v 1 Bampton Town
match report by Iain
Buchanan…..A great game of football at Monahan
way saw a good Bampton side inflict only the second loss of the season on
Carterton, a team needing a victory to keep any chance of winning the league
alive. Some great goalkeeping by Bampton prevented shots from Dan Godwin and
James Buchanan scoring in the first half. At the other end Billy King pulled
off a fine save when the Bampton striker broke free in the second half. A
hand ball outside the Carterton area presented Bampton with a shooting
opportunity with seven minutes to go. Up stepped Ben Moss to hit an
unstoppable free kick into the top corner. Carterton battled hard to get
back onto the game but to no avail. Well done to Bampton who have produced
two great performances against Carterton this season<hr>. |

KO Cup
…..CFC U 9 0 v 5 Banbury
Match
report by Iain Buchanan….. Once again the
pitches at Carterton beat the weather. As a result Banbury had to travel
for their reversed home game in the Knockout Cup. Knowing that Banbury were unbeaten this
season, Carterton left nothing to chance and everyone of the ten players
involved played to their best abilities. James Buchanan gave Banbury notice
of the teams intent, when with less than a minute on the clock he struck the
far post with a good shot from just inside the box. Unfortunately Matt Dodd
following in just missed the rebounding ball. Banbury pressed forward and
found themselves with a throw in level with the Carterton box. A long throw
saw the ball finish up in the back of the net. Fortunately for the stunned
Carterton crowd, no one had touched the ball and the goal didn’t stand.
Carterton scored their first goal after 7 minutes when James Buchanan cut in
from the right to score from the edge of the box. The game was still very
open with some good Banbury attacks but shortly before half time Dan Godwin
picked up the ball just inside the Banbury half. He drove forward and
unleashed a shot from 20 yards to make the score more comfortable for the
away team.
The second half saw Carterton once more
pressing forward with some good work from Leo McLaughlin. James Buchanan
scored twice for his hatrick within five minutes of the restart to put the
game beyond reach. Joint MOTMs James Buchanan and Leo McLaughlin then made
way for Shaheer Alam and Joseph Maddalena. Banbury, to their great credit
continued to make a game of it pressing forward at every opportunity. They
had a one on one against in form Billy King in the Carterton goal and
unfortunately put the ball wide of the goal. Aaron Cook, now playing centre
midfield claimed the fifth when his shot was deflected past the Banbury
keeper. Tom Puddle almost made it six but he put his volley just wide of
the post. All credit to Banbury and best wishes as they hope to clinch the
league title soon. Also a massive vote of thanks to Dean Northam, the
referee, who had an outstanding game and really impressed the boys and
coaches. |

Ducklington 1 v 1 CFC U 9
Match report
from the W&DYFL Web site…..Ducklington
and Carterton met for the second time this season on a very wet and cold
morning. Both teams started well with Ducklington creating some good chances
during the first half. Ashley Harding was unlucky hitting the post and Jack
Booth shot wide. Carterton made their own chances and in the closing minutes
of the first half a 50/50 challenge on Neil Atkinson in goal for Ducklington
and a small pile up in the mud allowed the ball to spring out to the right
of the box and a lovely finish and some quick thinking from James Buchanan
made it one nil Carterton.
The second half started well for Ducklington who created some good chances,
Carterton counter attacked well but Jamie Francis, Neil Atkinson (in goal)
and Kieran Fallon were in control at the back. With Finn O'Hickey, Ashley
Harding and Jack Booth winning good ball in the middle. Ducklington kept
pressing and playing some good football and eventually Elliott Heritage
picked up a nice pass and his turn and strike made it one all. Ducklington
then pressed forward in the last 10 minutes and had some great chances and
their hard work looked to have paid off when Ashley Harding struck a 25 yard
shot heading for the top of the net but Billy King made an excellent save
tipping it over the bar. Good defending from Carterton and a couple of
missed shots kept the game all square.
Despite the conditions all the players showed total commitment and both
managers should be proud of the lads efforts. |

round…..WITNEY VIKINGS 0 v 6 CFC U9
Match report by Iain
Buchanan…..The first round of the cup saw Carterton travel away to Witney
Vikings. Carterton settled quickly and were ahead inside the first minute.
Tom Puddle crossed to James Buchanan who controlled the ball and turned to
fire past the keeper from just inside the box. Within five minute the
second goal was set up by James Buchanan. He harried the Witney defence on
the edge of their own box, stole the ball and crossed for Matt Dodd to
sprint in from the left and slide the ball into an empty net. Carterton
came close to their third with Aaron Cook heading just over from an in
swinging corner from Daniel Godwin. Witney pressed forward themselves but
the in form Billy King was solid in goal. The second half started
well with MOTM Matt Dodd turning well inside the box. He laid the ball
back for Daniel Godwin to hit an unstoppable shot from the edge of the
box. Good wing play by Tom Puddle made the fourth for Carterton. His
cross was hit well by James Buchanan; the keeper could only parry the ball
to the feet of Leo Mcloughlin who calmly slotted the ball home. Daniel
Godwin received a blow on the nose causing it to bleed and he made way for
Craig Foster to play as last man. Craig was soon involved in creating the
fifth. He forged forward from his own box and played a great pass into the
stride of Tom Puddle. His excellent cross was hit first time by Leo
McLoughlin. His shot came back off the post but Matt Dodd was on hand to
stroke the ball home from close range. The final goal was a great volley
from outside the box. James Buchanan teed himself up and hit the ball
sweetly into the top of the net. A great team performance by Carterton but
full marks to Witney Vikings for never giving up |

CFC U 9 2 v 1 Bloxham
Match report by Iain Buchanan….. A sunny morning at Kilkenny
lane saw both teams quickly out of the blocks. After 5 minutes James
Buchanan broke into the box, George Capel saved his initial shot, but James
was quickly onto the loose ball and slid it into an empty net. Bloxham
forced a good save out of the in form Billy King, diving at the striker’s
feet. Carterton were soon looking for a second; James Buchanan again coming
close with a shot cleared off the line. Matt Dodd did manage to increase
the lead; he found himself in space on the edge of the box and drilled a
shot high into the net. Tom Puddle almost increased the lead further. He
took the ball around a defender but George Capel pushed his high shot onto
the bar; a good save
The Bloxham half time team talk must have been extremely good.
Straight from the kick off Bloxham were first to every ball and were soon
rewarded with a well-worked goal. Some good interplay from inside their own
half led to a great strike from Declan Desousa. Bloxham continued to play
well and fortunately Carterton woke up and started to string some passes
together. Aaron Cook and Leo McLoughlin, in defence, continued to hold firm
and Carterton eventually ran out 2-1 winners of a well-fought match. |

Bampton
Town 0 v 2 CFC U 9
Match report by Iain
Buchanan…..Considering the league positions this looked to be an easy game
for Carterton. Unfortunately Bampton hadn’t read the script. Bampton got
off to much the better start and held territorial advantage for most of the
first half with Billy King in the Carterton goal called into regular action.
Aaron Cook’s pace at the back was a saviour for Carterton against a very
quick Bampton team. On one of Carterton’s good forays into the Bampton half
a quick pass found James Buchanan on the right edge of the box. He took one
touch, turning to strike the ball beyond the Bampton keeper into the top
right hand corner of the net. Carterton were given a stern warning at half
time and came out for the second half playing better football. From a throw
in on the left side the ball was struck sweetly by man of the match Daniel
Godwin. From outside the area the ball was just too high for the Bampton
keeper and Carterton found themselves with a two goal cushion. Matt Dodd and
Leo McLoughlin made way for Craig Foster and Shaheer Alam as Carterton
looked to hold onto their lead. Bampton must count themselves unlucky not
to have scored and must surely start winning matches soon considering their
performance. Carterton were grateful to have won a game which they failed
to dominate, but as they say, football’s a funny old game. |

LAUNTON BOYS 0 v 4 CFC U 9
Match
report by Iain Buchanan…..Carterton’s first away match saw them start as
they finished against Grendon the week before. Launton were fielding a
slightly weaker side with the normally influential Zarius Edwards-Giraud out
through illness. Carterton were quick out of the blocks and had the early
pressure. Carterton won a throw on the right of midfield; Craig Foster was
told to “get in the game” by the coach, which he promptly did, latching on
the loose ball and racing from the half way line and confidently slotting
the ball past the advancing keeper. Carterton settled and soon James
Buchanan took the ball on the edge of the box. He beat two defenders and
slammed the ball home. The third came before half time when an in swinging
cross from the in form Daniel Godwin was deflected into the net by a Launton
defender. The second half saw more attacking football from Launton but Aaron Cook and MOTM
Leo McLoughlin held firm with some timely assistance from Tom Puddle
covering from midfield. Billy King was solid in the Carterton goal with his
quick thinking releasing the attack with fast long kicks. As the game ran
into the last five minutes a steady attack presented Tom Puddle with a shot
on goal. Unfortunately for him the Launton keeper parried the ball, but only
to the feet of James Buchanan who was on hand to stroke home the fourth. |

Match
report from W&DYL Web site…..Carterton started the better of the two sides
and put some good early pressure on the Ducklington defence. Their hard work
was rewarded when they broke through for their first goal early on in the
game, scored by James Buchanan. Ducklington made a few decent moves after
that but found it difficult to get through Carterton's defence. Further
possession from Carterton was rewarded with their second goal just before
half time which was well taken by Aaron Cook.
Some changes for Ducklington at half time seemed bring them back into the
game. They began to pass the ball better creating chances at the Carterton
end, but Carterton's defence and keeper kept the Ducklington attempts out,
to keep the score 2 0 Carterton at full time.
A good game of football played in a good spirit on a very warm morning. |

CFC U 9 0 v 2 Tower Hill
Match
report by Iain Buchanan…..The first league meeting for the two teams was not
the ideal choice for either manager as the opener to the season. However,
both teams started out well in what was a real end to end affair. Overall
Carterton just edged the first half, seeing two opportunities turned onto
the post with some good goalkeeping from an in-form Tower Hill keeper.
The second half continued with good play from both sides and
with 5 minutes to go the match looked to be heading for a stalemate. With
Carterton pushing forward, they were punished by a quick break from Tower
Hill. Caught with only one player back Carterton were punished by a clinical
finish, much to the delight of the large away contingent. Carterton tried
straight from the kick off to find an equalizer but were again punished for
pushing too many players forward, with Tower Hill once again countering at
speed to put the game beyond doubt. A great game of football from both teams
in what promises to be an exciting league. Well done Tower Hill |

Colts 1 v 2 Yarnton Blues
Match
report by Andy Peatman….. The first game of the New Year saw CFC Colts take
on Yarnton Blues in what was to prove a very entertaining game. The first
half kicked off at 12pm and both teams seemed equally matched. The Colts
midfield of Jai Smith, Charlie Jarrusso and Alex Evans (in his final game
for the Colts) were working hard and causing Yarnton problems. Yarntons’
No10 Hayden Hathaway and No 3 Lloyd Belcher both put in an outstanding
performance with some perfectly timed tackles. The game ebbed and flowed
with both teams creating chances and both keepers called in to action. On
the 12 minute mark the deadlock was broken when Charlie Jarrusso fired in a
stunning low ball for his first goal of the season. H/T 1-0 Colts.
The second half continued in the same spirit as the first with both teams eager
to score. Yarnton just had the edge over the Colts and started to make some
good driving attacks at goal. Goals from Lloyd Belcher and Hayden Hathaway,
who really were impressive, gave Yarnton a deserved and first win of the
season. F/T 1-2 Yarnton.
Colts MOTM went to Brandon Peatman for another solid performance. Well done to
both teams for a very good game of football. |

Colts 1 v 1v Banbury Town Youth
Match
report by Andy Peatman…..Today saw
CFC Colts take on the league leaders Banbury Town Youth. The Colts Knew this
was going to be a hard game as BTY are unbeaten this season. The game kicked
off at 10.30 with the rain falling steadily. Both teams started well with
some fluid passing. BTY put some early pressure on the Colts, a shot saved
by the inform Brandon Peatman, was taken out of his hands and in the goal
mouth scramble BTY were unlucky not to have taken an early lead. Jordan
Williams was on hand to save the Colts with an inspired goal line clearance.
It wasn’t long before Colts returned the pressure, some excellent passing by
the Colts mid field (Jordan Clack, Charlie McEnnis and Jordan Williams) made
sure that the BTY had some work to do. The game was end to end stuff and the
back 3 of David Lowe, Rhys Long and Liam Barnes kept there shape well and
made some fine tackles. It was only a matter of time before the deadlock was
broken, and just before half time BTY took the lead with a well worked
corner and a cracking shot from outside of the area. H/T 0-1
The Colts made a couple of changes at half time with Alex Evans and Jai Smith replacing Jordan C and
Rhys. The Colts were playing some really neat football and were rewarded for
their hard work when the ball fell to Charlie McEnnis, who struck home a low
driving shot into the right hand side of the goal. BTY continued to look for
the winner but some stalwart defending by Liam and Jai and again some good
stops by the Colts keeper ensured the score remained level. Colts had a
great chance win the game with 2 minutes to go when a through ball to Alex
left him with only the BTY keeper to beat. The ball was struck sweetly at
pace but the keeper expertly held on to it. The game finished 1-1.
Liam Barnes received MOTM
for Colts for his excellent defending and commitment.
Extremely well done to both
teams who put on a very entertaining game of football despite the weather.

Colts 2 v 0 Marsh Gibbon
Match
report by Andy Peatman…..
Carterton Colts met Marsh Gibbon in what was
to be their first league win of the season. The first half kicked off at
10.30 and right from the start it was clear that it was going to be a hard
fought game. From the K/O Marsh Gibbon made their first attack of the game,
the defensive trio of Jai Smith, David Lowe and Charlie Jarrusso were
comfortable at the back and were able to stop it. Colts then broke back and
some fluid passing from Charlie McEnnis, Connor Harrison and Jordan Clack
set up Colts first attack of the game. Marsh Gibbons’ No 4 Harry Tutt and No
6 Cameron Wakeron defended well and were able to thwart the Colts. The first
half became a battle in the midfield area with both teams having periods of
possession and it was hard for either team to create any chances with both
defences playing so well. Marsh Gibbon had a couple of chances to open the
scoring with some well taken corners but Brandon Peatman in goal for the
Colts kept his defence tight. H/T 0 -0
The second half started in the same vain as the first with both teams eager to break the deadlock. On
the 20 minute mark Colts finally managed to do just that. A move down the
right saw Charlie McEnnis chip a beautiful shot over the Marsh Gibbon keeper
which was then handballed off the line. Marsh Gibbons keeper Tom Maskell was
unlucky not to save the resultant penalty, having got a hand to the ball;
the power in the shot carried it into the back of the net. Marsh Gibbon came
out looking for the equaliser and No7 Luke Fox was making it difficult for
the Colts back 3. With 5 minutes to go the Colts made the game safe when
Connor Harrison (MOTM) got himself into a wide right position and put in a
great cross to Jordan Clack, who slotted in the ball at the near post. The
game ended 2 – 0 to the Colts.
Well done to both teams for a very entertaining game of football. |

Bampton 2 v 1 CFC U 9 Colts
Match
report by Andy Peatman….An early KO at Bampton saw a first time meeting
between these two teams which proved to be a very exciting game. The Colts
came into this game as the under dogs but soon proved that they were up for
the challenge. After last weeks performance Liam Barnes was again moved into
an outfield position to take on the defensive duties along side David Lowe
and Rhys Long. Both teams were playing some very good football, with lots of
fluid passing and some great tackling. Bampton put Colts under some early
pressure but the defence was solid at the back. Colts midfield of Alex
Evans, Jordan Williams and Jordan Clack looked to be having the run of play
with some probing attacks and were rewarded for there efforts on the 8
minute mark. A quick thinking pass by David allowed Colts to break with
Jordan Clack running down the left wing, a look up and a neatly threaded
ball to Alex saw him hit a low shot under the diving Bampton Keeper into the
bottom left of the goal. The game was still a close run thing until Bampton
made a break down the right, Thomas Jones was allowed time to make a cross
come shot that dipped just over the head of the Colts keeper. H/T 1 – 1.
The second half started at the same tempo as the first and Colts came close to
scoring a second with an effort from Jordan Clack. It was clear that Bampton
wanted something from the game and set off on another attack down the right
which the Colts defence managed to put out for a corner. Bampton took a good
corner which Jordan Williams unwittingly headed towards his own goal, a last
ditch attempt by Rhys Long to clear the ball off the line saw it
unfortunately go the wrong side of the crossbar to make it 2 – 1 to Bampton.
The rest of the half saw Bampton confine Colts to there own half with the
defence under intense pressure. An outstanding performance by Brandon
Peatman (MOTM) in goal making one brilliant save after another kept Colts in
the game. In the last minute Bampton had a chance to score again when Ben
Moss twisted and turned in the box before releasing a cracking shot which
crashed against the crossbar. So the game finished with the score a
respectable 2 – 1 at full time. Well done to both teams who really did there
Managers and supporters proud. Good luck to Bampton in there cup campaign |

Kingston 2
v 1 CFC Colts
Match report
from W&DYL Web site…..The match
began well for both teams and was a closely fought contest between two
equally matched teams, but the breakthrough goal came in the 21st minute
with a quick build up from Kingston with Charlie Rowland with some brilliant
work down the left wing and firing a shot high into the top left corner of
the net. The Carterton defensive team of David Lowe, Leighvi Smith and
Mathew Jobling were working extremely hard with some outstanding defending
from Mathew Jobling who showed some nice touches and tough tackles, The
first half came to close but the game was still very well poised.
The Second half started with Carterton applying all the pressure and driving
forward in search for the equalizer with both Connor Harrison and Charlie
McInnes going close. Carterton then made a substitution with Alex Evans
coming on for Connor Harrison but before Carterton had time to settle in,
Kingston hit them with a quick break from Alex Marks who fired a low shot
into the bottom left corner which the Colts keeper Brandon Peatman almost
turned away but was powerless to stop it. But at 2-0 to Kingston, the
Carterton colts team were not to be denied the goal they so craved for all
the efforts they had displayed during the game and the goal finally came
with 10 minutes of the game still remaining with some nice work down the
center from Jordon Clack who went on a Amazing run before passing the ball
to Charlie McInnes on the right wing who looked up and saw Alex Evans making
a run down the left and finding him with a neat long ranged pass which Alex
Evans took in his stride for him to release a thunderbolt of a shot towards
the top right corner of the Kingston goal only to see the keeper make a
brilliant save but Alex followed up the ball and tapped the rebound into an
unguarded net making the score 2-1 but Carterton could not find a second
goal and the game finished 2-1 in favour of Kingston Colts. Carterton were
so unlucky not to come away with a draw for which they surely deserved.

Charlbury
Town Youth 0 v 0 CFC U 9 Colts
Match report from W&DYL
Web site…..Another good day for a
game of football saw Charlbury take on Carterton Colts. The teams only
played against each other the week before so they both new what sort of game
was ahead.
Carterton started the stronger with some early pressure, the front two of
Connor Harrison and Carterton's man of the match Charlie McEnnis were
working well together but Charlbury held firm with Owen Bodman Charlbury's
man of the match putting in some good winning tackles in defence. Charlbury
had to make a substitution half way through the first half which unbalanced
them for a while but both teams put on a great game of football for everyone
to watch. Josh Rhodes came close with some good running for Charlbury but it
wasn't to be. The final score was a fair result well done both teams.

CFC U 9 Colts 1 v 3 Charlbury Town
Match
report by Andy Peatman…..An early
start at Monahan Way saw CFC Colts take on Charlbury Town Youth. After a
narrow defeat last week the Colts were looking to take something from this
game. The game kicked off at 9.30 and looked to be evenly matched, but some
good movement by CTY had the Colts defence under some early pressure.
Matthew Jobling, Leighvi Smith and Jordan Clack were defending well and were
able to thwart most of what Charlbury threw at them. At the other end the
Colts midfield (Alex Evans, Charlie McEnnis and Charlie Jarrusso) were
passing well and could have scored but for the excellent Charlie Quarterman
in goal for Charlbury. At 12 minutes the game looked to be going to 0-0 at
half time when Charlbury, through some slick passing, fired in the opener
passed the diving Liam Barnes. The Colts were still reeling from the first
goal when Charlbury fired in a 2nd a minute later. The Colts
defence lost their shape and right on the stroke of half time Charlbury
slotted home a 3rd goal to almost certainly seal the 3 points.
The second half was a different game, the Colts, to their credit, looked like they wanted to
salvage something. The first Colts attack came from a long throw from Alex
to Connor Harrison (MOTM) at the far post, which saw his sweetly struck
volley go just wide of the post. Charlbury came back and some good saves by
Liam kept the Colts in with a chance. Colts goal finally came when a Connor
made a strong run and a precision pass to Alex who was able to strike the
ball home. The Colts cold have scored at least 3 more but the Charlbury
keeper was unstoppable and made some really brave saves. Full time 1-3.
Congratulations to the Charlbury goal scorers Nicholas Hoyle and Ross Hedigan and also well done to
Owen Bodman who was very strong at the back. An entertaining game all
round. |

CFC U 9 Colts 1 v 2 Banbury United
Match
report by Andy Peatman…..A first
league meeting for these two teams, which was to prove an entertaining game
from start to finish. United won the toss and took the kick off and straight
away made a good attacking run down the centre, some good defending by David
Lowe stopped United in there tracks and set the Colts off on a their first
attack of the morning. The United defence was equal to the challenge, and so
the game went on with both teams sharing periods of possession. 6 minutes in
saw United just take the edge over the Colts. A shot from what seemed an
impossible angle from the right wing had the Colts keeper, Managers and
spectators stunned as it flew into the top left corner. 0-1. Colts pushed on
from that and were looking to even things up; some quick passing by Jordan
Clack, Charlie McEnnis, Connor Harrison and Rhys Long had United on the back
foot, unfortunately this left us open at the back and United capitalised. A
break down the right wing again saw a shot from an impossible angle slip
under the Colts Cross bar. 0-2. A substitution was made on the
11 min mark, which saw Alex Evans come on for an injured Jordan. A quick
thinking pass by Connor to Alex saw him pass a defender to strike home a
lovely shot under the diving United keeper. 1-2.
The second half turned into a stalemate and although there were plenty of chances at both ends neither
team was able to capitalize. United were very unlucky not to increase their
lead when Max Gilkes floated a precision cross to Dan Greasby, who took a
magnificent first time volley, only to see it go 6 inches above the cross
bar. (Would have been goal of the season!). Some excellent goal keeping by
Brandon Peatman and timely tackles by David (Colts MOTM) ensured that the
game remained 2-1 to United.
Well done to United two scorers Max and Dan and well done to both teams for a hard fought game. |

Colts 2 v 2v Wychwood
Match report by Andy
Peatman…..The first game of the
season saw Carterton Colts at home to Wychwood. Liam Barnes made his debut
as Carterton's’ keeper allowing Brandon Peatman to move into a midfield
position. The first half kicked off at 11.20 and right from the whistle both
teams were eager to make their mark. The Colts were playing well and the
defensive partnership of David Lowe and Thomas Joynes ensured that the
Wychwood attacks were broken down. Brandon, Connor Harrison, Charlie McEnnis
and Matthew Jobling in midfield were equally up to the challenge, showing
great strength and some impressive tackling. Some great passing and link up
play saw Connor running at goal, only to be thwarted by a very impressive No
15 George Parker. Wychwoods’ Scott Joy and Ellie Larkin were looking
dangerous and some good passing runs caused the Colts some heart stopping
moments. Some fine saves from Liam kept the Colts in it. Just before half
time the deadlock was broken when Brandon played a great through ball to
Jordan Williams who took a magnificent first time cross to Charlie who
thumped the ball home. 1 – 0 Colts.
The second half saw Colts put under pressure by a determined Wychwood side and it’s fair to say they
had much of the possession. Again the ever impressive Scott and Ellie, along
with James Smith, Jack Souch and Thomas Wren were now causing the Colts
defence some major problems. 5 minutes into the second half Wychwood won a
corner, No8 William Wren delivered a magical corner that curled straight
into the Colts net 1 – 1.
The second goal came from a Wychwood counter attack that Liam was unable to stop 2 – 1.
Wychwood could have made it 3 or 4 as they were not only denied by the post twice but also by an
excellent clearance off the near post by Thomas. The pressure was still on
but the Colts never gave up and battled hard and some great defensive
tackles from Rhys Long and Jai Smith allowed the Colts to break. 1 minute
from time Charlie Jarrusso made a twisting run up the left wing before
laying off a pass to Charlie McEnnis who crossed into the box, unfortunately
the Wychwood keeper couldn’t hold the ball and Jordan Williams (MOTM) struck
the ball sweetly into the net for a well deserved equalizer. Final score 2
-2. Well done to both teams for
a thoroughly entertaining game from start to finish

U10s ‘C’ League Match: Eynsham Youth 0 V 2
Carterton FC
Carterton ‘C’ league Champions visited Eynsham Youth for the last game of
the season looking to finish on a high note and with Eynsham chasing a
possible 4th place finish. Carterton were well aware that they
would be in for a tough match, on a very hot glorious morning, and they
weren’t disappointed. Both teams settled quickly in to the game and
although Carterton had plenty of scoring opportunities in the first half
none of them was strong enough to really test the Eynsham goal keeper who
was in fine form. Eynsham had the best of the opportunities to score in the
first half when their striker broke free of the Carterton defence and struck
a great shot at the goal only to see the Carterton goal keeper Reiss Howard
parry the ball against the cross bar.
The teams turned around at half time all square and a little fatigued in the
hot weather. Carterton however were the more persistent of the two teams in
their defending and attacking attitude and eventually it paid off in the
last five minutes of the match. Gareth Jenkins scored Cartertons’ first
goal by slipping out-side a defender on the left and driving a left shot
home from the edge of the goal area just past the Eynsham left post.
Following this late goal Eynsham seemed to push nearly everyone up the pitch
for a last minute attack only to be hit on the break from a great clearance
by Reiss Howard that was collected by Jack Blackburn who in turn passed the
ball out to the left for Gareth Jenkins to run onto and go pass the defender
to strike hard home from the edge of the box for his second goal to secure
the win. This was a really entertaining match to watch by both sides and a
great finish to the season. Cartertons’ Man of the Match was Gareth Jenkins
for a fine brace of Goals. |

