advertisement for youth football and a great day had by all. Unfortunately someone had to lose.
Carterton scorer: Ben Bellenger. Witney scorers: Moez Ghab.

26.02.11 Hook Norton 1 Carterton 1

match report from W&DYFL Web site:- Carterton opened the scoring in the first minute, on a very soggy morning. Hook Norton fought back and just before the end of the first half, Oliver Sammons scored a good goal for Hooky to bring the half time score to 1-1.

The second half was very closely fought, with Hook Norton missing a penalty, and Carterton having a number of chances but no further goals were scored.

Hook Norton scorer: Oliver Sammons.

19.02.11 Stonesfield Strikers 1 Carterton 5
report from W&DYFL Web site:- Before kick-off, the two top placed sides in the U9 Green league lined up to be greeted with rapturous applause from supporters to mark both side's achievements this season. Stonesfield's last game of the season was a fine example of grassroots football at its very best.
Both teams played some wonderful football at times, but it was Carterton who took the early advantage, and were one up within minutes. Stonesfield applied pressure and came close to an equaliser. Both teams worked hard to find the next break, which fell to Carterton. A well struck cross saw Stonesfield's keeper narrowly beaten at the near post. Stonesfield were determined to get something from the first half, and were rewarded with a well timed strike from close range before half time.
Carterton started brightly in the second half, but Stonesfield defended resolutely for a time. However, two goals in quick succession gave Carterton the advantage. They finished the job with a well taken fifth to win convincingly. Carterton deserved the 3 points land look destined to win the league, but Stonesfield can take away many positives from their impressive performance. The team spirit and sense of fair play in both teams was a credit to grassroots football.
Stonesfield scorers: Roman Harris. Carterton scorers: Harry Hunt, Liam Carter, Tyler Webster and Ben Bellenger (2).

05.02.11 U 9's KO Cup -4th round -  Eynsham Youth 1-2 Carterton

match report from WDYFL web site:- Eynsham Youth 1 Carterton 2 On a blustery morning Eynsham and Carterton met in the KO Cup quarter finals.
Eynsham played with the wind behind them in the first half and created a few early chances but could not make them count. They took the lead after a bad clearance fell to the feet of Dylan Butler and he chipped the goalie to put Eynsham 1-0 up at half time.
The second half saw Carterton start the stronger with the wind assisting them this time round, Carterton equalised when the ball squirmed away from Zach in the Eynsham goal and Conner Radden slotted the ball home from close range, The game was end to end and Eynsham had several chances to get their lead back but they could not make them count, Carterton got their 2nd goal and what turned out to be the winner from a corner which Eynsham failed to clear and Ben Bellenger volleyed home at the back post. Eynsham pushed to the very end but could not get the goal they needed and time ran out.
The game was played in a good spirit and could of gone either way, but good luck to Carterton in the next round.
Eynsham scorer: Dylan Butler. Carterton scorers: Conner Radden and Ben Bellenger.

13.11.10 report from WDYFL Web site:- Carterton 1 Hook Norton 1
Another well fought game was played by both teams with end to end football throughout. Both keepers had to make some excellent saves during the first half which ended 0-0.
Both teams started the second half brightly trying to get the first goal which eventually came when a Hook Norton player took a long throw in which found Max Harris who struck the ball in to the back of the net. Carterton kept battling and soon after Joseph Justin made a dynamic run, whipped in a cross which found Carterton man of the match Liam Felstead who hammered the ball in to the roof of the Hook Norton goal. Both teams stepped up the pace to find the elusive winning goal but the game ended in a 1-1 draw which was a fair result for both teams.
Carterton scorer: Liam Felstead. Hooky scorer: Max Harris.

30.10.10 report from WDYFL Web site:- Carterton 1 Bampton Town 1
As always in this fixture both teams started fiercely, battling for every ball. The game was even through the 1st half with the ball being played end to end which kept both goalkeepers involved from the off. Bampton Town broke the deadlock with a well worked goal with Oli Crossley having the final touch by slipping the ball in to the Carterton goal. Just before half time Carterton drew level after the ball broke from a goal mouth scramble to Joseph Justin who fired the ball through the Bampton defence and in to the back of the Bampton net.
The second half was very similar to the 1st with both teams trying to find the winning goal. The game ended 1-1 which was a fair result and all the spectators enjoyed a very entertaining game of football.
Carterton man of the match was Ben Stephens.

25.09.10 Carterton v Banbury united Youth Spencer

Yet another hard fought game for Carterton, which took 15 minutes of end-to-end football before Carterton took the lead with a Liam Felstead goal. In the 2nd half Banbury United Youth Spencer came out looking for a goal and were rewarded when Jack Kendal threw a long ball in to the Carterton box which went through a group of players and found its way in to the back of the Carterton net. Carterton kept on battling and just before the final whistle the ball broke towards the Banbury keeper and after a mix up with the keeper and a defender Liam Felstead kept pushing for the ball and managed to slide the ball in to the net for his and Carterton's 2nd.

