14.03.2009 Carterton 0 v Bardwell 4

07.03.09 Swindon Spitfires 7 v Carterton FC 0

Again despite the result, Carterton girls had a very enjoyable morning, passing the ball very well.  Hats off to Swindon even at this age showing top formation, skills and football knowledge. Our next game vs. Bardwell, well done girls.

31.01.09 Carterton FC 0 v Swindon Spitfires 9

As always Carterton battled to the very end, on the coldest of days, against a giant of a team, in physical stature and reputation. They didn't disappoint on both fronts. All the girls deserve credit on a really tough day alround, they kept laughing.

17.01.09 Carterton FC 0 v Oxford City 12.

I was informed by the OFA this week that football at this age should be about discovering the game in a fun enviroment. Carterton certainly enjoyed the match regardless of the score against a strong Oxford City team with two exceptional players, who nearly kicked every Oxford ball. Carterton to their credit never gave up with a battling performance to the end.

22.11.08 Summertown Stars 2 v Carterton FC 7

08.11.08 Bardwell 5 v Carterton FC 1.

Carterton traveled to Bardwell hoping for their first victory.  With the girls improving with every match today was no exception!  They started brightly but unfortunately Bardwell slipped through our defence after just two minutes and Carterton were one goal down.  Carterton responded brilliantly and continued to defend well, against some tough opposition.  Bardwell were not having it all there own way though and a superb run from Genevieve Miles was nearly converted. Carterton maintained the pressure and won a further two corners but with no goal, Bardwell’s confidence grew.  The girls fought hard to keep themselves in the game with some excellent defending from Roza Jura, superb saves by Georgia Amer and an all round outstanding team performance. Unfortunately with only five minutes to go until half time Carterton’s concentration slipped and they conceded 4 goals in just over four minutes.  At half time the girls came off five nil down and feeling a little downhearted.  The management rounded the girls up for there half time talk and a new belief spread through the side.
Half Time:- Bardwell 5 v Carterton FC 0.
The girls headed out for the second half full of confidence and from the off they looked like a different team.  Although Georgia had to make a few saves the ball spent a lot more time in the oppositions end.  All the pressure paid off five minutes into the second half when a superb right footed strike from Lucy Dearman nestled in the top of the Bardwell net.  The game continued with end to end football but Carterton held on to win the second half 1-O!!!

25.04.09 Carterton FC 0 v Swindon Town 1

Last game of the season and we were hoping to go out with a win against 2nd placed Swindon. We knew from our first meeting we could hold our own so we expected a really tight game. Nakita started in goal, Georgina and Lauren in defence, Charlotte, Natalie and Chloe in Midfield and Rosie and Molly up front; Annabel, Hannah, Mollie and Millie started as subs.
The first half was an end to end affair with the defenders coming out on top. Swindon created a couple of chances and Natalie nearly managed to turn a corner in but apart from those the majority of the play was in the middle third of the pitch.
The second half continued much in the same way as the first, both teams wanted all 3 points and with the game looking as if the spoils were going to be shared the deadlock was finally broken. From a Swindon corner Jordan ‘O’ Donaghue fired an unstoppable shot into the bottom left hand corner of the Carterton goal. With only 5 minutes left we piled on the pressure but were unable to really test the Swindon keeper.
This was a disappointing end to the season but the girls should be proud of their achievements. As a team and as individuals they have grown and improved game on game. Well done girls.

18.04.09 Tower Hill Vixens 0 v Carterton FC 5

Rescheduled from January we finally managed to play our return fixture against Tower Hill. We knew only a win would be good enough as at the start of play we were only ahead of Wantage in the league by goal difference. Nakita started in goal, Georgina and Annabel in defence, Charlotte, Natalie and Mollie in Midfield and Rosie and Molly up front; Chloe and Lauren waited eagerly on the sideline.

We kicked off and tried to get an early goal to settle the nerves, after some great pressure Molly lashed the ball from the corner of the box only to see it shake the crossbar. We continued to dominate and were rewarded with a goal when Rosie met Molly’s corner on the volley and fired it into the net. The Tower Hill response was immediate and they were unlucky when the woodwork came to our rescue. 2 minutes later the same thing happened at the other end when Natalie was denied by the post but Molly was on hand to tap the ball in to double the lead. Once again Tower Hill pushed forward and were doubly unlucky when the post saved Carterton on a further two occasions.  Half time arrived with the score 2 - 0.

The second half started much as the first and with Chloe, Natalie and Mollie all running at the Vixens defence whenever possible it seemed another goal would always be on the cards. With 25 minutes gone the ball was cleared from a corner and Charlotte hit the ball from the edge of the box to score her first of the season. The game now went from end to end with both teams creating chances but unable to find the finishing touch. Rosie brought up her second and our forth when she calmly slotted in from close range. With the clock counting down Natalie bravely pounced on the ball during a goal mouth scramble to also bag her first of the season. The final whistle followed shortly. This was a harsh game of football, had the woodwork not saved us in the first half the score could have been different, however you have to take your chances when they come and today we did that.

What was particularly pleasing today was that the goals were shared around

Girl of the game was a difficult decision, Lauren was particularly solid in defence, Chloe is gaining in confidence and getting better each week and Rosie brilliantly finished the two chances that came her way, however the award went to Natalie for an excellent second half, she tackled, tracked back ran at defenders and rounded it all off with her first goal of the season, well listened at half time Natalie.

04.04.09 Chinnor Youth 1 v Carterton FC 2.

We were welcomed to Chinnors football ground, the weather was over cast and cold, but all the girls were up for the game. Hannah Durnford started in goal for Carterton with Nakita Alder waiting to take over. Georgina Harriss, Annabel Light in defence and Charlotte Grant in the middle. Up front for Carterton were Rosie Herridge on the left, Natalie Webb on the right and the striker for today’s match was Molly Bishop. Warming the bench was Mollie Little and Millie Jackson. The game kicked off and Chinnor went directly on the attack testing Hannah. The ball went from side to side with both teams giving their all. Millie came on for Rosie and Mollie came on for Natalie. Towards the end of the first half one of Chinnor’s players made an excellent chip over Hannah’s head and it was 1 nil to Chinnor. The game restarted again but still Carterton could not find the net.

The second half started and after a team talk, to the Carterton side they played like a different team with loads of talking and passing on the pitch. Molly Bishop slipped through the Chinnor defence and found the net. The game kicked off again and it was equal with all the girls playing their heart out. A goalmouth scramble saw Rosie slip the ball past the Chinnors keeper. Yet again Chinnor came back on the attack testing the Carterton defence but to no avail. The match ended and it was 2 -1 to Carterton. Both teams had played a great game, girl of the game went to Mollie Little for her  threatening play and her excellent run through the Chinnor defence well done Mollie and well done girls

28.03.09 Carterton FC 0 Oxford Bluebirds 0

What a change from last weekend’s glorious weather, on an overcast and blustery morning we welcomed Oxford Bluebirds, a team who always give us a very hard game to Monahan Way. After a goalless draw earlier in the season this was never going to be a high scoring game. The match started with Nakita in goal, Georgina and Annabel in defence, Charlotte, Mollie and Chloe in Midfield and Lauren and Molly up front, Natalie, Millie Rosie and Hannah shivered on the sidelines waiting for their chance.
We kicked off and with the advantage of the wind went looking for an early goal. The ball was flying from end to end with Oxford looking the more dangerous; Rosie Anderson was a constant threat but was well marshalled by Georgina and Annabel with Charlotte always there to mop up. Substitutions were made throughout but neither side were able to make a breakthrough.
Oxford kicked off the second half and assisted by the wind piled on the pressure. We were playing some good football but were unable to find that final touch to really test the Oxford goalie. As the half went on Oxford had us on the back foot but thanks to some great goalkeeping from Nakita and Hannah and strong defending from Georgina and Annabel the game remained goalless. Going on our previous encounters I think a draw was always on the cards and on the whole was a fair result. Both teams gave 100% and should be proud of their performances, well played girls.
Girl of the game was shared by Annabel and Georgina for some great defending, and for returning to what they were doing every game earlier in the season.

21.03.09 Carterton FC 2 v Wantage 3

We welcomed Wantage to Monahan Way on a beautiful spring morning and were quietly confident about getting back to winning ways having won every previous encounter, but then records are there to be broken. We started with Hannah in goal, Georgina and Lauren in defence, Charlotte, Natalie and Rosie in Midfield and Molly up front, Chloe, Mollie, Annabel and Nakita started as subs.
Wantage kicked off and were playing the better football; what we didn’t want was to concede an early goal but that’s exactly what happened as some poor marking left Imogen Barry unmarked on the edge of the box and she confidently fired the ball into the top corner. Our response was immediate and we piled on the pressure. Molly took the ball off a Wantage defender and stroked it past the keeper to bring the scores level. The match was now an end to end affair with neither side being able to stamp their authority on the game. With half time looming Imogen Barry managed to lose all the Carterton defenders to poach her second of the game. Half time arrived and the girls were told a few home truths about staying tight to their opposition and not leaving players free.
We started the second half and I couldn’t have asked for a better response. We dominated for long periods and had a succession of corners. As the pressure increased a Wantage defender handled the ball in the box and Molly stepped up to blast the ball past the Wantage keeper. With so much possession we were growing with confidence but this was short lived when Wantage gained a corner and scored an identical goal to their second to bring up Imogens hat trick. We piled on the pressure and were awarded a second penalty for hand ball even though Rosie had already put the ball in the net. Molly stepped up again but this time fired the ball at the Wantage keeper who stuck out a leg to turn the ball away. We had a string of corners and from one of these Annabel hit a great shot from the edge of the box; it had goal written all over it until it unfortunately hit Natalie on the head. With minutes to go Molly curled a shot narrowly wide but despite so much pressure we were unable to find an equaliser. Well played Wantage, this was a great game of football to watch. Once again we played some great football but lapses in concentration have let us down. We must now try and remain focused and gain maximum points from our remaining 4 games.
Girl of the game was awarded to Charlotte Grant for her energy and drive, and for realising she can now push forward and support the midfield.

7.03.09 Marston Saint Angels 1 v Carterton FC 1.

After three defeats on the bounce we were looking to get our season back on track with a victory over the ‘Angels’. It was a lovely morning and Marston’s pitch was in a beautiful condition. For the second match running we only had 8 players available; we started with Nakita in goal, Georgina and Annabel in defence, Charlotte, Millie and Rosie in Midfield and Molly up front, Chloe kept the bench warm. We kicked off and were immediately put on the back foot. Marston attacked from the start and kept us penned in for long periods and keeping Nakita busy. I don’t know why but it always seems to take us a long time to get going when we play away. Chloe replaced Millie on 10 minutes. As the half progressed we had more of the play with Molly, Chloe and Rosie all having good chances but all unable to beat the impressive Kat Lossnitzer. Millie came back on to replace Rosie and we continued to create chances but half time came with score all square.
Marston started the second half and we started where we left off piling on the pressure. Molly twice split the Angels defence to find Rosie who was unlucky not to find the net. Millie replaced Molly and on 27 minutes Chloe fed Charlotte who found an unmarked Rosie who made no mistake, 1-0.
We continued to press and could have added more, Rosie, Molly, Chloe, Millie and Charlotte all going close. With full time approaching Nakita was tested as Marston piled on the pressure looking for an equaliser. A string of corners kept us pinned back but the girls coped admirably. With less than 2 minutes on the clock the ball somehow found its way to Lizzie Foulkes at the back post and she turned the ball past the diving Nakita for the Marston equaliser. You could see the elation from the Marston supporters and the disappointment from Cartertons. With barely time to restart, the game ended 1 – 1.
Well played girls, once again you gave your all. We created enough chances to win the game, on another day we could have had 6 or 7. I believe we did enough to gain all 3 points but once again learnt the lesson that you have to remain switched on and focused till the final whistle.
For the second match running Girl of the game went to Nakita Alder. Her confidence and command of the goal area continues to grow. She kept us in the game for long periods of pressure and was unlucky to be beaten in the last minute.

21.02.09 Swindon Town 4 v Carterton FC 1

On a beautiful spring morning we were warmly welcomed to Highworth with both teams looking for 3 points. With only 8 players available I took the decision to play 8 a side as I believe that this best suits our style of play. We don’t normally travel well and it was stressed that we needed to give ourselves a fighting chance by not conceding early on. The girl’s response was fantastic, no quarter was given and every ball was fought for. Swindon started strongly but with solid organisation and Nakita commanding the goal area the game was kept goalless. The game was an end to end affair, Cartertons best chance coming when debutant Chloe McCulloch’s shot went agonisingly wide. Mollie and Natalie were driving down the wings and Georgina, Annabel and Charlotte were strong in defence. On 15 minutes Amy Jolliffe managed to split our defence and fire past the advancing keeper. Half time arrived and the girls were encouraged to go out and play in exactly the same way we had played in the first half.
Our response was immediate, we pinned Swindon back into their half and were unlucky not to equalise when Natalie’s cross enabled Molly to lose her defender to fire narrowly wide. You could sense an equaliser was coming and when Chloe’s lay off found Natalie, her first time cross was taken by Molly who brilliantly flicked the ball past her marker to fire past the Swindon keeper. Expectations were now high and there was a belief amongst the Carterton supporters that we could go on and win the game. The match now became an end to end affair with both teams looking to take the lead. I honestly believe we looked the more likely to score but with 16 tired legs battling for every ball Swindon got the decisive breakthrough. With only 4 minutes left on the clock Swindon managed to find the back of our net 3 times. Amy added 2 to her previous goal to bring up her hat trick and Hannah Lucker also got her name on the score sheet. Once again I don’t believe the score reflected the game, but that’s football, well played Swindon.
Well played girls, you couldn’t have done any more, you played your hearts out and as Steve, the Swindon manager said you didn’t deserve to lose, I am very proud of you all.
Girl of the game went to Nakita Alder for continually thwarting the Swindon Strikers, Commanding the goal area and using her voice to let everyone know she was coming for the ball.

31.01.09 Didcot Casuals 3 v Carterton FC 2.

Today’s game was a potential 2nd place decider, after a goalless draw in October we were expecting a hard fought battle.  Wearing our new shirts, so kindly sponsored by ELM Contractors we were looking to christen them with a win. Didcot kicked off and put us under pressure straight away. Within 5 minutes we were a goal down and on 12 minutes things got worse when the lead was doubled. For the rest of the half the ball went from end to end but Didcot definitely had the upper hand. The half time talk was one way. The girls were told that they needed to get stuck in and play as a team, something we didn’t do in the first half.

We kicked off and the response was immediate, it was like a different team, we were first to the ball, we talked to each other and Didcot looked worried. With so much possession and no goals it looked like it was going to be one of those days but with the clock working against us Molly Bishop was brought down after going past 3 defenders. Molly stepped up and the resulting penalty was hit high and hard and although the Didcot keeper got her hands on the ball the power took it over the line. As we looked for an equaliser we were hit by a sucker punch when the ball was unfortunately turned past our goalie by a Carterton defender. We continued to push forward and were rewarded when Lauren Whitehill fired the ball through a crowed goalmouth to narrow the lead. Despite more pressure we were unable to get the equaliser I believe we deserved.

In conclusion I think we learnt that it is no good starting to play in the second half against a team with the quality of Didcot. We need to perform from the start and keep going to the end.

Girl of the game went to Molly Bishop for her excellent first touch, great dribbling and selfless running.

17.01.09 Carterton FC 0 v Swindon Spitfires 4.

On a windy Saturday morning Carterton faced up against Swindon Spitfires. This was the first game back after the New Year and the girls were eager to get started. Molly Bishop and Rosie Herridge were the strikers with Millie Jackson and Natalie Webb in midfield the back three were Georgina Harriss, Lauren Whitehill with Charlotte Grant in the middle. The goalies for the game were Hannah Durnford and Nikita Alder. The subs were Mollie Little, Lizzie Monk and Annabel Light. Carterton were the first to kick off and immediately went on the defensive a goal mouth scramble saw Carterton go one nil down to a soft goal after one minute. Carterton kicked off again but this time it was much more of an equal game. After 6 minutes Swindon Spitfires came back again with yet another goal. The rest of the first half was again equally played with all the girls giving their all. The second half started very much as the first with Carterton on the defensive another goalmouth scramble saw Carterton go three down to an own goal. The game started again with the same vengeance both teams giving 100% Carterton strike force tested the Spits defence time after time but to no avail. On the 37th minute Spits made it 4 to wrap up the game.  This was a good game for Carterton who gave their all considering the last time the two teams met the score was 10 nil. Carterton should be proud of themselves for this game was well fought. Girl of the game went to Charlotte Grant for covering every part of the pitch and for some awesome defending, well done girls.

