. - Kidlington 2 v 0 Carterton
report from Hellenic Web site:-
Oxfordshire Senior Cup Semi-Final After over 100
years of trying Kidlington last night made it to the final of the
Oxfordshire Senior Cup, beating Carterton at Banbury’s Spencer Stadium. It
was a nervy match and certainly not one of Kidlington’s best performances,
but in the event Kiddy were the far better of the sides and without a shadow
of a doubt deserved to be the team that came out on top.
Early indications of nervousness were apparent from both sides as neither
team seemed to be able to hold the ball up or do anything positive with it
when they did have possession. Kidlington were set up with a 4 5 1 formation
which flooded midfield and at times this seemed far to congested. Anaclet
Odhiambo was doing his best up front by himself, but far too often the
little man was muscled off the ball. Odhiambo was lively and just waiting
for the right ball to be played through to him and on 15 minutes this
happened. Odhiambo sprinted away up the middle of the park and drew
Carterton keeper James Domm who raced off his line to try and narrow the
angle. Odhiambo attempted to blast the ball past him but in the event fired
straight at the keeper and Domm saved easily taking the ball in his
mid-drift. Kidlington started to turn the screw after this and in the 23rd
minute Mark Flanagan down the left had a great chance. Flanagan picked up a
deflected clearance about 20 yards out, turned inside and hit a powerful
shot which beat Domm but then rebounded off the outside of the near post to
safety. Around this time Kiddy’s Mark Baker was injured in a tackle, he
tried to play on but couldn’t and he had to be taken off, Tom Woodbridge
coming on to replace him. It was all Kidlington as far as goal mouth action
was concerned, though Carterton’s Chris Zolden did get a couple of half
chances from distance but fluffed his attempts at goal with the ball on
these occasions rolling harmlessly wide. Jack Quainton was unlucky with a
rasping drive which whistled over Domm’s bar in the 34th minute after some
really good build up play involving half the Kidlington side. Domm really
had to be on top form in the 44th minute to turn a vicious shot from
Flanagan round the post for a corner, and this came just before Kidlington
finally did take the lead. Anaclet Odhiambo was the one to score it.
Quainton played a smart ball up to him in the middle of the park from where
he was once again one on one with Domm, this time the little man sweetly
lofted the ball over the advancing keeper and Kiddy had the lead their play
had deserved.
HT: 1 – 0.
The second half started with Kiddy on the attack again. A couple of early
corners didn’t provide a second goal but one of them very nearly did.
Flanagan whipped the ball in and Mason rose well to head the ball back
across goal. Domm one handed palmed the ball out from the top corner to
avert the danger. Carterton knew they would need to attack and from a break
away they forced a corner on the right. When the ball was delivered into the
box Mark Threlfall met it with a decent header from distance which needed to
be hacked away from inside the six yard area by Ben Weedon. Kidlington were
immediately pressing for a second goal after this. Another fast moving
attack culminated in the ball falling to Woodbridge on the edge of the six
yard box. Woodbridge hit a rasping drive back across goal which smashed into
the far post, came back across the goal line where Domm was able to smother
it at the far post. Carterton went into all out attack mode after this
incident and you could sense that several players within the Kiddy ranks
were getting nervous about only having the one goal lead. The defence
dropped further and further back, but Carterton were unable to breach them
and Tom McNamara’s goal being well defended went untroubled. A Jordan Parker
free kick in the 73rd minute presented a chance for Mason again. This time
his header had plenty of powere but was just to high. Kidlington introduced
the ‘Big Man’ Jimmy Deabill to the action in the 78th minute to replace Jack
Quainton. Deabill’s first contribution was to square a ball back to Danny
Mason about 12 yards out after a Woodbridge corner. Mason absolutely
leathered the ball into the net for 2 – 0 which in turn instigated a mass on
pitch celebration in front of the large contingent of Kidlington supporters.
