02.03.10 Carterton 1 v 1 Hook Norton

A much improved performance from that of Saturday by Hooky saw the Brewery Boys take a deserved point from fellow strugglers Carterton at Kilkenny Lane on a reasonably good surface, given all the wet weather that the area has received of late.
Hooky were once again without the services of French player Eric Laborieux but welcomed back captain Dave Buckwell from his one match suspension. The match also allowed manager Mark Boyland to include 17 years’ old newcomer Harrison Foster for his second consecutive match and, as in Saturday’s match, the young player did not disappoint in a match in which the visitors started well, with Danny Poole working his way into the left side of the penalty area in the first few minutes before having his shot on goal deflected round the post by home ‘keeper James Domm. But, after just 11 minutes, Hooky did go ahead when James Robbins crossed accurately from the right wing to the near post where leading scorer Pete Moulder was first to the ball which he hooked high into the far corner of the net. From this point onwards, Carterton took the play to Hooky, creating a number of chances which they either squandered or in which they were thwarted by the excellent shot-stopping of Joe White. However, after 31 minutes, White was unable to do anything about a well- directed shot from Kevin Lewis which flew into the left side of the Hooky net after good approach work from the same player, following a right wing corner.
Half Time: Carterton 1 Hook Norton 1
The second half was a very even affair, not unlike the first half, with the home team looking marginally more dangerous in attack than Hooky who, nevertheless, created chances of their own, usually as a result of strong right wing runs from the speedy Robbins and the ability of the rangy Moulder to open up goal scoring opportunities for himself and others. That said, Hooky came closest to adding to the score when, on 75 minutes, Foster struck the left angle of the crossbar and the upright with a shot from the edge of the home penalty area. Unfortunately for the visitors, the ball rebounded back into play and the home team were able to clear it. report from Hellenic Web site

23.01.10 Wantage Town 2 v 1 Carterton (goal M Duerden)

Wantage Town 2 – 1 Carterton report received from 'FTL FUTBOL' Hellenic League
Determined Wantage play themselves into second place
Wantage Town nudged their way into second place in the league, overcoming a resilient and hardworking Carterton. The home side’s small, but loyal band of supporters had to endure an edgy and nervous first half, especially when, after four minutes of play, Wantage midfielder Tom Malton neatly laid the ball into the path of Carterton’s front man Michael Duerden, who ran through unopposed to slot the ball past Wantage keeper Rob Durrant to give the visitors an early lead.
On a sticky, but well prepared surface, Wantage stuck to their game plan, patiently building up play, passing and moving, but unable to make the final pass tell. To their credit, Carterton worked tirelessly to frustrate and interrupt their host’s neat but unproductive football. With an early goal conceded, Wantage set about making good the deficit. In the 11th minute, Gavin Jones cut in from the left and clipped in a cross which Danny Keen headed on to the bar. Four minutes later, Keen, looking for his first goal since returning to Wantage from Thatcham Town, turned and shot from the edge of the box, only to see his effort strike the post. Continued Wantage pressure earned them a free kick just outside the box, Tom Austin’s free kick being well saved by James Domm in the Carterton goal. Carterton should have increased their lead in the 35th minute, Michael Duerden being given time and space to work his way through a static Wantage defence, Duerden sidestepping the onrushing Wantage keeper Rob Durrant, only to blast his shot over the open goal. On the point of half-time, James Domm was called into action at the other end, saving well from another Tom Austin free kick.
Half Time 0 - 1
Wantage applied pressure from the start of the second half, and were denied a goal in the 53rd minute, Gary Swann forcing an Austin corner over the Carterton line, but as Carterton keeper James Domm hooked the ball away, the officials ruled that the ball had not crossed the line. Continued Wantage pressure was rewarded in the 61st minute, when Matt Biddle’s low shot from the edge of the box found its way through a mass of players and past an unsighted Domm to put the home side on level terms. A few minutes later Danny Keen beat a couple of defenders to force his way into the Carterton penalty area, his shot being parried by Domm back out into the path of Richie Claydon who headed over. With twelve minutes to go, Manager Richie Bourne decided to refresh the Wantage midfield introducing substitute Liam McCullough with immediate effect. A minute later McCullough was on hand to thread a neat pass through to Tom Austin as the pacey winger broke into the Carterton box, his shot on the run fizzing past Domm to put the home side into the lead. Wantage pressure was sustained to the final minutes and their lead should have been increased as Richie Claydon squeezed a shot through a packed defence, only to see it pass just outside of the Carterton upright.
This was a sound and determined performance from Wantage, overcoming their own sloppiness, and sticking to their task. Wantage have another opportunity to cement 2nd place next Tuesday evening, when they entertain Ascot United in a recently re-arranged fixture, at Alfredian Park.