06.12.08 Carterton FC 3 v Chinnor 2

After some promising results lately we were expecting another 3 points today against a lowly placed Chinnor, they came but only thanks to 2 late, late goals. We won the toss, kicked off and went straight on the attack. Chinnor pushed us back and deservedly scored through Elle Kaplicz on 4 minutes. Our response was swift and when the Chinnor goalie could only parry Natalie Webbs shot Molly Bishop was on hand to level the score. Chinnor defended deep and when goalie Harriet Dodds put in some massive kicks they attacked in numbers. We were struggling to deal with these clearances and Chinnor deservedly increased their lead on 12 minutes when Elle got her second. Half time came and the girls were left in no doubt as to what was required in the second half after such a lack lustre performance.

We started the half attacking but were unable to find a way past the commanding Chinnor goalie; she was quick off her line, very verbal and her big kicks continued to cause us trouble. The chances continued to come but we were unable to find the back of the net. With 4 minutes to go Millie Jackson collected the ball from a goal mouth scramble and her powerful shot made the back of the Chinnor net ripple, much to the relief of all the home supporters. We continued to press and had numerous chances before Millie got her second with a minute to go to wrap up the game.

You have to feel sorry for Chinnor, we were poor but they battled and scrapped and were within 4 minutes of a fine win; but we never gave up and kept pushing forward till the final whistle, well played girls.

Girl of the game went to Millie Jackson for digging us out of a big hole with 2 great last gasp goals.

29.11.08 Carterton FC 2 v Tower Hill Vixens 0

On a freezing winters morning we entertained Tower Hill for the right to progress to the quarter finals of the cup. We pressed from the off but were unable to break down the Tower Hill defence. As the game progressed we began to dominate but could not find a way through. The deadlock was broken when a goal kick was hit straight to Molly Bishop who ran in on goal to open the scoring. With half time looming we continued to press but were unable to increase our lead.

The second half kicked off with Tower Hill looking to get back into the game. We were playing some great football but could not find the final touch. Natalie Webb hit the post twice before the lead was finally increased. Natalie ran half the length of the pitch beating 3 players before crossing for Molly to control and drive the ball past the Tower Hill goalie. Molly was now looking for her hat trick and brilliantly dribbled through 4 players before poking her shot just wide of the post. We continued to press with Rosie Herridge and Molly Little both having shots before Charlotte Grant met a corner on the volley which was cleared off the line. On another day we could have had 7 or 8, but a wins a win!

This was a hard fought game on a very cold morning. Credit to both teams who gave their all for 40 minutes, well played girls.

Girl of the game went to Molly Bishop for some excellent hold up play, continually causing the Tower Hill defence trouble and scoring 2 goals.

22.11.08 Wantage 0 v Carterton FC 3

On a crisp and windy morning last season’s cup finalists locked horns once again. Wantage started the stronger, dominating the first 10 minutes; Hannah Durnford was in excellent form and was the reason the game remained scoreless. As the half progressed our confidence grew, sweeping forward but unable to find the finishing touch. Molly Bishop opened the scoring on 14 minutes nudging the ball home during a goal mouth scramble. We continued to press hard and Molly brought up her second rounding 2 defenders before firing home for her second. We were now playing expansive football and Molly brought up the third and her hat trick beating 3 players before thumping the ball into the back of the net.
The second half kicked off with both teams looking to gain the upper hand. There were chances at both ends, Mollie, Millie, Natalie and Molly all had chances to increase the score. Credit should go to both goalies who were on top form and the half remained goalless.
Once again this was a hard fought game with Cartertons greater strength in depth proving decisive. Well played both teams.
Girl of the game went to Hannah Durnford for an excellent display between the sticks.

15.11.08 Carterton FC 2 v Marston Saint Angels 0

On a blustery winters morning both teams were looking for 3 points. In an explosive start Carterton went straight on the attack and gained a corner after 30 seconds. Molly Bishop whipped in 3 corners on the trot, when the third was cleared straight to Georgina Harriss on the corner of the Goalies area she lashed the ball through a packed goal mouth into the back of the net, a dream start. Carterton. This gave us confidence and the self belief we seem to have been lacking in previous matches. We continued pushing for another, spending a good deal of time in the Marston half. A deserved second came when Charlotte Grant found Rosie Herridge from a long throw in, Rosie cleverly set Molly free and she made no mistake lashing the bouncing ball passed the keeper in the seventeenth minute.
The second half was a much more open affair with both teams attacking, Marston took advantage of the strong wind to pin Carterton in their own half for long periods. This was a reverse of the first half with some strong Carterton defending to keep the score sheet clean. We did have further chances with Georgina, Molly, Natalie, Mollie and Lizzie all having attempts on goal. This was a particularly pleasing result, back to goals on the scoreboard, a third clean sheet in a row and more importantly a win off the back of one defeat and 2 draws.
Girl of the game went to Lauren Whitehill for her continual no nonsense and solid defending.
This was a hard fought match with both teams coping well with the difficult conditions, well played girls.

18.10.08 Oxford Bluebirds 0 v Carterton FC 0.

Oxford Bluebirds were the only team to beat us last year so we knew that we were in for a hard match, and they didn’t disappoint us. The game started fast and furious with both teams attacking and defending almost simultaneously with the ball going from end to end. Hannah Durnford and Nikita Alder were the goalies while Georgina Harriss, Courtney Curle were the defenders and in the middle slightly in front was Charlotte Grant. Carterton’s defence was tested regularly but stood firm. Up front for Carterton was Lizzie Monk on the left and Natalie Webb on the right, Molly Bishop was the lone striker. Warming the bench for Carterton was Rosie Herridge and Annabel Light. The game was hard fought and very physical with Charlotte taking a tumble with the Oxford striker, both girls got up and shook hands. Rosie came on for Lizzie and Annabel came on for Courtney but the game still remained at stalemate. The second half started much the same both teams giving their all.  Well played girls this was a good advertisement for girls football. Girl of the game went to Natalie Webb for her display of attacking the Oxford goal.

11.10.08 Carterton FC 0 v Didcot Casuals 0

Off the back of a 10-0 defeat to Swindon the last thing we needed was a visit from a high flying Didcot. Once again we were blessed with glorious sunshine and it was important to get back on track. The game started very scrappy with the ball flying around the middle section of the pitch and with both teams challenging for every ball. The ever dangerous Gemma O’Donovan was well marshalled by Georgina Harriss and when she did get through Charlotte Grant was on hand to tidy things up. With Didcot playing 3 at the back Molly Bishop was finding it hard up front. When a chance did come Molly played in Natalie who pulled a good save out of the Didcot Goalie. Half time came up with the game goal less.
The second half continued much as the first with chances few and far between. Didcot did manage a few shots on target but Hannah and Nakita were comfortable in goal. With seconds to go Molly managed to lose her markers for the first time and hit a great shot from the edge of the box, unfortunately it went straight to the Didcot keeper.
We knew this was going to be a difficult game and that’s exactly what we got. We now need to work on breaking teams down when they play so tightly at the back. Well played girls, this was an excellent advertisement for Girls Football.
Girl of the game was awarded to Georgina Harriss for brilliantly taking the always dangerous Gemma O’Donovan out of the game.

27.09.08 Swindon Spitfires 10 v Carterton FC 0

After losing twice to the Spitfires last season we knew we were in for a hard game today; what we didn’t expect was the final score line. With only one sub this was always going to be a tiring game especially seeing as most of it was spent chasing the ever impressive Swindon. Knowing what we did it would have been easy to go and put 7 players behind the ball to try and play defensively, that is not how games are won. I am very proud that the girls continued where we left off last trying to pass the ball and develop the game from the back. Swindon thoroughly deserved their 10 goals, having said that on another day with maybe a bit of luck we might have had a couple ourselves. At times we produced some slick passing, carving through the Spitfires defence but were unable to find the finishing touch. Let’s hope we learn a few lessons from this. One fact that deserves mention is that we conceded more goals today than the whole of last season, well played Swindon. No girl of the game was awarded as all the girls played their hearts out.

20.9.08 Carterton FC  2 v Tower Hill Vixens 0

Glorious sunshine welcomed in the new season as we hosted Tower Hill. Most of our pre season training was spent working on passing and moving and today we would find if this hard work had come to fruition. We started the game with Nikita Alder in goal, Georgina Harris and Lauren Whitehill in defence with newly appointed Captain Charlotte Grant playing slightly in front. Natalie Webb and Millie Jackson were in midfield with Molly Bishop up front. Annabel Light, Mollie Little, Courtney Curle, Hannah Durnford and Rosie Herridge started as subs. Tower Hill kicked off and were immediately put on the back foot. On 6 minutes Molly latched onto a shot from Natalie to coolly steer the ball past the Tower Hill keeper. This early goal allowed us to settle and what followed was a period of sustained pressure, interspersed with some slick passing throughout the team and when necessary some good old fashioned defending. Half time arrived with the score still 1 – 0.
The second half was a more open affair with both teams creating chances. Carterton continued to pass the ball well but were unable to break through the stubborn Tower Hill defence. With 1 minute remaining on the clock the game was wrapped up; after winning the ball in midfield Charlotte found Natalie who cleverly laid the ball off to Molly to take on the last defender and roll the ball across the keeper to double the score. This was a hard fought game and on another day we could have scored a lot more, praise should go to the Tower Hill goalie for keeping the score down.
Swindon Spitfires should prove a sterner test next week but if we continue to play the ball around like we did today the future looks bright.
Girl of the game was awarded to Charlotte Grant for leading the Team from the front and displaying a never give up attitude.

18.04.09 Carterton FC 4 v Tower Hill Vixens 8

A chilly bright morning brought Tower Hill to Carterton for our final match of the season.  Cartertons starting line up was Jenna Steptoe in goal, Anise Da Silva Martins and Sophie Barnes in defence, Ellis Warner, Georgina Graham and Megan Rockett in midfield and Hollie Merriman as striker.  Susan Oliver and Charlie Spice as subs.
The match started with Tower Hill straight down the middle of the Carterton defence and nearly scored from the off!  This should have woken the girsl up but they remained a little sluggish!!  Tower Hill on the attack scored on five minutes and again on ten minutes.  Carterton tried fighting back but were lacking enthusiasm today but scored on the fifteenth minute with a goal from Hollie. Tower Hill knew they had the chance to beat us so continued attacking - scoring another goal on eighteen minutes.  Just before half time, with a very soft shot on goal, Georgina managed to beat the Tower Hill keeper.
The second half began with Tower Hill straight back on the attack with a shot being deflected, giving a corner, which resulted in another goal for Tower Hill.  Two more goals in very quick seccession put Tower Hill 6 - 2 in the lead.  Carterton tried to respond but didn't make the most of their chances until Hollie took a corner and managed to curl the ball into the net for a goal.  Tower Hill took the centre and responded with a goal of their own.  Hollie scored again on forty four minutes but again Tower Hill scored again immediately!  Carterton tried to get back into the match with a shot from Susan going over the bar.
Well played Tower Hill - looking forward to the six a side tournaments.
Player of the Match went to Hollie Merriman.

11.04.09 Chinnor Youth B 1 v Carterton FC  3.

Carterton went to Chinnor knowing that they only needed one point to win the league.  Making a change from their normal line up, they started by putting Sophie Barnes as striker and Charlie Spice on left wing, the only two outfield players not to have scored this season. Georgina Graham was on right wing, Ellis Warner in midfield, Anise Da Silva Martins and Susan Oliver in defence and Jenna Steptoe in goal.  Hollie Merriman and Megan Rockett started as subs.
Chinnor kicked off the first half, but Carterton went straight on the attack showing their determination from the start.  A scrappy first half played mainly in the Chinnor half.  the first good chance came from GG but hit the side netting.  Carterton were awarded several corners which were nicely crossed in but neither Sophie nor Charlie were able to find the back of the net. On 15 minutes Anise, came from defence, took the ball down the centre, beating one or two Chinnor players, with a good left foot shot, scored.  More chances came Cartertons way but were unable to score.  Chinnor found their way into the Carterton half a few times but were unable to get past the Carterton defence.
Half Time:- Chinnor Youth B 0 v Carterton FC 1.
The second half began with our top scorer this season, Hollie coming on to replace Sophie.  Megan replaced Ellis and Charlie went into her best position of defence.  Chinnor, feeling they were not beaten yet came back at us with some good play and created a couple of chances of their own on the break. 15 minutes into the second half and Hollie made a run down the centre and did what Hollie does best - scored.  Five minutes later, with a cheeky shot from close range, Hollie chipped the ball over the keepers head for her second of the match and Cartertons third. Carterton let their guard down a little too early and five minutes before the final whistle, Libby March, for Chinnor scored after miscommunication between the Carterton defence. Well played Chinnor.
Full Time:- Chinnor Youth B 1 v Carterton FC 3.
Player of the match went to GG for finding her form again!!

04.04.09 Cholsey Bluebirds 2 v Carterton FC 1.

It was a nice bright morning for Carterton to go to Cholsey for the much anticipated Semi-Final of the U12 Cup!! All of the players were really keen to play the match and wanted to win.
Jenna Steptoe was in goal, Anise Da Silva Martins and Sophie Barnes in defence, Georgina Graham, Ellis Warner and Megan Rockett in midfield and Hollie Merriman as striker. Susan Oliver and Charlie Spice as subs.
Cholsey kicked off and put on the pressure straight away with some good passing, they controlled the match for the first five minutes with a shot going wide. The match then settled down with both teams battling hard in all positions, then with a nice one, two from Hollie to GG and back, Hollie found herself with only the keeper to beat , and taking her time with the shot, left the Cholsey keeper with no chance. Cholsey took the centre and pushed hard and made the Carterton defence have to work, they pushed the ball out for a corner, which when taken landed at the feet of Daniella Springett and from a tight angle beat Jenna, making the score 1 - 1. Neither team were giving in and shots came from all the Carterton forwards, Cholsey were the same, with neither team finding the back of the net. Then with 5 minutes remaining in the first half. Ellise Rorke made it 2 -1 to Cholsey.
In the second half the match continued in the same way, both sides giving everything they had. Towards the end Carterton seemed to be winning more possession but were unable to find the back of the net. The whole team played their hearts out and were so disappointed when the final whistle went. But they were still up for a friendly after the match.
Congratulations to Cholsey, and good luck in the final.
The Cholsey management were very complimentary about our team after the match, Thanks to them.
Player of the Match went to Sophie Barnes for excellent play.
Very well played girls!!!!!

28.03.09 Carterton FC 3 v Didcot Casuals 0

A cold and windy morning and Carterton welcomed Didcot Casuals to Monahan Way. Cartertons starting line up was Hollie Merriman as striker, Georgina Graham, left wing and Sophie Barnes on the right wing, Ellis Warner in the centre, Anise Da Silva Martins, left back, Megan Rockett, right back with Jenna Steptoe in goal, subs were Charlie Spice and Susan Oliver.
Didcot won the toss and elected to kick off. Right from the start both teams were up for the game with hard battling on both sides, with shots coming early on from Hollie and GG for Carterton, both going wide and high. Anise and Megan were defending well to keep Didcot out, too hard at times with Anise going in and injuring both herself and Didcots No 8, both came off with Anise being replaced by Susan. Didcot took the free kick into the box which Jenna collected up nicely. Then with the wind in our favour and a nice kick the ball went well into Didcots half which Hollie managed to control nicely around a defender and a good shot put Carterton one nil up on 15 minutes. Carterton went straight back on the attack with another shot from GG being stopped by a Didcot defender, but it came back and hit GG on the nose. Another injury - GG off for Charlie to come on. Ellis took the throw, into the middle, Sophie passed to Hollie, who gave the keeper no chance, to score her second of the match. the remainder of the first half was hard fought on both sides, neither giving in.
HT Carterton FC 2 v Didcot Casuals 0.
The second half, with Carterton kicking off,but Didcot were not about to give up and the Carterton defence were dong well to keep them at bay and Jenna was having to work harder than she has all season with a couple of good saves. Then in the 38th minute, with a good cross from Hollie, Susan finished off nicely, everyone laughing at her face as she came celebrating back to her own half. Didcot still not giving up, came down the right wing and got right into the Carterton area, with Anise again going in hard and colliding with the Didcot player and then landing on our keeper. the ref gave Didcot a penalty. Anise and Jenna were both hurt but after a minute both said they wanted to play on. Didcots penalty went wide and the score stayed 3-0 to Carterton.
A good hard fought game, best of luck to Didcot for the rest of the season.
Player of the match went to Anise for hard defending, a little too hard at times, Well done, second match running she has got it. Well done girls!!!