With this goal the nervousness evaporated from the whole Kidlington side and
from this point it was a case of just doing nothing stupid, which they did
well. In fact Kidlington had to play the last 5 minutes or so with only 10
men after Ben Weedon sustained a hamstring injury which meant him having to
go off for treatment.
All in all Kidlington were the better side all match and it really should
have been a far bigger winning margin than it was. Kidlington certainly
weren’t at their best, but were always in control, it was really only a
matter of when the killer second goal would come rather than Carterton
netting. I don’t think that keeper McNamara will have many easier evenings
especially in such important games as he did in this one. Carterton for
their part gave their all but were always up against it against this highly
talented Kidlington outfit - COYG!

OXFORDSHIRE FA SENIOR CUP COMPETITION
Following the quarter-final tie played on 25 January 2011 between Carterton
and Oxford City, where the visitors won 2-1, Oxford City included in their
midfield their new signing Nick Dunn who had transferred from Clevedon.
The transfer took place on 21 January which meant that the player had not
been registered for Oxford City the required 7 days. As such the club have
been found guilty of breaching Bye-Law 7e and as such under that Bye-Law it
states ‘Any Club playing an unqualified player shall be adjudged to have
lost the match, or otherwise be dealt with by the OFA.’
The Oxfordshire FA feel that the only appropriate action is to remove Oxford
City from the remainder of this seasons Competition and reinstate Carterton
who will wait to see who they are drawn against in the semi-finals.
The Oxfordshire FA will not enter into further discussions or make any
additional comments on this situation.

after Dan Hilder, Craig Curtis and Ritchie Saunders all found the back of
the net before John Fletcher managed a reply for the visitors.
02.11.10 Carterton 0 v 2 Kidlington
report from Hellenic Web site:- In very blustery
conditions at Kilkenny Lane two first half goals proved the difference
between these two sides, Kiddy had a couple of players missing and Manager
Gordon Geary had to shuffle his pack with starts for Mark Flanagan and Andy
Styles. The strong wind favoured the visitors in the 1st half and in their
luminous orange change strip they looked up for the match as we prepared to
kick off.
As we got underway Kidlington as expected went straight on the offensive,
Carterton keeper James Domm made a fantastic save from a pile-driver of a
shot from Danny Leggett, which looked destined for the top corner, in the
2nd minute. Only a couple of minutes later Domm made an even better save to
deny Jimmy Deabil, after some fine build up play.
Carterton couldn’t keep Kiddy out for long though and Mark Baker opened the
scoring on 7 minutes. Baker was given the ball by Jack Quainton and he
finished smartly placing his shot beyond Domm and into the far corner of the
net,
It was all Kidlington with Deabill seeing a header go wide and then Domm
saved brilliantly from Quainton as Kiddy pushed for a second goal.
That second goal arrived on 19 minutes; Mark Flanagan fired a long ball out
from defence. It was flicked on to Jack Quainton and he did the rest.
Quainton ran in on goal and as Domm came racing out to narrow the angle he
blasted the ball past him for 2 – 0.
On the half hour a Danny Mason header hit a post before both Quainton and
Baker hit shots wide of goal. As the match progressed Kiddy were guilty of
overplaying a bit and not being as incisive as they had been in the opening
20 minutes or so.
Before the break Jefferson Assumpcao came on for his 1st team debut to
replace Styles who was injured in a tackle.
As we finished the half the question was “with the wind still blowing
fiercely were the 2 goal that Kiddy had already netted going to be enoug?”
H.T. 0 – 2.
Kidlington were forced to make another change at half time. Danny Mason
injured his arm and was withdrawn and replaced by Jamie Anderson. Mason was
then taken to hospital and we await further news for the synopsis on his
injury.
Carterton started this half like trains with the wind now firmly at their
backs. John Fletcher blasted a shot at goal from the edge of the area which
smacked the far post and then Tom McNamara was called into action to make a
good save from a vicious drive from Carterton sub Jamie Wyatt.