24.11.09 Carterton 3 v 2 Malmesbury Victoria

match report from Hellenic Web site :- A dramatic looping header from Mark Odom gave Carterton all three points at Kilkenny Lane on Tuesday evening.
The game was played for the majority of the evening in driving rain and strong winds and it was a testament to both sides for the quality of football on display. Using the wind in their favour in the first half, Carterton should have been out of site by half time, the Vics keeper Kurtis Sharkey back from injury was outstanding between the sticks and kept his side in the game.
As early as the first minute Mark Odam found himself through on goal with only Vics keeper Sharkey to beat but the keeper returning from a hand injury was up to the task denying the Carterton striker. Sharkey did the same again to Miles Mason 8 minutes later finding himself one on one the Carterton no 9 found no way past the already busy Vics keeper. A poor clearance from the next attack saw the same two players in the same situation the result the same also. Malmesbury were struggling to cope with the strength of the wind, their first attack on 11 minutes saw a Corcoran strike go wide from an acute angle.
It was all Carterton as the rain drove into the visitors faces, Sharkey repelling wave after wave of Carterton pressure, however he could do nothing when on 27 minutes Mason ran onto a through ball and rounded him to put the home side in front. Twice in the next five minutes Sharkey again denied one on one chances for both Mason and Lewis, and his efforts appeared to pay off when in the 41st minute an Adam Whitefield 18 yard strike found the bottom corner of Domm’s net, credit must go to Vics skipper Webb for his approach work leading to the goal. Almost immediately Carterton went down the other end and had a chance to restore their lead, Odam’s strike saved on the line by Leigh Brown, however the Vics defence stood motionless as Kevin Lewis ran through in the 44th minute, beating all comers and rolled his shot over the line.
Half time 2-1.
The second half predictably saw more pressure from the visitors with the wind now in their favour, Domm saving early strikes from Webb, Gill and Whitefield, as the Vics looked for a second equaliser. However their defence was still looking shakey and uneasy with the pace of the Carterton forward line, and Roper ended up in the book for a foul on Odam on 57 minutes, stopping the tricky forward from bearing down on Sharkey.
Vics continued to press, a Whitefield strike went past the post, a Roper strike from 30 yards just cleared the bar, and Corcoran fired just wide having been set up with good approach work from Gill. Then on 75 minutes substitute Danny Beck finished off a fine team goal converting from just inside the box Gill with the assist. A game of pinball in the box ensued in the home penalty area on 77 minutes, Domm and his defenders denying snap shots from Corcoran, Gill and Webb. The Vics continued to apply the pressure, a good build up down the right from Webb saw no Vics striker on the end of his cross.
With the game appearing to be heading for a 2-2 draw, Carterton stepped up a gear, Sharkey again denying Odam on the break and from the resulting corner clearing his lines. Then in the 91st minute a long looping cross was pumped into the Vics penalty area and Mark Odam who had been denied by Sharkey all evening headed past him for Carterton’s third. Vics mounted one more attack Solan’s free kick evading his team mates and it was the home side who took the points which on the balance of their first half display they probably deserved.