15.03.09 Carterton FC 3 v Tower Hill Vixens  2. CUP QUARTER FINAL.

A bright sunny morning saw Tower Hill come to Carterton for our Cup Match.  Carterton went on the attack right from the off with Anise Da Silva Martins scoring from a long range free kick in the first 10 minutes.
Tower Hill kept pushing us back but with good defending and good goalkeeping were unabe to score.  Carterton attacked when they were allowed to but unabe to score any more in the first half.
The game continued in the second half as it had in the first, with Carterton having the first break about 10 minutes into the second half with a goal from Hollie Merriman, Tower Hill came straight back at us with a goal.
10 minutes from the end, after good play from both sides, Georgina Graham scored, we thought it was all over but Tower Hill immediately repllied with a goal of their own.  An anxious last couple of minutes to the final whistle!!!!!!!!!
An excellent and thoroughly enjoyed game by both players and spectators!!!

14.03.09 Summertown Stars 1 v Carterton FC  6

Our first trip to Summertown Stars.  Carterton dominated most of the match although Summertown did not drop their heads once and battled hard.
First goal came from Georgina Graham in the 4th minute.  6 minutes later saw Anise Da Silva Martins get her first of the match.  Georgina made it 3 0 in the 18th minute.  Play continued back and forth for the remainder of the first half.
The second half began with Summertown battling on and Vicky Zettestrom scoring for Summertown with a good shot.  In the 48th minute Megan Rockett scored and Anise, with her second of the match, scored in the last minute.
Player of the Match went to Ellis Warner.

28.02.09 Carterton FC 6 v Chalgrove Cavaliers 1.

A nice morning to welcome Chalgrove to Carterton for the first time.  The Carterton line up was Jenna Steptoe in goal, Megan Rockett and Susan Oliver in defence, Georgina Graham, Ellis Warner and Anise Da Silva Martins in midfield, with Hollie Merriman as striker.  Charlie Spice and Sophie Barnes starting the match as subs.
Carteron kicked off and went straight on the attack with Hollie having a very long range shot which was on target but lacking in enough power!  Chalgrove came straight back at us with good passing and a good shot at goal which tested Jenna!!  Chalgrove continued pushing well and Susan and Megan were both doing well at clearing anything that came their way.  The break came from a GG pass to Anise in the middle to score her first goal on 10 minutes. The girls then really started to push and the passing got better and in the 13th minute, Anise, with a good shot, got her second goal.  Chalgrove, not letting us have it all our own way, continued to battle and between their defence and their keeper doing some good saves, they kept the ball out.
Carterton, on the attack again, saw both GG and Hollie hitting the post, then with a good cross from GG, Hollie caught the ball nicely to score her first of the match.  Then, straight from the centre, Chalgrove put some good passes together and with a nice shot from Jessica Daniels, she beat our keeper.  The game continued with good play from both sides until Ellis made a run down the middle with a pass to Hollie who scored to make the half time score 4 - 1.
It was decided that with a comfortable lead, we would put Charlie and Sophie on, to go left and right wing, as they are the only two girls who have not scored this season, apart, obviously, from Jenna.  Chalgrove kicked off, still showing good determination, and pushing us very hard but our defence would not let them get through.  Charlie and Sophie, in positions they had not played in before, were keen to show what they could do, and were both pushing hard and crossing the ball in, until eventually Sophie crossed to GG who finished it off nicely.  Then with a long run in with the ball, Ellis came through the middle and a nice shot that went in well to make the final score 6 - 1.
This score did nothing to show how well Chalgrove battled.  It was a hard, well fought match that all enjoyed!
The player of the match went to Sophie Barnes, although she didn't manage to score it was not through lack of trying!!!!

21.02.09 Kennington 2 v Carterton FC 3.

A nice sunny morning at last for our first league match of 2009 to play Kennington away.  Being half term, not all the team were able to play.  The starting line up was Jenna Steptoe in goal, Charlie Spice and Megan Rockett in defence, Georgina Graham, Ellis Warner, Anise Da Silva Martins in midfield and Hollie Merriman up front.  Susan Oliver as sub.
Kennington kicked off and play went up and down in midfield to start, then Carterton, twice in close succession, broke through, once for GG to hit the left post and then for Anise to hit the right post.  Then just on 10 minutes Kennington on the attack, got a throw in close to goal, the ball came in and with miscommunication in our defence, Kenningtons Sophie Fields scored her first goal!  Carterton went straight back on the attack and with shots coming from all the forwards, Kenningtons goalie was having a very good game!!  Then with a nice bit of communication and passing Hollie managed to score.  Kennington attacked and our defence kicked the ball out for a corner.  From this Sophie Fields scored her second goal.
Carterton came back with a good cross from GG to Anise, which she hit nicely, it caught the underside of the bar and bounced down.  the ref said no goal, the spectators nearby said it was!!  Still it did not count!!  In the first half we dominated most of the play, but luck was not on our side and we were 2 - 1 down.
The second half started wiht Susan in defence and Charlie was off for a while.  Carterton kept pushing with many shots but no goals, then Kennington went on the attack and Jenna had to make some good saves, our defence pushed the ball back up and Carterton were on the attack, Megan found herself with the ball, unmarked, in the Kennington area, with a nice shot made the score 2 - 2 on the 35th minute!  The girls pushed harder and the communication and passing got better, Hollie got the ball outside the area by quite a bit and with a lot of power hit the top of the net leaving the Kennington goalie no chance.
The rest of the match we pushed with shots from Hollie, GG an Charlie, now up front, but nothing came of it.  Kennington did not give up and continued to play well.  On the whole a very good game. Unlucky to a much improved Kennington side.
The Player of th Match went to Anise for good attack play and hard defending.
Well done girls, keep it up, you are doing so well this season.

31.01.09  Carterton FC 4 v  Banbury United 0.

It was good to play a game at last after the last two games were postponed due to the bad weather!
Carterton welcomed Banbury for the first round of the Cup.  Cartertons starting line up was Jenna in goal with Leigh Ann and Charlie in defence, GG, Ellis and Anise in midfield and Hollie up front.  Sophie, Megan and Susan as subs.
Banbury kicked off the first half and broke straight into the Carterton half and put the pressure on down the left side with determination, Charlie went in and put the ball off for a Banbury throw in, Carterton looked a bit shaky at the start but this seemed to wake them up and they settled down, started to play better and apply some pressure.
Hollie broke free and went straight through the middle and put a good shot for the first goal to Carterton in the fifth minute.  There was some good midfield play from both sides until Carterton broke again, with good communication and passing between Hollie, GG and Anise, Anise got the ball on her left foot, which the Banbury keeper got straight in the face, Anise finshed off to give Carterton their second goal, but the keeper, who was doing so well had to come off with a bloody nose!  The rest of the first half continued with some good battling on both sides.
HALF-TIME  Carterton FC 2 v Banbury United 0.
Carterton kicked off the second half with some changes, Megan for Anise, Sophie for LeighAnn and Susan for Charlie,  Carterton applied the pressure from the whistle with GG scoring two goals in quick succession,  Banbury kept battling on with good spirit and didn't give up.  Another change with LeighAnn and Charlie up front with Megan.  They all continued playing well but were unable to find the back of the net!!
Well Done Banbury!!
It was a good game with a lot of improvement from the newer players.
Carterton Player of the Match went to Charlie for a vast improvement in play!

Didcot Casuals kicked off and Carterton went on the attack straight away.  Didcot were defending well and clearing the ball to the Carterton end.  The ball worked its way back up to the Didcot end with a shot by Georgina Graham stopped by the keeper.  It was Didcots turn to put on the pressure, Carterton defended well with Jenna having the ball in her hands, then it was midfields turn to have a go with good passing, we had a lot of good shots from Hollie, Anise, Georgina and Ellis, but the keeper made some very good saves.  Didcot went on the attack again and with a lack of communication in our defence, Didcot slipped through and Angela Freeman scored for the home team, putting Carterton behind for the first time this season.
The goal boosted Didcot and the rest of the first half was up and down with good defending from Sophie and Charlie who had replaced Susan and Megan in defence.

The match continued with good defending and goal keeping from both sides. but with 10 minutes to go Hollie broke away and with a good shot, scored. A quick change around saw Megan up front with Anise in defence, we settled down for a 2-1 win, then with 2 minutes to go, we went on the attack and pushing hard Georgina crossed to Megan who put the ball in the back of the net to score her first goal for the team.
Very good, hard fought match on both sides, can't wait for the return match.  Much improvement from our new players.

Kennington struggled to break free from their area as they were put under pressure from Ellis Warner and one of our new players Charlie Spice who was debuting in midfield. With some great passing from Anise and Hollie it came to Georgina who hit a cracking shot only to be saved yet again. With 8 minutes left of the game, Kennington broke free and pushed forward only to be stopped in their tracks with some superb defending from Susan Oliver and Anise, leaving Carterton walking away with a 2-0 victory and a quiet day for Carterton’s keeper Jenna Steptoe.

27.04.09 Carterton FC 5 v Bloxham 1

Carterton invited Bloxham to play their last match of the season at Kilkenny Lane and after rain all day, we were pleased that the skies cleared, as the girls took their places. Bloxham kicked off and immediately put a long ball down the field but this was easily collected by keeper, Katie Light. Carterton took up the attack with Marta Dyet on the wing, a wonderful turn and a perfect cross, was met by Lucy Henshaw and it was 1 – 0 to Carterton with less than two minutes on the clock. (Déjà vu for the Carterton fans, as they thought back to Saturday’s game!) However, Bloxham were quick to apply pressure and five minutes later won a corner. The ball crossed, unchallenged, in front of the goal and was tapped into the net to equalise. A battle in midfield saw Hayley Wrightson on top form with some strong defensive work and some excellent through balls to Marta and Lydia Miles, who had come on for Lucy. Becci Hodgson coped admirably with frequent breaks down the wing. Then Megan Glyn, in determined fashion won the ball once more in midfield; she passed wide to Marta, who forced a good save from the Bloxham keeper, then scored from the rebound to bring the score to 2 – 1 to Carterton. Carterton continued the pressure, only for Bloxham to make a break, bringing Katie to the edge of her goal area to make a great save. Bloxham were unlucky not to equalise from the resulting corner, as the ball hit the top corner of the post. Carterton finished the half with another cracking cross from Marta, beautifully finished by Lucy.
Half time score: Carterton FC 3 v Bloxham 1.
Carterton kicked off the second half in attacking mood. Bloxham, strong on the ball and communicating well on the field, worked hard to defend. A diving save denied Lydia before Jade Pitts got her foot cleanly to the ball for a perfect strike into the far corner of the goal. Pressure now from Bloxham but Gayna Eeles, increasing in confidence every week, volleyed a clearance; Katy Brooks put in many of those short, accurate passes, at which she excels and Sarah Derrick pushed the team forwards with her long throw ins. Meagan Hill showed excellent spirit and enjoyed a tough battle ... and then it was Lydia flying down the wing, shooting for goal. Her shot was saved but Lydia followed though to score from a very sharp angle. Both teams continued to play at a fast and furious pace to the finish; both teams had further attempts on goal but the score remained Carterton FC 5 Bloxham 1.
‘Girl of the Game’ was awarded to Lucy for playing her role perfectly – holding up the ball, allowing her team mates time to take up attacking positions, before laying the ball on.
Well done girls, a great game to finish the season!

25.04.08 Kidlington Youth Tigers 1 v Carterton FC 3

It was near-perfect conditions at Stratfield Brake for this critically important match. Kidlington Tigers were already warming-up in a real display of attitude with 40-minutes still to go before kick-off. Carterton got things underway, but Kidlington swiftly took possession and were first to have a go at goal. Katie Light bravely came off her line to save it. Carterton went straight back at them; an excellent cross from Marta Dyet met the feet of Lydia Miles for an easy finish. One goal up with barely two-minutes played! Incredibly, within seconds of the first an almost duplicate set-up occurred; another perfect cross, this time to Lucy Henshaw, put them the two-goals to the good. It was like watching an action replay. Only a few minutes, Katy Brooks set up another chance; great first touch by Hayley Wrightson, knocking it on to Marta, but it came to nothing. In defence, Jade Pitts was typically consistent, inspiring confidence whenever her skills were called upon. Her free-kick, from an off-side offence, set up yet another for Lucy with a strike just wide of target. The second-quarter was not so good with Carterton letting Kidlington back in to the game. It was only strong defence from Jade, Sarah Derrick and Katie in goal that protected their lead as the whistle was blown for the end of the first half.
Half time score: Kidlington Youth Tigers 0 v Carterton FC 2.
The half-time talk obviously did some good. Although Kidlington had the re-start, it was Carterton that took control. All players played well and it became a bit of a mid-field battle for possession. Lucy was first to get a decent chance and was only a bit right of the post. When Kidlington were on the attack, unfortunately, Gaynor Eeles instinctively put her hands up to prevent the ball hitting her face; conceding a free-kick to Kidlington. It was well struck, but low enough for Katie to get both hands to it. As the game entered its last 10-minutes, Marta showed great control yet again, this time taking the glory for herself with a cracking finish straight to the back of the net … three-nil. Kidlington still showed some fighting spirit and with a good phase of possession managed to get the ball to Molly Gardiner for what transpired to be the last goal of the game.
Final Score: Kidligton Youth Tigers 1 v Carterton FC 3.
Yet another show of strength in the closing games of the season. Tim gave the choice of Girl-of-the-Game to the team to decide, with shouts of “Sarah”, Sarah Derrick was awarded the accolade for tight marking of a good player and consistently timing her tackles well.

20.04.09 Carterton FC 9 v Ducklington 1

This evening, Carterton managed a comfortable win against a spirited Ducklington side. With Katie Light unwell and unable to take her position in goal, Lydia Miles stepped in and the girls had to reshuffle. Carterton kicked off and immediately applied the pressure with Marta Dyet making an early run down the wing but it took Carterton some time to settle into their game. Then Megan Glyn, strong and determined, got the ball to Katy Brooks, who put a lovely ball into the box, subsequently kicked out for a corner. Marta’s corner found Megan, who passed to Lucy Henshaw and she found the back of the net to make it 1-0. Soon after, Hayley Wrightson hit a powerful ground shot from outside the box to double the score. Ducklington rallied but the Carterton defence, Becci Hodgson, Jade Pitts, Sarah Derrrick and Gayna Eeles quickly closed down any attack. Suddenly, Marta was storming down the wing with the Ducklington defender hot on her heels but realising she had time, Marta stopped and made a delightful pass to Lucy, who slotted the ball home. Again, Ducklington fought back, with Lydia having to come to the edge of her area to clear the ball. Marta set off on another run but was beaten by the post; Lucy earned her hat-trick and the first half finished Carterton FC 4 Ducklington 0.
At half time, Graham (standing in for Tim this evening) made some changes – Lydia came out of goal and took her place out wide, ready to push forward; Gaz put on the goalie gloves and Katy dropped back to allow Becci to move into midfield (it must be said, she was not keen!).
Both teams came out confidently but it was Becci finding herself upfront, who got her foot to the ball – it hit the post and went in! We all knew she could do it! Carterton applied a lot of pressure and the Ducklington goalkeeper rose to the occasion making three good saves in quick succession, saving shots from Marta and Lucy. Another shot hit the post, bounced back and BECCI was on hand to put it in the net to bring the score to 6 – 0. Ducklington now enjoyed their best period of the game with break after break sometimes caught out by ‘off-side’ and frequently thwarted by a calm and confident, Jade. Carterton broke back and were awarded a free kick. Lucy found Lydia and she made no mistake scoring with a powerful shot. At no point did the Ducklington girls let their shoulders drop and it was only a matter of time before they would get their reward. It came and they pulled one back with a shot from the edge of the box. Both sets of supporters cheered!
Carterton finished with another goal from Lucy and a goal from Jade in the last few minutes of the game. Final score: Carterton FC 9 v Ducklington 1
‘The Mums’ were asked to nominate ‘Girl of the Game’ and they decided upon Becci, who didn’t believe she could play in midfield but found that she could and indeed that she could score – twice! The girls were fully behind this decision, suggesting Becci’s name before the award was made.
Well done to all of the girls and indeed, to both teams.