A few minutes into the half and Kidlington were weathering the storm. A
breakaway by Kiddy’s dynamic mid-fielder Jack Quainton, who sprinted 50
yards up-field for goal, was foiled by a superb save by Domm.
By the hour mark Kiddy seemed to have steadied the ship and were working the
ball around well in mid-field. Flanagan put Baker away down the left and his
cross was met by Deabill. Deabill’s header was initially saved and the ball
fell to Ben Willoughby who shot, only to see the ball flash across goal and
wide of the far post.
Willoughby was unlucky a few minutes later when he got himself into another
good position, but was really unluck when his chipped attempt went onto the
roof of the net with Domm well beaten.
Carterton sensing they had nothing to loose threw everyone forward in the
last few minutes. McNamara saved well from Chris Zoldan and Flanagan had to
be alert a couple of minutes later to head a dipping header from Zoldan off
the line.
Kidlington held firm during this late barrage to take the points which their
1st half goals had secured. By no means was it a classic performance
especially taking into account the conditions and the players missing, but
it was a decent battling win. Carterton are a lively side, but in my opinion
lack that little bit of quality where it counts. Kidlington on the other
hand have quality in abundance and this is what carried them home on a
difficult night here at Kilkenny Lane. - COYG!

CARTERTON 2 - 2 SHRIVENHAM
Two teams desperate for 3 points played out a very entertaining match at
Kilkenny Lane on Tuesday evening.
Early doors & it was very even, then Shrivy burst into life with a neat ball
from Jimmy Griffin who feeds Coxy, he then whips over a teasing cross, but
no Shrivy player there. Carterton then have a series of no less than 5
corners in quick succession, which Shrivy manage to deal with. Dave Kembrey
makes a last ditch tackle in the box to clear the danger for Shriv. Martin
Stratford then closes down & wins the ball deep in the Carterton half &
picks out Silvo, he crosses deep for James Keller to bicycle kick inches
over the bar. 20 min in & Carterton have a free kick. Adams in the Shrivy
bar claims & is fouled in the process, as the loose ball is headed into the
net, Shrivy free kick. Silvo then goes on one of his mazy runs, beating 5
players before he is fouled on the edge of the box & Shrivy have a free kick
in a dangerous position. Griffin takes & bends it round the wall but Domm in
the Carterton goal tips round for a corner. Silvo delivers & Keller back
heels against the crossbar & the ball falls invitingly into Domm’s hands.
Carterton go on the attack & a good ball into the box is headed clear by
captain Rory Sproule, but only to the edge of the box where a Carterton
player blasts wide. Adam’s is then called into action again as he tips a
shot onto the bar & away for another Carterton corner. Chris Cox cuts out a
cross field pass & is on the counter attack, he delivers a delightful ball
to the back post where the Carterton defender gets there before Keller & a
corner is conceded. Shrivy have a corner & Silvo takes, it’s cleared back to
him & he cuts inside & shoots for goal, but a Carterton defender is there to
head of the line
HT: 0 - 0
Carterton are quick out of the blocks & Adams pushes a shot round his post
for a Carterton corner. Sproule then picks out Coxy with a long-range pass,
he in turn finds Silvo who lets fly & the ball goes over the bar. 54 min’s
Goal Carterton player shoots woefully wide of the goal, & as every is
watching it go wide, but the Carterton striker is there to stick out his
boot & divert the ball into the Shrivy net. Keller has a good chance to
strike back immediately for Shrivy as he pounces on a weak back pass. But he
doesn’t worry Domm as he shoots into the keeper’s arms. Marsh then makes 2
crunching tackles in the Shrivy box & clears the danger. 68 min Goal Travis
plays a wonderful through ball to Coxy who just gets to it before Domm
upends him & it’s a penalty. Rory steps up & sends Domm the wrong way 1-1.