Man of the Match: Liam Felstead

18.09.10 report from WDYFL Web site: Carterton 2 Bicester Town Colts Stars 1    Carterton's first home fixture turned out to be another well fought game by both sides.
Both teams had their chances in the first half and eventually Carterton took the lead with a Joseph Justin header from a well taken corner by Jack Romanek.
The second half started brightly and Carterton soon extended their lead with a long ball over the top with Liam Felstead clinically sliding the ball underneath the Bicester Town Colts Stars keeper. The away team kept battling and Tristan Aldridge pulled a goal back to make the final few minutes very edgy for both sides. Man of the Match: Jack Romanek.
Scorers: Carterton: Joseph Justin and Liam Felstead. Stars: Tristan Aldridge.

11.09.10 report from WDYFL Web site:- Bardwell 1 Carterton 2
A good start to the season from two evenly matched teams. Bardwell dominated the game early on with good possession. Then after four minutes came a cracking goal from well outside the area by Ashley Thompson. With few other good goal scoring chances the teams went into half time with Bardwell 1-0 up.
The second half saw a renewed Carterton come out fighting but Bardwell were able to deal with the pressure comfortably well with a good solid defensive performance. However, they were unable to extend their lead from the chances they had. This proved decisive when Carterton scored late on with two well worked goals from set play giving them the win.

Great game of boys football to watch well done all.

As a parent of one of the Tower Hill Stars players who played against Carterton Under 11s on Saturday, I just wanted to say thank you for inviting all the players back to Kilkenny Lane for sausage and chips after the game.
The two teams have been neck and neck throughout the season and this invite sent a clear message that sportsmanship and respect are the real winners, irrespective of who comes out on top at the end of the season.
It's also important that gestures like this are properly acknowledged and recognised, which is why I've also copied in one or two members of our club and the WDYFL.
Thanks again and good luck for the rest of the season and beyond.
regards, Liam Walsh

05.03.11 KO Cup - Semi final - Ducklington 8 v 1 Carterton U 11 Colts

report from W&DYFL Web site:- Under 11 Knock-Out Cup - Semi-Final     Ducklington 8 Carterton Colts 1
A dry, but cold morning greeted the teams at Ducklington for the semi-final of the Under 11s Knock-Out Cup. Carterton Colts defeated Chasewell Park in the last round and were looking to cause another upset against A League opposition this time out.
Both teams started well, but Duck spent most of the first fifteen minutes camped in the Carterton half of the pitch and again failed to score, due to some great goal keeping and bad luck for Duck. Ollie Stacey changed that after about twenty minutes when he took the ball down the right wing, breaking into the box and shooting hard and low across the keeper, into the far corner. Carterton equalised before half time when a long throw was put into the Duck box, Devon Wright tried to clear the ball on the turn, but hit it straight against the Carterton forward and it rebounded into the Duck goal. The half finished at 1-1 and Carterton were sensing another upset.
That upset almost came into being at the start if the second half when Carterton scored, only for play to be called back for an off-side flag. That was Carterton's last real chance of an upset, as Duck took full control. The second relieved the pressure and opened the flood gates. Brendan Neal did well down the right wing to keep the ball in and pass back to Harvey Savin. His first time pass found Tom Dove in the box and he hit a shot through a crowd of players and into the goal. Ollie Stacey then scored his second from inside the box to make it 3-1. Duck forced a corner and Robbie Cockcroft headed the ball home into the far corner for Duck's fourth. Harvey Savin scored a fortuitous goal from long range, when after all his heroics of the first half, the Carterton keeper came for the ball, but it bounced over him and into the empty net. Finlay Heritage scored his first and second in quick succession. Both Ollie and Finners had great chances to get their hat-tricks today, but they never came. The last Duck goal came from an unlikely source in Connor O'Hickey. Callum Davies brought the ball out of defence and drove on before passing the ball to Finners in the box where he was tackled, but the ball broke to Connor who shot first time, low into the corner of the net. Duck had multiple chances to score. Devon Wright hit a free kick just wide. Finners shot just over from a corner and Taylor Southam hit the bar from another corner.
Duck have made it to the final for the second year in a row and, on this evidence, should give either Tower Hill or Chesterton a good final. Well done to Carterton for a great match and giving a very good account of themselves.
Ducklington scorers: Finlay Heritage (2), Ollie Stacey (2), Harvey Savin, Robbie Cockcroft, Tom Dove and Connor O'Hickey.