06.04.09  Tower Hill Vixens 2 v Carterton FC 3

Two of the top teams met on a cold, windy evening at Tower Hill. With so much at stake, this promised to be a great match and it didn’t disappoint! Carterton kicked-off at 18:16 with the wind and slant of the pitch against them. Despite the conditions Carterton applied the early pressure; a good pass from Katy Brooks, playing on the left in mid-field found Marta Dyet, but it was a fairly easy save for Vixens’ goalie. Vixens returned fire with a good attack, earning them a corner. They struck the corner well leaving an easy finish for Grace Flake to put them ahead, one-nil, in the fifth-minute. Carterton quickly gained the equalizer with a near-perfect pass from Megan Glyn, to Marta, who ran and shot for a cracking goal. Just a few more minutes in and Katy got another good pass in, but it was slightly too long for Marta to get on the end of it. The Vixens were quick on the break and the wind and pitch rolled the ball quickly towards the Carterton goal. Katie Light was at full-stretch to save it. As the play continued to go end-to-end, it was Carterton’s turn with a corner won and beautifully taken by Marta, giving Jade Pitts the chance to strike. It was perfectly placed and put Carterton one ahead. Again Vixens speed on the break combined with the pitch and wind meant they came straight back at Carterton. In the final approach it was one-one between their striker and Katie in goal. Katie bravely came out to meet the attack and won the ball. Vixens came back again after some very physical mid-field battling. This time their Hayley Bennet made no mistake in getting the equaliser. The last ten-minutes of the half were full of attack and counter attack and some excellent football from all players. Meagan Hill was strong on the ball, with some great tackles, wonderful turns and tight marking of Tower Hill’s Charley Hamilton. Carterton had one more chance as Lydia Miles got a great cross to Marta, but the finish was just right of target.

Half-time Score: Tower Hill Vixens 2 v Carterton FC 2.
The wind and pitch were in Carterton’s favour for the second half, but it was also a challenge to adapt to the change. After a couple of attacks where the ball was sent too long, Carterton found the right way to work it in their favour. Megan, Becci and Hayley all battled hard and Katy got a lob on target and as Vixens defended the ball back it found Marta to finally stick it in the net to go a goal ahead. The rest of the match was equally action-packed and a joy to watch. Despite carrying an injury, Sarah Derrick was solid in defence; Gayna Eeeles and Jade worked hard to maintain their lead and Katie had to make an excellent save in the last few minutes. Real entertainment and a great game of football.
Final Score: Tower Hill Vixens 2 v Carterton FC 3.
Another tough decision for Girl-of-the-Game faced Tim. Every player showed real commitment and strength throughout the match. The final decision went to Katy Brooks for being in the right place at the right time, reading the game well and finding that extra pace when needed. Well done Katy!

04.04.09  Carterton FC 6 v Kidlington Tigers 1

It was a slightly late Carterton kick off at 10:36 in near-perfect conditions at Monahan Way. The weather was almost as bright as the start as Carterton opened their account within the first minute of the game. Sarah Derrick struck a great corner to the feet of Lucy Henshaw for an easy goal and early lead. A very lively first-half ensued with good football from both teams giving action at both ends of the field. Lucy came in to play again in the fifth-minute with a pass down the line to Megan Glyn who controlled it well, all the way to, and past, Tigers’ goalie to make it two-nil with just 5-minutes played! The Tigers responded, but Katie Light showed deft skill in reading their attack and safe hands, preventing Tigers scoring. There wasn’t long to wait for Carterton to regain control and a lovely cross from Megan gave another plum shot for Lucy to make it three-nil. Approaching the second-quarter Carterton were caught napping, leaving Tigers a direct route, but their shot was thwarted by another excellent save by Katie. Their next attempt, though was a different story, a strong attack was well-finished by Tigers’ Molly Gardiner to make it three-one. Tigers also finished the half creating more chances so credit to Katy Brooks and Jade Pitts in defence for keeping them at bay at the end of the half.
Half-time score: Carterton FC  3 v Kidlington Tigers 1.
Carterton looked strong at the start of the second half, but a bit of a misunderstanding in defence almost allowed the Tigers through. It was all warming up to an exciting phase of the game. Lucy, attacked strongly again, this time with a pass to Lydia deep in Tigers’ territory. Lydia showed amazing confidence and took time to place an un-stoppable strike at goal to make it four-one just eight minutes in to the second half. Megan was next to have another go, putting Tigers’ goalie at full stretch to make a one-handed save, right on the line. Some excellent passing was also to be witnessed from Jade with a long kick to Megan, in turn making a great pass to Lydia and on to Lucy, again the Tigers’ goalie had to work to prevent the goal … Shame that such good football was un-rewarded. It wasn’t long though before Lydia and Lucy put together another great combination to stretch the lead to five-one and gifting Lucy her hat-trick. Meagan Hill went on to finish the game in style, running from midfield with the ball and striking the back of the net to bring about a six-one victory.
Full-time score: Carterton FC 6 v Kidlington Tigers 1.
Girl-of-the-Game is always a difficult decision, but such a strong win with everyone playing very well, only makes it more difficult. One thing is clear though, without some critical saves the goal difference would not have been anything like as big as it was. Therefore Katie Light took the honours for reading the ball well and showing full commitment in goal.

28.03.09 Benson 2 v Carterton FC 2

Playing away at a windy Benson the match started with Benson kicking-off at 10:35. They created the early pressure against a somewhat depleted Carterton. Carterton were without substitutes and down to ten players due to Katie Light being too ill to take her normal place in goal. Whilst Benson took full advantage with Sharon Billingham scoring in the third minute, they were also very sporting when they took one of their players off when it became clear that Katie would not be taking any part. With numbers matched Carterton were quick to equalize with a fantastic free-kick taken by Marta Dyet in the seventh minute. It was beautifully struck from about five-yards outside the box, cleared Benson's wall and was well out of reach for their goalie. As Benson regained control Jade Pitts and Hayley Wrightson worked hard in defence to prevent them breaking through and managed to get the ball upfield for a good reply from Carterton, but it came to nothing as they found themselves off-side. Gayna Eeles battled hard after seizing the ball following Benson's restart, she managed to get it through to Lucy Henshaw, for a great strike, just right of target. Carterton continued good pressure winning a couple of corners and where normally they would have been described as well taken, the strong wind carried them out of reach. As Benson came back it was their turn to be caught off-side. Jade's restart was perfectly taken, straight to the feet of the fast running Lydia Miles causing Benson's goalie to stretch to stop a goal. With barely five-minutes left in the half it was all action; first Benson's Esme Beale had a great run and excellent strike to put them ahead. But Carterton weren't going to leave the half one behind and Lucy got a foot to a well taken corner to equalise.
Half-time score Benson 2 v Carterton FC 2.
Carterton kicked-off for the second and controlled the match well in all areas of play. Marta struck a great corner and made an incredible effort to create two more chances, but both were sadly unrewarded. It wasn't until fifteen-minutes in to the second half that Benson managed to get a goal-scoring chance. Carterton's defence was a little confused, and despite the Referee's belief that a goal had been scored, the linesman over-ruled as he had a perfect view of Sarah Derrick clearing it from the goal-line ... Well done Graham! The final quarter saw continued good play and Katy Brooks defended strongly to prevent Benson sneaking ahead in the last few minutes of the game, and so it ended as a draw.
Full-time Score Benson 2 v Carterton FC 2.
‘Girl of the Game’ was awarded to Gayna for great work-rate throughout

21.03.09 Kidlington Youth 3 v Carterton FC 0.

Well what a match … a real game of two halves. It was a beautiful sunny morning with a fair breeze blowing over Stratfield Brake. Kidlington kicked-off at 11:13 and were quick to apply pressure giving a real test to Carterton’s defence. Within the first five-minutes Kidlington had three strong goal-scoring chances but the combination of Hayley Wrightson, Becci Hodgson and Katie Light in goal stopped them in their tracks. The sixth-minute showed a change of fortunes; a fabulous pass from Jade Pitts made it all the way to the feet of Marta Dyet to give Kidlington’s goalie her first test. It was a relatively easy save. Next was Meagan Hill to place another great pass to Lydia Miles, but it was a chance to nothing as it drifted wide of the target. By the tenth-minute Kidlington were back in control and the pressure was intense. Katie showed great confidence and instinctive skill to prevent conceding any goals. Marta controlled the ball well to get a pass to Lucy Henshaw, who passed back to Marta and on to Lydia for another strike at goal … again a little wide of the mark. Kidlington were always quick on the break and the to and fro continued but without scoring anything. So the first half ended with an incredible display of football but nothing on the scoreboard.
Half-time Kidlington Youth 0 v Carterton FC 0.
The second half was a complete contrast. Carterton were feeling confident with the run of the pitch and the wind in their favour. Lydia capitalised on the conditions with a fast run and a pass to Lucy for a cracking strike at goal which ended up no more than one-foot left of the post. Kidlington were quick to respond and just three-minutes in to the second half their striker, Lauren Haynes, scored the first goal of the game. Catia Barbosa then went on to score in the fifteenth-minute to make it two-nil and Hannah Godwin sealed their victory with a third goal in the final minute of the game. Just a shame that the three goals were scored with none of the drama, nor intensity of the first half. There’s no denying Kidlington’s skill, but the score did not reflect the stern competition that Carterton gave them.

‘Girl of the Game’ was awarded by the parents to the team’s Captain, Jade, in recognition of her leadership skills.

14.03.09  Carterton FC  3  Bardwell  1

A strong wind blew into the faces of the nine players wearing the red shirts of Carterton U14s . Opposite were the eleven players wearing yellow, the ball at their feet waiting for the whistle to commence play.  With two players short Carterton knew they had a challenge in prospect against Bardwell.

Confident and composed play by Jade Pitts and Meagan Hill withheld the first attack from Bardwell and clearing brought Marta Dyet and Hayley Wrightson into play to quickly reverse the attack into the Bardwell box to put pressure on their goal.

Lydia Miles on the right winning a throw in, quickly taken by Sarah Derrick and picked up by Megan Glyn won Carterton their first corner. Megan struck a great cross into the mouth of the goal, cleared, but picked up by Jade and passed to Marta on the other wing to put another great cross back in, this time back headed out to Lucy Henshaw, swift passing to Hayley and a one, two with Megan, presented Hayley with a long distance opportunity and a measured shot over the head of the Bardwell goalkeeper into the back of the net. Excellent football and just 2 minutes into the game Carterton were one goal ahead.

Within a minute Bardwell bounced back and Katie Light was called to make a very competent save. Marta launched a stunning attack down the left hand wing, beating three players and a third attempt on the Bardwell goal was saved by the keeper. Midfield passing play with Lucy, Hayley, Megan and Marta all involved gave Lydia another shot on goal. On the break Bardwell were suddenly presented with an opening through the centre and a well taken goal set the score level within an action packed first 10 minutes of the game.

Katie in goal stopped a couple of Bardwell opportunities and Marta’s skill and speed throughout the first half was rewarded two minutes before half time with a successful strike after beating two players. At 2-1 down Bardwell kept up the pressure needing Sarah’s timely tackles on Bradwell’s strong, tall winger. The defensive positioning of Jade, Meagan and Sarah foiled an offside attempt that had put the ball into the Carterton net.

By the end of the first half Carterton had displayed a team effort with all of the nine involved and having fulfilled their role they were ready for a well deserved break.

Half time score: Carterton FC 2   Bardwell  1

An opening spell of skilful football for Carterton set up shots from Marta, Megan, Hayley and finally Lydia striking a  cracking goal a few minutes into the second half and a score of 3 -1 to Carterton.

With a battle of wills for possession between Lucy and her opposite number, the second half was filled with determined play by both sides. Bardwell also by then down to nine players, the space on the pitch presented many opportunities; from Jade’s well placed passes, Megan’s control of the centre ground and Lydia and Marta creating space wide on the wings, Lucy and Hayley working hard in front of goal and some skilful touches from Meagan and tackling from Sarah meant that Carterton had the main chances. However, when Bardwell won three corners Katie displayed real confidence when organising the defence of the goal mouth.

Carterton finished the game strongly winning two corners in quick succession; with a strong shot by Meagan, well saved by the keeper and Megan providing an opportunity for Marta’s final shot on goal hitting the side netting.  Marta’s work rate and skilful attacks deservedly won her the “girl of the game” and the whole team should be proud of their performance.

28.02.09 Marston Saints Angels 0 v Carterton FC 3

It was a slow and sleepy start to this second U14s league match between Marston Saints Angels and Carterton after a long mid-term break, with both sides working hard to find their feet, and a ball in constant confusion.  Marston attempted a couple of well-intended lobs into goal that went a bit over the top. In the nineteenth minute Lucy Henshaw opened the scoring with a penalty (twice-taken) to put Carterton one up, then the game went back to its decidedly slow to-and-fro. Marston tried to get even but were stopped each time by the stubborn defence of Jade Pitts, Becci Hodgson, Gayna Eeles and Sarah Derrick, and nothing was going to get the better of Katie Light in goal.
Half-time score: Marston Saints Angels 0 v Carterton FC 1.
After a few gentle suggestions from team-talk Tim, Carterton entered the second half in bolder spirit. Five minutes later Megan Glyn bravely brought her knee injury back onto the field and thence commenced the game in earnest. In mid-field, she, Hayley Wrightson and Meagan Hill kept the ball firmly in the Marston half and it was only a matter of time before Marta Dyet and her fancy footwork found Lucy to score her second goal, in off the post… two nil.
Full credit to Marston. There was still twenty minutes left and they were not about to give in. But what could they do against a team like Carterton who were now in full swing? Lydia down the right wing was a constant thorn in their side. Ten minutes to go and Marston concede another penalty. Has Lucy ever missed a penalty? Three nil.
What do you call it when the defence line and goalkeeper stop every attack, when the midfield keep the ball moving to the wingers who in turn keep the centre-forward well fed with opportunity? It’s called teamwork. And what do you call it when a referee maintains a game with equal fairness to both teams? He’s called Daniel Parsons.
Girl of the match for Carterton: Megan Glyn.
Full time score: Marston Saints Angels 0 v Carterton FC 3.

31.01.09  Tower Hill Vixens Red 1 v Carterton FC 3.

Carterton travelled to Tower Hill’s Thorney Leys ground for this cup tie. Under an overcast sky it was bitterly cold with a biting wind. Carterton kicked off just a minute or two after the scheduled 10:30 and cut through the cold air with a fine opening attack, showing real confidence from the start. Marta Dyet had a great run down the left and Jade Pitts had a very strong start, creating chances and defending well. This strong start continued with Carterton dominating play deep in Tower Hill’s half. A beautifully-struck cross from Megan Glyn, met the boot of Marta for a clinical finish, putting Carterton one-goal ahead with just four-minutes played. This seemed to wake Tower Hill up a bit as they were quick to come back, but Gayna Eeles’s defending stopped their attack in its tracks. The eighth-minute saw the game stopped by a number-two. Not a player’s number on this occasion, sadly the waste left behind by some inconsiderate owner’s dog! Dog-owners, please clean up after your pet. Right, back to the game; the eleventh-minute saw some great mid-field battling with Sarah Derrick coming out on top. However, it certainly was not all one-way; Tower Hill managed to break through, but the ball drifted to the safe hands of Katie Light to prevent the equaliser. As the game entered its second quarter April Millin replaced Lydia Miles and swiftly got to work, showing some excellent passing and ball-control. Meagan Hill, Hayley Wrightson and Becci Hodgson held possession well in mid-field and it wasn’t long before the next major chance came for Carterton … Another stunning cross by Megan was to be met by Lucy Henshaw to put Carterton two goals ahead. Tower Hill responded like a wounded animal and their Charley Hamilton managed to get one back just before half-time, making it 1 – 2 at the break.
Half time score: Tower HillVixens Red 1 v Carterton FC 2.
Lydia came back on to replace April for the second half. The opening minutes of the half were almost all contained in mid-field with neither team giving quarter, it was almost a display of respect for both teams’ talents. By the eleventh-minute Marta and Megan managed to find their way through but to no avail as Tower Hill’s goalie gathered it up. The to and fro continued with another great run from Marta, matched by a return to Carterton’s end by Tower Hill, but Carterton built up a great attack from deep within their own half. Keeping possession through six or seven passes ended with Lucy getting a good strike to their far post with the ball bouncing in over the line for her second goal, making it 1 – 3. Carterton took real control again, as they had at the start. Marta had another couple of chances in quick succession, followed by another attack that ended with a horrible foul, it looked like a penalty but a free-kick was awarded right on the edge of the box. Lucy put in a great effort with a perfectly struck ball; Tower Hill’s goalie was at full stretch to make an excellent save. Katy Brooks replaced Marta for the last nine-minutes of the game and almost created the last chance as she turned the ball within Tower Hill’s box, but it ended with the whistle for full-time.
Final Score Tower Hill Vixens Red v Carterton FC 3.
Great game! As ever with good games it is hard to decide who deserves the Girl of the Game award. Tim had the tough decision and finally gave it to Lucy for great play throughout the game plus two goals.