…..match report by Bill Jenkins…..Even with the league won Carterton were fully aware that Coombe
would give them a competitive game today and they were not disappointed.
Both teams started very well, but it was Coombe that managed to get players
in behind the Carterton defence to open up the scoring after about 5 mins of
play with a well struck effort from Lewis Harris. Coombe were looking very
lively at this stage and Carterton had to up their game a gear to stay with
them. Carterton’s first goal came after 12 minutes with Carterton’s Gareth
Jenkins putting Jack Blackburn through into the box to drive home the
equaliser. Carterton scored their second goal 5 mins later with Jack
Blackburn receiving the ball in the Coombe goal area from a throw-in taken
on the right side which he managed to control and tap in for his second
goal. Carterton could have scored on a few other opportunities in the first
half with their fast breaks from the half-way line but they squandered their
chances each time right in front of goal by over running the ball.
Carterton turned around at half time a goal up, but Coombe were certainly not out of
it and they put Carterton under continuous pressure on the right side
winning a number of corners. Coombe's equaliser was well deserved and came
halfway through the second half. Their goal was an individual effort that
came about following a driving run down the right side by Conner Walton who
managed to evade a few tackles and drive the ball home into the top of the
net from the tightest of angles. Following the equalising goal the
Carterton goal keeper Reiss Howard hurt his leg and was replaced by Dylan
Moyce. The match looked like it was heading for a draw at this stage as time
was running out, but Jack Blackburn managed to pick up his hat-trick for
Carterton with just minutes left to play. Carterton’s goal keeper Dylan
Moyce made a long clearance for Gareth Jenkins to take inside the Coombe
half and put Jack Blackburn through the middle with a great first time touch
which he ran into the goal area and drove home for the win.
Carterton’s Man of the Match was Jack Blackburn for a great hat-trick of goals. |

Banbury United 1 v 5v CFC U 10
Match report by Bill Jenkins…..Carterton reproduced the form that helped
them to win this league in a thrilling encounter against a well organised
Banbury United team. Banbury started the better of the two sides and were
unlucky not to go ahead at the beginning putting in an early cross behind
the Carterton defence. Carterton scored their first goal after about 10
mins with Steven Coleman driving home a great corner from Gareth Jenkins.
This goal seemed to galvanise Carterton into action. Carterton’s second
goal was an excellent effort from Jack Blacburn taking the ball outside the
Banbury box and running out side the Banbury defenders to drive home from
just inside the Banbury goal area. Carterton’s third goal was also scored
by Jack Blacburn chipping the ball in over the goal keeper from the edge of
the goal area.>
Carterton turned around three goals up at half time to face a Banbury team
that was determined not to just roll over. The game was very all even for
the first ten minutes or so of the second half, but Carterton hit Banbury on
the counter with Jack Blacburn working his way in along the touch line
dribbling around the Banbury defence to strike hard home for his hat-trick.
Carterton’s last goal also came from a break with Jack Blackburn putting
Gareth Jenkins through on the left to run into the Banbury goal area and
thunder home. Banbury scored a consolation goal in the final five mins of
the game which they certainly deserved as the final score line did not tell
the whole story of the game and the effort that Banbury put in to this
match. Carterton’s Man of the Match was defender Jake Haines for his non
stop work at the heart of the Carterton defence. |

Bicester Town
1 v 8 CFC U 10
Match report by Bill Jenkins…..Both teams started this game
equally well and it was Bicester Town that had the best opportunities to
score early on in the match. The first break through of the game came after
about 10 minutes with Carterton’s Jack Blackburn hustling his way pass the
Bicester Town defence to score the opening goal. It wasn’t long before
Bicester Town opened their account with a long range effort that went over
the head of the Carterton goalkeeper only to hit the left hand upright and
rebound out for Bicester to tap in for the equaliser. Carterton struck
straight back with their second goal which started from a counter attack
deep in their own half and finished with Gareth Jenkins on the left passing
to Stephen Coleman coming in off the right wing to drive home pass the
goalkeeper. Carterton's third goal followed on quite quickly with Gareth
Jenkins putting James Collett through to score just before the half time
whistle.
Carterton’s turned around 3 goals to 1 goal up at half time
and their game just grew with momentum as they proceeded to dominate the
second half with their quick passing. Carterton scored a further 5 goals in
the second half through Gareth Jenkins (2 x goals), Stephen Coleman (2nd
goal of the game), Ross De La Haye and James Collett (2nd goal of
the game). Carterton’s Man of the Match was Gareth Jenkins for his great
support play and a brace of goals. |

CFC U 10 4 v 0 Freeland
Match
report by Bill Jenkins…..Carterton only required a single point from this
game to win the league on the back of their 16 league and cup matches
winning streak. It was Freeland though that started the better of the two
teams on a glorious bright fresh morning at Monahan Way. Carterton found
themselves bogged down in their half for the first 5 -10 minutes of the game
owing to Freeland’s stubborn resistance in midfield. Once Carterton
tightened up their play in midfield and started stringing passes together it
wasn't long before their centre forward Jack Blackburn found himself in
space on the receiving end of a passing move that started out of left
defence, switched to the right and finished with him driving into the
Freeland goal area to strike home firmly pass the Freeland goal keeper.
Jack Blackburn's 2nd goal came 5 minutes later in similar vain to
the first.
The teams turned around with Carterton 2 goals up on top of their game and in
commanding form. Carterton’s Jack Blackburn scored another brace of goals
in the first 10 minutes of the second half to put the game beyond dispute.
Freeland remained under a great deal of pressure for the remainder of the
match, but to their credit and determination in defence they prevented
Carterton from adding to their 4 goal tally. Carterton’s Man of the Match
was Jack Blackburn making up for his absent last week by scoring 4 great
goals to seal the

CFC U 10 1 v 0 Ducklington (reverse fixture)
Match
report by Bill Jenkins.....Carterton
went into this match with 3 of their regular first team players missing on
the back of a 15 match winning run. Another win would virtually guarantee
them the league championship given their high goal difference. Ducklington
on the other hand are still fighting for second place and need all the
points they can muster from their last 5 games in order to gain promotion to
the B league.
The match was very free flowing and competitively fought on a large pitch throughout what
can only be described as a glorious sun bathed morning at Ducklington.
Carterton were unlucky not to score in the first couple of minutes when
Dylan Moyce was put through in to the Ducklington goal area with only the
goal keeper to beat. Although he struck the ball very well it flew past the
right-hand post. The game settled down after that and although Carterton
put together some good moves the first half was evenly balanced.
Carterton’s break through came 5 minutes into the second half down the left side when
Dylan Moyce beat the Ducklington defence with a pass across the goal area
for James Collett to run onto and slam home the goal. Carterton continued
to look for a second goal through-out the rest of the second half to secure
the win, but a stubborn Ducklington defence and goal keeper defied them.
The remainder of the match was well fought by both teams right up to the
final whistle with neither team able to increase their tally. Carterton’s
Man of the Match was James Collett for his energetic display in mid-field
and a great goal to help seal the league title. |

KO Cup .....CFC U 10 2 v 0 Banbury United
Match
report by Bill Jenkins .....Carterton
went into this game looking to maintain their undefeated record for the
season and to secure a place in the semi-finals of the Cup (one place
further than they managed last year). Banbury United were also looking to
continue their five match undefeated run and claim a place for themselves in
the semi-finals of the Cup. Consequently with both teams in good form this
game had all the ingredients for an entertaining Cup match.
The match didn't disappoint and with Banbury starting the match with the wind behind
them both teams contested the ball well in the middle of the pitch.
Carterton steadily won the mid-field contest and played most of their
football inside the Banbury half. Carterton’s first goal came roughly half
way through the first half from a move that started from just inside the
Banbury half with Carterton’s James Morgan passing the ball out to the left
for Gareth Jenkins to take on and deliver a pass back over to the right side
for Steven Coleman to run onto and deliver it back at pace across the goal
area for James Morgan to run onto and finish off the move by tapping the
ball pass the goal keeper into the net from a meter out.
Carterton turned around with the strong wind behind them in the second half a goal up
and in control of the match having played some fine football in the first
half. Carterton’s second goal came after about five minutes of play with
Gareth Jenkins playing Jack Blackburn in with a simple touch up the middle
of the pitch to run onto the ball pass the Banbury defence and fire the ball
past the goal keeper to secure their deserved lead. Banbury to their credit
continued to contest the match and press forward for an opportunity to score
but the remainder of the match was always going to be an uphill battle, 2
goals down against a strong wind and a team in good form. Banbury's goal
keeper Charlie Mallock had a very good game and Carterton’s Man of the Match
was Gareth Jenkins for a fine display of football and continued supporting
play throughout the match. |

CFC U 10 4 v 0 Tower Hill Stars
Match
report by Bill Jenkins…..Carterton
maintained their unbeaten winning streak in this local derby match.
Carterton started fast and furious with the advantage of a strong wind
behind them almost scoring in the first minute of the game with an attacking
move down the middle that finished with the ball bouncing dangerously across
the Tower Hill Goal mouth. The first Carterton goal came after about five
minutes following some good interplay down the right that finished with the
ball deflecting off a defender from a Steven Coleman shot from inside the
goal area. Carterton’s second goal came half way through the first half
when Gareth Jenkins made a timely pass for James Morgan to run onto and
strike home sweetly pass the goal keeper. Tower Hill had a couple of
opportunities to score in the first half; the best one coming from an
attacking move down the left after their centre forward was put through
behind the Carterton defence. Fortunately for Carterton their goal keeper
Reiss Howard was equal to a fine shot from the edge of the goal area
plucking the ball out of the air. Carterton’s third goal was scored a minute
before half time by Gareth Jenkins following some fine interplay with James
Morgan and Jack Blacburn. Gareth struck the ball hard and low at the goal
from the left side of the goal area, unfortunately for the Tower Hill goal
keeper the ball deflected pass him off a defender onto the left upright and
into the goal.
The second half was much tougher going for Carterton with the wind against them.
Unfortunately for Tower Hill they could not take full advantage of the wind
though they did manage to keep Carterton down to a single goal following a
fine performance by their goal keeper Jamie Godfrey. Carterton’s fourth
goal of the game came from Steven Coleman who showed lots of attacking
spirit through out the match. On this occasion he chose to drive the ball
hard and low into the goal from 20 yds out on the right side catching the
Tower Hill defenders and goal keeper totally off their guard. Carterton’s
Man of the Match was their Captain James Morgan for another energetic
performance in midfield |

Cup Match
U10s:
Bampton Town 2 v 2 Carterton FC (Carterton Won 3 v 0
Penalties)……
Match
report by Bill Jenkins. This Cup match was always going to be
something of a local Derby between two teams that are both capable of
playing exciting football and true to form even the cold and wet conditions
could not prevent this match from living up to its expectations.
Carterton started the more lively of the two teams and were
unlucky not to score after five minutes when a close range shot by Jack
Blackburn was fired across the goal mouth and shaved the right hand post.
Bampton soon settled and played their way back into the game with some good
football. Carterton scored their first goal halfway through the first half
through a hard low struck corner by Gareth Jenkins from the left that went
in at the front post. Both teams were playing good attacking football by
this stage and Carterton turned around a goal up at half time having to
defend a muddy goal area. Carterton had to do a lot more defending in the
second half; however they looked very dangerous on the break and were
unlucky not to go two goals up. Bampton evened the score in the last quarter
of the match through Jake Pritchard who ran the ball up the middle past the
Carterton defence and beat the goal keeper with a low well taken shot from
the edge of the goal area.
The match went into extra time and it was Bampton that took
the lead for the first time in the match after some persistent pressure from
a series of corners. The goal was scored from a corner at close range by
Jonny Stoner, the Carterton goal keeper Reiss Howard caught the ball but
could not stop it crossing the line. Carterton fought their way back into
the game through a well taken goal by James Morgan who ran the ball into the
Bampton goal area and fired the ball hard into the back of the net to even
the score.
The match finished two goals each after extra time and went
in to penalties. Carterton scored first through Capt James Morgan and
Bampton failed to hit the target with their first attempt. Carterton
proceeded to go three goals up through Jack Blackburn and Stephen Coleman
after Carterton’s goal Keeper Reiss Howard saved the next two attempts by
Bampton. Carterton subsequently won a compelling competitive cup
match of which both teams can be proud of their performances; Carterton’s
Man of the Match was Riess Howard who played a great match throughout the
game in some very cold and wet conditions. |

Cup Match U10s:
Carterton 12 (Twelve) v 0 Moreton Ranger
Match
report by Bill Jenkins…..Goals came thick and fast for Carterton (‘C’
League) in this cup match against Moreton Rangers whom are currently 2nd
in the ‘D’ league. In the end the goals were too numerous to
mention individually. Carterton scored 6 goals in each half for a grand
total of 12 goals at the finish. The main aim for Carterton in this game
was to concentrate on playing passing football and not to get carried away
as a bunch of individuals; to their credit they kept the football going well
through-out the game. Moreton’s goal keeper had his work cut out and to his
credit pulled off some fine saves. The top scorer for Carterton was Jack
Blackburn with 5 goals, next was Carterton’s Man of the Match Steven Coleman
with a hat-trick and lastly was Gareth Jenkins and Capt James Morgan with a
pair each. A fine morning’s football for Carterton whom managed to vary
their play scoring from a mixture of corners, free-kicks and open
interplay. Moreton Rangers deserve a mention for their continued
commitment and running through-out the game. |

CFC U 10 3 v 1 Deddington Colts Cougars
Match
report by Bill Jenkins…..This
was a very important league match for both teams that have displayed a lot
of good form at the top of the division. Carterton got off to a flying
start through a well worked goal that started from the kick-off. Carterton
defender Ben Cobb struck the ball down the middle for Jack Blackburn to win
the challenge and drive on in to the Deddington goal area and pass the ball
across the goal mouth for Carterton’s Gareth Jenkins to slide home in the
corner. Deddington worked hard to get back into the game and were rewarded
with a goal after 9 minutes when there centre forward Jack Barberry scored
with a header from a corner taken from the left. Carterton had to work
extremely hard to win the mid-field battle and were rewarded with a break
away goal that was very well executed 3 min before half time by Jack
Blackburn. Carterton struck again 1 min before half time with a well taken
goal by Jack Blackburn finishing off some great interplay.
Carterton turned around 3 v 1 up at half time with the wind in their face. Deddington
played very well in the second half but never really took advantage of the
conditions with Carterton winning most of the mid-field battle. Carterton
played some good football in the second-half against a strong wind and
although they had a number of chances to increase their lead they never
quite managed to get the ball in the net thanks to a determined Deddington
defence. The closest chance for Carterton came from a well taken free kick
that James Morgan rattled against the Deddington cross bar. All said this
was a very good game of football to watch with both teams playing some very
entertaining football. Carterton's Man of the Match was Ben Cobb for
another fine display of disciplined football in defence |

Combe Juniior
Sports 1 v 6 CFC U 10
Match
report by Bill Jenkins…..This match was for top place in the Div. Both
Combe and Carterton had won all of their first 5 league matches of the
season, with Combe having the better goal difference. The match didn’t
disappoint and although it was Carterton that made most of the running in
the first half putting Combe defence under a great deal of pressure, it was
Combe that scored first ¾ of the way through the first half through a well
struck shot out side the Carterton goal area that sailed over the head of
the goal keeper. That goal was against the run of play and Carterton struck
back minutes later through a well worked goal that started down the right
and finished with James Morgan striking the ball home inside the goal area
to complete the move. The first half finished shortly after all even a
goal each.
Carterton
turned round at half time with the advantage of the slope in the second half
and scored within the first minute through Jack Blackburn from close inside
the goal area. There was no stopping Carterton now and Carterton's’ third
goal was scored through Gareth Jenkins following up open play down the left
side. Goals continued to come thick and fast for Carterton now with Jack
Blacburn finishing off a cross from Gareth Jenkins for his second goal.
Steven Coleman coming in off of the right wing to score his goal minute
later and Jack Blackburn finished off the goals for Carterton by completing
his hat-trick 5 minutes from the end. This really was a game of 2 different
halves as they say! Carterton’s Man of the Match was birthday boy Jack
Blacburn for a great display of skill and determination up front and for
completing a hat-trick of goals. |

Tower Hill All Stars
Match report by Bill Jenkins…..Carterton (top of the table)
were looking for their 6th consecutive in this game against
bottom of the league Tower Hill All Stars who had just recently notched up
their first league win and found some improved form. Carterton started the
match extremely well and almost scored in the first minute of the game
through a great passing move up the middle of the pitch. Carterton
dominated the first half and had many chances at goal by Jack Blackburn
either saved or deflected by a packed Tower Hill all Stars goal area. The
break through and relief came just before half time through an attack that
started on the left with Steven Coleman throwing the ball in to an unmarked
Ben Cobb who promptly dispatched the ball into the Tower Hill goal area for
Jack Blackburn to smartly finish off. Carterton turned around a goal up and it seemed that it would
only be a matter of time before they scored their second. Subsequently the
second goal came about five minutes into the second half once again through
Jack Blackburn putting the finishing touches to some positive forward
interplay up the middle of the pitch. James Morgan scored Carterton’s third
goal with a well taken shot from just inside the goal area that was
deflected off a defenders boot pass the goalkeeper. Carterton’s Gareth
Jenkins and James Morgan both had a number of other very good efforts at
goal saved by the spirited efforts of the Tower Hill goal keeper who had a
very good game through-out. To be fair Tower Hill had a number of spirited
counter attacks kept out by a determined Carterton defence that was kept on
its toes throughout the game. Carterton’s Ben Cobb deserved a particular
mention for a disciplined performance in defence and for his efforts in
linking up with the forwards in attack and helping to set up their first
goal, consequently he was awarded Carterton’s Man of the Match. |

CFC U 10 3 v 1 Bloxham
Match
report by Bill Jenkings…..Both
teams started well however Bloxham had Carterton under pressure for a period
and would have scored half way through the first half but for a great diving
save by goalkeeper Reiss Howard. Most of Carterton’s opportunities in the
first half came from counter attacks through Jack Blackburn who had a number
of good chances saved by Bloxham’s goal keeper William Adams.
Bloxham’s Brandon Haden was the first to score in the second half taking advantage of
some slack marking in the Carterton goal area from which he struck the ball
cleanly pass the Carterton goal keeper. Carterton's all-round team
performance improved in the second half and they soon had Bloxham under
pressure. Carterton’s James Morgan scored the equaliser with an individual
run from midfield into the Bloxham goal area from which he rifled the ball
home pass the goal keeper. Bloxham came close to scoring a second goal and
probably would have but for a timely brave tackle from Carterton's goal
keeper Reiss Howard on the edge of his goal area. Carterton had more of the
play in the second half and soon won a free-kick on the edge of the Bloxham
goal area when goal keeper William Adams handled the ball outside his area.
Carterton’s James Morgan scored his second goal from the free-kick with a
well struck shot high into the Bloxham net. It was Gareth Jenkins that
sealed the match for Carterton taking advantage of an opportunity that
presented it self on the left inside the Bloxham goal area from which he
stuck the ball across the Bloxham goal and into the net. Overall this was a
very exciting and competitive match. This was Bloxhams first loss of the
season and Carterton’s fifth straight win. Carterton’s Man of the Match was
goal keeper Reiss Howard for a solid performance through out the match. |

U10 Cup Match: Carterton 4 v 0 Wychwood
Both teams started well making good use of the ball, but
slowly Carterton began to dominate the midfield and push forward. Carterton
had a number of chances in the first half but it wasn’t until about the
fifteenth minute that they got the break through they deserved. Jack
Blackburn scored the first goal with a well taken shot inside the Wychwood
goal mouth after some very good interplay. The second goal followed shortly
afterwards from a move that began down the right side and finished with
James Morgan striking the ball fiercely across the Wychwood goal mouth.
Carterton started the second half 2 goals up and were now dominating the
game. Gareth Jenkins scored the third goal for Carterton after a number of
previous efforts had gone wide of the goal. Gareth made a strong run into
the Wychwood goal area from the left side and fired the ball home low and
hard. Carterton fourth goal was probably their best. The ball was moved
down the right side to Steven Coleman to fire over the perfect cross for
Jack Blackburn to strike home. Jack Blackburn was unlucky not to score his
first hat trick for Carterton but for a great save from Wychwood’s goal
keeper Matthew Cradock who parried a tremendous shot over the bar for a
corner. This was a good win for Carterton beating a team from the ‘B’
League. Carterton’s Ben Cobb deserved a mention for some hard work and
great tackling in defence, but Carterton’s Man of the Match was Jack
Blackburn for working hard upfront and scoring some great goals. |

CFC U 10 2
v 1 Banbury United
Match report by Bill
Jenkins…..Carterton started
the stronger of the two teams winning the mid-field contest and pressing the
Banbury defence. Carterton moved the ball very well and Carterton’s centre
forward Jack Blackburn came very close to scoring midway through the first
half after a driving run that finished with him hitting the right up-right.
Carterton’s James Morgan was the first to score at about the fifteen minute
mark from just inside the Banbury goal mouth after some great
inter-passing. Banbury had some good counter attacks in the first half but
the Carterton defence managed to break down their attacks and Carterton’s
Goalie didn’t have an awful lot to do in the first half. Carterton turned
around a goal up from the first half but were slow to start in the second
half and Banbury who always looked like they could be dangerous put
Carterton under pressure in the goal mouth. Consequently Banbury took
advantage of Carterton’s inability to clear the ball after a couple of
attempts to do so and Banbury’s Jacob Tuckey poked the ball home to level
the score. Carterton managed to work their way back into the game and
midway through the second half it was Carterton’s Jack Blackburn that struck
the winning goal across the Banbury goalmouth after another piece of
positive passing. Banbury came on strong for the remainder of the game but
Carterton managed to hold on to their goal advantage up to the final
whistle. Carterton’s Steven Coleman deserved a mention for some great
running, passing and tackling down the right side, but Carterton’s Man of
the Match was defender Jake Haines for a good display of timely tackling and
hard graft on the right-side. |

Freeland FC 1 v 3 CFC U 10
Match
report by Bill Jenkins…..Both teams started the game well and it was
Freeland that scored the first goal after 5 minutes following some rare
slack marking by Careterton’s defence. Joshua Millington received the ball
wide on the left and struck a perfect shot high over everyone’s head into
the back of the net. That goal proved to be the perfect wake-up call for
Carterton who proceeded to inject some urgency into their game. Carterton’s
Capt James Morgan scored the next goal some minutes later from inside the
Freeland goal area following up some good passing and tackling by
Carterton. Carterton continued to dominate the mid-field and move the ball
wide with speed and it was Jack Blackburn that scored Carterton’s second
goal with a well struck shot from close range across the Freeland goal
mouth. Freeland were under pressure now and Carterton would have increased
their lead further if their goalkeeper Alex Millington hadn’t pulled off a
great save parrying a shot from Carterton’s Gareth Jenkins over the bar for
a corner. Carterton were solid in both defence and attack, and subsequently
it was James Morgan that once again won the ball in mid field and drove into
the Freeland goal area to score his second and Carterton’s third goal of the
first half.
Carterton had
more possession and subsequent attacking moves than Freeland in the second
half, however the Freeland defence were equal to the task. Consequently
honours were all even in a particularly hot second half with neither team
adding to their first half goal tally. Overall this was a very good
performance by Carterton and in particular their Capt and Man of the Match
James Morgan. |

v 0 Eynsham Youth
Match
report by Bill Jenkins…..Carterton
dominated the first half but failed to score owing to a stubborn Eynsham
defence. Eynsham looked dangerous on the counter however Carterton’s defence
of Haines, Cobb and Morgan looked sharp and were quick to the task.
Carterton scored early on in the second half through a well taken shot
through Gareth Jenkins close to goal on the left after some good passing
movement down the right-hand side. This goal spurred on Eynsham‘s
performance and Carterton were under pressure for a period. That
pressure was eased totally after Gareth Jenkins scored a second goal not too
dissimilar to the first. Carterton then went on to dominate the game
scoring a third and fourth goal through James Morgan and Man of the Match
Steven Coleman. Overall Carterton put in a very good team performance that
displayed some excellent quick passing movement and some hard defensive
work. A great start to the season for Carterton |

CFC U 10 1 v 5 Bourton
Rovers Youth
M
match report by Craig Harvey…..Carterton were at home for a re-arranged
fixture against Bourton Rovers, the weather overnight had been a frosty -3
degrees C and the pitch was subject to a late inspection. Eventually it
was declared fit to play on and the two teams lined up against each other.
This match should have been a close encounter, with neither team gaining
an edge in previous matches.
Carterton lined up in their usual formation of Sam Baldwin in goal, Josh
Herbert and Josh Knibbs in defence, Thomas Harvey, Jack Cameron and Jack
Davies in midfield and Lewis Smith up front.
Carterton took the kick off and it seemed almost immediately ran into
trouble. Bourton easily stole possession and ran forward on the attack.
The Carterton defence, who were left exposed, could not stop the shot
which found its way into the back of the net. 1 minute played and 1 nil
down.
After 2 minutes Josh Herbert found himself just inside the Bourton halfway line,
after looking up he let loose a speculative shot which looped over the Bourton
goal keeper to even up the score. 2 minutes and the score was 1 - 1.
Hopefully now both teams would now settle down and play some football.
Bourton certainly did just that and quickly went on the attack.
Carterton's defence was left exposed time and time again and Bourton
capitalised on the defensive frailties and scored a further 2 goals before
the end of the half.
Bourton started the second half and carried on piling on the pressure.
Bourton then had a succession of corners, which Carterton failed to deal
with, and inevitably scored from all this pressure. The score now was 4 -
1 to Bourton and the Carterton team looked completely dejected. John
Herbert made two substitutions replacing Lewis and Thomas for Richard and
Sam Jarvis. Although it was a mammoth task to change the outcome of the
game at least when these two boys came on they injected a bit of fire into
Carterton and they started to play some better attacking football.
However, Bourton were not about to take their foot of the gas and scored
their 5th goal to seal the match.
This
was a well deserved win for Bourton, unfortunately for Carterton they just
did not turn up at the races today. However, the boys should take heart in
knowing that they can play some good football and this match was purely a
blip. I am sure the next time they play a match they will play with their
usual enthusiasm and energy. Come on the Colts! |

KO Cup 3rd
Round…..CFC U 10 Colts 2 v 3 Deddington
Match
report by Mark Knibbs…..After two 1 all draws in the league between the
two teams, a close and hard fought cup game was expected. The crowd was
not to be disappointed.
Carterton won the toss and elected to play with the strong and blustery
wind at their backs.
After
2 minutes Carterton had a good shot from Josh Herbert well saved. From the
keepers kick a misunderstanding between 2 Carterton midfielders, who got
in each others way allowed the ball to bounce through to the Deddington
attacker who brought the ball under control and after side stepping a
defender finished off well with a strong shot into the bottom corner of
the Carterton net.
Soon
after Jack Cameron came close after a battling run through midfield and a
shot that had the Deddington keeper scampering for a fine save.
After
12 minutes of a free flowing game, Carterton won a corner. The ball was
crossed over by Josh Herbert and the ball was partially cleared, the ball
was fired back in and the rebound fell to Josh Hertbert who coolly slotted
the ball into the net.
The
balance of the half was evenly balanced with the ball flowing from one end
to the other. In the final minute of the half a shot from Josh Knibbs was
cleared off the line by the Deddington defence. 1 All at half time was a
fair reflection of the game and set up the second half for a titanic
struggle.
Shortly into the second half, Carterton won a free kick in a promising
position on the edge of the box, but the shot from Josh H went high over
the bar.
Both
sides continued to battle and in the 10th minute a strong run
by Louise Smith,. despite some rough stuff from the defender, Louise
managed to steady himself and fire a good shot into the bottom corner.
The
goal inspired Deddington and they started to put Carterton under some
sustained pressure. The Carterton Defence was standing up to the pressure,
but in the 15th minute a shot from Deddington struck the
underside of the Carterton bar. The advancing Deddington forward looked
certain to score, but some how to the Carterton home supports relief, Josh
Knibbs managed to hook the ball clear with a spectacular overhead bicycle
kick. Perhaps this was going to be Carterton Day.
With
only 2 minutes to go Carterton started to believe that perhaps they would
be through to the next round. Then tragedy struck, a well-struck clearance
from Josh Herbert struck the referee in the face and the rebound fell to a
Deddington player who was clear on goal. He coolly slotted the ball into
the Carterton net. 2 all. A cruel stroke of luck for Carterton, but on the
balance of the half and the game, a draw was a fair reflection of the
play.
The
shock of the equaliser clearly rattled Carterton and they never really
recovered. From the kick of, the Deddington forward dribbled past three
Carterton players and slotted a good pass to an advancing colleague, with
only the keeper to beat, a well placed shot made it 3 to 2.
The
remainder of extra time saw Deddington put Carterton under continued
pressure with an occasional break from defence by Carterton. However
Carterton never really threaten to score and ultimately Deddington
deserved to progress to the next round if only on their play in extra
time. A good battling display earned them a Semi final place against the
other Carterton side. Well played to Deddington, but good luck to
Carterton to beat you in the next round. |