17.11.09 FA Vase 2nd Round Beckenham Town 2 v 1 Carterton

Rescheduled from Sat Nov 14th, FA Vase Round 2 - Carterton FC away to Beckenham Town. Their squad includes Teddy Sheringham..........On 13 July 2009 the club announced that they were in talks to bring former England international Teddy Sheringham out of retirement to play for them during their FA Vase campaign of 2009-10.[2][3] Sheringham had previously played for Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, West Ham United and Portsmouth, amongst others.
On the 8th September Sheringham officially signed for Beckenham Town. (from the Hellenic League) HOME DRAW FOR BECKS Beckenham Town v Carterton
First Reactions from Becks ....Manager Jason Huntley: "I'm delighted with the draw obviously we were hoping for a home tie as we always fancy our chances playing on the surface we have Eden Park Avenue. To be honest I'm relieved we avoided any clashes with the other Kent League sides. It's also nice that we have a break before the next round which gives us time to prepare and look forward to the game"
Secretary Peter Palmer: "I think I'm right in saying its the first time we have ever met a side from the Hellenic League. Its always great to meet new opponents and we look forward to welcoming Carterton to Eden Park Avenue".
Taken from Beckenham Town website: TEDDY SHERINGHAM SIGNS FOR BECKENHAM TOWN
It's not a headline that many Beckenham Town supporters, or for that matter the majority of non-league followers, could ever believe they would see in print. But it became reality on Tuesday afternoon when Becks' Chairman Chris McCarthy obtained Sheringham's signature. Becks expect to complete Sheringham's registration with the Kent League later today (Wednesday). The timing of Sheringham's registration qualifies him to play for Becks in their Carlsberg F.A. Vase tie at Eden Park Avenue on Saturday 19th September against Banstead Athletic. Sheringham is included in Beckenham's squad for Saturday's Bulmer's Kent League game at Holmesdale although at present there is no confirmation from the club as to when the ex England and Manchester Utd star is likely to make his début. However, the Banstead Athletic Vase tie looks to be the more likely match.
Sheringham played at Eden Park Avenue in a recent Fund Raising game alongside his son Charlie and a host of other football stars including Jamie Rednapp, Darren Anderton, Tony Cascarino and rugby legend Matt Dawson.
Becks Chairman, Chris McCarthy, was naturally delighted with his new signing. "We were all thrilled on Saturday that Teddy took time out to phone at half time to see how we where getting on in our Vase tie against Wealden. It's a great time for the club and the local football community"

07.11.09 Ardley United 3 v 2 Carterton

Bulletin No 015/2009-2010 Boot Room Chatter 8th November 2009: Carterton faced a difficult task at Ardley United but only fell by the odd goal in five. Troy Bryan and Danny Mason for Ardley and Jamie Butt and Miles Mason for Carterton made the scores 2-2 at the break. Wayne Blossom’s second half effort was all that separated the sides.

report taken from Hellenic Web site:- Premier Division     Ardley United 3 - 2 Carterton      A highly entertaining game at the Playing Fields saw Ardley United overcome Carterton by the odd goal in five. The home side were boosted by the addition to the squad of Wayne Blossom and Stuart Bridges, as well as the return of Danny Clarke from a lengthy spell out with injury, and it was Clarke who provided the first of a number of good chances for the home side when he provided a good cross for Tom Green whose shot brought a good save from the Carterton keeper. Several chances were spurned by the home side before Troy Bryan put them in front with a header from a Darren Beckett right wing cross. Carterton began to relieve the pressure and were unlucky when a corner resulted in a goal line clearance but they equalised 5 minutes later when Miles Mason turned a defender in the box and volleyed home. Ardley responded quickly with Bryan hitting the bar a minute later, the rebound just too high for Blossom to get his head to. Two free kicks in as many minutes saw a good save from Bridges and then Clarke hit the bar again. Play then switched to the other end and Carterton won a penalty when Mason pulled his namesake down, which Jamie Butt converted to give the visitors the lead. Two minutes later Mark Odom hit the post and when played switched to the other end Ardley won a penalty from a corner which Danny Mason slotted home to leave the half time score 2-2.
The home side continued to press after the break, and in the 55th minute Blossom scored his first for Ardley when he followed up a Bridges shot which the keeper could only parry out. The game continued to see-saw from end to end with Clarke hitting the bar from a free kick and Kevin Lewis striking the underside of the bar for the visitors. Blossom and Bridges both had shots well saved, and in the last minute Blossom was denied by the keepers feet when it looked like he must score, but the game finished Ardley 3 Carterton 2.