70 min Goal Shrivy free kick, Rory picks out Coxy who does well to win the
header, Silvo picks it up, passes it back to Coxy who strikes the ball with
the outside of his boot & the ball nestles in the bottom of the net. 75 min
Goal Carterton break & the ball is in the box, Marsh jumps & is adjudged to
have led with his elbow & a penalty is awarded. Up steps Carterton player &
sends Adams the wrong way 2-2 Hibberd then does well for Shrivy, holding the
ball up & winning a corner. Silvo plays a good ball to the back post, but no
one there. Carterton look for the winner & from a corner the big striker has
free header, but Adams acrobatically tips it over.

Yellamen Lose their Way
Ascot hosted Carterton on a fairly cold afternoon. With the challengers for
the league title not in action today, it was ideal for Ascot to create
breathing space between the opposition, after a goal galore on Wednesday
night Ascot had bundles of confidence in front of goal being brought into
today’s game. Many of the senior players rested on Wednesday came back into
the squad today.
In the first ten minutes of the fixture Ascot were the better side; chances
from Bennett when Saunders skilfully curled the ball down the line into the
path of Bennett who cut inside well and fire a low shot at the near post
which was well stopped by Donn, shortly after Gier played an effective wall
pass of Boon and whipped in a teasing cross to McIntyre who volleyed the
ball just over the bar from the back post. However the quality in the final
3rd was inadequate to gain return. The Ascot midfield seemed to be set on
playing that ‘million dollar pass’ which just either run out of play or came
to nothing.
On 30 minute Carterton broke through Lee was played in well from a skilful
pass in between Jacobs and Curtis, he looked to hit a driven cross along the
six yard box grace saved the intiall cross low down with his feet but
unfortunately Brooks whom was trying to mop up at the back ran into the
loose ball and it rolled into the Ascot goal.
Carterton came within touching distance of a second two minutes from time,
Bostock was played through on goal he fired a powerful shout towards goal
but Grace met it with and excellent diving save.
HT: 0 – 1
The five minutes after half time Ascot was more positive. Saunders came
close to levelling the playing field, his clever touch and the momentum of
his speed took him through the back line and he fired a shot into King for a
corner. On the 67th minute Carterton converted an opportunity from what
seemed was a ‘lost’ cause. Brooks ‘sold’ Saunders short, Bostock latched
onto the weak pass twisted and turned his way through the Ascot back line
and one on one with Grace, despite his best efforts at coming off his line
to meet the Striker, Bostock coolly stroked the ball into the bottom corner.
From then on it went from bad to worse as far as Ascot was concerned. A
string of six corners for Yella’s gave no end product, each time the ball
was delivered the Carterton back line held firm and headed the ball away.
Gier did make contact with one of Saunders crosses but again the Carterton
back four cleared it off the goal line. From then onwards Ascot had two
sending offs; Brooks for a second bookable offence and Standing for dissent.
As time wore on Ascot’s ball retention seemed to have weekend.

report taken from Hellenic Web site:- Bluefin Hellenic
Challenge Cup – 1st Round Carterton 6 - 2 Binfield SECOND HALF HORROR SHOW
Carterton turned the form book upside down on Saturday afternoon, with a
deserved thrashing that the Moles will want to put behind them quickly.
Before the match, Carterton had won just once this season and Binfield had
only lost the same. And up to half time, the game looked exactly like that.
Although Mark Tallentire had made several changes, Binfield played a strong
side and took the lead when Garry Sergeant was brought down from behind in
the second minute and Carl Davies maintained his perfect record from the
spot. The first half continued with Binfield totally dominant and Carterton
struggling to make any penetrating attacks. Dan Weait in the Binfield goal
had little involvement in the game and Carterton didn't have one shot on
target in the first half.On 43 minutes James Rogers doubled Binfield's lead,
blasting home from the edge of the 6-yard box, after good work down the
right from Davies. In between those two goals, Binfield had wasted several
other good chances to extend their lead and really should have been further
ahead.