CFC U 10 Colts 1 v 4 Banbury Town Youth
Match
report by Craig Harvey….. Carterton Colts were again at home, this week
against Banbury. The team line up was a familiar one now. Sam Baldwin, who
has been in good form recently, was in goal. Josh Knibbs and Josh Herbert
in defence, last weeks outstanding player, Jack Cameron, in centre
midfield and out on the wings were Thomas Harvey and Jack Davies. Our
strike force was Lewis Smith.
Colts
won the toss and elected to change ends to try and take advantage of the
strong wind that was blowing. However inside 2 minutes a complete lack of
awareness inside the Colts goal area from the team allowed Banbury to
score an extremely soft goal. Not the start we wanted! However from here
Colts started to claw their way back into the match and play started to
even up. Carterton started to apply good pressure and for a 5 minute
period had Banbury camped in there own half, unfortunately they could not
convert there numerous chances. The whole team were now playing well and
putting in a great deal of effort and determination. Not only were the
attacking element of the team having a good game but the defence were
doing a terrific job as well, of considerable note was an excellent
challenge by Josh Knibbs on a Banbury player who was clear on goal and
would of took a shot if not for the excellent tackle by Josh. The 1st
half ended with Banbury in front by 1 goal to nil.
The 2nd
half started much like the 1st. Colts started very sluggishly
and Banbury took a speculative shot which found the back of the net. Again
this goal seemed to kick start Colts into playing the good football that
we know they can. Jack Cameron pulled a goal back for the Colts after 9
minutes with an extremely well taken goal. He picked up the ball near the
half way line and took a surging run towards the Banbury defence, as he
reached the defensive line he calmly took it round them all and slotted
the ball home with his left foot. Lewis who had played probably one of his
best matches of the season was causing Banbury defence plenty of trouble,
but just could not find that finishing touch to get the ball in the back
of the net. After 13 minutes Banbury started an attack, which had managed
to break down Colts defence, but Sam Baldwin dived bravely at the
attackers feet and snuffed out the attack. As the game went on Colts had
to push more and more forward searching for the goal that would even up
the score. Unfortunately in doing so left their defence exposed to the
Banbury attack who took full advantage and scored twice in the closing
minutes of the match. As the final whistle blew the score was 4 – 1 to
Banbury, but this was definitely a flattering score line and by no means
told the story of the game. The boys put in a great deal of effort and
produced, at times, some good football.
Man
of The Match today was Lewis Smith for the excellent way he held the ball
up and his incisive runs into the Banbury defence. |

Bampton Town 0 v 3 CFC U
10 Colts
Match
report by Craig Harvey…..Carterton Colts today were playing their close
rivals both in the league and in location. Despite the rain for 2 days the
pitch at Monahan Way
was in excellent condition for some good football. There was only one
change to the team today and that was Josh Knibbs returning to take his
place as our last line of defence.
Bampton won the toss and elected to change ends. Colts kicked off and
almost immediately lost possession, Bampton collected the ball and took a
speculative shot that had Sam Baldwin scrambling to catch the ball.
Hopefully this was not the way things were going to continue. Very quickly
Colts recovered and started to play football. The opening 5 minutes saw
some scrappy football with neither side really putting any passes together
but was entertaining nonetheless. The 1st chance fell to the
Colts in the form of Thomas Harvey who managed to break through the
defence and managed to scramble a shot away, which the Bampton goalkeeper
easily saved. Colts started to apply some good pressure to Bampton and
managed to keep them pinned in their own half. Colts then had a couple
more chances of finding the goal that has seemed to elude them in previous
games. Josh Herbert fired a shot from just inside the Bampton half, but it
went wide. Next pressure applied to the Bampton defence by Thomas Harvey
saw him get the ball, from wide on the left he crossed to Lewis Smith, who
heads the ball, again just going wide of the post. After 11 minutes of
play, Colts created possibly the best move of the match. Deep in their own
half Jack Cameron, who already had had an excellent match bossing the
midfield, picked up the ball and started a run out wide. Thomas Harvey
then overlapped Jack who provided a perfect pass in to the feet of Thomas,
who cut inside and placed an excellent ball into the bottom right hand of
the goal, leaving the goalkeeper little chance of a save.
Bampton, from the kick off, came back fighting and having secured a throw
in deep in Colts territory, the throw in was a long high ball that, again
had Sam having to come and make a save. Colts quickly regained the
advantage with some good work in applying almost constant pressure to the
Bampton team, especially Jack Davies, Jack Cameron and Thomas Harvey. Just
before the half time whistle blew came Bampton’s best chance of the match.
From the right Bampton fired in a low cross that skimmed across the goal
face and went wide for a goal kick. A good half for Colts and well
deserving of a 1 - nil lead at half time.
Bampton got the 2nd half underway, but immediately Colts put
them under pressure, determined not to let Bampton back in the game.
Within 2 minutes Jack Cameron passed the ball to Lewis Smith who found
himself out wide on the right, Lewis crossed the ball to Thomas Harvey,
who found himself with a scoring opportunity. He struck the ball well, but
the Bampton goalkeeper made a save, unfortunately for him the ball
rebounded back to Thomas who, with his unfavoured right foot sent the ball
into the back of the net. 2 – nil to Colts.
Colts
were well and truly on top of the game and were now creating numerous
chances. And after only 5 minutes of the half gone, Thomas Harvey took a
throw in to Jack Cameron who neatly passed it back to Thomas. Thomas
spread the ball across the park to Jack Davies, who took on a player and
then struck a sweet shot making the score line a respectable 3 – nil.
Quite a few more chances were created by The Colts team that were all
playing superbly, the best of these falling to Jack Davies, who took a
shot but saw it rebound off the bottom of the upright, which was then
cleared by the Bampton defence. The match ended with Colts deservingly 3 –
nil winners.
All
elements of the team worked well, the defence of Josh Knibbs and Josh
Herbert stood firm when called and the midfield of Jack Cameron, Jack
Davies and Thomas Harvey were excellent. Lewis Smith did well holding the
ball and make some good runs in to attacking areas. Man of the Match today
was Jack Cameron, who had an outstanding game in midfield. |

CFC U 10 Colts 0 v 2
Garden City
Match
report by Craig Harvey…..Our 1st match of the New Year was a
home fixture against Garden City, who were flying high in the league. This
would prove to be a tough encounter straight after the long break and
hopefully our boys would come out strong. The team lined up with Sam
Baldwin, our goalkeeper. In defence today due to the absence of Josh
Knibbs would be Jack Cameron and Josh Herbert. Centre of midfield was Sam
Jarvis and to the left and right of him were Thomas Harvey and Jack Davies
and the striker was Lewis Smith.
Garden City got the game underway and Carterton Colts quickly seemed to
get into their stride with a good attack down the left from Thomas Harvey
who passed to Josh Herbert who had a shot, which unfortunately was saved
but went for a corner. Things were looking good for the Colts, lets hope
it could last. All to quickly however, Garden City recovered from the
initial surprise and started to string some good passes together. After 6
minutes of battling play Garden City broke through the defence and took a
shot that forced an excellent save from Sam Baldwin, then only a few
minutes later Sam was pressed into action again this time with a brave
dive at the oncoming attackers feet to stop a certain goal. The play then
started to favour Garden City who seemed a little bit quicker to the ball
and appeared to have a bit more physical presence than the Colts. As the
half was drawing to a close some good pressure from the Colts midfield
forced an error from the goal kick and the ball fell to Jack Davies, who
produced a lovely shot, which sadly just climbed above the crossbar. The
half ended 0-0.
As
the second half started Colts seemed somewhat deflated as their passing
and 1st touch started to desert them. You could sense that
Garden City felt they had the upper hand and they started to press home
their advantage. 1st Garden City crossed the ball in from the
by-line, which eluded both teams, and went straight across the goal face.
A minute later a good shot by City forced an excellent defending header
from Jack Cameron, who had had a solid game so far. Then a possible
turning point in the game came when Lewis Smith made a good break and was
running toward the goal, a Garden City defender came across out muscled
Lewis off the ball on the edge of the box. The referee saw nothing out
of order and waved play on. The ball rolled out for a corner, from the
subsequent play Garden City made a break, which saw Jack Cameron who was
isolated valiantly trying to stop the attack but Garden City managed to
get the shot away and score.
Colts manager then made couple of substitutions. Sam Jarvis and Lewis
Smith, made way for Bradley Allen and Mahir Allan, hopefully this would be
the winning formula the Colts needed. And for a while it seemed to work.
Lewis and Mahir produced some good link up play in midfield that allowed
Josh Herbert to take a shot, but again the ball went over the crossbar.
Then on 17 minutes Garden City got the winning goal to seal the victory.
The last couple of plays came to Colts, who suddenly decided to start
playing to win. The first chance fell to Thomas Harvey, who was put
through on goal by some good play from Mahir. Thomas, who normally takes
these chances well, managed to pull his shot wide. Next was Colts’ best
play of the match, which linked up Jack Davies to Mahir back to Jack
Davies who struck a good shot on target, and the City. |

CFC U 10 Colts 1 v 1
Deddington Colts
Match
report by Craig Harvey…..Carterton’s match this week was a home
fixture against Deddington Colts, and after last weeks thrilling
encounter, expectation was high amongst the army of home supporters. The
team lined up with the same formation as last week.
Carterton got the match underway, however it was Deddington who came out
of the blocks firing and within the 1st minute they had a shot
which was deflected wide for a corner. Luckily this was a wake up call for
Carterton and they seemed to switch on and start playing some good
football. The opening 10 minutes was a hard fought contest with both sides
trying their best to carve out a chance to score, but to no avail. Then on
11 minutes Deddington fired a shot at goal, which forced a save from Sam
Baldwin, unfortunately the ball came free from the goalkeepers grasp and
seemed to be heading for the back of the net, luckily Thomas Harvey was on
hand and made a crucial goal line clearance. The game slowly started to
favour Deddington, as both Carterton’s passing and determination seemed to
dissolve. Deddington started to apply the pressure and unless Carterton
got back into the game it would only be a matter of time before Deddington
scored the opening goal. And on 17 minutes they broke through Carterton’s
defence and struck a good shot which was initially stopped by a good save
from Sam, but as the ball rebounded a Deddington player was on hand to
slot the ball home. From the kick off Deddington sensed that Carterton
were despondent and went looking for another goal, luckily the half time
whistle soon sounded and Carterton went in to the managers team talk 1 –
nil down.
The 2nd
half kicked off and whatever the Carterton manger said appeared to do the
trick as Carterton came out determined to make up for the 1st
half. The team had all their enthusiasm back and a belief that they could
win and on 4 minutes Thomas had a shot that was deflected wide for a
corner, Josh Herbert took the corner and floated it into the box,
unfortunately it just went over the Carterton heads and Deddington came
away with the ball. Both teams battled hard for the next 5 minutes, with
neither side really gaining the ascendancy over their opponents. Midway
through the 1st half John Herbert made an inspiring
substitution, which proved to be the turning point of the game. (Shame the
England
job has already gone John.) Lewis Smith, who had played well in the
striking role, made way for Mahir Allam and with his 1st touch
of the game he nearly evened up the score with a clever little flick that
narrowly went wide of the upright. From here it seemed to be all one way
traffic, Carterton went on the attack. First Jack Davies hit the crossbar
with a good shot from a narrow angle, then a good run from Jack Cameron
created a chance for Mahir again, but his shot went over the crossbar and
Josh Herbert also had several good attempts on goal. The only respite
Deddington had was a free kick from just inside the Carterton half. The
Deddington player hit a lovely ball that he floated into the path of the
Deddington attackers and it was only a brave diving tackle by Sam Baldwin
that stopped the goal. Then it was Carterton’s turn again and they created
chance after chance, only to be scuppered by fantastic play from Eddie Fox
the Deddington goalkeeper. It seemed that Carterton would never score, but
then Thomas Harvey started a run from inside his own half and after
beating 2 defenders found himself clear with just the goalkeeper to beat.
Thomas then produced a sweet shot into top of the net to even up the
score. At this point the crowd went wild (well I did anyway.) Carterton
now had to keep their concentration and shape and they did both
brilliantly. There was only one more chance in the game and this fell to
Deddington in the last minute, who made a break and looked certain to
score, however a absolutely superb covering tackle from Josh Knibbs put
paid to any chance Deddington had of snatching victory.
All
the boys played well, especially in the 2nd half and battling
performances like that could easily see them move up the league. Man of
The Match this week was Josh Knibbs, who had an excellent game in defence
and very rarely put a foot wrong today. |

KO Cup 2nd
Round…..CFC U 10 Colts 2 v 0 Charlton & District
Match
report by Craig Harvey…..Carterton Colts were full of trepidation as they
hosted Charlton & District at The Pavilion in the 2nd round of
the Cup. It was a very cold, wet and windy morning that surely would not
conducive to good football, how wrong we were!
The
team lined up with Sam Baldwin in goal, Josh Knibbs and Josh Herbert in
defence. Jack Cameron was moved forward into midfield and Thomas Harvey
and Jack Davies right and left midfield respectively. Our strike force
today would Lewis Smith.
As
soon as the match kicked off Colts went on the attack, determined to make
up for their below par performance a week earlier and after only 2 minutes
good pressure from the Colts resulted in a shot from Josh Herbert, which
just went wide of the post. Moments later Jack Davies applied some great
pressure to Charlton’s defence, which paid dividends as he won the ball
and produced a lovely cross to Jack Cameron who shot, but again the ball
went wide. Within the 1st 5 minutes Colts had gained the
ascendancy over their opponents and they were not about to relieve the
pressure. Shots were being fired in to the Charlton goal area without
success. Then on 11 minutes, from one of the few attacks Charlton had,
Jack Cameron brought the ball from his own area and found himself with a
clear sight on goal, a good covering tackle from Charlton saw the ball go
for a throw in. From the resulting set piece Jack Davies picked up the
ball on the right hand side and fired in a low shot into the left hand
side of the goal. Colts, although jubilant from scoring, remained focused
and keep up the pressure on Charlton with shots from Josh Herbert, Lewis
Smith and a long range shot from Thomas Harvey. As the half time whistle
sounded the score was 1 – nil to Colts, but could of been a lot more.
A
quick turn round at half time, due to the weather, saw Charlton kick off,
and Colts came out determined for the goal, which would hopefully seal the
game. Early on in the game came the chance they wanted. Thomas Harvey, who
had done some good work on the left, managed to slip past his marker and
place a lovely ball into the path of Lewis, who was in front of goal,
unfortunately the ball got caught under his feet and he couldn’t get his
shot away cleanly. Luckily Colts did not have to wait too long for another
chance. Colts were awarded a corner and as Josh Herbert played the ball in
it fell lovely to Josh Knibbs, who kept his composure and slotted home a
lovely goal which left the Charlton goal keeper little chance of a save.
Colts were now 2 goals to the good, but could not afford to relax for a
second against a team like Charlton. And from the kick off Charlton showed
how dangerous they could be, they created a goal scoring chance and it was
only a fine save from the alert Sam Baldwin that kept the ball from
hitting the back of the net. This chance seemed to revitalise Charlton who
then went on to create a plethora of opportunities to score, but again
whenever Charlton broke clear Sam stood firm and pulled off some very good
saves to keep a clean sheet. The match had now evened up, with both sides
creating chances, but with the excellent way the home team were playing,
this was always going to be Colt’s day. As the half ended, Colts rightly
celebrated an excellent win to put them in the 3rd round of the
cup.
The
team’s performance today was exemplary, with every boy playing his part in
the win. The manager gave special mention to Sam Baldwin for his efforts
in goal and Man Of The Match rightly went to a player who was outstanding
down the right hand side and that was Jack Davies. Well done |

Tower Hill 2 v 0 CFC U 10
Colts
Match
report by Mark Knibbs…..Carterton made the return trip to Tower Hill after
a hard fought battle and close result in the first encounter of the season
where Carterton prevailed 1 nil.
Carterton kicked off and the first 8 minutes saw Carterton put Tower under
sustained pressure, but the away team could not find the finishing shot
with a number of efforts being off target.
A
long probing ball from Tower in the 8th minute caused some
confusion in the Carterton defence. With the goalkeeper late to come off
his line, the tower attacker managed to round the keeper, but the shot
narrowly went wide. A lucky escape for Carterton.
The
away team then continued to pile on the pressure and in the 10th
minute Josh Herbert unleashed a 25yard shot that had the keeper well
beaten, but narrowly went wide of the left upright. In the 15th
minute Carterton where awarded a free kick out on the right side of Towers
half. A well-struck shot again went just over the bar.
Tower
continued to defend well making just a few forays into Carterton territory
on the break. Josh Knibbs defended well with clearing tackles and good
positional play.
On
the 18th minutes the deadlock was almost broken after a good
shot was saved from Thomas Harvey and the rebound came back to Lewis Smith
who had just to side foot it into the net, but unfortunately blasted it
over the top. It looked like Carterton’s inability to take their chances
again might come back to haunt them later.
Half
time came with no score but Carterton firmly in control of the match.
Second half saw Tower come out more determined and both teams played good
football, the ball moving from one end of the pitch to another. In the 10th
minute of the second half a long clearance by Tower found them with a one
on one against the Carterton Defence, a good dribble by Tom Oddy enabled
him to make space for a shot and it flew into the top of the Carterton
Goal. 1 nil Tower Hill.
Carterton kicked off too much encouragement from their Vocal band of
supporters, and again put Tower under pressure, but they where just unable
to get the final pass off and failed to shoot on a few occasions where
they had half a chance. As the half developed Carterton threw more men
into attack in an attempt to get the equaliser and in the last minute of
the half, they found themselves out numbered in defence and Tower where
able to squeeze in a shot at the near post.
The
game ended soon after with a 2 nil win to Tower Hill and the Carterton
team and supporters wondering how on the balance of the match they had
managed to lose. (One of those days.) Well done to Tower Hill who
defended stoutly and took the chances that came their way where Carterton
where unable to do so.
Josh
Knibbs was awarded Carterton man of the match for his good positional play
in defence.
In
the second game a hard and entertaining game saw Tower triumph 4 –2 having
gone into Half time 1 nil down. Carterton Man of the Match was Kieran
Dingle for his strong positional play despite being out numbered in
defence.

Brackley Town 3 v 1 CFC
U 10 Colts
Match
report by Mark Knibbs…..Carterton Colts made the long trip on a Cold and
Frosty morning to Croughton to face Brackley Town Saints. Carterton where
high in confidence after three impressive performances and results in
their last three outings. The starting line up was Sam Baldwin in Goal,
Jack Cameron and Josh Knibbs in defence, Josh Herbert and Jack Davis in
Midfield and Thomas Harvey out wide with Maheer Allan in attack.
Brackley kicked off and made an immediate attack on the Carterton Goal
with some impressive interplay. Carterton where saved by a strong covering
tackle from Jack Cameron leading to a corner for Brackley. The corner was
cleared, but Brackley continued their passing game and put the away team
under pressure with a number of shots that failed to hit the target. In
the 8th Minute, the ball broke to Josh Knibbs in midfield and a
long looping shot had the home keeper stretching to make a good save.
Carterton continued to loose possession in midfield through taking too
much time on the ball and not passing and moving enabling Saints to close
them down too easily. The Carterton Goal came under increasing pressure
from the Brackley Town slick passing and move game and Sam Baldwin was
called on to make a number of saves. In the 12th minute the
home team won a free kick just inside the Carterton half. A finely struck
shot dipped wickedly towards the Carterton goal and Sam again made a fine
diving save to push the shot onto the upright.
Carterton where unable to pressure the Brackley, giving them time to pass
and move and in the 15th minute after sustained pressure Brackley
took the lead from a long speculative shot that bobbled on the Pitch and
went under Sam Baldwin’s desperate dive. Three minutes later it was 2 nil
after Carterton failed to clear another cross and the ball was slotted
into the net. From the kick off the game went as per the previous 18
minutes with Carterton not pressuring Brackley allowing them to get off a
string off passes culminating with another shot that found the back of the
net. Half time, 3 nil which was a fair reflection of the 1st
half play.
Manager John Herbert made 1 change at half time, replacing Maheer Allam
with Lewis Smith. One has to assume that a few harsh words where said as
Carterton came out in the second half much more fired up and ready to take
the game to Brackley. 3 Minutes into the half Josh Herbert made a strong
run through midfield and got his shot off, to be well blocked in the goal
area by an advancing defender. Brackley continued to pass well, but now
Carterton where doing a better job at closing them down and Carterton
started to enjoy more of the ball with a number of probing runs down the
flanks and through mid field. Josh Herbert was replaced by Sam Jarvis 8
minutes into the half. 11 minutes into the half, Jarvis made a terrific
pass through the mid field to Lewis Smith who calmly struck a fine shot
into the bottom corner of the home side net. (Some inspired substitutions
from the Manager had worked their magic).
Carterton where now full of confidence and won a free kick out on the left
flank. Lewis Smith struck a fine shot that struck the top of the Upright.
The pattern continued for the last 10 minutes of the game with Carterton
having superior territorial advantage and Brackley making occasion breaks
into the Carterton half that where well dealt with by the Carterton
defence. In the last minute of the Game, Carterton won another corner.
The ball was fired in and a goal mouth scramble ensued, but Carterton was
unable to get the ball over the line. The ref blew for full time with the
final score being Brackley Town 3 Carterton 1.
On
the Balance of the Game a fair result, but Carterton will take heart from
a significantly improved second half performance, and will look forward to
the return fixture on home turf where they will have ambitions of
reversing the result.
The
second game was a tight fought affair with some attractive football. Final
result was 2 all, and man of the match for Carterton was Kieran Dingle for
a fine defensive display. |

KO Cup ….. Bardwell 0 v 7
Carterton Colts
Match
report by John Herbert…..Carterton Colts went into this game full of
confidence after winning their last 2 league games. The team made 2
changes from last week with Bradley Allen and Lewis Smith coming in for
Jack Cameron and Jack Davies.
The game kicked off on a dull grey morning and Carterton quickly gained
the ascendancy and put early pressure on the Bardwell goal with Lewis
Smith nearly scoring as early as the second minute. The next narrow miss
came from Bradley Allen when his goal bound shot was deflected past the
post for a corner. Carterton Colts then had a succession of corners but
could not apply the finishing touch to open their account. Then in the
10th minute Thomas Harvey's cross shot was blocked by the keeper and
Maahir Alam followed up to knock in the rebound for the opening goal of
the game. Carterton continued to apply pressure but due to some resolute
defending by Bardwell the half time score was 1-0 to Carterton.
Carterton were more inventive and positive at the start of the second
half passing the ball with more authority and purpose. In the 22nd minute
Josh Herbert picked the ball up in midfield and struck a scorcher into the
roof of the net from 20 yards to make it 2-0. 2 minutes later
Carterton worked the ball well in midfield and when Lewis Smith received
the pass on the right hand side he hit a good low shot into the bottom
corner to make it 3-0. Josh Knibbs kept his concentration at the back to
make an important tackle from a rare attacking move by the home side.
Maahir Alam scored the 4th goal for Carterton when he tapped in the
rebound off the goalkeeper following a Josh Herbert shot from the edge of
the area. The next Carterton goal was a well worked set piece when Josh
Knibbs headed in a Josh Herbert corner to make it 5-0. At this point
Carterton made 2 substitutions with Kieran Dingle and Sam Jarvis coming on
for Bradley Allen and Josh Herbert. Carterton continued to pass the ball
well and Thomas Harvey scored at the far post to make it 6-0. Maahir Alam
then ran onto a good through ball by Lewis Smith and scored his hatrick,
which earned him the Man of the Match award and Carterton a 7-0 win.
Bardwell should be commended for their hard work in defence when they were
put under enormous pressure for most of the game. |

Bourton Rovers 0 v 1
Carterton Colts U10's
Match
report by Craig Harvey…..Carterton Colts were away this week to 3rd
place Bourton Rovers, however after a good win last week confidence within
the Colts players was high. The manager, John Herbert, elected to field an
unchanged line up from the previous week.
Bourton kicked off and went straight on the attack and forced a corner
within the 1st minute of play. As the corner was crossed in the
Colts defence dealt it with confidently and cleared the ball. On the 3rd
min Thomas Harvey collected the ball on the edge of his area and went on a
marauding run, Thomas then linked up lovely with Mahir Alam, who played
the ball back to Thomas who took a shot from just inside Bourton’s box and
managed to force a corner. Josh Herbert took the corner and as the ball
was whipped in Jack Cameron was quickest to react and headed the ball
goal ward, unfortunately it just skimmed the top of the cross bar. Shortly
afterward it was Bourton’s turn to attack and just as they had created an
opportunity to shoot at goal Colt’s Keeper, Sam Baldwin, dived bravely at
the attackers feet and smothered the ball. Unfortunately from this he
picked up a slight injury, but one squeeze of the magic sponge and he was
ready to continue in goal. Play progressed at a frantic pace with both
teams battling hard for the opening goal. Then on 13 minutes Bourton fired
a good shot that was saved superbly by a flying Sam Baldwin. Both teams
carried on carving out good chances to score but neither team could make
their opportunities count, then on the stroke of half time Josh Knibbs had
to make an excellent covering tackle to stop an almost certain goal. As
the half time whistle blew the score was 0-0.
The
2nd half started much as the 1st ended with both
teams playing some good football. Within the 1st minute Thomas
Harvey had the chance for a shot, which forced a good save from the Bouton
keeper. After some lovely football Carterton were awarded a free kick on
the left hand side, Josh Herbert fired an excellent shot towards the near
post and was very unlucky for the ball not to cross the line. Then on 10
minutes Mahir passed a lovely ball to Thomas who struck the ball cleanly
and despite the keeper getting across to make a save the ball squirmed
under the keeper’s body and it was a goal to the Colts. As play resumed
Colts kept the pressure on Bourton with some committed play. When Colts
did lose the ball and Bourton went on the attack the defence of Josh
Knibbs and Jack Cameron, assisted by Thomas Harvey and Jack Davies, dealt
confidently in getting the ball clear. After 15 minutes Jack Davies, who
had battled hard down the right wing, was replaced with Lewis Smith. The
last action of the day fell to Thomas Harvey, who on 19 minutes had the
chance to put the game beyond doubt, struck a lovely shot towards the top
left hand of the goal, but was kept out by a lovely save by the Bourton
keeper. As the final whistle blew Carterton had won the match 1-0.
The
whole team today played some of the best football of their season and
picking a Man of The Match this week would be hard for the manager,
however for the goal and some battling play Thomas Harvey was awarded the
trophy. |