06.12.08 Bloxham 2 v Carterton FC 1

A bright sunlit morning saw Bloxham in blue kick off to start the match. Gayna Eeles and Sarah Derrick were soon engaged, successfully defending the first attack. A determined Megan Glyn retrieved a loose ball skilfully passing to Lydia Miles who created persistent pressure down the right hand side and winning Carterton two corners in quick succession. Bloxham’s strong defence however, kept the game concentrated in the centre with Hayley Wrightson and Meagan Hill putting in some timely tackles. Bloxham’s efforts led to a break on the left wing and a cross goal shot was stunningly blocked by a diving Katie Light. Unfortunately the spinning ball was struck home up by a Bloxham striker to give them the lead 15 mins into the game. Carterton continued to attack and Megan produced an inch perfect pass through the middle to Lydia, taking it in her stride, running forward and hitting a cracking shot on target to get Carterton back in the game at 1:1. The final minutes of the first half saw a number of crossed balls from Lucy Henshaw towards the Blues’ end, but, when cleared brought play again into the middle of the ground. April Millin’s pace and strength and Jade Pitt’s secure and measured marking helped keep Bloxham at bay until the close of the first half.
Half time: Bloxham 1 v Carterton FC 1.
Carterton began the second half battle at Bloxham and Gayna motivated her team mates, calling for movement and communication. Sarah’s sound performance from the first half continued at right back. Hayley set Lucy on another forward attack with Becci Hodgson and April both involved. Bloxham bounced back with another corner 12 mins into the second half, a loose ball bounced in front of goal giving Bloxham the opportunity to take a 2:1 lead. From a Carterton free kick Jade launched a long ball into Bloxham’s half and the mid field action continued with Megan and Meagan creating some good movement. In the final quarter, a tactical move put Becci forward on the left hand side helping to create a number of Carterton corners. Tight marking hampered Carterton’s creativity and Bloxham took the home win.
Final score: Bloxham 2 v Carterton FC 1.
Carterton displayed excellent sportswomanship and calm professionalism during a very physical game. Well done to Sarah Derrick for being named Carterton ‘Girl of the Game’, reward for a very committed and spirited performance.

29.11.08   Carterton FC 1 v Kidlington Youth 4

Well, it was a cold, foggy Monahan morning, but spirits were high with the chance of taking the outright lead in the league tables. The game had a slow start with the ball meandering to both ends without any real force or conviction. Kidlington grasped the initiative after a few minutes and Gayna Eeles showed confidence in defence to stop a fairly good attack and Hayley Wrightson put in a great tackle to prevent another Kidlington chance becoming a goal. Kidlington showed some real talent with some nifty touches, but Carterton put paid to that with Meagan Hill putting in a great run, getting the ball to Megan Glyn for a lovely pass to Lucy Henshaw, but sadly Carterton’s first real chance also came to nothing. On the break Kidlington put on a strong attack and it was only Katie Light’s safe hands that stopped a goal. It was great to see Marta Dyet back after her injury a few weeks ago, but unfortunately a challenge seemed to trigger the same injury and reluctantly she had to be replaced by Katy Brooks with just six-minutes gone. The change in formation seemed to allow an easy chance for Kidlington’s Casey Butler to steal a goal and take the lead. Just three-minutes later another Kidlington attack became a bit of a melee in front of the goal resulting in Hannah Gaydon getting Kidlington’s second goal. Carterton soon came back, with a late challenge giving Jade Pitts a free kick. She took it beautifully for Lucy to run on to and finish with a firm strike, getting one back to make it one, two. Control returned to Kidlington and it took an amazing run back from Becci Hodgson to prevent another Kidlington attack. Katy also showed some good thinking and closed down yet another onslaught. Kidlington weren’t to be contained for long though; a flurry of attacks and a slightly confused defence allowed a ball to slip through Katie’s hands giving them their third goal and Hannah’s second. Katie wouldn’t let that happen again; the next few strikes were deftly handled and credit must go to her for the way she handled her obvious earlier disappointment.
Half-time score Carterton FC 1 v  Kidlington Youth 3.
Kidlington were quickly back on pace and created a chance four-minutes in to the second-half with a stonking strike going just over the crossbar. Then Sarah Derrick had to defend sternly to stop them in their tracks. Approaching the final quarter, at long last we were to return to Carterton’s normal fast pace. Lydia Miles and Lucy putting in some great combinations and fast running to open opportunities, but their only real chances ended by being off-side. Gayna had to make a save right on the line and Katy had a chance at goal as the game went from end-to-end. With just three minutes remaining Kidlington’s Georgina Bolden sealed their victory with another goal.
Final Score Carterton FC 1 v  Kidlington Youth 4.
A somewhat disappointing end to a game that promised so much. For some reason Carterton just couldn’t find the pace and class they’d demonstrated as a team in recent matches. However this shouldn’t take away some fine personal performances and the fact that Kidlington played a very good game. There were moments of brilliance from several players, however the Girl-of-the-Game was rightly awarded to Katie Light for her goal keeping and admirable spirit.

22.11.08 Carterton FC 1 v Marston Saints Angels 0

As I was leaving Monahan Way after this morning’s home game I thought, this will be a difficult report to write. I was tired just watching it! Both teams played with such commitment that it was not only a sporting spectacle, but also a very close match between two highly skilled sides. Throughout the match it was difficult to see who would finally win it. I make no apologies for possibly missing some names and pieces of action in this report as there was so much great play from all the players I would have to take over the web-site to fit it all in. So, here’s the highest of the highlights. Carterton kicked off a few minutes late at 09:35, but Marston took early control. Their first strike at goal was fairly weak making an easy save for Katie Light. Carterton responded strongly with Lucy Henshaw getting a good ball to April Millin. Marston’s defence not only cleared but were instantly back on the attack. Gayna Eeles showed huge confidence in stopping them in their tracks and the whole Carterton defence was put under massive strain, but they managed it well showing deft skill and mature patience. Such was the skill in defence that Jade Pitts’ clearance created a great chance for April to get a pass to Megan Glyn who in turn battled her way up-field. Unfortunately, it came to nothing as Marston regained possession and made a bit of progress, this time stopped by Meagan Hill. Meagan’s clearance was such that it created a real goal-scoring chance, but Lucy Henshaw was deemed off-side. All this in just the first ten-minutes and it was swiftly followed by another great combination from Hayley Wrightson and Lydia Miles. Lydia’s pace was incredible, but not enough to break a strong Marston back-row. Marston returned fire only saved by Sarah Derrick and Katie to prevent them getting a lead. As Carterton came back they fell foul of another off-side offence, killing another chance. Katy Brooks came on to replace April as the first quarter of the game was completed. Just a few minutes later, another lightning run by Lydia ended with a fabulous cross to Lucy, who seemed to get a good strike. It was no more than two-foot to the right of the goal. The first half of this tough, physical game ended with Carterton looking in control, but despite all this great football no scores to report.
Half-time score: Carterton FC 0 v Marston Saints Angels 0.
Marston got the second-half underway, but it was Carterton that took possession and made a bit of progress. Marston did well on the break but couldn’t get through some strong-confident defending by Becci Hodgson who, in my mind, had her best match of the season so far. Six-minutes in to the second, yet again Lydia blasted through and with a lovely stop and turn got an excellent cross to the feet of April right in the box. Sadly, April just couldn’t get enough of her boot on it to get the goal, but it was a great attempt. Just two-minutes later Megan gained control of mid-field, getting the ball to Lydia for a near-perfect cross to Lucy who made no mistake in sticking it in the net. At long last the effort was rewarded. There was no breaking spirit, though – Marston came straight back and narrowly missed the equaliser as their striker hit Carterton’s left post. A few drops of rain fell; incredible; it was cold enough for snow, but nothing would stop the pace of this match. Katy read the ball well creating a run for Meagan, in turn getting the ball to Lucy, but ended with another off-side. An injury was almost inevitable given the pace and pressure throughout and it was a big loss for Carterton as Jade had to come off following another great challenge. With just a few minutes to go, Marston were desperate to get a goal. Their final strike was fantastic in extra time, and by far their best chance of the game; fortunately for Carterton it was just a fraction off-target. That’s how it all finished. What a game!
Final score: Carterton FC 1 v Marston Saints Angels 0.
Tim awarded Girl of the Game to Lydia for her amazing pace and commitment throughout the game and creating that winning goal.

15.11.08 Bardwell 1 v Carterton FC 2

Off we went to Bicester to play Bardwell on a windy, sunny morning. Following the deluge of rain we’ve had the pitch was unsurprisingly soft. Carterton kicked-off, but Bardwell had the benefit of the wind on their backs in the first half and were quick to take advantage. Carterton struggled to get out of their grips and were constantly pushed back towards their own goal. Lydia Miles had the first chance to get the ball up the line, but there was no-one to receive it, wasting an early chance. As the Bardwell attack continued Carterton’s defence were tested several times. Meagan Hill, Jade Pitts and Lucy Henshaw rose to the challenge and prevented Bardwell getting through on several occasions. Katie Light also showed some deft skill and safe hands when Bardwell got their first shot on target. Nine-minutes of Bardwell pressure finally paid-off for them when their striker, Lauren Smith, got a well-deserved goal from outside the box. Given the distance it may have meant to have been a pass, but a goal is a goal. Just one-minute later Katie was tested again by Bardwell, this time she saved it well. Megan Glyn was on-form with some great mid-field work, getting the ball to Lydia and a messy Bardwell defence may have seen the equalizer, but their brave goalie was too good on this occasion. Becci Hodgson and Hayley Wrightson showed real confidence today with accurate passing and strong tackles. A few substations followed with Katy Brooks replacing April Millin and Sarah Derrick coming on for Lucy. Katy, playing on the right, maintained good position, creating options and getting a pass to Meagan, who in turn fed it to Lydia. Just like last weekend it proved that Carterton have the class and confidence to maintain possession even against the league-leaders! With only a few minutes left before the break Jade managed to get a good pass to Megan, who flicked in to an off-side Lydia … Shame it would have been good to even things up before half-time.
Half time: Bardwell 1 v Carterton FC 0 .
Carterton had the advantage of the wind in the second-half and Tim’s half time chat must have worked as their formation looked better disciplined. Again Bardwell applied early pressure and a big attack had to be countered by an equally big defence by Jade. Five-minutes in though saw control come to Carterton and a couple of chances to score. Lydia volleyed one to test Bardwell’s goalie and swiftly after April was well on-target, but couldn’t get enough power on it to score. Carterton didn’t have it all their own way though; Bardwell were quick to return fire. Gayna Eeles prevented many of these attacks from becoming goals with excellent clearing. Approaching the last quarter Carterton replied and gained a corner. It was well kicked in to the box but met with a late tackle from Bardwell and the ref awarded Carterton a penalty. Lucy showed no nerves with a clinically struck ball from the spot, levelling the score to one-all. Bardwell responded like an injured animal; Katie having to make another good save to prevent them retaking the lead. Unfortunately they also became an injured animal physically as one of their players left the field. Without substitutes this left Bardwell with only ten-players for the last eight minutes. Carterton were quick to capitalise on this, but some tight off-side decisions stopped progress. With just two-minutes left on the clock it was a delight to see Marta Dyet back on form; a blistering strike put Carterton one ahead. Only sad that quickly after this Marta suffered an injury putting her out of the last few minutes. Megan had the last chance with a great run, getting past two players, but fairly tackled by the third and the final whistle quickly followed.
Final Score Bardwell 1 v Carterton F C 2.
The close score reflected a close, physical and often-exciting game. Bardwell were no push-over and are the current league leaders so it’s a good victory for Carterton. As ever, Tim had a tough decision for Girl-of-the-Game as there were many great performances and little to choose between the team. However, Jade’s defence and leadership was excellent throughout and fully deserved the award.

08.11.08 Carterton FC  7  v  Benson United  2

Fortunately the rain cleared in time for the kick off at Monahan Way, but there was a keen breeze making the conditions a little less than tropical. Benson played with the wind in the first half but gained little advantage from it. The first few minutes looked fairly tight until Megan Glyn and April Millin put together a strong attack which was finished with April sticking one in for the first score of the game. It took up to the eighth-minute before Benson managed to break Carterton’s possession, but when they did they created a flurry of chances, first one going wide for a goal kick, then two more that good took great goal-keeping from Katie Light to prevent losing the lead. Indeed for the first quarter, Benson had most of the ball but then Marta Dyet broke through with a great run and an even better strike which was only just off-target, going over the cross-bar. Then April also broke through Benson with a good strike, stretching Benson’s goalie to deflect it to Lydia Miles for a simple finish, putting Carterton two goals ahead. Katy Brooks came on to take over right-defence from Sarah Derrick. Carterton didn’t have it all their own way though as it took swift running back by Gayna Eeeles to defend and clear. Following Benson being awarded a series of three corners it also took a good clearance by Megan to prevent the third attempt from becoming a goal-scoring chance. This created a great break for Carterton and again Marta grasped the chance and this time was bang-on target to put the home team three ahead. Before the half was over Benson tried another attack, putting in an excellent cross which was deflected by the head of Gayna, unfortunately in to her own net. Nobody likes own-goals and this one was no exception; it was a brave attempt at defending and a header at full-stretch. It could have so easily gone either way. Before the whistle was blown for half-time Sarah came back on to replace April, the refreshed team created another chance for Lydia to get her second goal, making four-one before the break.
Carterton FC 4 v Benson United 1
Carterton came back with all guns blazing, within seconds of starting the second-half Carterton’s skipper, Meagan Hill, led the way feeding balls upfield creating chances. Lydia had hit the left-hand side netting, Marta the right-hand side, and Lydia got a good cross to Hayley Wrightson for another chance, but without reward due to an excellent save by Benson’s goalie. Becci Hodgson and Jade Pitts put in some good battling and the ball was again deep in Benson’s half, Hayley’s well-executed cross was met with a clinical finish by Lydia to get her hat-trick! Another Megan / Marta combination secured Carterton’s sixth goal. The last quarter showed some real confidence from Carterton, looking a lot more comfortable and controlled whilst in possession. Benson had to be aggressive to break this spell, and unfortunately a crunching tackle put their number-eight out of the game. Their aggression started to work though and it took another good save from Katie to prevent them scoring. However, the fifty-first minute saw them break though to make it six-two, scored by their Kiera Robinson. The dying minutes of the game witnessed a near-miracle; Hayley scoring off her right-foot! Proving beyond all doubt that there’s talent in both her feet.
A strong end to the game, final score 7 – 2.
The match was tougher than the score-line may suggest so Carterton can be doubly-proud of the result, Benson played some good football and created chances, for which they should also be proud. Girl-of-the-Game must have been a tough decision for Tim as there were many fine performances. Ultimately though, Megan’s mid-field work contributed to almost every goal scored and played with huge commitment throughout, and for this she was awarded Girl-of-the-Game.

11.10.08 Ducklington 2 v Carterton FC 9

A sunny morning and still airs made perfect conditions for Carterton’s visit to Ducklington for their second league match, and what a match! After the disappointment of last week’s defeat, the girls bounced back, taking the kick-off and getting straight down to business. The 4-4-2 formation seemed to work better and within the first minute Marta Dyet was able to have the first strike at goal following some great mid-field work by Megan Glyn & April Millin; unfortunately it was a little off-target, but a sign of better things to come. Next to have a go was Hayley Wrightson, which was on target, but a little bit too easy for Ducklington’s goalie to gather up. The ball was sent back and quickly won by April, who also had a strike, from a fine angle, but again in to the hands of the goalie. Next was Lucy Henshaw’s turn; her shot just one-foot outside the right-hand post. All this action in just the first five minutes but nothing to show for it on the score-board. Ducklington came back with an attack, but it was well defended by Gayna Eeles with an excellent clearance. Carterton were quick to regain control; Marta was close to scoring with her shot that met the woodwork, rebounding to Megan who just sent the ball over the cross-bar. Katy Brooks and Meagan Hill put in a good work rate and big effort to keep feeding balls to the forwards; only good defending stopped another shot by April. It took up to thirteenth-minute to break through with a cracking shot from Lucy, straight past an un-sighted goalie to put Carterton one-nil ahead. Katie Light, Carterton’s goalie had yet to touch the ball by this point, which gives an indication of how strongly Carterton were playing. The next goal-scoring chance was created by Marta from the half-way line. After a blistering run she made no mistake to give Carterton their second goal. It’s always good to see that defenders can also score goals, like England’s Rio Ferdinand, and Jade Pitts also achieved this distinction by scoring Carterton’s third goal in the twenty-sixth minute. Her chance was created by a near-perfect corner taken by Marta. Just a minute later Lucy made it four-nil with another cracking goal.
As the first-half was coming to an end Carterton conceded a free kick from a hand-ball, mid-way in their own half. Ducklington took the kick well, placing it in Carterton’s box, apparently hitting Jade’s side. However the referee saw it as another hand-ball offence and awarded the penalty. Ella Butler took the penalty for Ducklington and whilst Katie made a great attempt at saving it, just getting her fingers to it to give her first touch of the ball in the game, it carried on in to the net, giving Ducklington’s first score.
Half-time score: Ducklington 1 v Carterton FC 4
Ducklington got the second half underway, but Carterton’s Megan was first to seize control with another shot at goal, sending the ball only just to the left of target. April swiftly followed suit with one just to the right, but Lucy made no mistake and scored her hat-trick making it five-one with twenty-five minutes to go. Another flurry of activity followed with Becci Hodgson doing well at the back to keep supplying balls through Katy, now on right-wing. First Megan and then Katy had shots at goal and Megan scored to make it six-one as the last-quarter approached. Ducklington’s Ella managed to get through, scoring their second goal, as the ball went in off the post. Getting things back in order, Katy gave a lovely pass to give Marta another great run and her second goal of the game. This was swiftly followed by Megan passing a great ball to Lucy to score her fourth of the game. Twelve-minutes to go, eight goals to two. The last minutes of the game were by far the most settled, one can only imagine everyone was tired after the frenetic earlier play - although Marta broke through to get her hat-trick and add to the convincing victory.
Final score: Ducklington 2 v Carterton FC 9
A tricky decision faced coach Tim Miles as he decided on who to award the prestigious “Girl of the Game”. After great deliberation and praising all the team for their input, he finally awarded it to Katy Brooks for her work-rate and effort throughout the match, her commitment and determination on the ball and a personal best performance.