27.02.11 Carterton 4 Grendon Rangers 5

20.02.11 Carterton 2 Tower Hill 2
report from W&DYFL Web site:- Carterton entertained Tower Hill pushing for the runner's up spot. This local derby was always going to be a hard fought with Tower not beaten this season and Carterton had not conceded at home.
The game didn't disappoint, both teams had early chances. Solid defending from Shaheer Alam and man of the match Charlie McEnnis were keeping Tower out, but their pressure finally counted as Joey Aust was brought down and Elliot Heritage duly dispatched the penalty to make it 1-0 Tower. This woke up the home team who started to put their passing game together and after a great team move involving James Buchanan and Ryan Lanksford, Tom Smith equalised for Carterton. Carterton were now in the ascendency and soon after went ahead with a great looping shot from Matt Dodd.
Tower Hill tried hard to square the game but Carterton defended superbly. Carterton were creating numerous chances with Matt Dodd shooting just wide and a great move between Ryan and Tom Smith lead to another chance. Ryan also brought out a great save from the Tower goalie Harry Edwards and another cross just missed the outstretched legs of Matt and Jo Maddalena for a certain goal. Tower Hill refused to give up and Joey Aust hit a lovely through ball for Bradley Evans to run onto and grab the equaliser 2-2. With seven minutes left both teams of supporters had to endure some tense moments at both ends before the final whistle was blown. This game as the referee stated at the end "Was the best game of football that he had refereed at all levels!"
Great credit to both teams on producing a fantastic display of football and good luck to Carterton in their final league games.
Carterton scorers: Tom Smith and Matt Dodd. Tower Hill scorers: Elliot Heritage (pen) and Bradley Evans.

13.02.11 Carterton 6 Kings Sutton Youth Royals 0
match report from W&DYFL Web site:- This match would be critical for both teams who are challenging each other for at least second in the League! Despite the rain, both teams made early challenges for the lead. However, it was Carterton who made the break through when Craig Foster opened the scoring with a well-placed shot. The Game, was end-to-end for the first 20 minutes, with a couple of solid chances for the visitors. Nevertheless, Carterton settled into the match and were passing the ball with greater confidence.
Almost immediately after Half Time, Jordan Williams made an excellent turn in the box for the second goal. Carterton now commanded the game with superb movement and use of the wings that kept King Sutton on the back foot. More goals followed including a fantastic header from Ryan Lanksford, a great strike from Matt Dodd into the top of the net. Further goals from Matt Dodd and Joe Maddelana concluded another fantastic performance from Carterton U12s who have now scored 51 goals in six games and have conceded only two!
Carterton were under strength today due to a number of injuries but proved their grit and determination in tough conditions against a King Sutton Team that challenged them at times, but ultimately couldn't find a way through. A valiant effort nonetheless as they never gave up. Well done Carterton!
Carterton scorers: Matt Dodd(2), Craig Foster, Ryan Lanksford, Joe Maddelana and Jordan Williams.

29.01.11 match report from WDYFL Web site:- Carterton 5 Ducklington 0
On a cold sunny afternoon Carterton welcomed Ducklington after several weeks on the road.
It was a nervy start by both teams but Carterton soon took control of the game. After some good interplay from the home team Leo Mcloughlin took the ball forward and passed to Ryan Lanksford whose through ball found Craig Foster, who scored. Carterton were now pressing forward with Matt Dodd always a threat on the wing and great efforts from Craig Foster, Joe Maddalena and a header just wide from 'man of the match' Tom Smith. After further good play from Tom one of Ducklington's defenders headed into his own goal. The first half was very one sided with Carterton dominating play.
The second half started with early pressure from the home team, but Ducklington threatening on the counter attack. However a third goal was coming and after a great cross from Leo, Tom Smith headed home to make it 3-0. Ducklington were now under severe pressure, Tom Smith hit the bar and after a goalmouth scramble Ben Moss also hit the bar and Leo scored from the rebound 4-0 to Carterton. Tom then made a great run and crossed for Ryan Lanksford to make it 5-0. The game ended with Carterton pushing forward. A special thanks to Carterton's defence who had very solid game led by Shaheer Alam and Charlie McEnnis and Captain Luke Cooper marshalling the midfield. Well done to Ducklington who never gave up and were always a threat on the counter attack.
Carterton scorers: Tom Smith, Craig Foster, Leo Mcloughlin, Ryan Lanksford and an own goal.

21.11.10  Tower Hill 2 Carterton 0
report from WDYFL Web site:-As Tower Hill welcomed local rivals Carterton to Hailey both teams were without a loss so far this season. Carterton were quickly into their stride and Tower were on the defence for the first ten minutes. Tower Hill rode the storm out and were soon creating openings at the other end but found Carterton's backline working well. Both teams had chances but it was goalless going into the break.
Tower Hill started the second half strongly and after five minutes Joey Aust was put through and his cool finish gave Tower Hill the lead 1-0.This goal appeared to rock Carterton and three minutes later Ashley Harding had a left foot shot defected onto his right foot and his strike found the back of the net. Carterton then dug deep and were unfortunate not to pull a goal back. The teams continued to attack and defend, giving both sets of supporters a great game of football to watch.
With the final whistle blown Tower Hill were delighted to keep their unbeaten start to the season intact. Well played to both teams!
Tower scorers: Joey Aust and Ashley Harding.