Bicester Town Colts
Match report
by Craig Harvey…..Today’s football match saw Carterton Colts hosting Bicester in their 2nd
home match of the season. A lovely warm November morning greeted the
parents and players, who despite their teams current run of bad form, were
quietly optimistic about today’s match. Starting line up consisted of Sam
Baldwin as goalkeeper, Jack Cameron and Josh Knibbs in defence and making
up the midfield was Jack Davies, Josh Herbert and Thomas Harvey. Mahir
Alam was Colts lone striker.
Bicester took the kick off and straight away produced some nice passing
football, however Colts had a determined look about them, eager to prove
they could score goals and win matches and what followed did not
disappoint.
Colts
quickly got on top of their opponents and after only 2 minutes Mahir
passed to Thomas who took a shot but pulled it wide, Bicester however,
quickly threatened the Colts goal with a shot, which Sam initially saved.
The ball then came loose and Jack Cameron cleared the ball off the line.
The match soon evened up with both sides having sight of goal, but unable
to find the back of the net. After 17 minutes of play Thomas collects the
ball from inside his own half and runs down the left wing and takes a shot
at goal, which the keeper pushes wide for a corner. Josh Herbert crosses
the ball in from the left and Josh Knibbs runs in to the box, leaps and
heads home a excellent goal. Finally, Colts goal drought was ended. This
goal seemed to give Colts a renewed confidence and they pressed home their
advantage. Only 2 minutes later Thomas again picks the ball up on the left
and after a lovely jinking run cuts inside the defence and lets fly a
lovely shot, which left the keeper with no chance of a save. Half time 2 –
nil to Colts.
Second started as lively as the 1st finished. After 2 minutes
Colts were rewarded with a free kick in the centre of the field. Josh
Knibbs sends the ball in to the Bicester goal area, the defence were alert
to the danger and cleared but only as far a Josh Knibbs who puts the ball
back into the danger area. Mahir heads the ball to Thomas who was waiting
on the outside of the box. As the ball came down Thomas strikes a lovely
volley in to the back of the net. Colts then proceeded to take control of
the game and for the next few minutes managed to dictate play. After 10
minutes Josh Herbert finds himself in front of goal with the ball and
beautifully places the ball in the bottom left hand corner of the goal.
Colts were in no mood to relieve the pressure on Bicester and Jack Cameron
goes on a speculative run up the right hand side, seeing Mahir in the
clear plays a lovely ball across field to him. Mahir then produces a
lovely back heel into the path of Thomas, who was looking for his hat
trick, shoots but just brushes the right hand post. For Mahir this was
his last play of the day as the manger rings the changes. Mahir gives way
for Lewis Smith and Sam Jarvis comes on for Jack Davies. Although the
score was 4 – nil, Bicester were not about to give up and on 14 minutes
Bicester won a free kick outside the box. A Bicester player steps up and
strikes home an excellent free kick. Bicester then score another goal on
18 minutes to make the score 4 – 2. This was the last action of a very
entertaining match for Colts parents.
Thomas Harvey was awarded Man of the Match not only for his 2 well taken
goals but for the excellent all round display, especially the battling
performance he produced in defence |

Banbury Town Youth 3 v 0
CFC U 10 Colts
Match
report by Craig Harvey…..A grey, misty morning greeted Carterton Colts
this morning who were on the road again, this time to Banbury. Carterton
made one change to the team that played so well last week against Bampton
(but still somehow managed to lose) Mahir Alam who had been performing
well in the previous weeks earned himself a starting place as striker.
Could this be the change that would end Colts spell of bad luck?
Colts
got the match underway and both teams started brightly, with some good
attacking play. The 1st opportunity fell to Banbury who on 3
minutes forced a corner that was whipped in from the left. Thomas Harvey
headed the ball out but it fell to another Banbury player who shoots and
would have scored but Sam Baldwin, who was alert to the danger, saves the
shot. Both teams continued some good passing football, then on 5 minutes
Banbury create a break up the left and as the ball were crossed in, or
maybe it was a shot it was hard to decide, it sneaked passed Sam Baldwin’s
left hand post and 1-0 to Banbury. From here most of the match was hard
battling as both teams struggled to get on top of their opponents. Neither
team really got control nor although Colts pushed hard they could not seem
to create a clear chance to force the equaliser. The half ended with
Banbury a goal to the good.
As
the second half started it was clear that Banbury were not going to let
Colts into the game and for the 1st 5 mins it was all Banbury
who were showing some good attacking play, then after only 6 minutes all
the pressure told, despite some stoic defending from Jack Cameron, Banbury
went further in to the lead with another goal. Although Colts tried hard
they just could not get themselves into the match and Banbury’s ascendancy
was starting to show. After 13minutes Colts made a substitution and
Bradley Allen replaced Thomas Harvey, who had played well and created some
chances down the left wing. Despite the change Colts were still under
pressure and on 15 minutes Banbury scored again. Again Colts pressed the
Banbury defence, but they stood firm. The match ended Banbury clear
winners 3 – nil.
Although there is only one Man of the Match performance, the team as a
whole battled hard and did not give up today. Today’s Man of the Match was
Jack Cameron, for an outstanding performance in defence.
Match
report from W&DYL Web site….. Banbury Town Youth
3 Carterton Colts 0…..Outstanding football from Banbury Town, right from
the start Banbury were on top form. The pace of the match was very fast
with the ball being passed from one end of the pitch to the other.
Although Carterton were defending very well Banbury's Daniel Middleton
opened the score sheet scoring the first goal of the match with a superb
cross that found the back of the net. Shot after shot was being made by
Banbury, and some nice passing between all the players. Chay Buckingham
had a shot at goal only to be met by a save from the keeper. Daniel
Middleton in midfield was battling well making some nice tackles and some
very well read passes to players in space. Nathan Matthews in defence
along with Lewis Fuller were making some nice clearances, forcing
Carterton to work even harder. Chay Buckingham had a good header shot at
goal but again Carterton's keeper made the save. Banbury's Lewis Fuller
took a fantastic goal kick straight to Daniel Middleton who made an
excellent run up the field.
The second half saw more of the same outstanding football. Luke Wetherall
was making some good tackles and again as all the players some excellent
passes. Luke Coleman scored goal number two. Goal number three was scored
by Chay Buckingham after a nice lay off from Daniel Middleton. What a
great game of football from these under 10's very entertaining and
exciting. Well done. Man of the match for Banbury was Chay Buckingham.
Carterton man of the match was Jack Cameron, for an outstanding
performance in defence. |

Bampton Town
Match report by Craig Harvey…..Our 1st home
match of the season beckoned on a cold and grey morning, Bampton Town were
to be our opponents today. Colts team remained unchanged for the 4th
week in a row and the boys were in a buoyant mood. Colts were to get the
match underway and straight from the kick off put Bampton on the back
foot. Within the 1st minute Jack Davies got the ball back from
a throw in and crossed the ball from the right. Thomas Harvey, waiting at
the far post, headed towards goal but the ball went narrowly wide. From
here Colts exerted almost constant pressure on Bampton and had several
chances on goal. Lewis Smith found himself clear on goal, but
unfortunately shot wide of the post. Then Thomas Harvey and Lewis Smith
found themselves in a goalmouth scramble but again the ball went wide.
This seemed to be a theme of, not only this game but also the season so
far, creating good opportunities but being unable to convert their
chances. After 15 minutes disaster struck for Carterton, from a throw in
for Bampton a momentary lack of concentration in Colt’s midfield and
defence resulted in the ball breaking to Bampton’s no.7 who neatly put the
ball past goalkeeper, Sam Baldwin. Half time and Bampton were a goal to
the good.
2nd half kicked off and again the story was the
same as the 1st half, with Colts having much of the possession
and territory but goals seemed impossible to come by. Although you could
not fault the effort the Colt’s lads were putting in and the pressure they
were putting on their opponents they could not find a way to break down
Bampton’s defence, who put in a solid performance today. Then on 6 minutes
from the throw in the ball came clear to Bampton and an unfortunate error
in the Colt’s defence allowed Bampton to score again. Colts made a
substitute; Lewis Smith came off to make way for Mahir Alam, who has been
in good form recently. However, even with the change of striker, Carterton
could not do much to change the outcome of the game and it ended 2 – 0 to
Bampton Town.
Carterton’s Man of the Match was Josh Herbert for battling

Garden City 2 v 0 CFC U
10 Colts
Match
report by Craig Harvey…..On an overcast morning Carterton were away to the
league leaders Garden City. Carterton were in buoyant mood after their
excellent performance last week. The team line up was unchanged from
previous weeks and consisted of Sam Baldwin in goal, Jack Cameron and Josh
Knibbs in defence, and midfield was Jack Davies, Josh Herbert and Thomas
Harvey and Lewis Smith in the striking role.
Garden City won the toss and elected to kick off and came out straight on
the attack. It seemed Carterton were a little shell shocked by the
relentless onslaught and after only 3 minutes of play City started an
attack down the left hand side, the ball was crossed across the face of
goal and a City player latched on to the ball and struck it superbly into
the back of the net. Although a disappointment for the Colts this proved
to be the wake up call they needed and they started to up the tempo. After
some hard battling Jack Davies broke down the right and crossed the ball
to Thomas Harvey, the goalkeeper for City was off the line quickly and as
Thomas was rising for the header the goal keeper punched the ball clear.
At this point the game seemed to swing into Carterton’s favour with some
good chances. 1st was a free kick on the right, Josh Herbert lined the
free kick up and shot, the goal keeper was again alert to the danger and
saved. Then Thomas created a good chance down the left hand side and
created enough room to cross the ball to Josh Herbert who again forced a
save from the keeper. The resultant corner was crossed in and Thomas found
himself with the chance to shoot, unfortunately pulled the shot wide.
Despite this sustained pressure Colts couldn’t convert, the half ended
with city 1 - nil up.
Second half and it was Colts kick off and although Colts started strong
City had the better of the chances. On 3 minutes City created a good
chance which saw the ball go over the crossbar. Then some excellent play
down the left resulted in Sam Baldwin having to pull out a good save to
keep Carterton in the game. The game then entered a period of both teams
creating some good chances. One of these efforts saw Sam Baldwin
diving bravely at the attackers’ feet and smothering the ball which
stopped a certain goal. On 13 minutes Lewis Smith was substituted
through injury and on came Mahir Alam, who had been on good form recently.
After 15 minutes last weeks Man of the Match for the second game Sam
Jarvis came on for Thomas Harvey, who had done some good work down the
left, to see if he could find the elusive goal for Carterton. The best
chance of the half fell to City who struck the crossbar. Then on 19
minutes disaster struck for Carterton. City managed to force a corner,
which was whipped in from the left and found a City head, who directed it
into the back of the goal. This was the final action of the half and the
result was 2 - nil to Garden City. Although this will go down as a
loss, all the boys should be rightly proud of their performances against
the team at the top of the league and on any other day some of the chances
they had should have found the back of the net. Man of the Match today was
Josh Herbert for the way he battled hard in midfield and created some good
scoring opportunities. |

Deddington Colts 1 v 1 CFC
U 10 Colts
Match
report by Craig Harvey…..For Carterton Colts another morning of football
beckoned. Today’s match was away to Deddington Colts. The sky was overcast
but pleasantly mild and the pitch was in fine form, a perfect recipe for
some good football and what followed did not disappoint. Carterton started
the match with their usual line up of Sam Baldwin in goal with Josh Knibbs
and Jack Cameron, who are starting to create a good partnership in defence,
playing off them would be Josh Herbert in midfield and Thomas Harvey and
Jack Davies on the left and right respectively and Carterton’s target man
was Lewis Smith.
The
game started with Carterton winning the toss and electing to kick off. The
match started with a ferocity not often seen by Carterton followers.
Players on both sides instantly wanting to make their mark on the game.
Neither team managed to get the upper hand through the early exchanges,
but that just made for a more exciting match. Eventually Carterton started
to have a little bit more of the attacking opportunities with a good move
started by Josh Knibbs in defence who played the ball to Josh Herbert,
Josh ran with the ball and placed a pass through to Lewis who shot but
went wide for a corner. Josh Herbert, took the corner but was cleared by
Deddington’s defence, who throughout this match produced some good solid
play. More attacking play was soon to follow and after about 8 minutes
Lewis who was placed through the middle had a shot on goal the Deddington
keeper did well to push the ball clear of the initial danger, but Thomas
Harvey who drifted in from the left wing followed up on the loose ball and
despite striking the ball with his unfavoured right foot slotted the ball
home to open the scoring. Deddington came straight out from the kick off
on the attack, however some excellent battling from our defensive duo
assisted superbly by Jack Davies, who can only be described as a midfield
dynamo. His tireless efforts in tracking back and sometimes being the last
man in defence rightly earned him Man of the Match for Carterton. The half
ended 1 - 0 to Carterton.
Second half kicked off with a mirror of the 1st half. Both
teams battling hard and at times producing some lovely passing football.
Deddington had some good chances early on, however they found themselves
unable to convert their early chances mainly due to the excellent
defensive efforts of the Colts. The efforts that the whole team were
producing were surely pleasing to all the parents watching with their
heart in their mouths and hands over their eyes. After 5 minutes of some
good constructive football by Deddington they managed to force a corner.
The ball was whipped in and a Deddington head directed the ball goal ward.
Sam Baldwin, who up to this point had very little to do made a good save
but the ball, came loose and Deddington pounced upon the ball and scored.
With the score now 1 - 1 the intensity of the match seemed to quadruple as
both teams came out for the vital winner. In the last minutes the tension
for both sets of spectators was etched upon every body’s faces. Within the
last 5 minutes chances fell to both teams with Carterton having two
chances the 1st falling to Josh Knibbs. He found himself on the
edge of the box with the ball coming towards him. Josh took aim but
although the shot was on target the ball started rising and went over the
crossbar. The 2nd chance came to Josh Herbert who after making
a good run found himself on goal and stuck the ball goal wards, again the
ball started rising and virtually shaved the top of the cross bar. In the
final minute of the match Deddington had chance to steal the game with a
frantic goal mouth scramble but Carterton managed somehow to get the ball
clear. Full time 1 - 1. A fantastic game of football and all credit should
be given to both teams for their efforts and I for one can not wait for
the return fixture. |

Charlton & District 1 v 0
CFC U 10 Colts
Match
report by Craig Harvey…..Saturday morning and another football match
beckons. The sky was clear blue with not a cloud in sight; it was a
perfect day for football. Carterton Colts were away to Charlton &
District. The match started with a now familiar line up Sam Baldwin in
goal with Josh Knibbs and Jack Cameron the stalwarts in defence, playing
off them would be Josh Herbert in midfield and Thomas Harvey and Jack
Davies on the left and right respectively and Carterton’s target man was
Lewis Smith.
The
match started very well with Carterton playing very strongly from the
first whistle. The first five minutes and Carterton’s manager, John
Herbert, must have been very pleased with what he saw, as the whole team
were putting into practice what had been taught in the many training
sessions leading up to the start of the season. The fluidity of the
passing was surely a joy to watch for the Carterton parents. Charlton had
absorbed some good pressure from Carterton who had many chances with shots
from Josh Herbert and Thomas Harvey and after the first five minutes
Charlton slowly started to claw their way back in to the match which had
been one way traffic till now. After eight minutes Charlton forced a
corner from a save from Carterton’s goal keeper Sam Baldwin. As the ball
was whipped in Thomas Harvey showed some good defending with a strong
header out. Both teams now started to play some good committed football,
both teams had many opportunities to take the lead but neither could
convert their chances. At Half time the scored remained 0 - 0.
As
the second half kicked off Charlton came out and had the ascendancy over
Carterton. They appeared to have just a little bit more spirit and
determination than their rivals. The second half soon settled down to
mirror the first with some strong defending and running from both Jack
Cameron and Josh Knibbs. After about 10 minutes of some competitive
football with neither team allowing the other any clear chances on goal,
Charlton crossed the ball from the left hand side, which was received by a
Charlton player who had a shot on goal, Sam Baldwin initially made a good
save from the shot but it came loose from his grasp and Charlton scored.
From the restart Carterton were desperately trying to win a goal but
despite some determined efforts from Lewis Smith, who was a constant thorn
in Charlton’s defence, they failed to convert their chances. Carterton
then made a substitution Jack Davies, who had been tireless down the right
wing and had created some good opportunities; Mahir Alam came on as his
replacement. Despite the fresh legs and the fraught parents cheering on
their team Carterton were unable to create a goal scoring opportunity.
Charlton took the win 1 - 0 over Carterton.
Despite playing at times some very good football Carterton had to settle
for a loss, however one player should be proud of the way he played today
and that was Jack Cameron, who never gave up battling for the ball and was
tireless in bringing the ball out of defence, his passing today was also
outstanding, a well deserved Man Of The Match performance.
Match
report from W&DYL Web site…..Charlton & District
1 Carterton Colts 0…..On a bright sunny morning Charlton opened their A
League account with a narrow win over a Carterton side that made them work
all the way.
Right from the outset it was clear that these two sides were closely
matched and clear cut chances were hard to come by. Carterton had the
first real chance but Charlton's George Grieve was on hand to clear the
goal bound shot. At the other end Daniel McLean tested Carterton's keeper,
Sam Baldwin, and James Mendham tried his luck but his shot was wide.
The second half started in much the same way until Charlton put together a
move that brought the decisive goal. Rhys Hamblett found Mendham who set
McLean away for a well hit shot. Baldwin parried but Hamblett had
continued his run and coolly slotted home the loose ball. Carterton tried
to respond and pressed hard in their efforts to find an equaliser. However
they found Charlton's defence of Grieve, Daniel Fowler, Kyle Bennett and
later substitute, Mali Minchin, playing well as a unit and with good
support from the midfield they were unable to find the telling shot.
Charlton also created further chances with runs and shots from McLean and
a great header, which went narrowly wide, by Mendham from Hamblett's
cross.
A very enjoyable game - well done to all players for contributing and
competing right to the end despite a difficult, hard pitch and increasing
heat.
Despite playing at times some very good football Carterton had to settle
for a loss, however one player should be proud of the way he played today
and that was Jack Cameron, who never gave up battling for the ball and was
tireless in bringing the ball out of defence, his passing today was also

10 Colts 1 v 0 Tower Hill
Match report by John Herbert…..The first game of the season kicked off at
a sunny Monahan Way. It was clear from the start that both teams were
determined to stamp their authority on the game, in what has been a close
rivalry over the past 3 seasons. The first chance of the match fell to
Tower Hill, which was put over the bar. Carterton began to get a foot hold
in the game and Josh Herbert came close to opening the scoring when his
shot from the edge of the box went narrowly wide. Carterton took the lead
when the ball was played into the Tower Hill penalty area and their
defenders clearance was blocked by Thomas Harvey and looped up and over
the keeper into the net, 1-0 to Carterton.
The second half started in the same fashion as the first, but Carterton
started to create the better chances and nearly doubled their lead when
Man of the Match Thomas Harvey hit the post from a corner. Lewis Smith
came close on two occasions to extending Carterton's lead when he hit the
post and put his shot narrowly wide when one on one with the Tower Hill
keeper. Carterton worked extremely hard and defended well as a team,
running out deserved winners in a close and hard fought game |

match report by Neil Godfrey.
With both teams
playing their final games of the season each team wanted to finish on a
high.
Carterton were quickest out
of the traps with Dan Bott and Roy O’Neil scoring early on. The Carterton
midfield was battling well and soon doubled their lead through Karl Smith
and Rory O’Neil.
Bardwell continued to battle
but found no way past Chris Mcdonald. Dan Eales added to the score allowing
Carterton a 5-0 half time lead.
With some determined play
and good passing Carterton came out where they left off, however is was
Bardwell who made the most of a counter attack, with a well taken goal form
Kyle Brooks.
The Carterton defence were
not having much of that and turned defence into attack with roaming left
back Bradley Wright making it 6 with a delicate lob over the keeper.
Two more goals from Dan Bott
and Rory O’Neil completing his hatrick finished off a rewarding day for
Carterton. |

Combe Junior 2 v 1 CFC U 11
Match
report by Steve Wright…..After a disappointing couple of weeks, we came up
against the free scoring Combe side who have only conceded 8 goals in 16
games this season. On a superb pitch and with an excellent league appointed
referee and honest linesmen, we kicked off with a changed line up compared
to normal and it was proving to be very successful for the early periods.
Although Combe had the vast amount of possession, they were achieving very
little and it was Carterton that nearly broke the deadlock when Tiago Lopes'
scuffed shot brushed the post.
With the wind behind them though, Combe broke well and a fizzing shot was
well saved by the Carterton keeper, only to have it kicked out of his hands
and the goal awarded. This was a harsh decision and for a short period our
heads dropped, but some superb defending from all of our back four and some
great goal keeping, kept us in the game as the half time whistle blew.
The second half was a brilliant encounter for all spectators, as we gave it
everything we had to get back on level terms. We threw caution to the wind
at times and were left exposed on several occasions, but we really tested
Combe and on another day we may well of been rewarded. Karl Smith had a
shot come back off the post, Danny Bott had a great effort well saved and
Rory O'Neil just missed with a great effort, but if you don't take your
chances you get punished and that is what happened here. A fantastic
passing move by Combe resulted in a great finish and they were rampant at 2
v 0. We stood firm though and never gave up, being duly rewarded when Rory
O'Neil whipped over a great cross for Danny Bott to control and Ben Wright
finish with some ease. We gave it everything in the last five minutes but
just couldn't break them down. All credit to Combe though, they are a very
good side, who are extremely hard working for each other but we stood toe to
toe with them for long periods of this game. They are rightly above us in
the league, as their fair, honest and composed football is rewarded and
rightly so. The Carterton boys did themselves proud today and deserved all
the praise they got at the final whistle. |

CFC U 11 1 v 5 chipping
Norton Town Swifts
Match
report by Steve Wright…..Football is a game of two halves and oh how
different they can be. When we played Chippie away from home, it was 0 v 0
at half time and for most of the second half, before we got hammered 5 v 0.
Today it was very similar, when we went in at half time level at 1 v 1.
With the wind behind us we started well and had the majority of the
possession, but Chippies keeper has a good set of hands and we were finding
it hard to beat him. As the half progressed, Chippie came back in to the
game and a speculative ball over the top was met well by there pacey striker
who finished well to take the lead. We kept going and were knocking on the
door, but just couldn't get that clear break, until and bad tackle on Karl
Smith, saw us rewarded with a free kick out wide and some 25 yards from
goal. Up stepped Danny Bott to float over a great ball that beat there
keeper to make it 1 v 1. Right on the stroke of half time we had our best
move of the match, with a neat inter-change of passes down the left,
between Bradley Wright and Danny Bott, which saw a peach of a cross that Ben
Wright met on the volley only for Chippies keeper to pull off a superb
save.
Oh what a different second half it was though !!!! We were camped in our
own half for long periods due to the wind and by not helping ourselves due
to a lack of composure and ability on the ball at times, which
allowed Chippie take us to the cleaners. We got what we deserved in the end
as Chippie bagged four more goals in the last ten minutes to comfortably
walk away victorious. They had a greater hunger in the second period of the
match and worked tirelessly for each other. Something we must do if we wish
to progress. Well done Chippie, you deserve to be up there. |

Chasewell Park 2 v 3 CFC U
11
Match
report by Steve Wright…..After the disappointment of last week, we ventured
over to Banbury with the bear eleven and much weakened team to take on the
hardworking Chasewell Park. A very blustery morning saw us kick off with
the wind behind us and the advantage of playing down the slope. It all
looked very positive when an early Rory O'Neil strike rattled the bar and a
Tiago Lopes shot went just wide moments later. With their first venture up
field though, Chasewell took the lead with their pacey winger making a great
run and finishing with a superb chip over the advancing Chris MacDonald who
had no chance. We piled on the pressure though and just moments later we
were awarded a penalty for a very cynical challenge on Danny Bott. He
lifted himself off the floor and his ever reliable shooting boots failed
him for once as he put his effort wide. We never gave up though and were
rewarded moments later when a great run and shot after a neat pass by Will
Partlett saw Rory O'Neil get his name on the score sheet. It was all
Carterton at this point and with our very next attack another awful
challenge in the box saw Danny Bott bury the resulting penalty. The wind
was playing a major part in the game now and Chasewell were finding it hard
to get in our half as we piled forward in search of a third. It wasn't to
long in coming either, when a sweet in-swinging free kick from Danny Bott
was poked in by Bradley Wright before it crossed the line. This was just
the lead we needed as the half time whistle blew, because the wind had
picked up to gale force by the time the second half began. It really was
heavy going for the lads now and the weather was playing a massive part in
the game. Chasewell battled well and were rewarded with a great goal from a
corner as they pushed us back for most of the second period. We had a few
good chances in the second half, with both Rory & Danny having good
opportunities, but with a wind as strong as this it was real hard going for
us playing up hill and in to it. We hung on at the end to claim all three
points, but this was a close encounter and one we just about did enough to
win. Well done boys. |

CFC U 11 2 v 3 CFC U 11
Colts
Match
report by Steve Wright…..Our local derby on a frosty morning at Monahan Way
proved to be as explosive as our previous encounter when a poor refereeing
robbed us of all three points. The same can not be said this time as Danny
McDonough had the whistle and did a sterling job. That aside, we started the
brighter and had Colts on the back foot from the off. Several times their
keeper was at 'sixes and sevens' and only solid defending in front of him
kept us out, in particular their Captain who kept us at bay all day with a
superb performance. It wasn't long though before Colts had their
first chance and a cracking shot from the edge of the box, came back off the
bar only for Chris MacDonald to spill it and Will Hayes slot the ball in the
back of the net. Again Carterton FC continued to play the better football
and a great ball from Jeremy Kirby split the tight Colts defence, Ben
Wright delivered a great cross which Danny Bott hit at the Colts keeper who
was all over the shop and the ball bounced out for Bradley Wright to slot
home for his first of the season. As the players celebrated and were back
in position for the re-start, an amazing off-side decision was given about a
minute later and the goal disallowed. Where the linesman (or was it his Dad
?) got the decision from, we will never know, but it was a very peculiar
decision that the cynics amongst found hard to stomach !! Moments later it
got even worse, when Daniel Frost broke free and finished well to extended
the Colts lead. We continued to work hard though and the dogged defence
of the Colts were holding tight, but a great through ball from Karl Smith
saw Ben Wright finish clinically for us to go in 2 v 1 down at half-time.
The second half kicked off and again we were playing the better football and
were rightly rewarded when Danny Bott latched on to a neat through ball to
level the scores at 2 v 2.
It was end to end stuff now without either team really peppering the other
ones goal, but football is all about goals and it was Colts who grabbed the
winner through a neat run and shot by Keir Campbell. The game finished with
Colts coming out on top 3 v 2 and we wish them the best of luck for the
remainder of the season. |