04.10.08 Carterton FC 1 v Tower Hill Vixens Red 6

Finally the season got underway at 10:30 on a cold and windy Saturday morning at Monahan Way. Tower Hill won the toss and unsurprisingly chose to play with the wind behind them for the first half. Tower Hill were also first to apply pressure and were instantly on the attack with a fair shot from the right-wing, but it was safely pushed away by Katie Light. After only two minutes their pressure was rewarded with the first goal. Carterton responded well with some good play in return, some quick running from Lydia Miles got the ball to the front, but a little inexperience of the full-size game put Carterton off-side denying a chance of equalizing. Eight-minutes was enough to see Tower Hill stretch their lead; a well-taken corner was met with an unstoppable strike pounding in to the back of Carterton’s net to put them two-goals ahead. Only two-minutes later and they were on the charge again with another well-struck ball hitting the Crossbar. Megan Glyn, Lucy Henshaw and Lydia put together some great passes creating a great chance, but no-one was able to finish the job. Control of the game returned to Tower Hill with another firm strike getting just inside the far post, beyond Katie’s reach, putting them three goals ahead with barely the first-quarter played. Carterton had to find answers; Lydia, on another fast run manage to get a shot on target but Tower Hill’s goalie gathered it up. On the break Tower Hill quickly returned fire with an awesome cross from their right-winger leaving a simple finish for their striker to put them four goals ahead with just seven-minutes left in the first half. These last few minutes saw some excellent mid-field battling from Katy Brooks, Hayley Wrightson and some great runs from Marta Dyet. Meagan Hill managed to get Carterton’s best shot of the half, but again it was not quite good enough to get past Tower Hill’s goalie.
Half-time Score: Carterton FC 0 v Tower Hill Vixens Red 4.
Carterton started the second half very positively which was a credit to them given the first-half scoreline. Having the advantage of the wind behind them also helped their efforts. Lydia had the first chance but just out-run herself leaving the ball to go out for a goal kick. Three-minutes gone and Meagan put in another great shot; Tower Hill’s goalie was at full stretch to tip it over the cross-bar denying Carterton another goal-scoring opportunity. After this things settled for the first time where the teams looked evenly matched; Jade Pitts and Gayna Eeles, kept things under control in defence. Carterton then turned this in to an attack, feeding the ball to Lydia to score the first goal of the half with seventeen-minutes left on the clock. Tower Hill were quick to respond though, with another pounding goal; they would have got another immediately after if it had not been for the quick-thinking defensive work by Becci Hodgson. Carterton contained Tower Hill for a further five-minutes, but they were relentless in taking every chance rewarding them with another goal. Hayley gave Carterton a great chance in the last few minutes with a great run, frustrating the Tower Hill defence, but it was another unrewarded effort for Carterton leaving the score unchanged.
Full-time Score: Carterton FC 1 v Tower Hill Vixens Red 6.
It was a disappointing start to the season, however many positives can be taken from it. Technically there was little difference between the teams, Tower Hill were just better at exploiting their chances and were never afraid to give it a go. In addition Carterton only just had enough players so were without any rest that a substitute can offer, showing great commitment and team-spirit. Becci epitomised this by turning up and playing her heart out despite being under the weather and was awarded Girl-of-the-Game.

04.04.09 Chinnor Youth 6 v Carterton FC 1.

Carterton took on Chinnor expecting a tough game and after failing to score in their last few games a couple of positiontal changes were made. From the first whistle Chinnor put Carterton under a lot of pressure and after 10 minutes they took the lead when their right winger was given too much room and scored with a fine shot from the edge of the box. Chinnor continued to apply more pressure on the Carterton defence but against the run of play Carterton broke and a through ball from Natasha put Sophie through but her shot was well saved, as the ball bounced back from the keeper Megan was on hand to loop the ball into the empty net to make it 1-1. The rest of the half was all Chinnor who added 3 further goals to give them a 4-1 half time lead.At half time Carterton made a few changes with Natasha moving back to sweeper and Jenny coming on upfront.

Half Time:- Chinnor Youth 4 v Carterton FC 1.
The second half was a much closer affair with the Carterton defence keeping a far closer check on the Chinnor forwards and Stacey taking control of the six yard box there chances were few and far between compared to the first half and they were only added 2 further goals to give them a 6-1 victory.

Girl of the Game went to Stacey for her 2nd half display.

21.03.09 Carterton FC 0 v Oxford Irish 2.

On a sunny but windy morning we hosted a tough game against a physical Oxford Irish side. For only the second time this season we were given the pitch closest to the Pavilion so we were partially sheltered from the wind ! The team this week was Stacey Oakey in goal, the same back four as last week of Georgia Jackson, Natasha Jones, Georgina Hewson and Rebecca Wood. Justine Morris played as a defensive midfield player with a line of four in front of her of Megan Allsworth, Lucy Moore, Charlotte McClarron and Kayleigh Murphy, leaving Sophie Thomas as the lone striker. On the bench we had Dawn Slatford, Jenny Whitlock and Gemma Gordon-Smith.

Oxford Irish got the game underway and attacked from the start. Tash and Georgina working well together and putting some strong tackles in. The first 15 minutes was end to end with both teams not finding  the finishing touch. A half chance came to the away side with a high bouncing ball into the box nearly going over the keepers hands, thankfully Stacey managed to gather the ball with her fingertips and thwart that chance. Midway through the half Kayleigh was replaced by Gemma on the right and straight away gemma was putting in strong challenges and winning the ball for Carterton. Sophie alone upfront was asked to hold the ball up more and wait for the midfield to join her and she did this very well. As the half time whistle blew, both teams were unable to find a way through their opponents strong defences.
Half Time:- Carterton FC 0 v Oxford Irish 0.
The second half started with Carterton being pushed back and Irish managed to get behind the defence and from the goal line, the ball was knocked under Stacey's body for Sorcha Murphy to bundle the ball over the line and put them one up with only two minutes played. Carterton went on the attack from the centre with Rebecca hitting the ball from the half way line, with wind assistance, unfortunately the keeper was alert and she managed to hold the ball. Pressure was kept on Oxford team with some good work down the left with Georgia and Megan eventually passing the ball down the line to Sophie who cut in and from a tight angle, sadly only managed to hit the side netting. Charlotte and Justine also working well together this time down the right giving the home side another chance but the keeper thwarted this attack. From her kick the ball bounced deep into the Carterton half and a cross from the left went straight across the area without anyone getting a touch on it. The Oxford forward reacted quickest to keep the ball in and unchallenged had time to get her head up and pick her pass, the cross this time was met on the volley by Bonita Bryan, even though she sliced her shot it beat the defender and keeper into the goal just inside the left upright for a two goal lead. A couple of substitutions were made with Lucy and Charlotte coming off to be replaced by Kayleigh and Dawn. Kayleigh went upfront along side Sophie, Gemma came across to the centre of midfield and Dawn went out on the right wing to close down the threat that Irish were causing down their left. Carterton continued to put pressure on the away side and with Megan tiring on the left wing, Jenny was introduced to inject some pace, which she has in abundance !! Immediately we have Oxford camped in their half and we pushed Georgina up from the back to support the forwards to try and get back into the game. With five minutes to play Sophie came off and Charlotte came back on but still Oxford Irish were holding on. Georgina was unlucky to get injured when she beat a player and as she turned her foot went from under her and she twisted her knee, Lucy came back on as Georgina was carried off the pitch. The home side battled to the final whistle but again were unable to score.
Full Time:- Carterton FC 0 v Oxford Irish 2.
Girl of the Game was awarded to Sophie Thomas as she took on board what her role was for the game and executed it well.

14.03.09 Carterton FC 0 v Swindon Supermarines 3.

A sunny but very windy morning meant we were in for a game of two halves playing on pitch 3 !! Stacey Oakey in goal with the same starting back four as last week of Georgia Jackson, Natasha Jones, Georgina Hewson and Rebecca Wood. Across the midfield from the right were Kayleigh Murphy, Lucy Moore, Gemma Gordon Smith and it would of been Megan Allsworth on the left but she had left her boots at school and a couple of mums went home to find spare boots for her to wear. This gave Charlotte McClarron the opportunity to start on the left wing. Sophie Thomas and Jenny Whitlock played up front with Dawn Slatford, Justine Morris and of course Megan on the bench.

Swindon won the toss and played with the wind at their backs and from the start pressured the home sides goal. On eight minutes from a Carterton goal kick, the ball held up in the wind on the right side and Swindon's midfield reacted quicker to fire the ball back into the box. Alice Smith was on hand to control the ball and with her back to goal somehow managed to release a shot that beat three defenders and the keeper to score. Against the wind the home side were keeping the ball down and passing well with some great work from Charlotte and Kayleigh feeding the forwards with some timely passes. A sustained amount of pressure was kept on the Swindon team with a string of corners from Sophie only for her crosses being blocked. On the half hour the away side doubled their lead when Lucy March on the edge of the box, central to goal had all the time in the world as nobody challenged her, she hit the ball well and her dipping shot cleared the outstretched keepers hands. By now Megan had got a pair of boots and she was ready to play, Jenny made way for Megan and Justine came on to replace Gemma. Just before half time Carterton's Charlotte almost got a goal back, only for Swindon's defender to put in a great block.
Half Time:- Carterton FC 0 v Swindon Supermarines 2.
With the wind at the home sides back we hoped to be able to put early pressure on their goal. What a blow when two minutes into the half a speculative shot come cross from Stacey Long,  looked to of been hit too hard but it nestled into the top corner of the goal. Carterton got straight back into the game even though slightly wounded by the goal, Natasha and Georgina were controlled and calm, they came out of defence with the ball a number of times to bolster up the attack. A third change for the home side with Dawn coming on and replacing Rebecca at right back. A large spell of Carterton possession in the away sides half was unrewarded, Justine made the keeper work from 35 yards with a well struck shot, the keeper fumbled the save and Kayleigh ran onto the loose ball only for her tight angle shot to go wide. A minute later Justine from the half way line knocked the ball up field for Sophie to control the ball and on the volley her shot just went over the crossbar. Before the final whistle Carterton pushed for a goal but to no avail.

A good performance from the team, only lacking in making the chances count. Girl of the Game went to Georgia Jackson for her strong defensive work and positive play.

07.03.09 Bloxham 3 v Carterton FC 1.

Third time lucky to get this game played as two previous attempts were called off with Bloxham having a water logged pitch. Stacey Oakey was in goal with a back four from the left of Georgia Jackson, Natasha Jones, Georgina Hewson and Rebecca Wood. Gemma Gordon-Smith and Dawn Slatford played in the centre of midfield with Megan Allsworth out on the left and Kayleigh Murphy on the right. Charlotte McClarron and Sophie Thomas played up front with only one substitute at hand and this was Jenny Whitlock.

Bloxham started the game brightly and got an early goal when the ball was crossed toBecky Critchley in the box who was unchallenged by 2 Carterton defenders and she was given a free shot which beat Stacey Oakey in goal. Carterton bounced straight back and from a corner, Sophie Thomas crossed the ball into the area but a poor defensive header by Bloxhams Lauren Grantham, saw the ball bounce in the 6 yard box and Kayleigh Murphy was on hand to stab home the ball and bring the scores all level. Midway through the half Kayleigh came off with a knock to her ankle and Jenny took her place on the right. The half played out with both teams not troubling their respective keepers.

Carterton had a lot of the possession in the second half but in front of goal never seemed to have the finishing touch. Kayleigh was brought back on to replace Jenny and minutes later Bloxham made the away side pay for missed chances when another crossed ball came to Izzi Craft and like their first goal, no challenge was put in and she duely scored. As Carterton pushed for another equaliser Jenny was reintroduced for her pace and Dawn was taken off. The away side were dealt a blow when Georgia Jackson was judged to of clipped the foot of Bloxhams Rosie Eden and a penalty was given. Becky stepped up and drilled the ball into the back of the net just before Full Time and that was how the game finished.

Girl of the Game this week went to Gemma Gordon-Smith for her determination to close players down and work hard for the team.

28.02.09 Carterton FC 1 v St Edmunds 3.

Carterton took on St Eds. with several players missing and during the first 10 minutes they struggled with their shape. Twelve minutes into the game a misunderstanding in the Carterton defence allowed St Eds. to score a sloppy goal and take a 1-0 lead. Carterton started to find their feet and created several openings, 3 falling to Charlotte and 1 falling to Megan but poor finishing meant Carterton were unable to equlise. Eventually they did in the 33rd minute when a cross from Georgia was met by Charlotte whose shot was blocked on the line but Kayleigh was on hand to tap the ball into the net. Four minutes later St Eds. broke from their own half and once again poor defending allowed them to sneak a goal and take a 2-1 half time lead.
The second half was very much like the first with Carterton working very hard all over the pitch and creating several chances but unable to find the target and after 55 minutes St Eds. broke to score a third to give them a 3-1 lead and this was how the game remained.
Once again Carterton lack of taking goal scoring chances has cost them points but the girls should be given praise for the 100% effort they put into the match.
Girl of the Game went to Justine Morris for her hard work on the pitch.

31.01.09 Carterton FC 0 v Hagbourne 3.

A cold winters morning saw Carterton host a game against struggling Hagbourne. Even though they are near the bottom of the league they made our away game against them earlier in the season very hard, where we managed a tight 1-0 win against only ten players. The starting 11 were Stacey Oakey in goal, Rebecca Wood at left back and Dawn Slatford at right back. A new pairing as centre backs for Natasha Jones and Georgina Hewson. Lucy Moore and Justine Morris controlled the centre of midfield with Laura MacDonogh on the right and Kayleigh Murphy on the left. Up front were Sophie Thomas and Charlotte McClarron with Georgia Jackson and Jenny Whitlock on the bench.
Hagbourne won the toss and played against the wind for the first half and Carterton took centre. Early into the game the home side were struggling to control the ball with loose passes and poor touches. It wasn’t until the fifteenth minute that a clear chance came and it was the visitors who pulled their shot wide of the post. Midway through the half Kayleigh was replaced on the field by Georgia to try and liven things up, as the game was very scrappy. Charlotte had to come off with a bloody nose after the ball hit her square in the face with Jenny coming on to replace her. Just before half time Sophie had a chance to put Carterton in front but a poor finish meant no score by either team as the whistle blew.
Half Time:- Carterton FC 0 v Hagbourne 0.
A substitution was made for the start of the second half with Charlotte coming back on, LJ making way and Jenny moving out to the right wing. The stalemate was broken on 51 minutes when a free kick was given outside the area, from the resulting free kick a flick on was half saved by Stacey only for Hagbourne’s Olivia Lord to react quicker than Rebecca and finish at the back post. A couple of minutes later Sophie got a knock to her knee, so came off and Kayleigh replaced her up front. With only 15 minutes left to play the home side took off a defender to play only three at the back and pushed for a goal. Unfortunately for Dawn, she was the one sacrificed and LJ came back on at wide right and Jenny was asked to play alongside Kayleigh and Charlotte up front. Carterton had a lot of the ball in the opponents half but made no clear chances and the Hagbourne keeper had very little to do. Another substitution with only 5 minutes to play, Sophie coming back on and taking Jenny off to see if we could get an equalizer. On the break Hagbourne got their second goal with a well taken shot from Barbara Soria. In the dieing seconds with Carterton pushing players forward to get back in the game conceded a third goal when a great shot from Sarah Cullis beat the keeper and went in off the inside of the upright.