17.10.10 Kings Sutton Youth Royals 3 Carterton 3
report from WDYFL Web site:- It's been more than a season and a half since the Royals last featured in a drawn fixture. This fact looked like continuing until virtually the very last kick of this enthralling game. Carterton were the visitors to King's Sutton and they seemed surprised by the Royals early attacking onslaught. After several close calls and a superb effort from Thomas Young that rattled the Carterton bar the Royals forged ahead when Tyler Paternoster back heeled into the path of Lewis Butler who swept the ball home. Carterton did drag themselves level when Craig Foster attempted to cross and looked up to see his ball sail high into the top corner. The Royals were in no mood to let this disappointment upset their rhythm and quickly regained the lead when Jonty Russell-Rayment raced onto Ollie Whitrows' flighted free kick to drill past the onrushing keeper. Still Sutton pressed but could not find another goal before the break.
The second half saw the visitors come out with a much more determined attitude and they forced their way back into this game. Using their size and strength Carterton were now the dominant side and it was no surprise when Tom Smith levelled the scores. With the bit between their teeth Carterton were now looking the likeliest winners of this brilliant A League encounter and so it appeared to be as Ryan Lanksford hit home Carterton's third. Royals sacrificed the normally reliable Paternoster who made way for Tom Kinch on the left with Lewis Butler added to the front line. This gave a stronger look to the home sides attack and slowly but surely the tide began to turn again. Man of the match Ned Primrose was stretching the visitors back line with tremendous pacy runs and good linkup play with George and Lewis. Corner after corner came and went with the same results of near misses and dogged defending denying an equaliser. Carterton must have felt the points were in the bag as the game went into the last minute. One final push from the Royals was needed and what an attack it turned out to be. Ned cut infield and flicked the ball into Lewis' stride, he in turn fed George Coombes and with one touch to set up the strike and the second to smash home George had saved the best until last. A thrilling finale to a quality game well done both teams.
Royals scorers: Lewis Butler, Jonty Russell-Rayment and George Coombes. Carterton scorers: Craig Foster, Tom Smith and Ryan Lanksford.

03.10.10 report from WDYFL Web site Carterton 0 Eynsham Youth 0
On a wet and blustery day at Carterton the home team entertained top of the table Eynsham youth.
The first half was a very edgy affair with no team taking control and lots of mistakes being made in the tough conditions. The best chance in the half came Carterton's way with Matt Dodd making the Eynsham goalie pull off a very good save.
With the wind in their favour the home team took control in the second half. Chances were few and far between but Eynsham created a good chance only for Carterton to clear off the line. The home team did get the ball in the net when Matt Dodd swooped on a mistake at the back but it was called offside. The home team continued to make good chances with Craig Foster driving forward and Ben Moss and Leo Mcloughlin going close. Tom Smith also created two great chances, but the Eynsham goalie put in a very good performance. Eynsham also had a great chance to break the deadlock, but strong defending from Carterton kept them out, with Shaheer Alam the stand out Carterton defender. The game ended goalless, a tight tussle between two evenly matched teams.

12.09.10 report from WDYFL Web site:- Carterton 5 Bicester Town Colts 0
On a bright sunny day Carterton welcomed Bicester Town Colts for the first game of the season.
Bicester kicked off and shortly afterwards Carterton started applying pressure, Tom Smith playing down the left put a good ball through and from the resulting corner Matt Dodd had a great shot just go wide. At this stage it was all Carterton but when called on Shaheer Alam and Craig Foster were strong in defence for the home side. A long ball from Craig and Matt shot and scored 1-0. Bicester started coming into the game and Leo Mcloughlin had to make a last minute tackle following a 3 on 1 break by the away team. Carterton had a couple of chances with a good header from Matt following a cross from Ben Moss and a Tom shot. Another good run from Matt and a corner to Carterton, a great ball followed from Leo and Matt headed just wide. Another goal was coming and after great play by Tom down the left he crossed and Joe Maddalena slotted the ball home, 2-0 to Carterton. Further pressure came from the home side with shots from Rocket and Tom with Ben hitting the post. Following a corner and more good play from Tom it was half time.
Carterton started the second half stronger with chances from Matt and Ben. Matt then flicked on a cross field ball and Rocket headed home 3-0. After some good play from Joe the ball ran through to Matt who shot and scored, 4-0. Charlie McEnnis and Tom W were playing well in defence, Craig raiding down the right produced more chances from Matt, Rocket, Ben and Craig. After a shot from Rocket he scored from a Ben cross, his second and Carterton's fifth. A great win for the home side, but well played Bicester who never gave up.
Carterton scorers: Matt Dodd (2), Ryan Lanksford (2) and Joe Maddalena.

13.02.11 Tower Hill Stars 1 Carterton Colts 2
match report from W&DYFL Web site:-A particularly foul winter's day at the Burwell ground after a last minute switch from waterlogged West Witney. The boggy state of the Burwell pitch wasn't much better and strong gusty winds and driving rain at times made things challenging to say the least for the Players, and simply awful for the spectators.
Tower appeared to be easily into their stride but a shot by Carterton five minutes in to the game agonisingly rolled out of the hands of the Tower GK and was tapped in to the net by Carterton's Ben Brown. The rest of the half was evenly matched with both sides having chances and both making mistakes.
The second half and only six minutes had elapsed before defensive errors gifted Carterton Colts their second, again by Ben Brown. Tower were trying to find a way through and nearing the end of the match Chris Godfrey did just that and got one back for Tower. Regretfully it was too little too late and Carterton were the better side on the day.
Thanks to all Coaches, Managers and spectators for braving the atrocious conditions.