KO Cup 4th round
…..Tower Hill 7 v 2 Cfc U 11
Match report by Steve Wright…..Carterton
U11's KO Cup run, came to a very abrupt end this morning against a strong
'A' League team in Tower Hill.
There are days as a manager that you can sense that the boys aren't up for
it and unfortunately this was one of them. Within five minutes we were 2 v 0
down and really on the back foot. Tower Hill are not in the top division
for nothing and they showed it early on. Neat passing, keeping possession
and closing us down was the name of their game and we just couldn't cope.
Chris MacDonald between the sticks was had a torrid time, seeming
overwhelmed by just how busy he was being kept. With the score at 2 v 0, I
really did fear the worst as we just couldn't string two passes together,
but after a long run down the left, Tiago Lopes cut inside and beat their
keeper with a good finish. Our heads lifted and we stepped up the tempo,
clearly playing the better football at this point. Tower Hill were at sixes
and sevens at the back, but we just couldn't find that killer pass or shot
to break them down. Right on the stroke of half time though, they bagged
another, with Chris MacDonald letting himself down.
The second half was much better to start with from us and we worked
extremely hard without getting many clear opening's and a lapse in
concentration saw Tower Hill extend their lead even further to 4 v 1.
Credit to the boys though, they stuck to the cause and our best move of the
game was rewarded with a goal. From one end of the pitch to the other we
passed to feet, with Rory O'Neil delivering the final ball for Danny Bott to
finish. At 4 v 2 we once again looked to better team, but couldn't find
that consistency to break Tower Hill down. They are a hard working team who
kept going and soon after extended their lead. Our heads dropped and our
battling spirit collapsed with Tower Hill running amok, bagging two more
goals and even missing a penalty. Chris MacDonald made up for his errors
with some great saves, but it was ultimately to much to late. All told not
our best performance of the season, but in the end the better team won
comfortably. We have a lot of improving to do if we ever want to compete in
the 'A' League that for sure ! |

Bicester Town Colts 5 v 2v
CFC U 11
Match
report by Steve Wright….On a freezing cold morning on a frosty playing
surface, a very strong Bicester Colts team who beat the league leaders
Deddington last time out, proved once again that they are a very hard
working side who ran out worthy winners in this game.
From the kick off we were under pressure and eventually conceded after 10
minutes to a soft goal that our keeper should have done better with. That
was our wake up call and moments later, with a good interchange of play down
the left, Danny Bott sneaked in a equaliser after a goal keeping blunder at
the other end. The game was free flowing at this point, but we don't learn
from our mistakes and gave Bicester far to much time on the ball, ultimately
getting punished by a long strike that fizzed in to the roof of the net. We
were somewhat fortunate to go in only 2 v 1 down at half time, with Chris
MacDonald making one superb save to keep us in it.
A rocket from myself at half time seemed to inspire the lads and we came out
of the blocks well and flew at Bicester at the start of the second half. A
great ball from Jeremy Kirby saw Rory O'Neil break free and bury the
equaliser. It was all Carterton now and we really were playing some great
passing football. A lovely ball down the left flank saw Tiago Lopes clear
two defenders and release Rory O'Neil, his superb cross just needed a touch,
but unfortunately Josh Lee arrived a second to late to bury it in the empty
net. From the resulting goal kick Bicester broke clear and easily lobbed
the advancing Chris MacDonald to take the lead. We continued to battle hard
with Tiago Lopes clearing the bar with goal at his mercy and Bradley Wright
finding the side netting with a header from a deep corner. It just wasn't
happening for Carterton though and shortly after Bicester extended their
lead with two quick fire goals which killed us off. The lads had 20 minutes
of great football today but must quickly learn to play for the whole game or
these results will become a familiar sight. Credit to Bicester, they are a
strong and physical side, with several very talented young lads who fully
deserved their victory. |

KO cup 3rd Rd…..Marsh
Gibbon 2 v 4 CFC U 11
Match
report by Steve Wright…..A long drive for this away fixture in the 3rd Round
of the KO Cup saw us drawn against Marsh Gibbon. On a blustery morning, in
glorious sunshine, we kicked off in to the wind and immediately found the
going very tuff against a very competitive opposition on this small pitch
which hampered our style of play. We also had a re-jigged set-up which
didn't help, as we were without the influential Andy Rhodes & Will Parsons
at the back, who both were unavailable for this Cup clash.
With the wind behind them, Marsh Gibbon started the better and took an early
lead with a neat finish from their towering centre forward who brushed aside
several challenges to comfortably beat Chris MacDonald between our sticks.
We huffed and we puffed but didn't create any clear cut chances and from
nowhere, Marsh Gibbon extended their lead. With the wind behind him, their
midfield dynamo took a speculative lob from some thirty yards out and it
dropped right over Chris and in to the back of the net for 2 v 0. Oh dear
me, this was going to be a real struggle now !!!!
We continued to battle well and as the clock approached half time a cynical
challenge on Rory O'Neil saw us awarded a free kick on the angle of the 18
yard box. Up stepped Danny Bott to thrash the ball in to the 'onion bag' in
some style. This really was a top draw finish for U11's football and he
thoroughly deserved the applause from both sets of parents. With our tails
up, we flew at Marsh Gibbon and right on half time we grabbed an equaliser.
Danny Bott mistimed a shot from a deep Rory O'Neil cross, but the ball fell
at the feet of Tiago Lopes who smashed the ball passed the advancing Marsh
Gibbon keeper. The lads were really up for it now and the second half
couldn't start soon enough. Within minutes of the restart, a mix up in the
Marsh Gibbon defence saw Rory O'Neil force the ball over the line for us to
celebrate again, going 3 v 2 to the good. Some tough tackling ensued, but
Carterton were up for the fight and came out on top.
Credit to Marsh Gibbon, they fought well and this great Cup match was end to
end now. Chris MacDonald and the back four kept Marsh Gibbon at bay though
and as the clocked ticked down, Rory O'Neil took the ball from one end of
the pitch to the other, past four players and finished with some aplomb.
This was a fantastic goal to top off a cracking Carterton come back against
a team who's lowly league position belies their quality. Marsh Gibbon have
some very good players indeed and a goal keeper who is top draw at this
level and they really gave us a run for our money. A smashing match and
some superb individual performances, especially from Jeremy Kirby and Chris
Godfrey at the heart of our defence. We look forward to meeting our old
enemies Tower Hill in the next round. |

CFC U 11 1 v 1 Eynsham
Match
report by Steve Wright…..On a great pitch considering the recent weather,
Carterton blew their chance to close the gap on the 'top teams' in the
league by under performing against lowly Eynsham.
With a strong wind behind them Carterton started very brightly and on two
minutes took the lead, when a superb through ball from Jeremy Kirby allowed
Rory O'Neil to spring the offside trap and lob the advancing Eynsham keeper,
giving Carterton a 1 v 0 lead. Our tails were up and it looked like this
could have been an easy win, but all credit to Eynsham, they dug in and
battled hard and never really gave us another clear cut chance for the rest
of the first half. The two central defenders for Eynsham played out of
their skins, working hard for each other and their team, never once letting
the Carterton goal machine that is 'Danny Bott' have a sniff. As time
pushed on towards half time, Chris McDonald in the Carterton net had not
touched the ball, but possession counts for nothing in football if you don't
score and moments later the half time whistle blew, with Eynsham looking
tired.
Oh what a difference a half time makes and the wind behind you in the second
half. Eynsham threw everything forward and they fully deserved their
equaliser after a mix up in the Carterton defence, saw Chris Godfrey put
through his own net after a bad call from his keeper. Eynsham had their
tails up now and really came at Carterton, but we held out, never really
producing anything of sorts ourselves, until right at the death when we
should have won the match, when Tiago Lopes missed a glorious opportunity
with the whole goal at his mercy but his effort went wide from six yards.
It would have been very cruel indeed though on Eynsham had it gone in and
Carterton took all three points, as Eynsham fully deserved their point from
this hard fought encounter. |

Wychwood 1 v 9 CFC U 11
Match
report by Steve Wright…..After the long festive break, Carterton U11's hit
back in spectacular fashion against lowly Wychwood on a boggy pitch this
morning. Within the first minute we took the lead with Rory O'Neil breaking
free to finish clinically whilst one on one with the Wychwood keeper. The
tempo was set and some more good inter-play saw us extend our leaded soon
after with Tiago Lopes tapping in after a neat pass and move down the right
wing. With Wychwood just unable to break us down at the back, we piled
forward in numbers grabbing three more goals before the break, the pick of
which was a cracking effort from Karl Smith from 18 yards. Changes were
made in the first half allowing Josh Lee and Will Partlett an extended run
out and they did themselves proud, Will just missing with a neat header
early in the second half and the returning Josh working tirelessly up and
down the left flank. The goals continued to flow in the second half though,
with Rory O'Neil eventually grabbing four, Danny Bott two, Karl Smith two
and Tiago Lopes one. We conceded a late goal for the match to finish 9 v 1,
but had our finishing been more clinical, this really could have been a
cricket score. Well done lads. |

Bampton Town 2 v 10 Carterton
Match report by Steve Wright…..Oh
what a difference a week makes !!!!! On a chilly morning on a great pitch
for this time of year in Bampton, a weakened Carterton team with the bare 11
players, really turned on the style to blow Bampton away. The boys new they
owed us a performance and they came out of the blocks well today. The first
five minutes was all Carterton pressure and a rash tackle in the Bampton box
saw Danny Bott step up to clinically finish from the spot. Moments later
the electric pace of Rory O'Neil skinned the Bampton back four then he beat
the advancing keeper and tapped in from two yards. We were playing some
lovely passing football and were dominating the game, but credit to Bampton,
with their first real attack they scored. At 2 v 1, we sat back and allowed
Bampton to play, until we regained our shape and started passing again. Our
re-jigged line up found Danny Bott in midfield for this match and it was his
lovely through ball in to Tiago Lopes that had the Bampton defence stretched
and a cynical foul bought our second penalty and 'Bottys' second
goal. Right on the stroke of half time we grabbed another with a great turn
and finish by Rory O'Neil to go in 4 v 1 up.
The second half saw Bampton's 'roof fall in' as we piled forward, with Danny
Bott grabbing two more, Rory O'Neil another one, Ben Wright tapping in two
and Jeremy Kirby finishing a superb move with a thunderous finish. Bampton
grabbed a late consolation with the best goal of the day, a superb 25 yard
strike that flew in to the net, but it was too little too late for Bampton,
who were well beaten by this stage. This was just what we needed after last
week and the lads deserved all three points. Well done boys, both Neil and
I were chuffed to bits with today's display, you thoroughly deserved it.

CFC U 11 1 v 4Hook Norton
Match report by Steve
Wright…..On an atrocious days weather at Monahan Way, Carterton U11's got
hit very early by an ever improving Hook Norton side who are moving up the
league well. Hooky are a very one dimensional team who play to the
strengths of their big and strong centre forward and we were punished within
the first minute when he jumped free in the box to bury a glorious header in
to the roof of the net. Within a matter minutes he was free in the box and
an mis-timed challenge by Tiago Lopes conceded a penalty. A thunderous shot
from the spot gave Chris MacDonald in the Carterton net no chance and we
were now 2 v 0 down with less than five minutes on the clock. It was now
pouring down with rain, freezing cold and an awful biting wind blowing and
the lads were finding it hard to get motivated. We huffed and we puffed,
chipping away at the Hooky defence, without really testing their keeper. We
had the lions share of possession but just couldn't pull that all important
goal back. The second half began very much as the first had, with Hook
Norton punishing us with some sloppy defending and at 3 v 0 there was only
going to be one winner. Again we tried and we tried and never gave up, but
we just couldn't find a way through a very stubborn Hooky defence and sound
goal keeper. As the clocked ticked down, we pushed on, but a glorious
passing move saw us punished again as Hook Norton stretched their lead to 4
v 0. We never gave up and on the break Karl Smith grabbed us a consolation
goal on full time. This was an awful day to play football and the lads gave
their all, but we well beaten by a good, solid and hard working Hook
Norton team. Well done Hooky ! |

Eynsham Youth 1 v 7 CFC U 11
Match report by…..Steve
Wright …..Back to League after our heroics last week in the Cup, saw us take
on mid-table Eynsham Youth. On a very soggy pitch, Carterton were down to
the bare bones with just eleven available players, but the character shown
by some of the non-regulars was excellent and led by 'Mr Reliable' Captain
Chris, the lads were really up for this one. From the kick off, both
teams were entrenched in a midfield battle that saw Carterton come out on
top. A lovely passing move through the Eynsham defence, saw Tiago Lopes
latch on to a Will Partlett pass and burying his shot in the bottom left
corner. Moments later, Ben Wright split the Eynsham defence in two, for the
goal machine that is Danny Bott, to get his first of the afternoon with a
low drive.
The game was end to end for the next twenty minutes, but Eynsham never
really had the composure in front of goal to punish us and just at the right
time came goal number three. Ben Wright who had been instrumental in all
that we were doing well, got his just rewards when a Tiago Lopes cross fell
at his feet and he finished clinically. At this point it was all Carterton
and eventually Will Partlett found his shooting boots to make it 4 v 0.
Eynsham never gave up though and great run and cross down our right, saw a
deep cross finished well as the Carterton defenders appealed for offside.
This goal gave Eynsham a real lift as the half time whistle blew. At 4 v 1
this game was far from over and Eynsham really came out of the traps well
second half, with the wind behind them. The Carterton back four withstood a
great deal of pressure but Chris MacDonald's safe hands were rarely tested.
It was during another prolonged period of Eynsham pressure that Carterton
broke up field with 10 minutes to go to grab number five. A lovely jinking
run from Danny Bott finished with some aplomb. Moments later we extended our
lead even further with a great effort by Karl Smith and to top the day off
Rory O'Neil, who works tirelessly for the team, bagged the seventh with a
great finish from a superb Ben Wright through ball. This was a
better passing game from Carterton that is bearing fruit from training and
the lads deserved the three points. A special mention must go to the ref,
as when he arrived we all thought "here we go again" after the shocker he
had during our derby match versus Colts, clearly robbing us of two points,
but all credit to him, he had a much better match. Final score: EYNSHAM
YOUTH 1 v 7 CARTERTON FC Onwards and upwards we go !
On a more important note,
Carterton U11's would like to wish Matty Lee a very speedy recovery, we're
all thinking of you buddy. Get well soon mate. |

KO Cup…..CFC U 11 11 (eleven) v 0 Freeland
Match report by Steve
Wright…..After the disappointment of last weeks second half debacle at
Chipping Norton, Carterton U11's hit back in spectacular fashion versus
Freeland in the KO Cup.
After a late pitch inspection on a frosty morning at Monahan Way, the game
kicked off on time at 1030. By 1032 it was 2 v 0 to Carterton and it was
clear this was going to be a rout if the lads kept up this level of
commitment. Both Rory O'Neil and Danny Bott found their shooting boots and
in spectacular fashion they both bagged four goals each by the final
whistle. Freeland where brushed aside in the first five minutes when
Carterton flew out of the blocks and went for the jugular. At 2 v 0 up,
Kieran Colwell in the Freeland defence unfortunately clipped a goal bound
effort in to his own net, wrong footing his own keeper. At 3 v 0 the
Freeland heads dropped and Carterton just kept going for the duration of the
game. Will Partlett and Tiago Lopes chipped in with one each, but Ben
Wright, Karl Smith, Bradley Wright and Dan Eeles could all have been on the
score sheet had they shown a little more composure. Their was some great
football played by Carterton and this was a well deserved win. Final

Chipping Norton Town Swifts 5 v 0v CFC U 11
Match report by Steve
Wright…..At the end of this match the Chipping Norton Swift manager said to
me..."I didn't expect that mate, I can tell you". Well I tell you
what.....neither did I, as the 'roof fell in' during 30 minutes of dire
football!
This was a superb encounter for the first 30 minutes with Carterton having
the better chances and just shaving the possession over a Chippie side
sitting just above us in the League. This really was our chance to impose
ourselves on the League Table and go second if other results went in our
favour and at half time things were looking very positive. With the score
sat at 0 v 0 all present could see that the first goal was crucial. Rory
O'Neill & Danny Bott both had great chances for us to take the lead, but
Chippies keeper, who is the best we have come across this season, would not
be beaten.
What a difference the second half was though. We started the better, but a
deep Chippie defence just couldn't be broken and during one of their
speculative breaks we conceded.....that was it.....heads dropped and the
rout began....From every attack onwards Chippie looked like scoring,
breaking us down four further times. Defensive and goalkeeping errors
apart, this was a poor 30 minutes against a Chippie side that just kept on
battling, whilst we looked tired and defeated as soon as the first goal went
in.
No excuses, the ref was great and we had a lack luster second half.
As I said at the
start...I didn't expect that....Chipping

CFC U 11 6 v 3 Chasewell Park
Match report by Steve
Wright….A cold and blustery morning a Monahan Way saw a superb encounter.
With the wind behind them, Carterton U11's came out of the blocks like 'Lynford
Christie'...It was 2 v 0 within the first three minutes after a great run
and finish by Danny Bott and a tap in by Tiago Lopes. This had all the
signs of a rout, and Carterton piled on the pressure. Reece Harper in the
Chasewell goal, was having a blinder, keeping shot after shot out with some
inspired goalkeeping as balls rained in on his goal. The strong and
powerful Brandon Richardson went off injured which seemed to lose Chasewell
any chance they had had to redeem themselves. It wasn't long after that
Carterton extended their lead, when Karl Smith powered through form the
centre of midfield to give Carterton a three goal advantage by half time.
The start of the second half was very similar to the first and the goal
machine that is Danny Bott, extended our lead with a superb twenty yard
strike. The changes were made as the three points looked secure, but credit
to Chasewell, they never gave up, catching Carterton with a long range
effort that left the stranded Chris MacDonald no hope. At 4 v 1, Carterton
pushed on, with super sub Josh Lee grabbing himself another goal and Danny
Bott rounding off a great hat-trick with some aplomb. 6 v 1 to Carterton
and the game was over, more substitutions were made which unsettled the team
and Chasewell came storming back with two very quick fire goals. This was a
very good performance by Carterton, with Ben Wright, Karl Smith and Jeremy
Kirby all giving great accounts of themselves in midfield. |

CFC U 11 Colts 2 v 2 CFC U 11
Match report by Steve
Wright…..On a lovely sunny Autumn morning at Kilkenny Lane, Carterton U11's
took on their club rivals Carterton Colts in this U11's League match. This
was a beautiful day for football and the Chairman must be thanked for
letting us play on our 'home' turf for the BIG match.
The matched kicked off with Carterton fielding there strongest line-up
possible, but they were soon on the back foot and came under some tough
pressure for the first ten minutes, when Colts seemed to be camped in our
half. Although the Colts had come out of the blocks the quickest, they just
couldn't find a way through the resolute back four of Carterton. As the
half wore on, it was clear this was going to be a close contest as there was
nothing between the two sides. Colts keeper Olly Grove parried a few half
chances from Rory O'Neil, whilst Chris MacDonald was kept busy at the other
end with some long range efforts, but for large portions of the match it was
a midfield battle that neither team won. As the half drew to a close, both
teams battled hard but no real clear cut chances could break the deadlock
and 22 tired boys trapsed off for a well earn't rest.
A pumped up Carterton dressing room came out for the second half though
raring to go and it was not long before Rory O'Neill eventually found his
shooting boots. A neat inter-change of passes between Danny Bott and Jeremy
Kirby, saw a loose ball fall to Rory who buried his finish past the new
Colts keeper. It was all Carterton now and chance after chance went
begging, but credit to Colts they never gave up and as the clocked ticked
down an unfortunate slip by Mr Dependable Captain Chris, saw William Hayes
slip in and finish with some style past the stranded Chris MacDonald in the
Carterton goal. A betting man would have put his money on 1 v 1 being the
final score at this point in the game, but it just goes to prove that
gambling is a waste of money. With five minutes to go the injured Tiago
Lopes came off, to be replaced by Josh Lee in left midfield. Seconds later
a neat pass down the line from Bradley Wright, saw Danny Bott swing over a
deep cross that was missed by everyone, Rory O'Neil never gave up the chase
though and fizzed over a cross come shot that was parried by the Colts
keeper, only to fall at the feet of Josh Lee who buried the finish. This
was party time for Carterton U11's spectators and with just minutes to go
and leading 2 v 1 surely the Colts couldn't come back again.
Oh dear oh dear oh dear.. How wrong could I be. Lady luck plays a massive
part in football and so do the Officials, so what a 'travesty of justice'
that both should let us down at the same time. The league appointed referee
who had been excellent to that point, allowed Max Davison who was clearly
two yards off
side, run free on goal to clinch a last gasp equaliser for the Colts.
Spleins were vented and crossed words were said, but the referee allowed the
goal to stand and the match finished 2 v 2 just moments later.
At this point I must give a mention to 'Big Tony' Manager of Carterton
Colts, who immediately came over and consoled my disconsolate team by
admitting that the better team on the day had been robbed ! (Cheers Tony, it
meant allot). The U11's had fought hard throughout, played the better
football, had the better chances and were ultimately robbed by a shocking
refereeing decision that so many impartial spectators had seen and could not
believe, but eh, that's football and life goes on !!! Great credit to
Carterton Colts for their never say die attitude and best of luck for the

Hook Norton 3 v 3 CFC U 11
Match report by Steve
Wright…..A damp and drizzly morning at Hook Norton, saw Carterton U11's take
on Hook Norton in a re-arranged fixture. This was always going to be a big
test for Carterton without the influential Connor Peacock at the back and
the pace and goal scoring ability of Rory O'Neill up front.
An open game and free flowing for the first ten minutes saw Carterton have
no less than five clear cut scoring opportunities, but we failed to convert
any of them. If you don't score you eventually get punished and that is
exactly what happened here. Hook Norton broke up field with their very direct
style of football and beat Chris MacDonald in the Carterton net with ease.
Heads dropped and it was backs to the wall for several minutes, when a slip
at the back let in Hook Norton for their silky striker to double their
lead. This was proving to be a much harder match than expected and decision
after decision was going against us. But credit to the lads they battled
hard and Karl Smith never gave up hope with a loose ball in the box to
squeeze it past the Hook Norton keeper. With our tails up Carterton went
for it. Two outstanding saves and more bad refereeing prevented us from
closing the gap until right on half time another shocking decision by the
ref let a clear offside goal count and we went in to the break 3 v 1 down.
The lads had worked hard but fortune favours the brave in football and they
couldn't wait to get out for the second period. Led by the courageous Chris
Godfrey at the heart of the defense, Carterton went out all guns blazing in
the second half. Karl Smith picked up the ball some 35 yards out, went round
both the Hook Norton centre backs, looked up and place a peach of a left
foot strike right in the top corner. At 2 v 1 it was all Carterton. Attack
after attack we were kept out by a stubborn defence and hard working Hook
Norton keeper but you could see a goal was on its way.
With 10 minutes left we had a free kick 25 yards out. Up stepped Chris
Godfrey, who unleashed a screamer that bought us level. As legs tired on
came Will Partlett. Hook Norton had two opportunities late on with fast
break always, but it was Carterton who looked like winners and right on the
final whistle, super sub Will Partlett weaved through Hook Norton's defence
and hit a smashing shot that beat their keeper hand down. We all jumped to
celebrate (Tina wet herself), when from nowhere came a Hook Norton defender
to heroically clear off the line. The game finished 3 v 3 and Carterton
U11's can be proud of their superb second half display. I don't like to
give Man-of-the-Match nominations as I believe football is a
TEAM game, but today, CHRIS
GODFREY was outstanding from the very first to the very last minute. In the
absence of the Connor Peacock, he stood proud and tall at the back and led
his team well indeed. Well done 'big man, a real Captains performance when
we needed one'. |

CFC U 11 4 v 3 Bicester Town Colts
Match report by Steve
Wright…..A pulsating game at Monahan Way, saw Carterton FC come from behind
twice to beat a well organised Bicester Town Colts 4 v 3 in this cracking
encounter.
The game started with Carterton pushing hard, only to find a very stubborn
Bicester back line, who were well organised and physically very strong,
keeping them out at every attempt. A long ball through the heart of the
defence was the only way through and a great ball from Jeremy Kirby fed
Danny Bott who rifled home his first of the morning. Carterton piled
forward in search of another only to be caught on the break by the talented
Danny Keen who bagged the first of his three. The roof fell in shortly
after for Carterton when a well placed free kick caught the Carterton
defence napping for Danny Keen to bag number two. Carterton were at six and
sevens at this point as Bicester controlled the game. But you make your own
luck in football and a short corner found Karl Smith, who weaved his way
through the Bicester back two only to be tackled at the last moment, but
fortune favours the brave and as the ball rolled lose, Jeremy Kirby stepped
in to blast it in to the back of the net. At 2 v 2 the game was end to end
with Chris Godfrey clearing off the line for Carterton whilst Tiago Lopes,
Ben Wright and Danny Bott all missed good chances for Carterton.
As half time approached Bicester got their own well deserved moment of luck,
when a clearing header from the Carterton defence fell in the path of Danny
Keen who fired the ball in to the roof of the net from 12 yards...A great
strike to claim his well deserved hat-trick.
Spleins were vented during the Carterton half time interval and it seemed to
do the trick, as it was all Carterton for the first ten minutes of the
second half and they were rewarded by their leading goal scorer Danny Bott,
who came up trumps with a speculative run in to the box, but a great strike
to draw us level.
It was now end to end stuff once again and a smashing game to watch as both
teams went for the win. But once again lady luck shone on Carterton when a
30 yard free kick from Connor Peacock beat all the Carterton strikers,
deceived all the Bicester defenders and snook in to the net leaving the
Bicester keeper stranded.
What a match......4 v 3 was the final result, with Carterton running out
winners, but what a great performance from Bicester who can feel very hard
done by. Danny Keen's hat-trick was worthy of a point at least. A great
game and a real credit to Under 11's football.