Not a good game as a spectator and a lack lustre effort from most of the team. Hopefully a better effort will be put into their next game.
Girl of the Game this week went to Rebecca Wood, who, as always, puts in a good work effort, with Lucy, Stacey and Natasha working hard for the team also getting a mention in the debrief.

17.01.09 Carterton FC 1 v Oxford City 3

The first game of 2009 saw Carterton take on Oxford City for the first time this season as their first fixture was cancelled. A blustery morning but thankfully the expected rain had held off. Stacey Oakey in goal with Rebecca Wood staying at left back, Jodi Bradley and Natasha Jones working well together as centre backs with Dawn Slatford as right back. The midfield quartet from left to right was Laura MacDonogh (LJ), Lucy Moore, Gemma Gordon-Smith and Georgina Hewson with Sophie Thomas and Charlotte McClarron playing upfront. On the bench were Megan Allsworth, Justine Morris and Kayleigh Murphy.
Oxford City chose ends and played against the wind in the first half and Carterton took centre. An over hit centre gave possession straight to the away side. The Christmas break seemed to have crept into the game as Carterton took time to settle down and play. On eight minutes Oxford took the lead when Dawn got on the wrong side of Oxford's Chrisline Kimball who controlled the ball well and unleashed a great strike which fizzed past the out-coming Stacey in goal. Soon after LJ came off with a knock to her leg, being replaced by Kayleigh. Halfway through the half the home side started to get their game together with some great link play from Lucy, Kayleigh, Charlotte and Sophie. With 24 minutes gone Gemma was replaced by Justine as Gemma couldn’t get into the game. A minute late Stacey pulled off a good save when she charged a shot down, unfortunately the next break by Oxford gave them their second goal when their forward Tasha Kenny stepped into the box with the ball, Stacey went out to save the ball at her feet but it spilled out and Tasha reached it and struck it into the back of the net. This seemed to spark Carterton into life and Charlotte took the ball deep into the away sides half but unfortunately she cut the ball back and nobody was there. Another substitute saw Georgina come off and Megan replace her on the right. Three minutes from half time Carterton got a deserved goal when a strong run from Lucy, releasing the ball to Charlotte who moved it quickly to Megan, in turn passed it onto Sophie who with a twisted strike beat the keeper. In the dying seconds Stacey put in a great block to almost certainly prevent Oxford from extending their lead.
Half Time: - Carterton FC 1 v Oxford City 2.
The second half got under way and it was Megan who got an early strike at goal, her shot hit the keeper and back to Megan who’s second shot was blocked. A couple of minutes later Charlotte broke down the left passing the Oxford right back with ease but was fouled when the right back grabbed her shirt to give away a free kick. Tash took a great kick across the box but nobody could get on the end of it. It wasn’t all one way, Oxford pressured Carterton’s defence who had to put in some timely tackles as Oxford’s forwards were very quick. Jodi had to put in a last ditch challenge to prevent a strike on goal, which she did with class and from the tackle she retrieved the ball and put us on the offensive, the ball was moved quickly up to Charlotte who went on a strong run and her shot beat the keeper and just went wide of the upright. Oxford went straight down the other end, Rebecca put in a great tackle to put it out for a corner. A mistake from Stacey from the ensuing corner, when she lost sight of the flight of the ball, the ball went through her hands and Oxford’s Rebecca Dixon was on the spot to toe poke the ball into the goal. Sophie almost immediately had a chance to pull a goal back but her shot just went wide. LJ was reintroduced and Megan made way on the right. Stacey again made a save with an out stretched foot when a shot from Tasha was going into the bottom left corner. A couple of final substitutes saw Dawn and Justine coming off and Georgina and Gemma replacing them. Lucy had a great chance also, but unfortunately Sophie couldn’t get out of her way and Oxford managed to scramble the ball away.

As the game went on the team started to play very well and had many chances to make the score line look a lot different. A good team effort and Girl Of The Game went to Charlotte McClarron for her tireless work effort upfront.

20.12.08 North Leigh 1 v Carterton FC 2

The last game of 2008 was a short journey to local rivals North Leigh. After playing them at the start of the season, their results have improved recently with some new players coming in. We knew we were in for a tough match and the pitch was not in great condition. Stacey Oakey continues in goal with the solid partnership of Natasha Jones and Jodi Bradley at centre backs. Rebecca Wood moved across to left back and Dawn Slatford slotted in at right back. The midfield four from left to right were Kayleigh Murphy, Lucy Moore, Justine Morris, and Laura MacDonogh (LJ) with Sophie Thomas and Charlotte McClarron upfront. On the bench were Gemma Gordon-Smith, Jenny Whitlock, and Laura Meridew.
The home side kicked off but Carterton took early control of the ball with Sophie and Charlotte having chances to go ahead. A couple of breaks from North Leigh were thwarted by Natasha and Jodi with Lucy and Justine distributing the ball extremely well. On 15 minutes Carterton opened their account with a strong run by Lucy to the back line, when she cut the ball back to Sophie who passed across the six yard box for Kayleigh to come in at the back post and score. North Leigh came straight back on the attack and was awarded a free kick 25 yards out just left of the centre when Natasha was penalised for a high boot. Thankfully the free kick was straight into Stacey’s arms. The lead was doubled on 25 minutes when Jodi held up and stole the ball from a North Leigh attack, passed the ball to Lucy who moved the ball on quickly to LJ who shot over the out coming keeper and into the net for her first goal of the season. Almost immediately after the restart Kayleigh, who was struggling with a cold was substituted for Jenny who went out onto the right wing and LJ moved across to the left. The home side were attacking down both flanks but Rebecca and Dawn kept the crosses to a minimum with some timely challenges. In the last 5 minutes of the first half Gemma and Laura were introduced into the game to freshen things up. Gemma taking LJ’s place on the left and Laura upfront for Charlotte. Up to the whistle of half time both teams battled for possession but no clear chances were made.
Half Time: - North Leigh 0 v Carterton FC 2.
North Leigh came out in the second half “all guns blazing” and inside 2 minutes pulled a goal back when a goal kick was closed down, the ball falling at the feet of Sarah Elkins who hit her shot well over Stacey and into the back of the net. A few minutes later Sophie had a great chance to extend the lead but her shot was straight at the keeper. Lucy had another chance when she got herself in a great position for a pass from Gemma but again the shot was straight at the keeper. A substitution was made to bring back on Charlotte upfront, Sophie dropping back into midfield and Justine coming off. Lucy was given the role of defensive midfielder to shore up the defence and conserve some energy with not being 100%. North Leigh kept the pressure up making sure the away sides defence was at its best. With ten minutes to go a couple of substitutions were made with LJ coming back on to the right of midfield, pushing Jenny upfront and Laura coming off. The other player to come off was Sophie who felt faint and Justine going back on. Cartertons next attack saw Gemma unleash a cracking shot only for the home side’s keeper to pull off a great save. In the final minutes North Leigh pushed for an equaliser but with no success and a final substitution was made with Laura coming on for Jenny.

A tough game this was, the players battled well for an early Christmas present of a win. Dawn Slatford got the Girl of the Game award for her composed work at the back.

29.11.08  Oxford Irish 2 v Carterton FC 0

A foggy frosty morning and an away game against top of the league Oxford Irish was install for Carterton. A few players were missing today so a few changes in the line up. Stacey Oakey took the gloves with Georgia Jackson returning from injury at left back. We started with Justine Morris playing along side Natasha Jones at centre backs and Rebecca Wood at right back. Across the midfield from left to right were Kayleigh Murphy, Lucy Moore, Jodi Bradley and Gemma Gordon-Smith. Upfront this week were Sophie Thomas and Charlotte McClarron with Dawn Slatford and Laura Meridew on the bench.

Carterton started the game but Oxford put early pressure on the goal with a shot that just went over the bar on two minutes. The away side couldn’t settle and get the ball down and play with confidence and were unfortunate to give away a free kick just outside the box when Natasha put in a timely tackle but was alleged to of fouled the player! Thankfully the free kick was struck high over the bar, and justice had taken place. It took Carterton a good fifteen minutes to get into the game, this helped when Jodi being returned to her centre back position and Justine moving up into midfield. On twenty-five minutes some good midfield work from Lucy and Justine winning the ball and getting the ball out to Gemma on the right who passed the ball to the feet of Charlotte in the centre, Charlotte controlled, looked up and played the ball through and behind the defence for Sophie to run onto, unfortunately the ball was too straight and heavy and was easily gathered by the keeper. From the keepers kick, the ball bounced through the penalty area where a claim for a penalty was dismissed by the referee and Carterton cleared the ball. On the half hour Sophie was brought off and replaced upfront with Laura. On the break down the left an unfair block on Kayleigh gave Carterton a free kick out wide some 30 yards out. Natasha took a great cross into the box but nobody attacked the ball and it bounced through to the keeper. In the last minute of the half Kayleigh had the ball in the back of the net with a great left foot strike but the whistle had gone for controlling the ball with her hand. Oxford Irish got the last strike on goal before the half time whistle, but the strike was straight at Stacey.

Half Time: - Oxford Irish 0 v Carterton FC 0.

A great first half battle and nothing between the two teams as Oxford Irish got the second half underway. On seven minutes a great through ball from the upbeat Kayleigh put Laura one on one with the home side keeper who made a great block. Oxford broke away from this save and attacked straight down the left and another save from Stacey kept the home side at bay. A change at the back and Dawn came on at right back. A minute later a small mistake at the back proved costly as Oxford Irish’s Sorcha Murphy ran through the centre backs, Jodi tried to get back and put in a challenge but her block wasn’t quite good enough and the shot went under a diving Stacey in goal. Oxford put the pressure on and had a large spell inside the away side’s half but some strong work from Justine and Lucy in the centre kept them at bay. Unfortunately Justine was starting to tire so she made way for Sophie who went back upfront and Charlotte dropped back into right midfield and Gemma across to centre midfield. On sixty-five minutes Oxford Irish doubled their lead with a speculative shot from outside the box by Anna Carson-Parker, Stacey getting a fingertip to it but not enough to get it round the post. From the restart Carterton tried to make a mark on the game with Kayleigh hitting a long ball and running some sixty yards to assist the attack, with her coming back from an injury we are now seeing the Kayleigh from last season. Carterton reintroduced Justine as we were loosing the ball in midfield, so Gemma came off. Another move on the pitch was to push Natasha upfront with her pace and Sophie drop back into the centre back role. This didn’t last very long as Sophie got a knock on the knee, so Natasha came back into defence and Georgia came on and went upfront. A couple of strong attacks by Oxford saw them thankfully shooting straight at the keeper, one being saved between her legs. In the last five minutes Carterton held strong at the back but an untimely tackle put Natasha flat on her back when she cleared the ball and the Oxford player ran straight into her. Natasha after a couple of minutes got back up and played the final couple minutes of the game.

A hard tough fought game but the girls did very well against a strong side with Girl of the Game award going to Justine Morris for her strong battling on the pitch.

22.11.08 Carterton FC 2 v Bloxham 2

With an awful weather forecast for the weekend it was good to see the snow had held off for this rearranged fixture at home to Bloxham. Megan Allsworth went in goal for the third time with a back line in front of her from left to right of Rebecca Wood, Jodi Bradley, Natasha Jones and Dawn Slatford. A different formation in front of the defence with a three player midfield of Kayleigh Murphy on the left, Lucy in the middle and Laura MacDonogh on the right. Stacey Oakey and Charlotte McClarron played as a pair in front and Georgina Hewson playing on her own upfront. On the bench were Gemma Gordon-Smith, Jenny Whitlock and Sophie Thomas.
Carterton took centre and played against the wind in the first half but put Bloxham immediately under pressure with a ball deep into their half. For the first fifteen minutes the ball was battled for in the centre of the pitch. A great ball from Georgina to Stacey who returned the pass for Georgina to take a shot, unfortunately not enough pace on the ball and safely held by the keeper. A minute later Carterton were forced into a substitution when Jodi has to come off with a breathing problem and was replaced by Sophie. Another chance for the home side came when Lucy’s through ball to Georgina, who got her head up and put the ball through for Stacey, but her shot was straight at the keeper. A minute later Carterton got a free kick outside the area but close to the goal line. Stacey lined up the low cross come shot which Georgina met at the front post but her shot just went wide of the upright. Bloxham had a couple of good chances from outside the box but Megan dealt with them. The away sides Livy Mortimer was having a lot of joy down the right with her strong throws, assisted with the wind and their terrier like player, Rosie Eden, causing problems with her skills and pace. On the half hour Carterton broke the deadlock when a clearance from Sophie at the back was flicked on by Stacey who rounded her marker and played a great ball into the centre of the area behind the defence. Georgina was alert to this and got behind the centre back controlled the ball and beat the keeper. A change took place before the centre kick was taken with Charlotte coming off and Gemma coming on, reverting back to a 4-4-2 formation. Bloxham pushed on and pressured the home sides defence, Dawn and Rebecca stood strong and distributed the ball well and didn’t panic. Sophie filling in at centre back was marshalled well by Natasha and they both closed the away side down quickly. As the half came to a close the ball was getting stifled out in the centre of the park with some strong work from Lucy battling for every ball even if she wasn’t favourite to get to it.
Half Time: - Carterton FC 1 v Bloxham 0.
The second half started with Jodi coming back on to replace LJ, Jodi dropping back into central defence and Sophie moving out to LJ’s position in right midfield. Bloxham got straight into the offensive and inside two minutes they got the equaliser when Rosie Eden took control of the ball out on the right and from outside the area, hit the ball well which went through Megan’s outstretched hands and into the back of the net. This gave the away side some belief and started to have more of the ball. Gemma and Lucy were seeing a lot of the possession in midfield, winning the ball and distributing well. A change for Carterton taking Kayleigh off and replacing her with Charlotte on the left, as Kayleigh looked tired. Lucy broke up play in the midfield and passed the ball to Stacey who held the ball until she was supported by Sophie, who after receiving the ball, put the ball through into the penalty area for Georgina to run onto. The defender tried to get a foot onto the ball but managed to trip Georgina and give away a penalty. Stacey took the spot kick and put Carterton back in the lead 2-1. Another substitution was made with Dawn coming off and Jenny coming on. Jenny went upfront to replace Georgina who moved out onto the right wing and Sophie dropped to right back. Bloxham was still a threat down the right with their pace and on one break it was a last ditch challenge in the box from Gemma that prevented a cross or strike at goal. It wasn’t long before Rosie got her second goal when she made a great run with the ball down the right beating four challenges before unleashing a shot which Megan was unable to save. Carterton went on the attack immediately and was given another free kick some 25 yards out when Lucy was unfairly challenged. Stacey took the free kick and a defender got her head on it and it sailed agonisingly over the crossbar for a corner. A couple of injuries in as many minutes meant more changes for the home side with Georgina coming off for Kayleigh and Charlotte off for Dawn. Both teams had chances in the dying minutes of the game, but neither team found the back of the net.

A better team performance this week with two players showing that little bit extra for the Girl Of The Game trophy. The award went to Lucy Moore for her strong, determined work effort in midfield. But a mention should go to the second player, Natasha Jones for her control of the back line, which was altered, at times forced upon us but she dealt with it well.