31.10.10 report from WDYFL Web site:- Yarnton Blues 2 Carterton Colts 2
The game started end to end and it was Yarnton's Reuben Tyndall who opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a good strike into the roof of the net from the edge of the box. Carterton equalized in the 20th minute when the ball was knocked back in from a corner. The score remained 1-1 at half time.
Yarnton went back into the lead in the second half with a Lloyd Belcher converted penalty. They didn't hold onto their lead for long as a few minutes later the visitors equalized when the ball was slid in from an acute angle at the back post. Both teams were hungry for the winning goal and both played attacking football in the last few minutes but despite some good effort both were denied the winner.
A match played in the right spirit. Thanks to Duncan Tyndall for refereeing the match and the linesmen.
Blues scorers: Reuben Tyndall and Lloyd Belcher. Colts scorers: Ben Brown and Sam Thompson.

15.05.11 Tower Hill 5 Carterton Colts 2
report from WDYFL Web site:- Tower Hill ended the season in style with a deserved victory against local rivals Carterton Colts. As always this was a very competitive game although lacking the edge of last week's encounter.
There were similarities though as Tower went into a two goal lead thanks to Matt Knapton's low free-kick and Redd Pratley's deceiving corner. Carterton pulled a goal back almost immediately with a shot from Jake Pritchard. Calum McGinness then restored Towers two goal cushion by firing home a few minutes before half-time.
The second half followed the pattern of the first with Tower forcing most of the chances but the visitors looking dangerous on the break. Jake Pritchard scored with another shot to make it 3-2 but Calum McGinness and Matt Knapton then sealed the game with a superbly taken goal each.
Man of the match awards went to Redd Pratley and James O'Sullivan. However this was an excellent team performance typical of the whole season in which all players have contributed, progressed and shown great maturity whilst enjoying their football. Well done Rob and the boys!
Tower Hill scorers: Matt Knapton (2), Calum McGinness (2) and Redd Pratley. Carterton scorer: Jake Pritchard (2).

08.05.112 Carterton Colts 2 Tower Hill 4
report from WDYFL Web site:- A fiercely competitive and entertaining encounter befitting of the battle for second place in the league. The game started at breakneck speed with Tower racing into a two goal lead inside eight minutes. The first a fine volley from Tom Oddy and the second a Matt Knapton free-kick special after he'd been brought down. Carterton forced their way back into the game to level the scores by half-time.
The second half continued at a fast pace with both sides creating opportunities but the defences holding firm. Tower started to turn the screw and Calum McGinness scored a fantastic solo goal with a trade-mark mazy run and shot. Tower continued to attack and the Carterton keeper made some great saves but with ten minutes remaining the game was sealed by a fantastic strike from Calum McGinness. A great performance from all the Tower squad to win second place - well done! Well deserved man of the match awards went to Calum McGinness and Ben Allen.
Tower Hill scorers: Calum McGinness (2), Tom Oddy and Matt Knapton.

16.04.11 Garden city 3 v 1s Carterton Colts.
A closely fought game that was separated by two soft goals conceded  by Carterton due to lack of communication between the Defence and  Keeper. Carterton missed a penalty after 10 minutes and this conceded the momentum to Garden city who scored in the15th minute from a well flicked corner. 5 minutes later the first of the misunderstandings enabled Garden city to pass into an unguarded net. Carterton fought back well and Thomas Harvey narrowly missed a header over the top towards the end of the first half after a well worked Carterton move.
Second half Carterton came out hard and had a strong 15 minutes of play before a shot that had rebounded of the cross bar from a Jack Cameron shot was crossed back to the corner of the box, Lewis Smith side  footed into the net to bring Carterton back into the match. Carterton continued to press hard, but then a long ball clearance down field by Garden City again caused confusion in the Carterton defence and the  keeper raced out to meet the ball only to tangle with his own player  and the ball rolled gently into the Carterton net. The game was effectively over and the last ten minutes was played out in a very
scrappy manner.
Match report by Mark Knibbs

27.03.11 Carterton Colts 6 v 2 Deddington Town Colts
Carterton Colts played Deddington Town Colts for the 2nd time in the space of 3 weeks, the previous encounter ending 1 all. Carterton hopefully were going to come out all guns blazing after a slightly disappointing draw last week, but from the opening whistle things definitely did not go to plan. Deddington broke down the left and found themselves clear on goal. Deddington fired in a fine shot which forced Dan Townsend to pull off arguably the save of the season to stop Carterton going one nil down in the opening minute. This certainly woke up Carterton and from here they started to attack.
Carterton was awarded a penalty for handball in the 3rd minute, which was coolly smashed home by Thomas Harvey. This was followed by a free kick in the 11th minute, which was taken by Jake Pritchard, who crossed a lovely ball into the box that was pounced on again by Thomas Harvey. Carterton were firing on all cylinders now and continued to press home the advantage. A good battling run down the left saw the ball crossed to Lewis Smith who made it 3 nil.
The 2nd half saw Deddington begin to fight back and created a good chance after 10 minutes to score a good goal. But the award of another penalty soon snuffed out the revival, this time taken by Jake Pritchard, who blasted the ball into the net giving the Deddington keeper no chance. Deddington did not give up the match and continued to try and get back into the game and again scored another fine goal to make the score 4 – 2 with 15 minutes to go. Thomas Harvey, who had been substituted, came on again hoping to complete his hat trick and it wasn’t long before he struck a lovely volley into the net. Four minutes later Thomas scored another to make it a 6 – 2 win for Carterton.
This was an excellent team performance, with every boy playing his part in this well deserved win. Well done.