31.10.09 Malmesbury Victoria 1 v 1 Carterton

17.10.09 Marlow United 2 v 1 Carterton

report taken from Hellenic Web site:- Marlow appeared to be cruising to a comfortable win with a two goal cushion against lowly Carterton only to suffer a bout of the jitters following a 72nd minute goal from the away team, a goal that came completely against the run of the play as United had dominated proceedings until that point, creating numerous chances in the process.
Both teams appeared short on numbers with Carterton arriving with a bare eleven players and United starting the game with only two named subs. Carterton gained a corner in the first minute which was cleared before the home team launched their first foray into the oppositions half with a move down the left instigated by Greg Corbett involving Nicol and Webb with Nicol’s shot going for a corner. Keeper Domm cleared the kick where Scot Webb eventually shot wide. The away team should have taken the lead on 13 minutes as a long, high clearance found the Marlow defence under pressure, the ball eventually reaching an unmarked Williams in the area who failed to make a clean connection on the ball and watched as his shot drifted wide of keeper Murray and the far post. Marlow responded with the hard working West finding Harman, his shot being blocked before the home team were grateful to Corbett for his excellent tackle to foil a Carterton break. Adam Harmem saw Domm save his effort after the Marlow forward was played into the box leaving him with a with a one on one on the keeper. A cross from the right found Carterton’s Williams well placed but his header lacked accuracy whilst at the opposite end Harman saw his speculative volley hit the bar. Marlow were gaining the upper hand and successive chances came and went with Filmore ,Nicol, Scot Benyon from a corner and West, who fired weakly at Domm failing to find the net. With the half coming to a conclusion Marlow took a deserved lead. A long clearance from Murray found Nicol who in turn fed Harman the ball going for a corner on the Marlow left. West’s perfectly placed corner kick was met by the unmarked Nicol who guided the ball over the line from 6 yards with the half time soon afterwards.
HT 1-0
Carterton began the half in determined style pushing the home team back, Duerden and Dixon both forcing saves from Murray. Marlow snapped back and a through ball found Harman unmarked in the area but yet again he his shot could not beat Domm who saved low down. At this stage the game was very open and Carterton’s Dixon found Duerden in space only for the flag to go up for offside. Marlow’s Filmore volleyed over from a free kick before the home team doubled their lead on 57 minutes following a throw from the right Nicol laid the ball back to Webb, his fizzing cross being deflected into his own net by full back Smales. United were grateful for Lee Ovens who cleared a dangerous cross from under the bar a minute later whilst at the other end Harman spurned yet another great opportunity by guiding his header from West’s superb cross wide from 6 yards. West then fired wide and Nicol tested the keeper from 20 yards as Marlow looked in complete control. That changed 18 minutes from time as a through ball split the United defence allowing Duerden to run unchallenged on goal and slip the ball past an advancing Murray. Suddenly the game took on a different complexion as Carterton sensed they could salvage at least a point. On 73 minutes a free kick was blocked and Evans fired the ball wide as a previous solid Marlow back line looked shaken. Wiltshire saved the home team with a last ditch tackle and shortly after Carterton volleyed over when well placed. Harmen was replaced by Sciaraffa on 82 minutes and the home team’s frustration’s boiled over with two needless bookings as the game entered the final stages. As it was Marlow saw out the last few minutes with Nicol having the final word, his dribble down the goal line ended with Domm saving at the post.
Marlow manager Kevin Carvell was pleased with the three points stating “I am pleased to get the win after a hectic last 15 minutes. We should have sown the game up well before they scored, on another day Adam Harman would have scored a hat trick. That win keeps us at the right end of the table, we now have the task of Shortwood away next week, that will be a severe test”