HT: 0 - 2
So the second half started with most of the small crowd of 32 expecting more
of the same - but perhaps so did the Binfield players and within moments
they were back in a game. Carterton scored within a minute of the restart
and then took control. In attempting to keep that goal out, Dan Weait
injured his back and although he carried on to the end of the match, he was
clearly moving awkwardly and in some pain. But it would be wrong to say that
had a major influence on the result as Carterton poured forward at every
opportunity and exposed an unusually ragged Binfield defence that is the
meanest in the Hellenic Premier League so far this season. On 56,
Carterton's equaliser came after Binfield lost the ball on the halfway line
and a Mark Threlfall shot from 20 yards rolled into the bottom corner. 4
minutes later, Carterton took the lead from a free kick to the far post that
was headed in off the bar by Chris Bowles. Three further goals came in the
last ten minutes as the Moles capitulated.
Manager Mark Tallentire was “surprised and concerned at the way we were
taken apart as the game wore on. Although the injury to Dan Weait didn't
help and looked to have a hand in the second and third goals for Carterton.
Typically we have had a reserve keeper on the bench for the last 6 games and
today we didn't! But we look ahead now and will work hard to put right our
mistakes in this game"
A half to forget for Binfield and they now must look ahead to next
Saturday's FA Vase tie with Hillingdon Borough aiming to play as they can
for 90 minutes.
21.09.10 Pegasus Juniors
1 v 1 Carterton
report from Hellenic Web site:-Pegasus Junior’s 1 – 1
Carterton
Pegasus Juniors entertained Carterton at Old School Lane, Hereford, with
both teams requiring the points to climb away from the basement of the
league. The home scored after a quarter of an hour with the visitors gaining
parity shortly before the half time break. This was a game where goal
scoring opportunities were few and far between. Manager Paul Wilband making
his home debut was forced to make on change from the team that bowed out of
the FA Carlsberg Vase at the weekend as Tom Boyle was at university. Andy
Mowen who was unavailable for that game replaced him in midfield.
Justin Sklenar and Justin Halfpenny, both of whom were making their home
debut combined before Sklenar fired inches wide of the upright. In the
fourteenth minute Halfpenny raced to the byeline and crossed the ball to the
far post where Chris Mortlock had the simplest of tasks for a headed goal.
The home side continued to dominate in a physical game but, failed to
seriously test the visiting goalkeeper. In the forty first minute, Pegasus
gave away possession on the halfway line and Dom Fletcher lashed the ball
home from twenty yards although Liam Brewer did get a hand to the ball he
was unable to prevent the goal.
HT: 1 – 1
On the hour mark Mowen won possession in his own half before setting Sklenar
free with a sublime defence splitting pass but he fired straight at keeper
James Domm. Shortly afterwards Domm pushed a shot from Matt Maturi away fro
a corner kick, Mark Davies was unable to keep his headier on target. The
last quarter of an hour saw Pegasus launch a series of attacks; Mortlock
latched onto a pass from Mowen but Domm did well as he blocked the lob from
the striker with his chest. The home hit man received a pass from Ross
Powell but, fired wide under a heavy challenge. In stoppage time a Maturi
free kick was headed by Mowen to Mortlock who chest trapped the ball before
volleying wide of the target.
This must be considered as two points dropped but one point is better than
none.

Round Up: Struggling Carterton were beaten in an eight goal thriller by
Bracknell Town despite leading with 10 minutes to go. The score was 2-2 at
the break thanks to John Fletcher and Dave Bostock for Carterton and Ben
Knight and Liam Woozley for the visitors. Kevin Lewis then scored to put the
home team ahead but in a final flurry, Richard Mills, Rob Yorke-Goldney and
Ben Knight with his second, settled it for Bracknell
report from Hellenic Web site:-
Carterton 3 – 5 Bracknell Town ROBINS WIN EIGHT GOAL THRILLER
Bracknell Town made very heavy weather in defeating their hosts Carterton
but did eventually secure all three points against the second bottom side in
an eight goal thriller.