20.03.11 Highfield Juniors 2 v 2 Carterton Colts
Carterton were away at Highfield Juniors and looking for a win to keep pace with the league leaders. Despite a good start and 2 goals from Thomas Harvey, Carterton let Highfield back into the match with a couple of defensive errors from which they scored to even the match.
Carterton could have sealed victory with good shots from Jake Pritchard, Lewis Smith and Thomas Harvey, but the Highfield keeper managed to keep the ball out of the net. Ryan Lewis made some good attacking runs down the right and to keep Highfield’s defence on their toes. Dan Townsend again had a good game as stand-in goalkeeper.
Well done to Carterton, who despite their opponents, tried to concentrate on playing football.

13.03.11 Carterton Colts 1 v 2 Banbury Town Youth
Carterton Colts were involved in a top of the table clash against Banbury Town Youth, the current leaders. Both teams were fired up for this match and from the kick off it looked like it was going to be an epic.
Banbury got the upper hand with a good strike which cleared Charlie Brown, the Carterton goalkeeper. Shortly after they doubled their lead, despite this Carterton continued to battle but failed to make many in-roads in to a good attacking position.
In the 2nd half Carterton put in a herculean effort to get back in to the game and managed to with a thunderous strike from over 30 yards out from defender Bradley Allen, who had run his blood to water and was injured only moments before. Carterton continued to press the attack and players, from both sides, challenged every ball as though their lives depended on it.
Despite the effort Carterton put in, they could not get the equaliser they wanted although they came close, with several shots, one rattling the crossbar.
The game ended with a Banbury win, but despite that Carterton should be very pleased with the effort and enthusiasm they put in throughout the game. This was undoubtedly one of the most committed performances they had put in this season. Well done.

06.03.11 Deddington Town Colts 1 v 1 Carterton colts
Carterton Colts were away at Deddington Town Colts and were looking to build on their last game, an excellent match against Banbury Town Youth, but what ensued was a somewhat scrappy affair which resulted in a 1 – 1 draw.
Thomas Harvey scoring late in the 1st half for the Colts, with Deddington quickly equalising from a free-kick.
Credit to Dan Townsend, who did a fine job as stand in goalkeeper.

report from W&DYFL Web site:- Deddington Town Colts 1 Carterton Colts 1
Deddington Town Colts and Carterton Colts played out a competitive 1-1 draw in a game where the advantage ebbed and flowed all game between the sides.
After a slow start Carterton began to get the upper hand which resulted in a goal from Tom Harvey after a rare mix-up in the Deddington defence. Deddington came right back however and Josh Gibbins converted a free kick at the Carterton back post a few minutes later.
In the second half Deddington had the best of the game in the first period and then Carterton came back towards the end after Deddington's influential mid-fielder James Rawlinson left the field injured, after he was targeted with a few strong tackles.
In the end, both sides had chances to snatch the win, but a draw was probably a fair result. Credit to Dan Townsend, who did a fine job as stand in goalkeeper for Carterton.
Deddington scorer: Josh Gibbins. Carterton scorer: Tom Harvey.

20.02.11 Banbury 2 v 2 Carterton Colts

Carterton were away at Banbury for a top of the table clash. The pre match preparations were not ideal for Carterton as Dan Townsend had to stand in as goal keeper for the 1st half as regular keeper Charlie Brown was unfortunately delayed.
Banbury came out all guns blazing and scored two quick goals. Carterton found themselves under an early barrage and 3 good saves from Dan kept Carterton in the match. Carterton managed to weather the storm and slowly clawed the way back into the game. Just before half time Carterton won a corner and from the cross Bradley Allen struck the ball cleanly into the back of the net. Carterton were now well and truly back in the game. The half ended 2- 1 to Banbury.
Carterton’s coach’s fired up the team in the half time and when they came back on to the pitch they seemed a different team. Straight away they started bossing the match and put Banbury on the back foot. All the team played with extra commitment and enthusiasm, they were chasing every ball and making every tackle. Jake Pritchard had 2 excellent shots, one of which struck the crossbar and was unfortunate not to go in. Carterton moved the ball round well and created a good chance starting on the left wing and spreading play out to the right, Lewis Smith found himself clear on goal, sadly this was flagged (very dubiously) offside by the Banbury linesman. It was a shame for such a move to be stopped by such a poor decision, but this seemed to spur Carterton on even more. Carterton made a substitution and brought on Joe Kaluza and with only a few minutes on the pitch scored the goal which evened up the match, with about 15 minutes to go. This was going to be a tense affair. Carterton kept pressing forward and trying to get the win, but to no avail. The match ended 2 all and was a fair result on an excellent match.
All the Carterton players played some brilliant football today and should be very proud of their performance today. Well done!! Also well done to the Carterton coach’s who managed to inspire the team despite a poor start.