15.11.08 St. Edmunds 3 v Carterton FC 1

A sunny but windy Saturday morning saw Carterton travel to Appleford to play St. Edmunds. Megan Allsworth played her second consecutive game in goal. Rebecca Wood gets the nod at right back with Jodi Bradley and Natasha Jones in the centre with Georgia Jackson at left back. Kayleigh Murphy back from injury, at left midfield, Lucy Moore and Justine Morris across the middle and Laura MacDonogh (LJ) on the right. A new strike partnership this week with Georgina Hewson partnering Stacey Oakey up front. On the bench today are Dawn Slatford, Gemma Gordon-Smith and Charlotte McClarron.
The game started with the home side being closed down very quickly and a through ball to Stacey saw her shot saved by the keeper and out for a corner. Two consecutive corners ensued but Carterton were unable to capitalise. The away sides midfield were getting a lot of the ball and a great pass from Lucy put Kayleigh in, only for her shot to be straight at the keeper. Carterton got a free kick some 30 yards out which was well taken by Natasha. Georgina got on the end of the cross and her shot was blocked; luckily the ball fell back at the feet of Georgina and her second shot beat the keeper and into the back of the net. Carterton got their noses in front and looked in control with their back four dealing with any attack and the midfield and forwards closed St. Edmunds down quickly and regaining possession. The first substitution was Justine coming off and being replaced by Gemma followed shortly by LJ being replaced by Charlotte. In the last ten minutes of the half Carterton had numerous chances, when Georgina had a shot straight at the keeper, Stacey from wide right crossed the ball into the box rather than cut in, Lucy had two shots which went wide and Gemma a header which the keeper saved. The halftime whistle blew and the away side should have been further ahead but for some poor finishing.
Half Time: - St. Edmunds 0 v Carterton FC 1.
St. Edmunds came out fired up in the second half and dominated the first ten minutes but Jodi and Natasha held firm in the centre to only allow shots from outside the box which were easily saved by Megan or went wide. On twelve minutes a fumble on the floor by Megan saw St. Edmunds pinch the ball and Bethan Elford scored to level the match. More substitutions took place with Stacey coming off and being replaced with LJ, Rebecca off for Dawn. Carterton went straight on the attack and a great ball from LJ put Georgina through but her shot was straight at the keeper. Stacey then went back on the field in goal to replace Megan. LJ had another great chance to put Carterton back in front but for her shot curling wide. Megan came on as an outfield player taking Kayleigh’s position on the left of midfield. St. Edmunds had another couple of shots over the bar and one that Jodi blocked, unfortunately the ball hit her in the face and cut her lip, she came off being replaced by Rebecca while she was treated. On 65 minutes St. Edmunds took the lead when a cross from the left was hit on the half volley by Lauren Crawford to nestle in the bottom right of the goal. Jodi was soon back on as Natasha got an injury to her toe and came off. Carterton pushed forward searching for an equaliser and a quick free kick taken by Lucy put Georgina one on one with the keeper, but she shot wide. In a last ditch attempt Natasha was put on upfront, playing only three at the back and Kayleigh was back on left midfield, with Megan and Charlotte making way, Justine went back on for Rebecca and in added time St. Edmunds got their third when a long ball wasn’t defended well and Lauren got her second of the game. A last substitution saw Megan back on for Georgia but all the pressure couldn’t get anything back.
Full Time: - St. Edmunds 3 v Carterton FC 1
Girl of the Game went to Gemma Gordon-Smith for her relentless work effort she puts in when she is on the pitch. A comment after the match was that, with all the chances we had in front of goal we need to make this count to have any chance of winning games.

08.11.08 Carterton FC 0 v Chinnor Youth 2

On a wet and windy morning Carterton took on Chinnor in a rearranged league fixture. Carterton's line up was as follows in goal Megan Allsworth, replacing Stephanie Lynas who hadn't turned up. The back four was Dawn Slatford, Jodi Bradley, Natasha Jones and Georgia Jackson. A midfield four of Laura MacDonogh, Justine Morris, Lucy Moore and Charlotte McClarron and the two strikers Stacey Oakey and Sophie Thomas. On the bench we had Rebecca Wood and Georgina Hewson back after two months at the centre of excellence.
With the wind blowing down the pitch it was going to make the game very much one of two halfs. Chinnor kicked off with the wind behind their backs and within two minutes had forced a corner. From the resulting corner Ella Rackstraw bundled the ball over the line as Carterton's defence stood and watched. For the next ten minutes Carterton were totally out of sorts unable to string any passes together at all, and were lucky not to go further behind. 20 minutes into the game Georgia took a heavy blow and was replaced by Rebecca at left back. Carterton had now started to gain some shape and Jodi and Tash were coping with everything Chionnor could throw at them. After 25 minutes Tash conceeded a free kick just outside the box in a dangerous position. Hariot Davis struck it powerfully but staright at keeper Megan who dealt with it comfortably. Half an hour into the game Carterton made their second subsitution taking off striker Stacey and bringing Georgina into the midfield to help keep Chinnor at bay. For the last ten minutes of the half it was back to the wall affair for Carterton as Chinnor forced five further corners but the Carterton defence stood firm to keep the score 0-1 at half time.
One change was made at half time with Justine coming off and Stacey coming back on up front. For the first ten minutes of the half it was a fairly even affair but once again Carterton failed to clear a corner allowing Charlotte Cairns to put Chinnor two in front. For the final 25 minutes Carterton took control with Sophie crossing from the right, the ball fell to Georgia on the edge of the six yard box but she screwed her shot wide. Further chances fell to Stacey and Georgina but they both put their shots wide (practice will be needed at training)The game ended with a 2-0 victory for Chinnor.
Girl of the Game: Tash for her excellent defensive work.

18.10.08 Hagbourne United 0 v Carterton FC 1

With a game cancelled last week it was good to see the fixture going ahead especially as Hagbourne only had ten players. The starting line up this week was Stephanie Lynas in goal, from left to right across the back was Rebecca Wood, Jodi Bradley, Natasha Jones, and Dawn Slatford. A changed midfield saw Georgia Jackson move forward into the left midfield slot, Charlotte McClarron partnering captain Lucy Moore in the middle, and Gemma Gordon-Smith out on the right of midfield. Up front were Stacey Oakey and Sophie Thomas, with Megan Allsworth, Jenny Whitlock, and Justine Morris on the bench.
Carterton took centre and immediately gave the ball away. Hagbourne took control early on with some simple passing and moving, playing the ball out of defence up the field but the away sides central defenders, Jodi and Natasha held strong with great work by Rebecca and Dawn out wide. Even though Hagbourne only had ten players on the pitch they looked the stronger side and had early chances to go ahead only for a couple of weak shots to be collected easily by Steph in goal. It wasn’t until the 21st minute that Carterton had a clear chance from a free kick 30 yards out. Natasha drilled the ball in, which dissected the defence and running in at the back post was Stacey, who somehow knocked the ball across the goal and not into the net. A minute later Sophie had a chance when she controlled a pass well but her shot was weak and straight at the keeper. The away side made a couple of substitutions to try and freshen things up with Gemma coming off being replaced by Jenny and Charlotte coming off for Justine to make her first appearance of the season after a pre-season injury. Justine was early into action with some timely tackles and some decent passes, playing just in front of the back four giving Lucy the licence to push forward. Five minutes from the half time whistle Sophie was taken off and Megan was introduced up front to partner Stacey. The last few minutes were battled out in the middle of the park, again Hagbourne holding firm.
Half Time: Hagbourne United 0 v Carterton FC 0.
The home team started the second half off but it was Carterton who got their noses in front after 10 minutes when a great ball from Lucy onto Megan who scored her first goal of the season. Megan almost doubled her tally five minutes later when a great run from Jodi, passing the ball to Stacey who put the ball in behind the defence for Megan to run onto, but her shot went over the crossbar. Carterton were forced to make a change when Natasha got another knock on her bruised foot and Sophie came back on to partner Jodi. On 24 minutes Megan had another chance but her shot was wide. Jenny was having a lot of success on the right wing with her pace and strength, when she muscled the ball off a defender and delivered the ball to Charlotte who put an inch perfect pass to Stacey who took the ball in her stride and was just about to shoot, unfortunately for Stacey the defender put in a great tackle to clear the ball. Carterton made a couple more substitutions with Stacey and Megan coming off and being replaced by Natasha and Gemma. Gemma took Jenny’s place out on the right and Jenny moved up front with Natasha. Straight away Natasha was involved in a chance when her quick thinking with Lucy for a short corner resulted in Lucy having a shot just pulling wide of the near post. Another forced change was made when Justine got a knock and Dawn was back on as a defending midfielder. As the home side were tiring, Carterton put pressure on their goal; Lucy had another shot from outside the box but was easily saved. A minute later a persistent Natasha muscled her way through only for her shot to be off target. Jodi again made a great run out of defence with the ball, passing it on to Charlotte who saw Jenny unmarked but again another shot straight at the keeper. A substitution in the last two minutes was made when Charlotte got a knock and Megan was reintroduced.
The final whistle came and a courageous Hagbourne were unlucky not to come away with a point. Carterton had many chances to put the game out of reach but for the poor control and shots at times made it a nail biting game.
Full Time: Hagbourne United 0 v Carterton FC 1.
GOTM was awarded to Justine Morris, again this was awarded to a player who was able to do the simple things very well. Her tackles were solid, she doesn’t panic and not messing around with the ball with great contact sealed her this award.

04.10.08. Swindon Supermarines 3 v Carterton FC 1

A cold blustery October morning saw us travel to Swindon Supermarines for a changed fixture as we were due to play Oxford City away. The team for this tough game was Stephanie Lynas in goal, Dawn Slatford at right back, Jodi Bradley and Natasha Jones as centre backs and Georgia Jackson playing at left back. Laura MacDonogh (LJ) on the right of midfield and Charlotte McClarron playing wide left with Lucy Moore and Laura Meridew playing through the centre. Sophie Thomas was partnering Stacey Oakey up front leaving Gemma Gordon-Smith, Rebecca Wood and Jenny Whitlock on the bench.
Both teams had started the season with a win each but we knew it was going to be a hard fought game. Carterton started the game off and straight from the start played good football but were keenly closed down by a hungry Supermarine team. Carterton got their noses in front from a deep cross from Jodi which was met by Stacey who went past the keeper and from a tight angle managed to shoot, before a late challenge through the back of her. Thankfully the ball ended up in the back of the net and after a minute or so, Stacey got back up and rejoined the game. A minute later a corner for Swindon produced the equaliser when Lucy March met the cross near the back post to side foot it in. Midway through the half some poor play from Carterton gave the ball away and from a cross Charlotte Lancaster was gifted a chance and she took it. We made a substitution and took Dawn off as she had a knock for Rebecca to come on for her first league game of the season after a pre-season injury which had kept her away. Carterton regrouped and started to play with a little more belief with Laura playing some good balls through the defence and LJ working well down the right. Ten minutes before the end of the half, Laura was replaced by Gemma to up the tempo in the middle of the park and Sophie came off for the pace of Jenny to play upfront. A long range effort was teed up for Lucy by Charlotte but unfortunately she missed the target. Charlotte and LJ got a lot of the ball and made good use of it, especially Charlotte who linked in with Lucy and Stacey really well to open up their defence but for some good covering by the home side thwarted any good clear chances.
Half Time: Swindon Supermarines 2 v Carterton FC 1.
Swindon took centre and put Carterton immediately on the back foot and in the first five minutes got two corners. The home side work these very well and put Carterton under extreme pressure but were unable to capitalise. Carterton didn’t seem to settle early on in the half giving possession away cheaply but the charismatic captain Lucy never gave up and put in some strong, timely tackles. Another change for Carterton with Jenny coming back off, Sophie going on playing on the left and Charlotte was moved upfront. A couple of minutes later Natasha went down with an injury to her foot. This unsettled the back line with Stacey dropping back and Laura coming on for Natasha and playing upfront. A minute later a through ball saw Swindon’s Charlotte Lancaster one-on-one with Steph in goal, and she coolly got her second and Swindon’s third. Carterton still believed they could get back into the game and made another substitution taking LJ and Gemma off, replacing them with Natasha and Jenny. Both players went upfront and Stacey joined them leaving only three at the back. Charlotte pulled back out to the left and immediately had a chance to get a goal back only for her shot to be saved. Natasha had a chance in the dying seconds to score but her delayed shot was closed down.

A very physical game with both teams competing hard for the ball. Girl of the Game was awarded to Charlotte McClarron for her calm composure on the ball and doing the simple things very well.

20.9.08 Carterton FC  11 (eleven) v  North Leigh 2

Pre-season has gone very well with the amalgamation of the old U15 and U16 teams. The training and friendly matches have been good and the girls are gelling together well. The first game of the season was a home tie against local rivals North Leigh. This was there first 11 a-side game, stepping up from playing 7 a-side last season.
For the first game of the season we had injuries to Kayleigh Murphy and Rebecca Wood and a prior engagement for Justine Morris, so all three were not available for selection. The starting line up was Stephanie Lynas in goal, centre back partnership of Jodi Bradley and Natasha Jones with Georgia Jackson at left back and Dawn Slatford at right back. Charlotte McClarron played left midfield with Laura MacDonogh (LJ) on the right, the central duo for the start were Lucy Moore (Captain) and Gemma Gordon Smith. Up front we had Sophie Thomas and Stacey Oakey and on the bench eagerly awaiting their chance were Megan Allsworth, Jenny Whitlock and Laura Meridew.
On a beautiful sunny September morning at Monahan Way, North Leigh win the toss and take centre. Carterton were quick out of the blocks and closed North Leigh down, putting the away side under early pressure. This paid off in the ninth minute when Stacey laid the ball off to LJ who put in a great cross in from the right, Gemma mistimed her shot and the ball spilled through to new signing Charlotte who with her un-favoured left foot beat the keeper and it ended up in the bottom left corner of the goal. Three minutes later Sophie crossed the ball in from the left, unfortunately an outstretched Stacey couldn’t get her toe on it. The central duo of Gemma and Lucy pressured the ball when North Leigh had possession giving the defence not much to do. On twenty minutes the away keeper hit a long ball down field, which caught the Carterton centre backs a little too square and Natasha didn’t make it to the flight of the ball letting it bounce over her. Jodi was out of position which gave North Leigh’s Bryony Benett a golden chance to score and she finished it well to level the score 1-1. A couple of minutes later Carterton were on the attack and a resulting corner was met on the volley by Jodi only for her shot to be wide of the target. On 29 minutes Carterton won possession from a North Leigh goal kick, where Stacey shrugged off a challenge and from the left hit a strong shot over the keeper into the top right corner. A couple of substitutions were made with Charlotte coming off and Megan taking her place, Gemma also made way for Laura Meridew. Megan was soon in the thick of things with a strike from the right only for the away keeper to pull off a great save. A minute later Stacey won the ball from a 50/50 challenge and lobbed the keeper, getting her second of the morning. Another substitution saw Jenny coming on to replace Sophie up front. Carterton were given a lot of time on the ball so were able to play the ball around and pick out passes, one such ball from Jodi split the defence and gave the very fast Jenny the opportunity to run onto the ball which she took well and her shot went in off the right upright just before the half time whistle blew.
HALF TIME :- Carterton FC 4 v North Leigh 1.
The second half started strongly for Carterton putting North Leigh on the back foot and a through ball from Lucy gave Stacey her chance of a Hat Trick which she did, slotting the ball in the bottom left corner. A couple of minutes later a mix up in the middle of the Carterton half gifted the ball to North Leigh’s Bryony Benett who got her brace by beating Steph in goal. From the restart a great ball from Dawn gave Stacey the ball out on the right of the box which she struck well and it nestled into the North Leigh net. Dawn was given a break when Sophie came back off the bench to replace her at right back. Another goal came in the 6th minute of the second half when Georgia working well down the left, crossed the ball into the box, Stacey won the challenge and beat the keeper for her 5th goal. Stacey was given a breather, coming off and being replaced by Charlotte. Three minutes later with Stacey off, Lucy took the corner which Charlotte met at the back post and again with her left foot, scored. With five goals scored in the first 10 minutes of the second half the parents on the touchline were very excited. A quiet period ensued which gave us time to make some tactical changes. Jodi came off and Stacey took her place at centre back, also LJ was rested and Gemma was reintroduced taking on a new position at right midfield. Midway through the half a pass on the left wing from Megan to Jenny, who played it onto Charlotte whose shot to the keeper’s left notched up her Hat Trick. North Leigh tried to get out of their half but some strong work from all the midfield players kept the pressure on. LJ was put back on the pitch, moving across to left midfield with Megan coming off, and was into the action straight away with a cross which somehow eventually trickled through to Charlotte for her to score her fourth goal (this made it three with her left foot !!). Natasha was brought off and replaced at the back by Jodi, Charlotte came off and was replaced by Dawn, also Jenny came off and was replaced by Megan. Five minutes from time LJ won possession from a North Leigh goal kick, she shrugged off a challenge and took a shot which beat the keeper, unfortunately it clipped the outside of the post and out for a goal kick. In the final minute from another North Leigh goal kick, a defender flicked it on and the ball ended up in the centre circle which Stacey ran onto and her pass come shot flew off her boot, went sailing over the keeper and into the back of the net for her double Hat Trick.
FULL TIME: - Carterton FC 11 v North Leigh 2.
A great start to the season with some very good football played. The home side were given more time on the ball than they normally get but made good use of it. The whole team played their part in the win. GOTM went to Stacey for her double Hat Trick, but it was made clear that without a strong defence and midfield the forwards wouldn’t of got as many chances.