3.10.09 FA Vase 1st Round Proper Westbury United 0 v 1 Carterton

as written by WUFC for their programme Tuesday, Match Report: UNITED BOW OUT IN TIGHT ENCOUNTER
Westbury United 0-1 Carterton FC
Westbury United went out of the FA Vase after a tight match at a windy Meadow Lane. Carterton overcame a determined effort by Westbury with some strong defending, led by captain Jamie Butt, denying their hosts a second half equaliser.
After Westbury keeper Nick Evans had made a fine save from Daniel Dixon in the opening minutes, his side mounted a series of attacks with Nathan Hallett and Matty Smith creating openings for Dan Kovacs and Wayne Wheeler.
Carterton keeper James Domm saved from Wheeler and, after fine play by Kovacs and Wheeler, Hallett skewed an effort wide.
The only goal came against the run of play on 27 minutes : Dixon played the ball to Michael Duerden who outpaced Mark Young before hitting a great, low 20 yarder past Evans.
Westbury stepped up their pressure before the break and Domm excelled to tip away a fierce Nick Ridout strike after he’d stayed forward. Then, with the half time whistle looming, Matty Smith’s pace set up Kovacs but both he and Hallett were denied by a double save by Domm.
The second half was much tighter with Butt in particular shutting Kovacs out of the game. Westbury’s best chances fell to hard working midfielderTom Robinson who hit two shots from outside the box which were narrowly off target.
Evans made a fine double save from Duerden and Jed Riddy, but it was United who needed to chase the game and they seemed to run out of ideas as full time loomed, with an overhead effort by Young, which went well wide of the goal, the closest they came to forcing extra time.
STAR MEN – Tom Robinson (Westbury United)  Jamie Butt (Carterton)

Hellenic Bulletin No 010/2009-2010 Boot Room Chatter snipet: and Carterton won away at Westbury United, thanks to Mike Duerden’s first half goal

29.9.09  Carterton 1 v 3 Almonsbury Town

From the Hellenic League Chat Room:I watched the Almonds vs Carterton last night and I have got to say I was impressed with the Almonds. I was equally impressed with Carterton, hard to see why they are so low in the table on last nights showing.
Almonds look a very professional outfit and move the ball well and are very clinical in front of goal. Only criticism is that they did look a little suspect at the back.
Carterton also played well and if they had a bit more luck in front of goal and had the Almonds not been so clinical the scoreline could have been quite different.
Overall a good advert for the Hellenic.

Another View:  Almondsbury played well. bit lucky with the first goal, took a deflection, but they had quality all over the park, and took their chances. Your right about the defense, maybe need a experienced centre back. I wish them well in the Cup and League!
Carterton started bright, had a few early chances saved. scored a great goal from distance. what they may lack in quality, they'll make up in work rate. they've lost points in the last few minutes of games, Fairford scored with 2 minutes to go on the weekend. week before Hooky scored at the last kick of the game (thanks to VERY dodgy time keeping by the ref) 4 points dropped. They've brought in a few new faces, hopefully they've started to gel and start moving up the table!
Impressive game though!

26.09.09 Fairford Town 1 v 1 Carterton

snipet from The Boot Room Chatter   Bulletin No 009/2009-2010  Fairford Town drew with Carterton, 1-1. Kevin Lewis put Carterton into a late lead in the 83rd minute but Darren Howell equalized five minutes later for Fairford. Also recorded was - Blast from the Past: Andy Meaden e-mailed me a copy of the team sheet from the 2001 fixture between Fairford Town & Carterton who played at Cinder Lane yesterday. It would seem most of the players from both teams have either moved on or retired. For Fairford only Lee Clark is likely to feature this weekend, Carterton fair slightly better with Gary Smales, Kevin Lewis & Mark Threlfall named in the games line-up.
Interestingly enough the referee for the 2001 game was Simon Hooper of Swindon who is now strutting his stuff at more luxurious surroundings. No game on Saturday as he is 4th Official, live on Sky on Sunday for the Championship game at Home Park, between Plymouth Argyle and Nottingham Forest. Next Tuesday evening he takes charge of Cardiff City v Derby County in the Championship. Another example of a Hellenic League referee done

snipet from Hellenic League Web site: Premier Division   Fairford Town drew with Carterton, 1-1.  Kevin Lewis put Carterton into a late lead but Darren Howell equalized very soon after for Fairford.