Bardwell 4 v 6 Carterton
Match report by Steve
Wright…..Carterton kicked off this game and went all out on the attack, with
the wind behind us and the down hill slope to our advantage, it wasn't long
before Tuesday nights training session on 'dead balls' paid off. Danny Bott
swung over a peach of a corner and Connor peacock rose above everyone in a
crowded penalty area to bury the ball in the back of the net. Within
minutes of the re-start, Jeremy Kirby broke down the right wing to deliver a
superb cross for Danny Bott to meet on queue and finish clinically. It was
all Carterton at this stage and a horrid mistake by the Bardwell keeper, led
to Rory O'Neill sneaking in to hammer home the third.
An atrocious refereeing decision allowed Bardwell to pull one back, only for
Carterton to stretch their lead once again with a fine strike from Karl
Smith to go in 4 v 1 at half time.
With four substitutes to use, Carterton made the changes which seemed to
unsettle the team and Bardwell came back in to the match splitting the
Carterton defence in half on two occasions to score. In between these two
goals Connor Peacock delivered a superb free-kick for Andy Rhodes to meet on
the volley to score his first goal of the campaign. At 5 v 3, Carterton
looked to have sealed victory but Bardwell kept pressing and with a minute
left they scored again to make it 5 v 4. Panic set in and a game that
should have been out of Bardwell reach and in the bag for Carterton now
looked in serious doubt. Bardwell pressed hard for a late equaliser only
for Carterton to break up field and Andy Rhodes double his season's tally
with a fantastic strike from 20 yards. The whistle blew seconds later with
Carterton winning 6 v 4 and sighs of relief all-round.
This game should have been out of Bardwell's sight at half time and credit
must go to their keeper who kept Carterton in single figures. A smashing
match !! |

CFC U 11 6 v 2 Bampton Town
Match report by Steve
Wright…..With a re-jigged line up after last weeks poor performance,
Carterton U11's started this game with their tails up and were on the attack
from the off. After just five minutes, Will Partlett played a superb ball
through the Bampton defence for Tiago Lopes to clinically finish. This was
just the boost Carterton needed after last weeks debacle and it wasn't long
before debutant Karl Smith made it two nil with a great half volley from an
acute angle. To their credit Bampton came back strong and soon had
Carterton on the back foot with a superb interchange of passing that sliced
through the Carterton central defence to reduce the deficit just before the
break.
With several changes at half time, Carterton came out second half all guns
blazing, with Danny Bott and Jeremy Kirby both netting a brace to put the
game beyond Bampton. The goal of the match though was scored between these
goals by Bamptons' impressive number six, Ryan Oliver who unleashed a
screamer of a goal from outside of the box. Both sides worked hard and some
good passing football was played by both teams. A special mention also goes
out to Carterton's centre half Connor Peacock who played his last game
before moving to Swindons U11's academy. Best of luck Connor from all at
Carterton FC, you'll be sorely missed. |

Deddington Colts 4 v 2 CFC U 11
Match report by Steve
Wright. A very poor outing from Carterton U11's on a lovely day at a
smashing location. We got out of the blocks very slowly and never really
started playing until we were 4 v 1 down. Danny Bott once again rescued us
with an individual goal to draw us level at 1 v 1 and Connor Peacock grabbed
a consolation penalty late on, but it was all in vein after a well organised
and hard working Deddington side had put the match beyond us. Nothing in
life is free and the sooner this team realises you don't get three points
unless you give 100% for the whole sixty minutes the better, or it will be a
long hard season. |

CFC U 11 3 v 1 Wychwood
Match
report by Steve Wright…..Carterton FC Under 11's
first League match of the season was versus and well organised and hard
working Wychwood side that gave an excellent account of themselves.
A close first
half saw Carterton have the lion’s share of the possession yet they failed
to make it count in the final third and were duly punished by James Bewer
with a clinical finish after fifteen minutes, leaving Chris Macdonald in the
Carterton goal no chance. A hard fought next fifteen minutes saw Carterton
keep pushing until right on the half time whistle the Wychwood keeper Guy
Walker cleared only for Bradley Wright to head back towards goal and Will
Parsons pick up the loose ball, round the keeper and finish with great
aplomb.
The second half
began with Carterton still pushing forward in search of a second goal,
only to be caught out on two occasions on the break where Wychwood
were really unlucky not to score, with one effort going inches wide and
another rebounding back off the post. Luck was on Cartertons' side though
and after just nearly going behind, Danny Bott sprung the Wychwood offside
trap and was through on goal, only to be brought down in the box, leaving
the referee only one option.....penalty ! Connor Peacock stepped up and
buried it. Moments later Carterton stretched their lead, with Danny Bott
once again breaking free to beat the Wychwood keeper to make it 3 v 1 just
before the final whistle blew.
Credit to
Wychwood, they played very well indeed and could have easily left with a
point had their finishing been more clinical. All told a good run out for
both teams on the opening day of the season. |

3 v 1 Chasewell Park
Match report
from W&DYL Web site…. Chasewell faced the away trip to sunny Carterton's
Colts team.
As has been the case this year the first battle was to get enough players
to turn up. With ten players playing for Chasewell the game kicked off
with Chasewell playing into the wind. The five man midfield started
brightly and following a strong run from Liam Grieveson the ball was
turned in by Luke Stacey. Chasewell were passing and moving extremely well
and carved out several chances. Another good strike bounced off the bar.
Carterton finished the first half strongly and scored two in the last five
minutes of the half.
Chasewell had the conditions in their favour second half but the
conditions seemed to help Carterton who pressed well and kept a lot of the
ball .Chasewell were tiring and only had a couple of further chances to
show for a lot of hard work. A fluffed goal kick at the end gifted
Carterton a third. To Chasewell's credit the Carterton management at the
end of the game hadn't realised we only had ten players which is a credit
to the players that played. Some players have been ill recently but
success at the start of the season was due to commitment which is now
sadly lacking. |

CFC U 11 Colts
1 v 3 Bicester town Colts
Match report
from W&DYL Web site…. Bicester continued their excellent winning run with
a hard fought victory at Carterton Colts. Harrison Cassidy and George
Morgan created the first opening with the resulting shot from George well
held by the Carterton Colts keeper. Another good move by Bicester
involving
Harrison again soon followed, this time Ryan Collins
testing the keeper with a shot. From Bicester's point of view, the game
was being played in the right area of the pitch, as any attack from
Carterton colts was quickly stifled by the Bicester defence, Ben Holt &
Nathan Hillary in particular, quickly closing down the Carterton Colts
wingers. With Bicester pushing to make the breakthrough, a goal was
inevitable but it was Carterton who scored it, against the run of play but
a good move nonetheless. Bicester were now searching for an equaliser and
a great cross by Danny Keen found its way to James Freeman at the far post
but the ball was put out for a corner before James could shoot. Danny took
the corner, Matthew Jillians chested it down for Tom Batchelor but he shot
wide. The equaliser soon came as Matthew picked out Lewis Garcia with a
long throw and he beat the keeper at his near post from a right angle.
Bicester's hard work was rewarded again as on the stroke of half time they
made it 2-1. Ryan Kerwin started the move at the back, some slick passing
from George and Billy Dell put Danny away to score with another superbly
struck goal.
If Bicester had the better of the first half, Carterton Colts had the
second. They certainly made the Bicester back four work harder. But they
were up for the challenge, and because of this, Harry Brown in the
Bicester goal didn't have a lot to contend with, but when he was called
into action, he commanded his area well. Some tired legs were beginning to
show, not surprising because of the heat(?), so Josh Tingling came on to
shore things up a bit. The three points were firmly in the bag midway
through the second half again involving Billy, Danny & George. Danny is
always a danger when he has the ball and three Carterton Colts players
aimed to close him down. Danny squared the ball for George Morgan though,
now totally unmarked in the area and he made no mistake, finishing well in
the bottom corner. The final stages belonged to Carterton Colts and some
good challenges from Nathan and Tom and an excellent save from Harry kept
the score at 3-1. Manager's Man of the Match was Ryan Kerwin while the
parents Man of the Match went to Nathan Hillary. |

Colts 7 v 1 CFC U 11 Colts
Match report
from W&DYL Web site…. Deddington were back to full strength this week and
this was apparent as soon as the ref's whistle signalled the game had
begun. They dominated the first half with some lovely football. They were
3-0 up by the interval, the best goal coming from Ollie Ong after a great
passage of play from Gus Mills and Jorden Godfrey gave him the opportunity
to demonstrate some top finishing.
The second half was a scrappier affair for the first five minutes and
Carterton tried to get back into the game but Deddington stepped back up
through the gears, started to play again and were soon 7-0 in the lead.
Carterton Colt's number 2 grabbed a late consolation goal towards the end
of the match and never gave up but Deddington were on form today. Their
defence played well and players, such as Ollie Dawkins performed in
midfield and provided 2 goals. Two from Ollie Ong and a great individual
effort from Ross Allen all added to the score line for the Colts.
The conditions weren't great today but that didn't seem to bother the
Deddington lads. The whole team put in fine performances to ensure the
three points were never in any doubt. |

Bicester Town
Colts 3 v 4 CFC U 11 Colts
Match report
from W&DYL web site…..Another 4 3 loss for Bicester despite taking an
early lead against a well organised Carterton side.
After barely a minute on the watch, Ben Holt whipped in a terrific corner
that was forced in at the far post by Billy Dell. The lead didn't last
long though when the Bicester midfield switched off and a telling pass
through the Bicester defence was met with a confident finish to make it 1
1. Carterton pressed for another but Tom Batchelor, Josh Tingling and
Matthew Jillians were doing a stern job in the middle at the back. A
forced change saw Danny Keen limp off and this just seemed to upset
Bicester's game, and a couple of good blocks first by Ben and then by Ryan
Collins were much needed. It took a while for Bicester to settle but once
they did, they played some excellent football, Ryan Kerwin, James Freeman
and George Morgan showing some neat touches around the area that ended
with a pass to Ryan Collins that he just failed to get hold of. Carterton
were defending well and were looking to get the ball up to their forwards
for a quick counter attack. It paid off too, as two goals just before half
time took them into a 3 1 lead.
After ten minutes play of the second half, Carterton increased their lead,
Harry Brown made a fabulous double save from the same Carterton player,
first with his hands and then with his feet, only to see the ball fall
kindly to another player for a simple tap in. Bicester shuffled their
formation and looked for a way back into this match. Nathan Hillary was
pushed further forward and he was on the end of a George Morgan cross to
make it 4 2. Panic seemed to set in for the visitors and a high ball in
from Matthew found Ryan Collins with a header to make it 4 3 to the
visitors. George Pell came on late in the game and he had a ball to run on
to from Danny but the pass was just over hit. A spirited fight back by
Bicester but the points went to Carterton Colts. Bicester parents' Man of
the Match was Nathan Hillary and manager's Man of the Match was Ryan
Collins. |

1 v 2 Deddington Colts
Match report taken from W&DYL Web site…..
Deddington continued their great start to the season with their third win
in a row but it was a hard fought affair. Despite their early lead, from
Gabriel Godfrey-Janni's individual goal and their overall possession and
dominance, the Colts never looked as comfortable and organised as they
have in recent games. A battling home side took full advantage of
Deddington's indecisive midfield and drew level towards the end of the
first half with a well worked break and great piece of finishing from
their forward player.
The second half was a passionate affair but both sides lacked direction
and Deddington weren't able to close the game down, despite several
chances. Deddington had a goal disallowed but finally made their pressure
tell towards the end of the half. With 10 minutes of the game remaining
forward Charlie Roberts ran though the Carterton defence and finished
well, with his left foot, to regain the lead. Deddington's defence had a
good game and ensured Carterton were kept at bay. Another three points for
Deddington - but it was close at times. |

U12 B Div Carterton FC 2 - 2 Hook Norton
A fabulous game played in glorious
sunshine with barely a breath of wind, Carterton became only the second side
to take points against Hook Norton
all season. The first half was tense and very keenly contested with both
sides coming close on more than one occasion but not quite finding the
final touch. Defenders were on top and the midfield was a constant battle
ground. In the second half Hook Norton started by far the quicker of the
sides. Poor defending let them in twice and Alex Gilkes and Connor McEachen
punished Carterton for easing up. The game seemed beyond the
home side who had lost eleven - one in the reverse of this fixture. But
they kept plugging away, and when they won a free kick twenty yards out,
indefatigable skipper, Nicky Rose, hit a wonderful strike which had just too
much power for Danny James to hold in the away goal. Hook Norton
tried to increase the pressure but some fine defending throughout the team
and some good keeping from Saul Garrett kept the deficit to a single goal.
Then a scond free kick for Carterton, wide on the right, was again too much
for James to handle. He did well to keep out the first rebound from
Aaron Light but Jordan Anderton was too quick with the second. Hook Norton
are worthy winners of the league title and Carterton can feel
justly proud of a game which they could have snatched, but a draw was
undoubtedly a fair result. Carterton man of the match was Johnny Gatz for
a stirling performance in defence. |

Carterton FC
0 - 5 Grendon If ever
there was a game of two halves, in that "game of two halves," kind of way,
this was it!
In the first period Carterton matched the visitors stride for stride and
were relatively unlucky not to go in ahead at the interval. Nicky Rose
had the first meaningful shot of the game for Carterton after being
cleverly put through by Liam Moore. Jordan Anderton came desperately
close after Grendon keeper, Chris Laishley, could only parry a powerful hot
from George Godwin. The visitors held their nerve and there was still no
score at the half time whistle. Early in the second half, a free kick from
the edge of the box was lofted brilliantly into the top right
hand corner of Carterton's goal. Jo Baldwin forced an excellent save from
Grendon's keeper moments later only to see the away side tear up to the
other end and make it two nil and effectively game over. A pinball style
deflected goal made it three, a lack of concentration in the home defence
gifted the fourth and a superb dipping shot from distance made it five.
Grendon's lethal second half finishing certainly earned them the points but
Carterton can feel very unlucky not to have at least warranted one on the
score sheet. Charlie Brooks was Carterton's man-of-the-match for yet
another elegant display at full back.

CFC U 12 0 - 0 Ducklington
Match
report by Simon Garrett…..This was one of those nil-nil draws where both
sides came away with their heads held high and happy with a point. The wind
played a part from the start with Ducklington having lengthy periods of
possession and pressure. Carterton defended stoutly with Saul Garrett
constantly alert in the home goal ably supported by his back four who
tackled and ran tirelessly. Carterton were always dangerous on the break
however, with George Godwin a permanent threat at centre forward as was
Jordan Anderton, whose pace clearly unsettled the visitors. Roles were
reversed in the second half when it was Carterton's turn to apply the
greater pressure while having to be constantly aware of the threat the
visitors posed on the break. There were few clear-cut chances by the end
but both sides played with total commitment and produced some excellent
football. George Godwin was deservedly named Carterton's man-of-the-match. |

Cumnor Minors 1 v 4 CFC U 12
Match
report by Simon Garrett…..In an open and flowing game where both sides
played some good football Carterton ran out eventual four-one winners but
Cumnor's performance
belied their position at the bottom of the division. It was the home side
which had the first clear cut chance with a shot to Saul Garrett's left
which the Carterton keeper did well to push round his post. Both sides
struggled to create the decisive opening until Aaron Light struck an
excellent shot along the ground into the bottom corner of the Cumnor net to
break the deadlock. Early in the second half, George Godwin made it
two-nil to the visitors with a well taken shot on the run. Shortly
afterwards, Harrison Greeves tricked his way past two Cumnor defenders on
the right wing and crossed for Nicky Rose to make it three-nil. Adam Full
scored Carterton's fourth with an extraordinary strike; almost on the left
hand byline, near the edge of the area, he somehow squeezed the ball in at
the near post. Cumnor never gave up and grabbed a deserved consolation goal
minutes from time. Joe Milgate was named Carterton's man-of-the-match for
an outstanding performance at right back. |

Charlbury Town Youth 4 v 3
CFC U 12
Match
report from W&DYL Web site.. Carterton got exactly what they deserved from a
close contest; absolutely nothing at all. Charlbury started the quicker and
worked the harder in the opening minutes and went one up when a deflected
shot from the left looped over the top of Saul Garrett in the Carterton goal
leaving him no chance. Moments later George Godwin was unlucky not to
equalise when his shot ricocheted off both posts and out again to the
waiting home keeper. After ten minutes it was two nil. Slack defending let
Charlbury's left winger smash a shot across goal and back off the post for a
tap in. Jordan Anderton's pace was a constant worry for the home side and on
the first of many occasions when he ran through on goal he netted well to
make it two one. It was Anderton again who scored the equaliser, picking up
a loose ball on the edge of Charlbury's box after a poor goal kick. Just
before half time, Garrett was called into action twice more, once to
scramble clear a ball through the middle which Carterton's defence
collectively ignored and once to save impressively a full stretch after yet
another shot from the left.
After the interval, Charlbury went ahead again, their work rate and passing
again carving a great hole in the visitor's defence. Liam Moore brought the
scores level again with a good poacher's goal, snapping up a half chance in
the box. But Charlbury refused to give up and went ahead again almost
immediately after as Carterton's midfield persisted in being drawn upfield
as they searched for a winner of their own. Charlbury defended well for the
last few minutes and no amount of effort from Nicky Rose was enough to force
another equaliser.
Charlbury worked very hard for their win. Carterton generally did not, and
many lessons will have to be learned if the team is to recapture its early
season form. The visitors' man of the match was Jordan Anderton who was a
constant threat. |

Charlbury 4 v 3 CFC U 12
Match
report by Simon Garrett…..Carterton got exactly what they deserved from a
close contest; absolutely nothing at all.
Charbury's left winger smash a shot across goal and back off the post for a
tap in. Jordan Anderton's pace was a constant worry for the home side and
on the first of many occasions when he ran through on goal he netted well to
makeit two one.
After the interval, Charlbury went ahead again,
their work rate and passing again carving a great hole in the visitor's
defence. Liam Moore brought the scores level again with a good poacher's
goal, snapping up a half chance in the box. But Charlbury refused to give
up and went ahead again almost immediately after as Carterton's midfield
persisted in being drawn upfield as they searched for a winner of their

CFC U 12 8 v 1 Bardwell
Match
report by Simon Garrett…..Carterton swept Bardwell aside by eight goals to
one in a fine performance on a cold day in a fierce wind. Carterton were
well in control from the
off but spurned several chances in the first ten minutes. Bardwell
eventually broke away when the home side's defence switched off, Alex
Underwood shooting wide to Carterton keeper, Saul Garrett's left. His
despairing dive only served to push the ball wide into the corner. The reds
were back on terms very shortly afterwards when George Godwin hit the bar
and the ball bounced down, Geoff Hurst-style, for the equaliser.
Minutes later Godwin scored his second, a powerful shot from the left which
took a deflection into the corner. A strong run from Nicky Rose saw
Bardwell's keeper, Niall Brown make a good parry, only for Rose to tap in
the rebound. Just before half time, George Godwin made it four-one with an
impressive run and shot for his hat-trick. Early in the second half,
Harrison Greeves made it five-one - just rewards for his hard work on the
wing. Kez Bryer made it six with a looping shot over the keeper from the
edge of the area and Nicky Rose grabbed his second to make it seven.
Carterton's eighth goal went to Dan Leverton-Vaughan whose second half
switch to centre-forward was well-earned for another sold defensive
performance. Carterton's man-of-the-match was Liam Moore for another
display of sound passing in midfield |

Bampton Town 4 v 3 CFC U 12
Match
report by Simon Garrett…..Bampton deserved their four-three win in a close
fought contest where slack marking and poor positional play cost the
visitors dear. There were few clear cut chances in the first half, Bampton
seeing one chance fly across the goal mouth and Carterton being denied a
penalty when Geroge Godwin appeared to have been brought down when
one-on-one with the home keeper. Eventually it was the visitors who broke
the deadlock, Kez Bryer cleverly heading down a clearance on the edge of the
box and shooting past the Bampton goalie. Three minutes later, Bampton were
level, capitalising on poor marking with a well taken drive. In the second
half, Aaron Light did well to beat his man and shoot into the roof of the
next to put Carterton in front again. The game seemed all over when a long
ball found George Godwin who made no mistake and made it three-one. But
with minutes left, a cross from Bampton's left found a man unmarked at the
far post for three-two. The equaliser was almost a carbon copy of that
goal; once more Carterton's marking was well below what was required. The
winner was a
scrappy affair with the visitors twice failing to clear and the home team
reaping fair reqards for their efforts. Carterton's man-of-the-match was
Harrison Greeves who gave both full backs a torrid time on the wings. |

CFC U 12 3 v 0 Wychwood
Rovers
Match
report by Simon Garrett…..Carterton left it until very late to secure the
three points in this Under 12 B Division match at home to Wychwood, but in
the end the win was well deserved. Playing with the wind and the slope at
Kilkenny Lane,
Wychwood matched the home team in the first half with scoring chances few
and far between at either end. Stand-in Wychwood keeper, Jack Young, was
ably assisted by pacy right back, Mitchel Simpson, in keeping Carterton at
bay.
In the second half, the visitors struggled to launch the ball clear of the
halfway line and were under frequent pressure. Eventually they tired and
George Godwin broke the deadlock with a thunderous shot from the edge
of the box. Minutes later, Godwin went on another impressive run and slipped
in Nicky Rose who finished well from a similar distance. Shortly before the
end, Kez Bryer ran through the middle and took the third goal to clinch the
game. Carterton right back, Joe Milgate, was the home side's
man-of-the-match |

CFC U 12 1 v 0 Steeple Aston
& Barton Juniors
Match
report by Simon Garrett….. In an exciting, free-flowing game, all that was
missing was more goals. Carterton started marginally the stronger as both
sides tried to play good football in a tricky wind. There was plenty of
accurate passing and strong tackling on display but, for the first fifteen
minutes, most of it was in midfield. Harrison Greeves picked up the ball on
the left for Carterton and did exceptionally well to weave his way past two
men before laying the ball of to Liam Moore. He threaded the ball through to
Nicky Rose who went on a trademark surging run through the middle and shot
from just inside the box leaving the visitors' keeper no chance. In the
second half, with the wind behind them, Carterton took more control but
Steeple never stopped looking dangerous and had several half chances. Jack
Taylor and Alex Hatsigeorgiou did particularly well at the back for Steeple
as did Sean Millard in goal. In the end, Carterton narrowly deserved their
victory and Harrison Greeves picked up the home side's man-of-the-match
award. |

CFC U 12 3 v 2 Eynsham Youth
Match
report by S Garrett…..Carterton got back to winning ways with a three - two
home win over Eynsham but the away side can take great credit for the way
they battled. Playing with the wind in the first half Eynsham just edged
the early exchanges. Their first goal came direct from a corner, the ball
arching high above the helpless home defence and keeper into the far top
corner of the net. It was two - nil just a few minutes later when a mix up
in the Carterton defence let Eynsham tap in from close range. Straight from
the restart, Nicky Rose went on a strong run through the middle and laid the
ball off to Jordan Anderton who seemed to have lost his chance before
pinching the ball back from Jack Gallow in Eynsham's goal to make it two -
one. Carterton saw much more of the ball in the second period with the wind
on their side. The equaliser was a strange affair with Nicky Rose lobbing a
high ball in with his back to goal which defeated everyone. With minutes to
go, a neat passing move saw Ben Shankland nipping in sweetly to tuck the
ball home and make it three - two to Carterton. Charlie Siret and Liam
Bothcerby were Eynsham's scorers. Saul Garrett in goal was the home side's
man-of-the-match |

Match
report from W&DYL Web site.. Ducklington saw off Carterton 5-3 in this
pulsating game. Yassin Elouahabi and Jake Cockroft both scored in the first
half without reply. The second half saw Carterton applying more pressure and
were quick to equalize the scoring. Ducklington came back with another
strike from Jake Cockroft with Carterton replying soon afterwards, with the
scoring now 3-3 both teams battled on and Ducklington's stubborn defence
stood firm. Ducklington were awarded 2 penalties which saw Yassin Elouahabi
and Jack Robinson on target. Goal Scorers for Carterton Nicky Rose (2) and
George Godwin. Well played both teams. |

CFC U 12 4 v 1 Cumnor Minors
Match
report by Simon Garrett…..The points went to Carterton but the lion's share
of the credit went to Cumnor in a game played in grisly cold and wet
conditions. Cumnor began the game with only nine players and had to play
the second half with only eight, but they ran their hearts out to make light
of their lack of numbers. Carterton spent much of the first half on the
attack but struggled to make an impact as the visitors defended with
determination and fought for every ball. Nicky Rose broke the deadlock
before half time with a well-taken goal and the home side believed Cumnor
must wilt in the second half. But Cumnor came out as committed as ever and
it was some time before Adam Full had a ball over the top to run onto and
make it two-nil. Jordan Anderton netted a third and Liam Moore, Carterton's
man-of-the-match, deservedly made it four. Cumnor scored a well-earned
consolation goal through Daniel West. Eight wins out of eight for Carterton
so far this season, but they will have to play considerably better than this
if that hundred per cent record is to be retained for much longer. |

11.11.07 |
CFC U 12 5 v 1v Charlbury
Town Youth
Match
report by Simon Garrett…..Carterton maintained their hundred per cent record
in the Witney & District B Division with a five one home win against
Charlbury. Kicking against the wind in the first half Carterton were slow
to start and after the ball was lost in midfield the defence could not
recover and Stephen Pearce netted for Charlbury. The visitors showed some
neat touches but Carterton started to edge their way back into the game and
were having the better of the play by half time, Nicky Rose scoring the
equaliser with five minutes to go. In the second half, with the wind at
their backs, it was all Carterton. Charlbury's keeper was keeping his side
in the game and saved a penalty from Rose amongst a number of excellent
stops. But time and pressure were against him and Rose scored a second and
third in quick succession to put the game beyond doubt. From the restart he
put Liam Moore through to make it four; from a corner, again taken by Nicky
Rose, the same player was on the end of a good cross to make it five.
Carterton's man-of-the-match was Johnny Gatz. |

KO Cup…..Bicester1 v 3 CFC U
12
Match
report by Simon Garrett…..It's always end-to-end when these two teams meet
and Sunday's three-one win for Carterton FC Under 12s away to Bicester in
the knockout cup was no exception. It could easily have been five-three to
the visitors at half-time after a number of chances at either end. For
Carterton, Nicky Rose, George Godwin and Jordan Anderton all came close with
the home side being saved twice by the woodwork. Eventually, Carterton's
pressure when Nicky Rose powered through the Bicester defence and thumped a
good drive to the keeper's left which he could not stop. Playing downhill
in the second period, Carterton seemed to be taking control when Nicky
scored his second after a neat flick from Adam Full put him through. But
Bicester refused to give up and after weak play from the Carterton midfield
pulled one back to guarantee an exciting finish. Johnny Gatz had to be
alert in the visitors' goal more than once and his defenders also had to
scramble the ball away repeatedly. But it was all over when Nicky Rose
picked up the ball in the middle of the pitch and took off down the left,
powering an excellent crossfield shot beyond the home keeper for a well
deserved hat trick. No prizes for guessing that the Carterton captain was
man-of-the-match although credit was also due to the wonderfully disciplined
Kez Bryer and to Saul Garrett for a fine second half performance. |