13.02.11 Carterton Colts 1 v 0 Garden City

Carterton Colts hosted Garden City at Kilkenny Lane knowing that they would be in for a hotly contested match, and that was to be the case. Both teams got straight into the match and were keen to gain the upper hand over their opponents. After 30 minutes of deadlock, Carterton managed to score the only goal of the game. Ryan Lewis playing in a beautiful cross, which the Garden City keeper seemed to have covered, sadly for him, as he had had an outstanding game so far, fumbled the ball and Jack Davies quickly pounced on the opportunity and scored.
In the 2nd half both sides had chances, but neither could score. Carterton held on to their slender lead and managed to grind out a hard fought win despite some spirited effort from Garden City.
Well done to both teams for an entertaining match.

06.02.11 Enstone 2 v 7 Carterton Colts
Carterton Colts were away at Enstone in very blustery conditions, which made conditions difficult for free flowing football, however Carterton started very brightly with 2 goals within the opening couple of minutes.
Despite some hard work from Enstone, Carterton had the run of the play in the 1st half with 6 unanswered goals; Mahir Allam was rewarded for his hard work with a hat trick. Jake Pritchard, Lewis Smith and Tom Harvey also scoring in the 1st half.
The 2nd half was a much more even contest with 2 goals from a battling Enstone and another well taken goal from Jake Pritchard for Carterton.
Despite a good recovery in the 2nd half from Enstone, Carterton won the game quite comfortably 7 – 2.
Well done boys.

16.01.11 Carterton Colts 12 v 1 Bloxham

Carterton kicked off and started in great style and within the 1st minute Josh Knibbs opened the score sheet with a well-taken goal. Although Bloxam was caught cold they soon got themselves back in the game and after about 20 mins evened the score. Carterton took the lead just before half time through goals from Jack Davies and Dan Townsend to make the score 3 –1.
Despite some good effort from Bloxam they could not contain Carterton, who went on to score a further 9 goals in the half. On the score sheet were Lewis Smith (2), Mahir Allam (2), Tom Harvey (2), Jake Pritchard, Jack Cameron, Ryan Lewis.
Although lots of goals were scored this was a very good all round performance from the whole team, Bradley Allen, Fin Saunders, Ryan Lewis and Kieran Dingle were a solid defensive unit, good effort from Joe Kaluza and despite the goal keeper, Charlie Brown having very little to do, he provided some good encouragement and support for the team.
Well done Carterton for a good display and also credit to Bloxham for never giving up.

09.11.10 Carterton Colts 7 v 5 Banbury United Youth
Carterton Colts started the New Year with a win against Banbury United Youth. Despite taking an early 4 – 0 lead through an excellent hat trick from Lewis Smith and a goal from Dan Townsend it was not going to be plain sailing for Carterton.
Banbury scored their 1st goal from a superbly taken free kick, which despite the best efforts of Charlie Brown, the Carterton goalkeeper could not keep the ball out. Banbury then went on to score again to make it 4 – 2.
Carterton replied quickly with another impressive goal from Lewis Smith and Joe Kaluza kept his composure to slot the ball home to make it 6 – 2. At this point it seemed the match was over, but Banbury had other ideas and with about 15 minutes to go to full time produced 3 unanswered goals to make the score 6 – 5, with their spirits high they kept attacking Carterton and forced Charlie Brown into making a couple of excellent saves to stop Banbury equalising.
The last action went to Jack Cameron who fired in along range effort to settle the Carterton nerves, who went on to win the match 7 – 5.
Well done to both teams who battled hard and produced a good game of football, that was entertaining to watch, especially well done to Banbury despite being 4 goals down came back to set up a thrilling end to the match.

21.11.10 Carterton 8 v 1 Enstone

Carterton were at home against Enstone today and looking to avenge last week’s cup defeat. Carterton started the game with 5 changes to the usual starting line up, and were strong from the kick off, managing to contain Enstone’s attack well. Both teams were playing well and it was Enstone who made the 1st break, forcing the Carterton goalkeeper to make a diving save, which sadly came loose of his grasp and Enstone put the ball in the back of the net.
Carterton recovered quickly from this set back and went on the attack. Jack Davies pulled of an excellent shot, forcing the Enstone keeper to parry the ball. This fell back to Jack who crossed to Dan Townsend who headed the ball home. Carterton’s goalkeeper Charlie Brown pulled off some excellent saves to stop Enstone going in at half time in the lead. The half finished 1 - 1.
At the start of the second half the Colts manager made 5 substitutions to his team and from kick off Carterton came on the attack which soon resulted in a goal from Thomas Harvey down the left. This seemed to open the floodgates with Enstone having no answer to Carterton’s attack and the goals soon started to flow. On the score sheet was Dan Townsend who scored a very good hat trick, Jake Pritchard, Mahir Allam, Jack Davies and Lewis Smith all adding to the goal tally. The final score being 8 – 1 to the Colts. This was a good win for Carterton with some good passing and battling against an opponent that played well.
Despite the second half being slightly one-sided Enstone never gave up and that is to their credit. Well done.