19.09.09 FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round Carterton 3 v 2 Newport (IW)

notes in match day programme for the day: Our opponents today for this FA Vase fixture are from the Wessex League and they are no strangers to Kilkenny lane having visited us on Saturday 126th August, 2008 in an FA Cup fixture.  The records show that Carterton won by 2-1 with both goals coming from former Carterton striker Martin Peace.  no doubt our visitors will be out to seek revenge today.  The rules of the competition dictate that should the score be level after 90 mins, extra time of 30 mins duration will be played.  Should the score remain level it will involve us travelling to the Isle of Wight on Wednesday 23rd September KO 7.45.  Let's hope it's finished on the day. - John McCarthy - Secretary

Newport's view: Just got back from the FA Vase match at Carterton. Is it me? Are the lads reserving their worst performances of the season especially for me? I'm gutted...again! What makes it even worse is that Carterton were worse than Wantage, and Wantage were rubbish! It's difficult to put your finger on what went wrong today. You couldn't single out any of the players for playing badly, and you couldn't fault the effort, but as a team we just couldn't get to grips with the physical Carterton team. The first time we put some football together we took the lead, about 30 mins into the match. Well taken strike by Iain Seabrook after a good move. But what turned the match for me was the fact that we immediately let the home team back with some awful defending for them to equalise. The second half was mostly us pushing forward but without really creating chances. There were some, but we gave away two more sloppy goals, albeit well taken by the home players. Two things stood out for me and that was the number of times we gave the ball away cheaply, and the number of times our airey fairy play saw us bundled off the ball. Sorry to be a moaner on here tonight but I don't think anyone can really argue with my summing up. Oh well, onwards and upwards, maybe we will make Wembley next year! Oh and remember this lads, the next time I will probably see you is at Alton in October, hopefully I can make it third time lucky this season!

15.9.09 Carterton 1 (M Duieden) v 1 Bicester Town

notes taken from the match day programme of 19.09.09: Our last home fixture on Tuesday 15th was versus Bicester Town who are another team in the league that are finding it tough going at this early part of the season.  With a strong breeze across the pitch both sides took a long time to settle down and get on with the game.  The home side had the ball in the net in the first half but Michael Duerden was adjudged to have been in an offside position.  Bicester had to wait until after the interval to find the net.  A well struck shot from matt Blenford found the back of the net after 57 mins. The old saying that you are most vulnerable after you score worked as Michael Duerden found the Bicester net after 62 mins with a back header from a cross.  both teams were desperately seeking the winner but had to settle for a draw. John McCarthy - Secretary

12.09.09 Hook Norton 2 v 2 Carterton (Lewis 73, Duerden 78)

snipet from BRC 007: The points were also shared at Hook Norton in a 2-2 draw with Oxfordshire neighbours Carterton. Conor Deveraux started and finished the scoring getting the opener just after the break and netting a last gasp equaliser in the last minute. In between those goals Kevin Lewis and Michael Duerden netted for Carterton