Carterton FC 4 v 3 Bicester
Town
Match
report by Simon Garrett…..Carterton eventually took the three points to
maintain their hundred per cent record in a breathless game which could
easily have gone either way. Playing at the seniors' Kilkenny Lane
ground the grass was long and the pitch was large, sapping the energy from
both sets of players. Carterton started the stronger and after five minutes
a cross from the left found Joe Baldwin just inside the box who finished
beautifully, blasting the ball into the roof of the net and giving Bicester
keeper, Liam Bradbury, no chance. Carterton seemed to be reasonably in
control but a disciplined Bicester defence continually caught the home
strikers offside. Bicester's breaks were looking more dangerous as the half
wore on and a high, looping cross from the right deceived Carterton keeper
Johnny Gatz. The ball bounced over his head and was slotted home for the
equaliser. Carterton then went to pieces. Five minutes later another
breakaway saw another fine shot sail over Gatz's head. The visitors added a
third three minutes later and the game was turned on its head. In the
second half the Carterton pressure mounted and George Godwin slotted a shot
low past Bradbury's left hand. Carterton laid siege to Bicester's goal but
were still falling for the offside trap at regular intervals. Bicester used
their pace well and were a constant threat on the break. With five minutes
to go, Carterton equalised, Godwin firing home his second. Both sets of
players were exhausted as the game moved into extra time. Carterton
man-of-the-match, Adam Full, battled hard for a ball wide on the left and
played a one-two before the winning strike. Bicester can consider
themselves very unlucky not to have taken anything from the game. Their
scorers were Joel Gould and Brad Shields with two. A tremendous game which
was a credit to both sets of players and supporters. |

Match
report by Simon Garrett…..Carterton finally won through by two goals to one
in a hard fought match in the Under 12 B Division to maintain their hundred
per cent record for the season. Kicking against a strong wind Carterton
produced a lot of early pressure but with little end result. Midway through
the first half in a rare Bampton attack, the home defence failed to clear
three times
until Thomas Jackson slotted home from close range. Moments later, Johnny
Gatz went on a strong run on the right for the home side but his crossed
fizzed across the area just in front of Aaron Light who could not quite make
contact. Minutes later Nicky Rose hit a good shot just over the bar from
the edge of the box and it seemed as though the home team must score. The
Bampton keeper made a nubmer of good saves including one particularly brave
effort at the feet of Gatz. With the wind behind them Carterton had the
visitors pinned into their area for most of the second half. Nicky Roase
went close twice more before delivering a good corner which Liam Moore swept
into the net for the equaliser. Dan Leverton-Vaughan had one nervous moment
for the home team with a superb goal line clearance, but with five minutes
to go another Carterton corner saw Johnny Gatz finish to claim all three
points. Carterton's man-of-the match was Joe Milgate who put in a fine
perfomance at right back. |

Match
report by Simon Garrett…..Carterton started the season with a good away win
beating Steeple Aston & Barton Juniors by two goals to one. Both sides were
a little rusty in their first competitive game but it was the visitors who
had the best of the early pressure. Too often, Carterton's attacking moves
broke down from poor passing and gradually, Steeple Aston gained in
confidence and began to take control. A shot from the right flew across the
face of the Carterton goal and came back off the post for an easy tap in
leaving the away keeper stranded. Shortly before the end of the half,
Carterton drew level with a short corner, quickly taken by Liam Moore. Nicky
Rose took the ball past one defender at the edge of the home penalty and
sent a fine, arcing left-foot shot into the roof of the net. Carterton spent
much of the second half camped in opposition territory but repeated breaks
at speed by their opponents led to Carterton goalie, Saul Garrett, having to
be quick off his line on more than one occasion. Eventually, the away
pressure told when George Godwin picked the ball up outside the SteepleAston
box and hit a right foot shot with the outside of his boot from fully twenty
yards which curled into the far corner of the net
Carterton's
man-of-the-match was Kes Briar who was both tireless and exceedingly
disciplined throughout.. |

Hill
Match
report from W&DYL Web site Carterton Colts
thoroughly deserved their win against a below par Tower Hill side.
Tower Hill started brightly and were 1-0 up after three minutes with a well
taken goal from Adam Moore. The goal did not deter a battling Carterton side
who out muscled Tower for every ball. Tower were struggling to play their
normal passing game but Carterton were definitely up for the game and soon
equalised with Matty Bicker heading in from close range after an initial
shot from Harry Puffitt came back off the cross-bar. This spurred Carterton
on and were soon ahead with a good goal from Matty Knibbs. Half-time score
2-1.
The second half was the same with Carterton fighting for every ball and
Tower at sixes and sevens and Carterton went further ahead with another goal
from Matty Knibbs. Tower tried to pull things back but Jacob Hughes was
unlucky with his shot that was well saved by the Carterton goalie Joe Thorp.
Harry Puffitt then sealed a fine win for Carterton with a fourth goal.
This was Tower's worst performance of the season and didn't seem to be up
for the game whereas Carterton were playing as a team and ran out worthy
winners. |

Match
report from W&DYL Web site Colts beat Chesterton
6-2 on a bright sunny morning.
Harry Puffit scored the opening goal with a great lofting shot from outside
the box after a couple of minutes. Carterton pressed Chesterton's goal with
pressure throughout the first half getting their just rewards with another
goal from Joe Henry. Carterton's third came after some lovely passing
football, the ball defected of a Chesterton defender to end up in the back
of the net half time score 3-0.
The second half started much the same as the first with some flowing
football from both teams and Chesterton were unlucky on numerous occasions
not to score. Then Matty Bicker found his scoring boots to get a quick
hatrick rounding the keeper twice. Chesterton kept battling and late on
punished Carterton for some shoddy defending to score twice, their scorers
were Brendon Erskine and Jack Timme - they were unlucky not to make it three
after hitting both posts from one attack.
It was a great game to watch and Chesterton should be congratulated for some
nice play but Carterton were on their game today and made it difficult for
them. |

Match

when Harry Cornforth forced in a loose ball following a corner. The home
side then took the lead when the Bloxham defence failed to deal with a

pace from both sets of players, Carterton scored first with a well taken
goal from Henry Cornforth against his old club but North Leigh had the wind
behind them and it didn't take them long to equalize again a well taken goal
scored by Chris Shelley. As the game went on Carterton started to find their
feet and scored another two in the first half to take the
score to 3-1 at half time.
In the second half the wind behind them Carterton attacked the North Leigh
goal but just couldn't put the ball in the net this has been the Colts
problem all season they are creating chances but not putting them away but
to be fair to North Leigh they worked really hard and as usual Hayley

got another three to take the score final to 6-1. North Leigh never gave up
right until the final whistle. Other Colts scorers were Mattie Bicker, Henry

first, when from their first attack Daryl Harrison tucked away a rebound
after an Anthony Charles shot was blocked. Carterton battled back and
equalised when Harry Puffitt latched on to a half clearance and finished
well from outside the box. Bloxham regained the lead immediately when Jordan
Godfrey was brought down and Charles scored from the spot.<br>
In the second half it was the home side who had the early chances but
Carterton were level when Matty Knibbs broke free to fire into the top

and were back on terms when Elliot Bryant fired home from distance after
some clever interplay. Carterton finished the stronger but could not find

on a blustery Wychwood pitch, they started with the wind behind them and
soon got off the mark with a goal from Matty Knibbs, the wind was causing

Tower Hill 2 - 1 Carterton FC U 13
This was Cartertons final match of the season
and they were determined to make it difficult for Tower Hill.
The first half got under way and Tower Hill
dominated the early stages with a couple of shots and corners to put
pressure on the Carterton defence. On 14 minutes it was Tower Hill who
opened the scoring when the ball was tapped into goal after a rolling pass
from the left into the 6 yard box. At that point Carterton began to play
football with some good passing moves and a few corners, but they never
troubled the Tower Hill keeper. At the other end of the pitch Danny Chapman
was not being tested by Tower Hill as their shots were also off the mark.
After half time Carterton came out strong and
mounted an attack inside the first minute when Ollie Hawkins saw his shot go
over the bar. For the next 20 minutes Carterton were coming out top in the
possession and shooting stakes, putting a lot of pressure on the Tower Hill
goal. Their persistence was eventually rewarded when Patrice Guillois
passed the ball to Jack Green who laid it on for Aaron Robins to run onto
and blast it into the back of the net to make it 1-1. 15 minutes to go and
all to play for and both teams went for it. Tower Hill were making good
runs down the right side and crossing the ball into the Carterton goal mouth
but the final touches were off target. On 60 minutes Ollie Hawkins saw
another shot dip agonisingly over the bar and a minute later Aaron Robins
saw his goal bound shot bounce of the keepers legs. On 64 minutes Jack
Green struck a great corner that hit the keeper and into the goal but was
not deemed to have fully crossed the line before it was cleared. It was on
the 69th minute that saw Tower Hill snatch a late winner. The
ball was launched down the right side with Danny Chapman advancing from the
goal but a Tower Hill boot just beat him to it and the ball went over him
and into the empty net for 2-1. Carterton still managed a further two
attempts on goal when Ollie Hawkins chipped the ball into the box for Jack
Green to head wide and a last minute corner saw the ball headed straight at
the keeper.
The final whistle went and Carterton can
reflect on a good season with some very close battles but most importantly
they will still be playing in the A league for 2008/2009. |

Wychwood 2 – 4
Carterton FC
Match report by
Robert Green…..With only 3 games remaining this season Carterton travelled
to Wychwood looking to grab another 3 points.
The first half
was a very strange affair without either team dominating. The ball was not
being kept under control but instead it was played like a bouncy ball. It
was a kick it and hope period which left the Carterton manager scratching
his head as it was not the style he had hoped for. The first 15 minutes saw
a couple of half chances fall to the teams but neither could capitalise,
with shots going wide or being blocked. The opening goal came on 16 minutes
when an Oliver Hawkins corner saw the ball bouncing around the penalty area
before Aaron Robins struck it into the net to give Carterton the lead.
Wychwood did not pose any further danger for the remainder of the half as
Carterton had the upper hand but without the accuracy.
Whatever was
said at the half time interval remains a mystery but Carterton began the
second half with all guns blazing and actually started to play good
football. Within the first minute they threatened the goal but could not
break through. On 42 minutes Jack Green put the ball over the top for Ollie
Hawkins to meet and calmly slotting the ball home for 0-2. Before the
Wychwood players could compose their selves Aaron Robins scored his second
from another Jack Green cross to make it 0-3. The 4th goal came
on 45 minutes when a lovely passing move involving Ollie Chowns, Charlie
Collins, and Jack Green before the ball was crossed to Ollie Hawkins who
calmly lifted it over the keeper to make it 0-4. It was at this point that
Carterton decided to stop playing attacking football and allow Wychwood to
take over. The last 30 minutes was all Wychwood. They never gave up and
the warning signs were there as they hit the post from a high looping shot
from 30 yards. A minute later they went on the attack and slotted the ball
into the net to make it 1-4. Danny Chapman was suddenly working hard in the
Carterton goal along with Richard Johnson, Harry McEnnis, Nathan Godwin and
Ryan Southwood playing good defensive roles. On 59 minutes Wychwood grabbed
a second goal to make it 2-4 and suddenly Carterton looked vulnerable. The
ball rarely left the Carterton half with Wychwood having a succession of
corners but they could not get the ball into the net. The final whistle
went much to Cartertons relief as they certainly made it difficult for their
selves at the end.
Well done to
everyone as the game was played in a very friendly way with only a couple of
fouls occurring during the entire match. A credit to you all |

Chipping Norton
Town Swifts 4 v 5 CFC U 13
Match report by
Robert Carterton travelled to Chipping Norton looking to come away with a
good result. If previous matches were anything to go by this was going to be
a tough encounter, and the game certainly lived up to it.
Carterton
started the match with the benefit of a strong wind behind them. However it
was Chipping Norton who took advantage. Within 2 minutes they were 1-0 up
with the goal coming from a corner. This woke up Carterton and they
instantly replied with an equaliser. Richard Johnson started the move by
laying the ball to Ollie Hawkins who ran down the right side before putting
it to Charlie Collins who whipped across the goal for Aaron Robins to tuck
it away nicely. A couple of minutes later Carterton took the lead when Ryan
Southwood struck the ball from 20 yards and curled it into the left hand
corner well wide of the keeper. This boosted the team and they played good
attacking football. Jack Green ran into the box but couldn’t find the
target with the shot going for a corner. From the corner Patrice Guillois
saw his shot go narrowly wide. On 8 minutes Jack put the ball through the
Chippy defence for Charlie Collins to run onto, who then put the ball past
the keeper to make it 1-3. It wasn't until 15 minutes before Chippy
threatened the Carterton goal. A low free kick from outside the box went to
the forward who lifted it over the bar. A minute later Chippy went round
the Carterton keeper Danny Chapman but shot over the bar. The game then
settled down a little with much of the play being concentrated in the
midfield area. Alex Collett, Harry McEnnis and Ollie Chowns were defending
well and keeping any threats at bay. Chippy earned another corner and
pulled a goal back for 2-3 as the ball was not cleared firs time. The final
5 minutes of the first half saw the Chippy keeper pull off 2 great saves.
Ollie Hawkins saw his strike tipped over the bar whilst Charlie Collins saw
the keeper at full stretch, pushing the ball onto the post. Just before the
half time whistle Patrice took the ball into the box and round the keeper as
the score went to 2-4.
The second half
would benefit Chippy with the wind advantage so Carterton did find their
selves on the defensive. This half also got very physical with Rob the ref
producing his yellow card on 4 occasions in order to bring the players and
game under control.
Chippy took
control of the game and did not come out of the Carterton half for the first
15 minutes. Danny Chapman was working very hard stopping low shots and high
shots and the odd shot from his own defence!!! The football was not really
flowing this half and did get a bit scrappy at times. Carterton were pinned
into a defensive role with Nathan Godwin keeping composure and standing firm
to the attacks. Garry Larner played very well on the left side with
positive passing and good tackling, frustrating the Chippy players. On 59
minutes Chippy got another corner. They were at their most dangerous on
corners as the delivery caused all sorts of problems. This one was no
different and was duly headed into the goal to make it 3-4. However,
Carterton took this in their stride and within a minute Patrice set up the
ball nicely for Aaron to grab his second of the day to make it 3-5. On 65
minutes Chippy had another corner which was punched away and then headed
wide much to Cartertons' relief. Chippy were constantly pushing forward but
Carterton did manage to clear the lines and mount a counter attack. Aaron
thought he had got his hat trick when Ollie Hawkins set him up but it was
ruled offside. In the 70th minute Chippy grabbed a 4th
but within 5 seconds of the restart the full time whistle went.
Carterton came
away with a much deserved 3 points and dug in hard to deny Chippy.
Well done both teams. |

Banbury North
Match report by
Robert Green….. This was billed to be a close encounter as the match earlier
in the season was very evenly balanced with Banbury taking the honours in a
wind swept match. However his time there was no wind and Kilkenny Lane
welcomed the teams.
Banbury
Town took the kick off and quickly got into their stride. An opportunist
strike from 30 yards saw the ball go high into the air and caught Danny
Chapman out as it struck his body and rolled in after 4 minutes. Carterton
kept their heads up and did produce some fantastic football. Charlie
Collins, Ollie Hawkins, Aaron Robins, Dael Campbell, Patrice Guillois all
had chances during the half and should have put the match out of reach by
half time. Aaron did score on 14 minutes when an over the top ball by Harry
McEnnis was met by Aaron who ran into the box and slotted the ball home.
But it was all Carterton possession with good passing and taking on the
Banbury defence but just failing to put the ball on target. Banbury managed
to mount an attack on 34 minutes with 2 consecutive corners but the
Carterton defence cleared the danger easily. Just on the stroke of half
time Patrice Guillois put a great through ball for Charlie Collins to run
onto before he smashed it past the keeper to make it 2-1.
The second half
was very similar to the first with Carterton making all the moves and piling
the pressure onto the Banbury goal. It was the finishing that let the team
down. Chance after chance kept coming with more chances falling for Charlie
Collins, Aaron Robins, Parice Guillois, Oliver Chowns and Alex Collett. On
the rare occasion that Banbury attacked Danny Chapman was there to stop the
ball. This was the time when a 3rd goal was certainly needed but
Banbury snatched an equaliser on 62 minutes when a Carterton goal kick went
to Banbury who returned the ball instantly into the net to make it 2-2. The
last few minutes proved to be very nerve wracking as Carterton went close
again but Banbury went looking for a last minute goal. Banbury had a shot
saved by Danny but it rebounded off him and bounced inside the 6 yard box
only for a Banbury attacker to shoot wide of the empty goal. The final
whistle went shortly after with the points shared.
Carterton were
by far the better team out there and had 25 attempts on goal. The team did
play good football and worked extremely hard with great movement off the
ball. Long may we witness this at all future matches. |

Tower Hill
Match report by
Robert Green…..Carterton welcomed Tower Hill to Kilkenny Lane for their
first meeting of the season. The weather was perfect with lovely sunshine
and no wind which was a huge difference to last week’s conditions.<br>
Tower Hill
started the proceedings in what was to become a very tough encounter with
the Carterton goalkeeper Danny Chapman working overtime and pulling out some
amazing saves.
In the 2nd
minute Carterton moved the ball down the right side for Aaron Robins to
cross the ball into the box with Ollie Chowns jumping to head it but the
ball was just a bit too high. Tower Hill started to dominate the pay after
5 minutes and had their first attempt on goal shot from 25 yards but only
straight to Danny. This was repeated a couple of minutes later into Danny’s
hands. Carterton were battling hard to get the ball away from their own
area and on 11 minutes Danny stopped a shot from 6 yards out to deny Tower
Hill. Carterton did start to work well with passing moves and keeping
possession and got their reward when Ollie Chowns put the ball forward to
Aaron Robins whose pinpoint through ball found Ollie Hawkins running onto it
and then shot past the diving goalie. 1-0 to Carterton. After 20 minutes
Tower Hill turned up the heat with numerous corners, goal line clearances
and more jaw dropping saves by Danny, but they could not hit the back of the
net. Charlie Collins struck the ball with great accuracy from a free kick
but this was met with a diving save by the Tower Hill keeper. Carterton
began to put pressure on Tower Hill and Charlie Collins was unlucky when his
header went straight at the keeper from 6 yards. A minute later saw Ollie
Hawkins strike the ball from outside the box and dipped just over the bar.
The final 5 minutes of the half was a busy time for the Carterton defence as
Danny made yet another point blank save. On 31 minutes Tower Hill did
manage to get the ball into the net when the ball was not cleared properly.
The shot went through a busy goalmouth before finding the goal. All square
at 1-1. Just prior to half time Tower Hill took the ball into the box,
Danny ran out and the forward took the ball around him, but then shot the
ball into the side netting much to Catertons relief.
The second half
saw very tired legs and fewer chances for both teams. However, Tower Hill
did prove to be a handful at times. Within the first minute of this half
Danny was faced with a 1on 1 in the goal and came away with the ball safely
in his hands. The next 5 minutes Tower Hill were taking shots at the
Carterton goal from distance without troubling the keeper at all. On 44
minutes Charlie Collins saw his shot deflected wide for a Carterton corner.
That was about the last real threat that Carterton placed on the Tower Hill
goal. The game itself went into a quiet phase where neither team could
build a string of passes to gain any territory. Towards the very end of the
match it looked as though Tower Hill may sneak a winner but Danny made two
further saves at the feet of attackers and pulled off two diving saves to
turn the ball around the post.
The final
whistle went with Carterton feeling very happy with taking a much need and
overall a deserved point from the game. There must have been lots of finger
nails chewed by the Carterton spectators during this match and credit must
be given to both sets of players as they gave everything. They should all
sleep well tonight !!! |

North Leigh 2 v
1 CFC U 13
Match report by
Robert Green…..Carterton travelled to North Leigh looking to extend their
current winning streak. With very cold temperatures and gale force winds
the spectators witnessed a very close game. Throughout the entire 70
minutes neither team took total dominance and it could have gone either
way. There were very few goal scoring opportunities for either team as the
defences were pulling out all the stops.
North Leigh had
the first real chance after 4 minutes but Danny Chapman stopped the ball on
the edge of the box with the rebound shot got wide of the post. For the
next 10 minutes the teams had good passing movements but could not battle
beyond the midfield areas with Cartertons Garry Larner having a great
match. However, it was North Leigh who took the lead when they played one –
two passing moves before striking the ball over Cartertons Danny and into
the net. 5 minutes later Carterton thought they had got their equaliser but
the chipped shot by Patrice Guillois was deemed to have just gone over the
bar and onto the net. On 24 minutes, Carterton defenders had the ball at
Ryan Southwoods’ feet who knocked in over the midfield and split the North
Leigh defence. Ollie Hawkins raced onto it from the centre circle and ran
the ball to the penalty area before striking it over the North Leigh
goalkeeper to equalise 1 – 1. Cartertons defensive players had a really
good period by winning tackles and laying the ball to the midfielders.
Richard Johnson, Alex Collett, Nathan Godwin were winning headers and gave
the North Leigh players nothing but hassle. The last 5 minutes of the first
half saw North Leigh making a forward progress but could not get a shot on
target, with Carterton clearing the ball from dangerous positions.
The second half
kicked off and Carterton went straight onto the offensive but saw the
attempt cleared. On 37 minutes Carterton only half cleared the North Leigh
attack and paid the price as the ball was struck low along the ground into
the net 2- 1. Carterton never gave up looking for the equaliser and pushed
forward. Harry McEnnis once again made his presence felt in defence with
strong tackling. A succession of corners saw the ball go across the goal
mouth but a Carterton foot could not connect. Ollie Chowns was denied when
a last minute block saw his shot stopped. Aaron Robins and Charlie Collins
were playing good through balls between the North Leigh defences but were
agonisingly just a yard too long for other players to run onto. Carterton
kept looking for the elusive goal with shots from Dael Campbell, Jack Green,
Charlie Collins and Aaron Robins going close. They certainly kept the North
Leigh keeper on his toes. North Leigh had a couple of shots onto the
Carterton goal towards the end of the match but these never troubled Danny
and he calmly collected the ball. The final whistle went and North Leigh
took all the points.
This game was so
very close and Carterton can count their selves very unlucky not to have
come away with a point as they gave a superb performance and played very
good football with positive passing and awareness. Well done.
Match report
from W&DYL Web site…..The bitterly cold wind, along with a heavy pitch,
didn't seem to effect either side with both teams contributing to playing
out good game.<br>
In the early stages North took the initiative and created several good
openings, but were guilty of missing several goal scoring opportunities
after good approach play - Carterton 'keeper Danny Chapman denying them on
occasions. North, however, did take the lead with a fine individual effort
from Aaron Bowerman. He picked the ball up wide on the left, skipped past a
couple of Carterton defenders and unleashed an unstoppable effort high into
the top right corner of the net from around twenty yards. Within a few
minutes North should have increased their lead when James Turner couldn't
quite get enough power into his shot from close range. After around twenty
minutes Carterton got back on level terms when Ollie Hawkins picked up an
excellent defence splitting ball, before going on to strike a great effort
high over North's keeper Joe Morse. This seemed to lift the Carterton boys
and they were unlucky not to take the lead when a great effort from Charlie
Collins dipped agonizingly over the bar, leaving the game finely balanced at
the break.
The second period was equally well contested, both teams playing out some
excellent controlled football, though with both defences looking in great
shape the keepers had little to deal with. North regained the lead after a
good strike from James Turner squeezed under Carterton's keeper. To their
credit Carterton continued to press for an equalizer with Ollie Hawkins,
Aaron Robbins and Patrice Guillous all going close. In the later part of the
game, with the heavy pitch taking it toll, both teams used all their
substitutes to good effect and the game continued to flow nicely until the
final whistle.
This game was so very close and Carterton can count their selves very
unlucky not to have come away with a point as they gave a superb performance
and played very good football with positive passing and awareness. Well done |

Launton Boys
Match report by
Robert Green….. This game was very important for both teams as they are both
at the lower end of the league and a win would help either team. Carterton
knew what they had to do but Launton made it extremely difficult. The game
was very evenly balanced and could have gone either way. Fortunately, it
was Carterton who finished with a late winner.<br>
The weather was
excellent and probably one of the best days we have seen for a long time.
Launton kicked off and soon found their selves under a lot of pressure. The
first 5 minutes saw shots from Charlie Collins, Dael Campbell on target but
saved. However, on 6 minutes Nathan Godwin hit the ball forward with good
height for Charlie Collins to flick it off his head and over the keeper to
make it 0 – 1 to Carterton. Launton immediately responded but were denied
by Danny Chapman saving at the forwards’ feet. They then narrowly missed by
a free kick which went through the penalty box without any one making
contact. Launtons’ persistence paid off on 10 minutes when they put the
ball through Cartertons’ defence and the forward lifted the ball high over
the head of Danny to make it 1 – 1. One minute later Launton had a corner
but this was cleared to Ollie Hawkins who put the ball over the Launton
defence to Charlie who laid it to Aaron Robins who shot over the keeper to
make it 1 – 2. There were no further goal scoring opportunities for the
remainder of the half but Launton were piling the pressure onto Carterton
who were defending very well with Harry McEnnis, Richard Johnson and Patrice
Guillois proving their worth.
The second half
started with Carterton taking the kick off. This half was closely fought
without much goalmouth action until the 55th minute. The teams ere playing
good football but could not get through the stubborn defences to create many
chances. This was very evenly balanced all the way through. However on 55
minutes Carterton got their first corner of the half and saw their effort
cleared off the line and away to safety. 3 minutes later Aaron Robins saw
his high effort bounce off the bar and cleared. This made Launton push for
an equaliser and turned the pressure up. On 65 minutes they got their
reward when their corner kick turned into a goalmouth scramble with the ball
eventually hitting the back of the net 2 – 2. The game was all to play for
and on 67 minutes a Carterton throw by Jack Green saw the ball reach Ryan
Southwood who crossed an excellent high ball into the box. A Launton
defender jumped to head the ball clear but ended up glancing the ball into
his own net to make it 2 – 3. The last few minutes were nail biting for the
spectators but no further chances were created.
This was a much
needed win for Carterton and they were very happy when the final whistle
went. Both teams need congratulating as they never gave up, and were
totally committed to the game. The referee deserves mention too as he kept
the game flowing very well, playing good advantages and keeping the teams in
line. |