17.10.10 Banbury United Youth 1 Carterton Colts 5
report from WDYFL Web site:- This was the first time these two teams had met and Carterton started brightly however a quick Banbury break left them trailing 1-0 after only a few minutes. The game continued in much the same vein with Carterton having the majority of the possession but Banbury always looking dangerous on the break. Carterton persevered and were rewarded with a equaliser when Jake Pritchard's long range shot proved too hot for the keeper to handle . Charlie Brown then pulled off an excellent save to keep the scores level as the sides went in for half time at 1-1.
In the second half Carterton came out the brighter and it wasn't long before Jack Davies struck home to make the score 2-1 to the visitors . Carterton continued to dominate and when Daniel Townsend slipped the ball home to make it 3-1 the game was all but over . Carterton now looked the stronger side and started to dominate with Banbury relying solely on breakaways as they got pinned back in their own half . The chances were now coming thick and fast with two more excellent strikes Jake Pritchard got up his hat-trick and the game ended 5-1 to Carterton
Banbury scorers: Mo Samassa. Carterton scorers: Jake Pritchard (3), Jack Davies and Daniel Townsend.

Carterton colts secured a second round place in the County cup with a comfortable win over Charlbury. Carterton played some good passing football throughout the match and this was reflected in the 19 – nil score line.
Four Carterton players, Tom Harvey, Mahir Allam, Jake Pritchard and Dan Townsend scored hat tricks. Other scorers were Ryan Lewis, Lewis Smith, Josh Knibbs, Ben Allen and Tom Allen, although everyone on the team played their part in the win today.

03.10.10 KO Cup 1st rd Carterton Colts 2 – 3 Deddington
Carterton Colts had a home fixture in the 1st round of the cup, playing a 10 man Deddington. As the match got underway both sides seemed a little nervy with neither team creating many chances. The 1st good chance fell to Josh Knibbs, playing in midfield, found himself one-on-one against the goalkeeper but sadly his shot went just over the bar. This however gave Carterton the confidence to attack and Carterton surged forward which ultimately resulted in an absolute cracker of a goal from Ryan Lewis, who struck the ball from outside of the box and the ball looped over the goalkeepers head and gave Carterton the lead.
Five minutes later a goal mouth scramble resulted in Tom Harvey just managing to push the ball over the line to make it 2 – 0 to Carterton.
As the second half kicked off Deddington came back strong and pressured Carterton trying to get back in the match and their perseverance paid off as they forced the Carterton goalkeeper into a mistake which resulted in Deddington’s 1st goal.
Deddington now staged a very good fight back and 11 minutes later scored their second goal from an uncontested header from a corner. The 10-man team had staged a good fight back to even the match, but they now sensed a victory and continued to press. Reward soon came after a good run down their right wing to produce their 3rd and final goal.
Carterton’s goalkeeper Charlie Brown pulled off a great save in the dying minutes of the match when a penalty was awarded. Charlie made himself big in the nets and dived to his right to push the ball away, well done.

26.09.10 Carterton Colts 2 v 3 Middleton Cheney
On what appeared to be the 1st day of winter – especially to the eager spectators, Carterton took to the field at Middleton Cheney, buoyed by their excellent win last week and full of confidence on turning over Middleton Cheney, a team they have not had much success against in the past.
With both teams ready the Referee blew for kick off, sadly Carterton looked a little laboured on the field (obviously too many late nights – sorry Tim) and soon conceded a goal to Middleton who were playing well. Things did not get much better and 10 minutes later Middleton scored a very opportune goal, to go into the half 2 – nil up.
After a much needed team talk, Carterton started the second half with a bit more creativity and seemed to be getting back into the game. The manager used his available substitutions wisely and it was these new players who created the opening goal for Carterton. After 12 minutes gone Tom Allen created a good chance down the left hand side and crossed to Jake Pritchard to score a good left-footed goal. The game now evened up with both sides creating chances. Middleton’s goalkeeper keeping their side in the game with some good saves as Carterton started to attack, looking for the draw or even the win. In what seemed like the last minute of the match Tom Allen again found himself in space down the left and instantly headed for goal and put away the ball neatly for what would surely be the equaliser.
Sadly this was not to be, Middleton were awarded a free kick deep into injury time in Carterton’s half of the pitch. The free kick was a well taken effort and despite the attempt of Carterton’s goalkeeper landed in the back of the net. At the final whistle the score was 3-2 to Middleton Cheney. Bad luck Carterton!