5.9.09 THE FA CARLSBERG VASE     FIRST ROUND QUALIFYING     Clanfield 85  1 v 1 Carterton

The Roving Reporter (Bulletin No 006/2009-2010  Room Chatter) reports on Clanfield v Carterton
Today’s Carlsberg sponsored FA Vase first round qualifying programme threw up a draw matching two sides barely four miles apart when Clanfield played hosts to Carterton.  It was the Premier Division team which took the initiative early on in the game but Clanfield gradually worked their way into it and it soon became a typical end-to-end cup tie.  Despite plenty of endeavour in the first period the only shot to trouble either keeper came from Eddie Everett which Carterton keeper, James Domm smothered from almost point-blank range.  The second half was still very close but at last, after 10 minutes we had a goal.  Mark Odom picked up the ball from 25 yards out and volleyed it into the top corner of the Carterton net to give the home side the lead.  Barely 7 minutes later, Carterton equalised when a break down the right hand side saw James Fleming cross for the unmarked Kevin Lewis to be left with a simple tap-in. With neither side able to break down the opposing resolute defence the game went into extra time.  Both sides were now visibly tiring but Clanfield created one more chance when Bradley Bryant cut in from the right and hit a cross to Adam Webb who was clear and in front of an open goal.  Unfortunately the ball came at an awkward height and all he could do was knee it over the bar.  So tradition was maintained that local derby games are unpredictable and the two teams will have to battle it out once again at Carterton on Tuesday evening

25.8.09 Peagus Juniors 6 v 3 Carterton (Bowles, Stalker, Mason)

22.8.09 Carterton 0 v 1 Reading Town

The Pitch was in excellent condition at Carterton, you could almost say it looked like carpet. I was also very impressed with their clubhouse 4 TV's showing the Ashes coverage and hot food available which was superb.
Now to the action the first half consisted of long balls and a lot of crosses which were to close to the keeper. This meant that the football wasn't that fluent and neither side could keep the ball for a long duration. Though saying that Reading Town did create the better of the chances witch saw their keeper make some fine saves to keep the score at 0-0. Down at the other end meanwhile Chris Grace was revelry ever tested. After the break Carterton made a made start which saw an effort go inches wide, much to the relief of the Reading Town fans behind the goal. Carterton had a few more chances which saw Chris Grace punch from a corner kick and also saving a whizzing shot. There were less long balls and crosses down the keeper’s throat, so that meant the ball was being played more on the deck which saw Reading Town carve out some chances but their keeper was equal to them which saw him produce some good saves. With 10 minutes to go some people might have thought that it's just one of those days where both sides have had chances but have some how not managed to score. Reading Town finally got a goal in the 80th minute courtesy of a Graham Lewis header and it was to be the winner with the Reading boys holding onto all three points. match report from Reading Town

31.10.09 Chairmans Reserve Challenge Cup 1st Rd Carterton Res 0 v 5 Ardley United Res

report from Hellenic Web site: Chairman’s Reserve Challenge Cup - Round 1  Carterton Town Reserves0 v 5 Ardley United Reserves

Ardley travelled to Carteton Town on Saturday for the opening round of the Chairman’s Reserve Challenge Cup and romped home in a 5-0 victory.
Ardley started in a positive fashion, trying to get the ball down on the lovely Carteton pitch and playing their slick passing game. Ardley broke the deadlock after Liam Godin baited a penalty from the Carteton keeper after breaking away from the back four. Godin stepped up himself and needed two bites at the cherry to finally put the ball into the back of the net.
Carteton tried gamely to claw themselves back into the match but were met by a resilient back four and the unflappable Ryan Watts.
Whilst Carteton huffed and puffed to get themselves back into contention they left themselves terribly exposed at the back. Another threaded pass saw Godin scamper away and double Ardley’s advantage by slotting a low drive past the despairing reaches of the Carteton keeper.
Ardley continued to probe the Carteton defence and soon enough added a third and allowed Godin to complete his hat-trick. A clever through ball from Dan Monk caught the Carteton back four square and allowed Godin to smash the ball into the net.
After the half time whistle Ardley continued to look the more threatening side going forward as they soaked up the Carteton pressure quite comfortably. One such move involving Aaron and Dan Monk saw the ball squared to Mark Wickens for the simplest of tap-ins to extend the Ardley lead to four goals.
Ardley weren’t finished their though as Godin capped off a scintillating performance by scoring the pick of his goals. After picking the ball up from a breakaway he went on a mazy dribble ghosting past defenders and thumping the ball past the keeper, sealing a fantastic cup victory for Ardley.