Chipping Norton Town Swifts
Match report by
Robert Green…..This was Cartertons’ first match of 2008 after the lengthy
festive break. They played hosts to Chipping Norton Swifts at the Kilkenny
ground which had withstood most of the rain over the last week. The weather
was very kind with no rain falling but the wind was biting and very strong.
However, both teams put up a good display of football which was entertaining
right up until the final whistle.
Carterton were
determined to start the year on a positive note and grab some much needed
points to move them up the table. Swifts kicked off the game and the first
10 minutes saw good possession by the teams but no penetration into either
goalmouth. Swifts were the first to venture into an attack and had a corner
on 10 minutes but it was easily cleared. The first pressure that Carterton
applied was on 13 minutes when Patrice Guillois put the ball across the face
of the goal with Aaron Robins just failing to make contact with his
outstretched boot at the far post. Danger lurked on 15 minutes when Swifts
chipped a free kick into the box; it was headed cleared only for Swifts to
take a snap shot from 25yards that gradually dipped over the bar. That gave
them the confidence to apply more pressure on the Carterton goal, which a
one time resulted in 4 consecutive corners before the defence finally
cleared it properly. Swifts still maintained pressure and clinical tackles
by Nathan Godwin and Dael Campbell in the goal mouth stopped 2 goal
opportunities. Carterton did regain composure and started to work the
midfield well with Garry Larner having a good game, but the final ball to
the forwards were judged to have been offside on many occasions. Ollie
Chowns worked well in space up front and laid a great ball to Aaron Robins
who took it into the area unchallenged but sliced the ball wide.
Neither team had
struck a goal worthy effort until the 33rd minute. Cartertons
keeper Danny Chapman was cleverly chipped by Swifts when the ball was thrown
out. Danny was off his line and the shot went over his finger tips into an
empty net. On the stroke of half time Ollie Chowns put Charlie Collins
through for Carterton and when inside the box he unselfishly passed the all
to Ollie Hawkins who blasted the ball just wide.
Whatever was
discussed at half time Carterton came out all guns blazing. In the first
few minutes the Swifts keeper was working very hard. He stopped two goal
bound shots from Aaron and cleared a corner. Swifts launched a good attack
on 42 minutes and shot over the bar from six yards. Cartertons defence were
working very well with good awareness and presence from Alex Collett,
Richard Johnson, Harry McEnnis, and Ryan Southwood. When they had
possession the ball was passed fluently and accurately. This paid off on 50
minutes as a number of one twos saw the ball move from defence, through
midfield and onto Charlie Collins whose final shot was brilliantly saved by
the Swifts keeper but landed at Aarons feet for him to slot the ball home 1
-1. This left the final 20 minutes all to play for. Carterton continued to
search for a winning goal but the final touch onto goal was missing. Swifts
were also determined to take all 3 points but could not get the ball on
target when threatening the Carterton goal. The break did come for
Carterton in the final minute when Charlie received another through ball and
took it into the box. A clever shot from the outside of the boot saw it go
beyond goal keepers hands and into the bottom right hand corner for 2 – 1.
The last few seconds were heart stopping as Swifts kept the ball in
Cartertons' half but could not find a way onto the goal.
The final
whistle went and Carterton snatched all 3 points. This was a great game to
watch and all the players worked hard in the cold and muddy conditions |

Bicester Town
colts 3 v 2 CFC U 13
Match report by
Bob Green…..This was the third meeting of these teams this season and
Carterton were looking to get revenge on their two previous defeats. Even
though they had suffered defeats. the previous matches had been very close.
The pitch was in
very good condition and the weather was sunny but bitterly cold for
everyone.
Carterton took
the kick off and shocked the Bicester team by scoring twice inside the
opening 4 minutes. The first came from a Charlie Collins clever chip over
the Bicester defence that Oliver Chowns ran onto, taking it round the keeper
and placing the ball into the empty goal. The second was created by Patrice
Guillois who chipped the ball to the far post for Aaron Robins to knock in.
By this time Carterton were playing good football with lots of passing moves
and frustrating the Bicester players.
Bicester did get
back into the game quite strongly by playing their usual style of kicking
the ball high and deep into the Carterton half with the idea of their
sprinting forwards to grab the goals. Their first came on 9 minutes when a
corner cross was bundled in at the near post to make it 1-2. Cartertons'
Danny Chapman made 3 saves at point blank range to deny Bicester a second
goal. However, on 15 minutes the ball was in the net for Bicester after the
high ball was played through Cartertons’ defence. 6 minutes later saw a
repeat of the high ball up the pitch for Bicester to grab a third.
The game settled
down a bit for the final 15 minutes without any real opportunity occurring
for either team but Bicester were coming in hard and strong on various
tackles, with Carterton being forced to make substitutions.
The second half
kicked off and Carterton immediately went onto the attack with Bicester
having to save a shot from Oliver Chowns who was cleverly played through by
Alex Collett after only 24 seconds. This half was going to be tough for
Carterton as there were no substitutes and a couple of players had taken a
knock or two, but they played excellent football with lots of good passing
movements and awareness. The defence totally frustrated the Bicester
forwards by intercepting everything thrown at them, and then passing the
ball out of trouble with ease. Carterton earned a few corners in this half
but were unable to get the ball past the Bicester keeper. There was a
glimmer of hope that Carterton would snatch a late equaliser and it would
have been fully deserved especially as all the players were on top form and
playing as a team should do. Unfortunately the whistle went for the end of
the game and the result stood at 3-2 to Bicester.<br>
Now for a well
earned rest over the Christmas period until it all starts again in the New
Year. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all players and spectators.
Match report
from W&DYL Web site…..On a crisp and sunny Sunday afternoon at the BSA
where, just for a change the wind wasn't howling across the playing fields,
Bicester, down to their last 11 fit players, adopted the seasonal goodwill
mentality, gifting Carterton 2 chances in the first 4 minutes, both of which
were converted well. <br>
Carterton took the kick off and shocked the Bicester team by scoring twice
inside the opening four minutes. The first came from a Charlie Collins
clever chip over the Bicester defence that Oliver Chowns ran onto, taking it
round the keeper and placing the ball into the empty goal. The second was
created by Patrice Guillois who chipped the ball to the far post for Aaron
Robins to knock in. By this time Carterton were playing good football with
lots of passing moves and frustrating the Bicester players. Fortunately
Bicester started to get their game together immediately and forced one goal
back, on 8 minutes, as a dangerous corner from Andrew Ingram was put into
his own net by an under pressure Carterton defender. Bicester pressed for
the equaliser and it came on the 15 minute mark, a precision through ball
from Darren Eyles setting up Callum Green who calmly slipped the ball past
the advancing keeper. Carterton were indebted to their keeper Danny Chapman
on two occasions as he made good blocks, but it wasn't long before Bicester
took the lead, the move starting from a Carterton corner, and this time
Callum Green turned provider as his through ball was taken on by Andrew
Ingram who carried it to the edge of the box before tucking it into the
corner of the net. Bicester had several more chances to increase their lead
as the half drew to a close, but couldn't find a way past the keeper.
Despite the half time team talk, Bicester started the second half as they
started the first but this time Rafael Garcia-Krailing eased the early
pressure by saving the shot comfortably. Bicester then squandered chance
after chance to keep the game in the balance, Sam Jenkins, Callum Green,
Andrew Ingram, Josh Hunt and Daniel Pettit all going close to settling the
Bicester spectator's nerves, but the Carterton goal remained intact and
disappointingly, after 5 goals in the first 20 minutes, we were to see no
further scoring.<br>
Congratulations to both sets of lads who played out an entertaining, if
sometimes feisty, game but all of who shook hands at the final whistle. Man
of the match for Bicester was John Holt, Parent player of the match going to
Jacob Merrill. |

Under 13 Knock
Out Cup 2nd Round …..Bicester Town Colts 4 v 0 CFC U 13
Match report by
Robert Green…..This cup fixture was played at a fast pace throughout the
match with chances going to both teams. Unfortunately Carterton found
themselves on the receiving end of some strong football but they can reflect
upon missed chances as it was not a one sided match as the score line may
suggest.
Bicester started
the proceedings and straight away went on the offensive catching Carterton
out. Within 3 minutes Bicester had taken the lead when a shot from the left
was stopped by Danny Chapman but only for a forward to slot the ball home.
It wasn’t until 10 minutes into the match that Carterton attacked the
Bicester goal. From a Jack Green corner Aaron Robins and Matty Lee had goal
bound shots blocked by the Bicester keeper. After this the football was
played up and down the pitch with chances for both teams. Ollie Hawkins saw
his shots stopped by the Bicester keeper, with Bicester going close on a few
occasions only to see shots go wide or saved. On the stroke of half time,
Bicester extended their lead to 2-0 when they shot low into the net.
The second half
did see a Carterton improvement where they did battle for the ball and made
some good passing moves. It was the goals that were missing to boost their
confidence. It was inside the first minute of the second half when
Carterton were awarded a penalty for a foul. Matty Lee took the penalty and
lifted the ball to go over the keeper but it also ended up over the bar. A
lucky let off for Bicester. Carterton still pushed forward, looking to
score but were caught out on 44 minutes when Bicester launched a counter
attack and scored to make it 3-0. Some good battling by Carterton in the
middle of the pitch saw them intercept a lot of Bicester moves with Charlie
Collins leading by example. Carterton came very close to scoring in the
59th minute when Jack Green panicked the Bicester keeper but saw his shot
headed off the line, onto the post and away. Bicester scored their 4th
on 63 minutes once again by launching the counter attack and using their
pace to run through the defence. With 5 minutes to go, Carterton had a free
kick just outside the area. Patrice Guillois struck a sweet low shot to the
right hand post only to see the keeper gather it cleanly.
The final
whistle went and Cartertons cup run had come to an abrupt end. |

CFC U 13 1 v 4
North Leigh
Match report by
W&DYL Web site…..Given the dismal conditions both teams deserve a huge
amount of praise for this performance.
In the early stages of the first half there was little to choose between the
two sides, though Carterton had some good opportunities to open the scoring
with Ollie Hawkins & Matt Lee shooting narrowly wide. North were slow in
getting their passing game together, though when they did it work to good
effect, the 1st goal coming from one such move which saw Tom Weedon's
speculative shot skidded off the slippery surface into the back of the net.
North soon added a second from a similar move, Scott Saunders putting in Tom
Weedon who scored at the second attempt after the Carterton keeper had
pulled off a great save from his original shot. Undeterred Carterton fought
back strongly, being inspired by their hard working captain, and could count
themselves unlucky to be two down at the break.
The second half continued in similar fashion, with both teams working really
hard to gain possession in the blustery cold conditions. Carterton got
themselves back into the game when their striker got to a loose ball first,
then going onto hit a fine high looping effort into the net. The next goal
of the game was always going to be decisive and it went in North's favour. A
great move started with North's keeper Sam Oliver finding James Minchin wide
on the left who passed the ball nicely inside to Josh Burnham, an eager Jack
Meagher latched onto a great through ball before going onto to drill
unstoppable effort high into the net. Carterton still tried hard to get back
into the game, but found North's central defender Hayden Morse in fine form
in his first full game back after a long lay off. The unfortunate Carterton
keeper had to be replaced, after bravely saving at the feet of James Turner,
soon after this North grabbed a fourth with a great effort from Josh
Burnham, he curled a shot into the net from a narrow angle after playing a
neat one two with Aaron Bowerman. Carterton nearly got a second late on with
a great free kick from twenty yards which dipped agonizingly over the bar.
Both sides should be commended for playing out a hard fought game, in tough
conditions, with great commitment and excellent sportsmanship throughout. |

Launton Boys
Match report
from W&DYL Web site…..Carterton entertained Launton Boys at Kilkenny Lane
for a tightly fought match that finally saw them win their first game of the
season. The score line does not totally reflect the game as it was a very
even match, however Carterton were able to make their shots count whilst
Launton Boys were kept at bay by some heroic goalkeeping by Danny Chapman.
Launton kicked the game off but were soon to be under immense pressure from
Carterton when Oliver Chowns, Ollie Hawkins and Matty Lee all had attempts
saved in the first few minutes. Launton began to counter attack and soon
were penetrating into the Carterton goal mouth but defensive play by Dael
Campbell, Nathan Godwin, Harry McEnnis, and Alex Collett stopped them
getting shots away. The first goal came on 25 minutes when Jack Green played
the ball through the Launton defence for Ollie Hawkins to pounce on it and
put the ball into the net after the keeper had parried the first shot. The
next 10 minutes saw Launton launce 4 attacks but could not get the ball past
Danny Chapman. Garry Larner was defending well to further frustrate the
Launton attackers, whilst Richard Johnson was placing some good balls down
the right wing. On the stroke of half time it was Carterton who scored to
make it 2-0 when Matty Lee tucked the ball away after the keeper had blocked
Ollie Hawkins shot<br>
Previous matches had seen Carterton allow teams to come back at them in the
second period but they stood firm and stretched their lead. On 46 minutes
Ollie Hawkins put the ball into the box for Matty Lee to grab his second of
the match. A minute later Launton had narrowed the lead to 3-1 when a high
shot went above a jumping Danny Chapman. Launton were denied a second goal
moments later when Danny tipped the ball onto the cross bar. A Launton
corner caused panic in the goalmouth with the ball being cleared by Patrice
Guillois. Launton continued to push forward with Danny running out of box to
successfully tackle the rushing forwards. There were good passing movements
by Carterton down the left wing with Charlie Collins proving a great asset
with his excellent tackling and ball play. On many times he put the ball
between the Launton defence for Carterton players to run onto, but the final
shots were either just wide or over the top. The last 5 minutes was still
frantic with Launton looking to score again but were unable to. Instead it
was Carterton who grabbed a late goal from a scrambled Launton defence,
following a corner. The ball bounced off both many players before Matty Lee
pounced on the ball and drove the ball into the net for Carterton's fourth
and his hat trick.
The final whistle went and Carterton were jubilant in getting their first
league win of the season. Launton looked dejected but they gave a good
performance. Well done everyone. |

Easington Sports
Match report
from W&DYL Web site…..This match lived was certainly one not to forget and
once again proved that football can be a funny old game with Carterton
dominating the first half and Easington coming back in the second. Both
teams had lost their previous matches so were determined to make amends. A
glorious November day was had as the mist cleared to leave the sun shining
for the entire match.
Carterton were certainly the better of the two sides in the first half. On 6
minutes it was Ollie Hawkins who put Carterton in front by managing to get
his foot onto a bouncing ball just in front of the keeper. The ball looped
over the keeper and into the net. The next 10 minutes involved lots of
goalmouth activity but Easington could not find a way past Carterton's Danny
Chapman. It was Charlie Collins who helped set up the 2nd Carterton goal. He
knocked the ball through to Garry Larner who shot to the left side of the
keeper on 18 minutes. There were further chances for Carterton but the
Easington keeper kept out shots from Matty Lee, Charlie Collins and Ollie
Hawkins. Danny Chapman was also being tested in goal and kept Easington at
bay along with good defending work from Alex Collett, Dael Campbell, Richard
Johnson and Jack Green. At half time the score was 2-0 to Carterton.<br>
The second half was a complete change. Easington changed their style to an
all out attacking strategy. This was to work in their favour and on 53
minutes scored their first goal from striker Josh Bowden. Three minutes
later it was all square at 2-2 after Danny made a great save and the ball
bounced off the bar onto an Easington foot and in. Carterton tried to play
the ball up the field but Easington were reading the game well and
intercepted the passes. Easington had the ball kept in Carterton's' half for
long periods and should have took the lead on 61 minutes. A looping shot
came off the post and straight to a player on the 6 yard line, who then put
it over much to the relief of Carterton. However, on 66 minutes they did
take the lead after rushing through the defence. Dael Campbell came to the
rescue on 69 minutes to clear the ball off the line when it looked as if a
goal was a certainty. The subsequent corner did see Easington finish the
game by scoring from a volley 4-2.
The final whistle went and not many spectators expected the result to change
so much in the second half. Well done to both teams for a very entertaining
match. Easington scorers were Rory Ronaldson, Josh Reilly and Josh Bowden
(2). Easington Sports man of the match Elliott Hillman |

KO Cup
…..Chipping Norton Swifts 3 v 2 Carterton
Match report by
Bob Green…..Carterton travelled to Chipping Norton hoping to continue where
they left of the previous week and aim for a win. This was going to be
tough on the team as they could only field 11 players due to injuries.
This was
certainly a game of two halves where Carterton dominated the play in the
first half and went into the break 2-0 up. However, they could not maintain
their dominance in the second half and Chipping Norton fought back to snatch
the game 3-2.
The weather was
unusually warm for the time of year with lots of sunshine and no wind.
Carterton kicked off and played great passing football. In the first 10
minutes Carterton had shots from Dael Campbell, Charlie Collins and Jake
Griffiths. Swifts had very little play and managed to get the ball into the
Carterton penalty area on 12 minutes with Harry McEnnis clearing the
danger. Danny Chapman got his first real touch when he stopped the Swifts
attack with a one on one, pulling off a great save. That was really the
last attack the Swifts had as Carterton took over. On 13 mins Garry Larner
took the ball down the left side and blasted his shot past the keeper into
the side netting. 2 minutes later he repeated the same feat but this time
his shot clipped the near post and in 1-0. Carterton laid an onslaught on
the Swifts goal with shots coming in from Oliver Chowns, Jack Green and
Ollie Hawkins. On the rare occasion of Swifts attacking Richard Johnson,
Matty Lee, Garry Larner, and Harry McEnnis all defended calmly. Just before
half time Ollie Hawkins ran onto a through ball and gently lobbed the keeper
for 2-0.
The second half
began with Swifts taking control. The Carterton defence were beginning to
work harder and Danny Chapman was finding himself with more one on ones with
the Swifts forwards. Carterton had a couple of attacks during this 15
minute spell but could not finish the moves off. On 52 minutes Swifts beat
the Carterton defence and put the ball across the goal and into the net
2-1. 4 minutes later Carterton made a defensive error and allowed Swifts
space to equalise 2-2. Carterton tried to push forward but could not find
the momentum to grab a third goal. Instead it was Swifts who pushed for a
winner and got it after a goal mouth scramble with 5 minutes to go. The
last few minutes were made even harder for Carterton when Danny Campbell had
to leave the pitch for treatment, after a poorly timed tackle by the Swifts
forward, leaving 10 players on the pitch. Unfortunately Carterton could not
get a third goal and the final whistle went.
Overall
Carterton played some really good football with accurate passing and moving
into positions off the ball. This style of play will get better over the
next few matches and their winning ways will begin again. Well done |

KO Cup round
1…..Carterton 11 v 2 Ducklington
Match report
from W&DYL Web site…..Carterton welcomed Ducklington to Monahan Way for the
Knock Out Cup 1st Round. This proved to be a very entertaining game, played
in a friendly manner and included lots of goals.
This was a match
where Carterton had to kick start their season. Unfortunately Ducklington
didn't want to make it easy and the first few minutes saw them dominate
possession and on 4 minutes they moved the ball into the goalmouth and
struck home high into the net to make it 1-0. This made Carterton wake up
and they instantly replied. From the centre circle they moved the ball down
the right for Oliver Hawkins to cross the ball with pace into the box only
for a Ducklington player to put it past the keeper for an own goal 1-1. Lots
of great football saw Carterton have complete control and on 6 minutes Jack
Green made it 2 1, closely followed by Oliver Hawkins running onto a ball
played by Garry Larner to make it 3 1. On 8 minutes a short corner was
played to Matty Lee who shot over the keeper to make it 4 1. The next 10
minutes saw much Carterton possession without Ducklington threatening. On 18
minutes Aaron Robins made it 5 1, as he calmly lobbed the ball over the
keeper.
Carterton
defence were still untroubled but when Ducklington did push forward Charlie
Collins, Dale Campbell, Harry McEnnis, and Dael Campbell defended really
well, frustrating the Ducklington forwards. Charley had a great shot on 27
minutes which was saved by the Ducklington keeper, only for Oliver Hawkins
to strike the ball in the direction of the net. This subsequently ricochets
off the defenders to make it 6 1. Ducklington never gave up and were
determined to score. One of their players got the ball on the half way line
and dribbled the ball down the left hand side and cut into the box. The shot
hit the post and out for a goal kick much to Carterton's relief. Just before
half time Aaron Robins get the ball on the left and picks out Oliver Chowns
in the box who whacked it into the net for 7 1.
The second half
was certainly nowhere as comfortable for Carterton as the first half.
Ducklington came out strong and worried the defence. Carterton seemed to hit
a lull and the fluent passing had gone onto the backburner. Danny Chapman
(Carterton Keeper) had suddenly found himself busier than before. On 51
minutes Ducklington broke through the defence and went round Danny before
slotting the ball home 7 2. Carterton reshuffled the team and with some
touchline guidance began to play good football again. On 56 minutes a
Carterton attack went out for a goal kick. The goalie kicked the ball
straight to Matty Lee who kicks it towards goal with Aaron Robins running in
and getting the final touch to make it 8 2. Ducklington still remained
positive and surged forward to try and grab more goals but were kept at bay.
Carterton's Charlie Collins intercepted the ball midway in his own half on
65 minutes and played it high into the Ducklington half for Oliver Hawkins
to run onto and hit the ball from 20 yards into the net 9 2. The final 5
minutes saw Carterton score a further 2 goals. A great move by Charlie
Collins shortly followed, who fed the ball to Oliver Chowns. He knocked it
to Oliver Hawkins who scored his hat trick 10 2. Finally a free kick was won
by Carterton near to the penalty area, which Matty Lee took and scored by
shooting high over the wall and keeper 11 2 |

Bicester Town colts
Match report
from W&DYL Web site…..Looking resplendent in their new kit, courtesy of
bestpricecar.com, and playing on Carterton's pitch, Bicester came out of the
blocks, kicking downhill with the wind slightly behind them, like a Range
Rover Sport off the Cumnor Oxford forecourt as Andrew Ingram hit the post
within the first 5 minutes. The first half turned out to be an exciting end
to end affair, Carterton looking dangerous on the break, and they should
really have taken the lead as a rebound from a shot onto the post failed to
be converted. Ingram, playing in a more advanced role than normal due to
Callum Green's injury forced absence, looked lively and put Bicester into
the lead on ten minutes as he picked up a rushed clearance and cooly slotted
the ball into the empty net from 25 yards. Carterton came back at Bicester
and equalised 10 minutes later as a looping cross evaded the goalkeeper and
defence to be well finished by the Carterton player. However, it wasn't long
before Bicester regained the lead, a cross from Josh Hunt being
unfortunately deflected into his own goal by a Carterton defender. To add to
Bicester's limited striking options, goalscorer Andrew Ingram then left the
field with a gashed leg, and just before half time Carterton were again
level following a flowing move and clinical finish.
In an even start to the second half, Rafael Garcia-Krailing, Defender of the
Bicester goal, had to be alert to save well from a free kick from just
outside the box, and at the other end Rory MacFarlane went close for
Bicester. Midway through the second half Bicester started to fire on all 6
cylinders, a great through ball from Sam Jenkins sprung the offside trap,
and Ingram, back on after treatment, accelerated onto the ball like a well
tuned Jaguar, and finished well for his second of the game. The Bicester
nerves were finally calmed as Ingram completed his hat-trick with 15 minutes
to go, finishing with aplomb after being put through by a precision pass
from Daniel Pettit, Rory MacFarlane then finished the scoring after neat
interplay between Ingram and Josh Hunt put him through one on one with the
keeper.
An entertaining game played in good spirit by both sides, thanks go to
Carterton for their hospitality. Parent's Man of the Match was awarded to
Andrew Ingram, with the Manager's award going to Josh Hunt. |

Banbury Town
Youth 3 v 1 CFC U 13
Match report by
Robert Green …..Carterton visited Banbury Town looking to win their first
game of the season. Unfortunately, Banbury had other ideas and came out the
victors in a very wind swept match. The strong cross wind played a major
part in upsetting the tempo of both teams and making attractive football
very difficult.
The first 10
minutes saw a lot of good Carterton possession with shots from Matthew Lee,
Charley Collins and Aaron Robins. Another attack by Carterton was broken
down by Banbury who counter attacked and put the ball into the net on 12
minutes. 1 - 0 to Banbury. Carterton continued to press forward with the
ball being fed into the Banbury box but the final touch was missing.
Charlie Collins was unlucky on the half hour when his shot hit the bar and
bounced to safety. Banbury did get some possession but did not really
threaten the Carterton goal until just before half time, but their attempt
was cleared by the Carterton defence.
The first 10
minutes of the second half began just like the first except this time it was
Banbury who kept possession. Within 20 seconds of the restart Banbury homed
in onto the Carterton goal but keeper Danny Chapman managed to put the
attacker under pressure and the shot went wide. Carterton had a free kick
in their own half and put it over the Banbury defence for Oliver Hawkins to
lob the ball over the keeper into the net for 1 – 1. The next 5 minutes saw
Banbury on the attack with Carterton defence Alex Collett, Richard Johnson,
and Garry Larner working very hard to deny them. On 43 minutes Banbury
scored by a header direct from a well struck corner to make it 2 – 1.
Carterton continued to push forward and could not get the ball into the
net. With a string of corners Banbury defended very well and Charley
Collins saw his headed shot, direct from a corner, stopped on the line by
the Banbury keeper. The final 5 minutes saw Banbury occupying too much time
in the Carterton half and kept Danny Chapman very busy. The final action
came on 78 minutes when Banbury had a corner that was only half cleared. An
unchallenged Banbury player struck the ball from the 6 yard line and scored
to make it 3 - 1.
The final
whistle went and Carterton had once again made lots of chances but paid the
penalty for not getting the ball into the net, but their overall play was
very good with lots of passing and good tackling.
Well done
everyone.
This following
report taken from W&DYL Web site.....Banbury Town played host to Carterton
on a bright but very "blustery" afternoon. The high winds had a very
profound effect on Banbury Town's normal style of fast attacking football.
Both teams had to adapt to the weather. At half time Banbury went in with a
one goal lead after a beautifully executed through ball by Josh Southall was
picked up by Tom Glossop who placed it in the back of the net.
The first 10
minutes of the second half began just like the first except this time it was
Banbury who kept possession. Within 20 seconds of the restart Banbury homed
in onto the Carterton goal but keeper Danny Chapman managed to put the
attacker under pressure and the shot went wide. Carterton had a free kick in
their own half and put it over the Banbury defence for Oliver Hawkins to lob
the ball over the keeper into the net for 1-1. . As the game progressed
Banbury started to keep the ball "down" and were rewarded with a second goal
header by Keiran Scott after a sweet corner kick taken by Jack kettle. It
remained 2 1 for some time until a superb cross by Dion Pain was placed into
the box of which Carterton failed to clear. The loose ball was picked up by
Josh Southall who hit the ball sweetly into the net. Both teams played the
game in good spirit. Banbury Town's managers man of the match was Josh
Southall - their parents player of the match was Tom Glossop |

Wychwood
Match report
from W&DYL Web site.....The two promoted sides met on the opening day of the
season producing an end to end game. This fine win avenged last seasons
opening day defeat by their host's. Carterton pressured the Wychwood goal
for the first 25 minutes with a string of chances but could not find the
back of the net. Shots from Aaron Robins, Oliver Hawkins, Ethan West, Oliver
Chowns, and Harry McEnnis went just wide, cleared off the line and also
saved by the Wychwood keeper who was kept very busy. The first goal came
some ten minutes before half time, Ben Edwards firing in a free kick some
thirty yards out - over 'keeper Dabby Chapman's glove. The sides then
settled to produce some good football with chances coming at both ends.
The second half
got under way with Andrew Bull double the Wychwood's lead. The next 5
minutes were very busy for the Wychwood keeper who kept guard until Jack
Green shot over him from 18 yards to make it 2-1. Second half sub Conrad
Palejowski then hit a double to put Wychwood in command. Although Carterton
kept attacking it was Wychwood who should have gone further ahead missing a
penalty. Carterton never gave up and kept pushing forward and a second goal
came on 65 minutes when Jack Green got his second directly from a corner.
There were good debuts for Carterton's Tom Deeley and Morgan Harry with Matt
Twin performing well in midfield along with the rest of the Wychwood team.
The battle continued but no further goals were scored during the match. The
final score was 4-2 to Wychwood and the Carterton were left frustrated by
all their missed chances. Well played everybody. |