Leading by three goals to one at the interval and looking comfortable, the
Robins had a nightmare fifteen minutes which saw the opposition draw level
before two late goals ensured the Larges Lane side won through. With Dan
Tillson still suffering following his concussion, 18 year old goalkeeper Tom
Walker made his first competitive start, whilst new signing Richard Mills -
a former Bracknell youth player signed from Ascot United - was handed a
place on the substitute’s bench.
The scoring was opened with the first real attack in the 5th minute. Ben
Knight cut inside from the left and under no real pressure was able to
square the ball along the six yard box to Liam Woozley who stumbled but was
able to turn the ball home at the second time of asking. The home side drew
level in the 13th minute as Danny King picked out Jonny Fletcher who hooked
an effort over Walker with defender Sam Wyatt unable to clear off the
goal-line. Knight got on the score sheet soon after as the sides remained
level for only eight minutes. Sam Whiting robbed Neil Sparkes and sent a
looping pass over the full-back Gary Smales and Knight raced in ahead of
Smales before coolly lobbing the onrushing James Domm in the Carterton goal.
Kevin Lewis and Danny Bostock both missed two chances to bring their team on
even terms for the second time as each player was denied once by Walker and
failed to hit the target once with Lewis' missed effort only just whistling
past the right upright. On 43 minutes the misses were punished as the lead
was extended with Knight's second goal of the match. Whiting laid the ball
out wide to full-back Dave Hancock as his excellent cross was nodded down by
Callum Whitty into the path of Knight who made no mistake with his finish to
find the top left hand corner.
HT: 1 – 3
Carterton came out at the start of the second half completely fired up and
were soon in their stride on an excellent pitch with Bracknell all at sea
defensively for the first twenty minutes. Lewis once again narrowly missed
the target before two goals in a three minute spell just shy of the hour
mark saw the hosts draw level. Firstly, Walker did superbly well to tip
Danny Moscrop's header onto the bar and out for a corner but from the
resulting corner, Bostock was able to slot home his follow up after his
initial shot had come back off the crossbar. Shortly after and a three on
three quick break saw Lewis run with the ball down the right before smashing
home a fizzing acute drive into the corner for a fantastic goal.
Opportunities were traded by both teams and Walker twice kept Bostock at
bay, whist Dean Thomas and Robert Yorke-Goldney failed to hit the target for
the visitors. Walker denied Si Thompson in the 87th minute with a point
blank save and the match turned once again as the Robins went straight down
the other end to score. Steve Ryan surged forward and after a neat one-two
with Yorke-Goldney, Ryan was able to cross the ball with substitute Mills
finishing at the far post. The three points were secured in the first minute
of stoppage time as Richie Goddard's free-kick was headed in by
Yorke-Goldney who climbed high to direct his header over Domm and into the
far corner.
A tough, tough encounter for Steve McClurg and Richard Whitty's side who
will be relieved to get back to winning ways. Carterton can feel slightly
aggrieved not to get something from the match and more victories will surely
follow for them.
It is a tough week for the Robins now as they host two of the division's
fancied teams. Firstly, Flackwell Heath visit Larges Lane on Tuesday evening
before Shortwood are the visitors on Saturday in what is a 5.30pm kick-off
as it forms part on the Hellenic ground hop weekend.

get into gear. Tom Perry headed heading just wide from a well won corner, as
Carterton dominated play. Tucker was the busiest Wantage player, saving well
from Mark Threlfall in the 14th minute, and then pushing a Carl Williams
effort over the bar in the 16th minute. Against the run of play, Wantage
took the lead in the 18th minute, Scott Dewar finding Graham Edney wide on
the right, Edney beating his defender to cross to Danny Keen who controlled
the ball before sweeping in a left footed drive from the edge of the box. A
few minutes later Dewar again was the playmaker, this time feeding a ball
through to Keen, who fed Richard Claydon, Claydon’s shot striking the post.
Back came Carterton, Gareth Tucker being forced into action again, before,
on 26 minutes, Lewis hit the post with a well struck free kick, and Wayne
Moscrop’s shot went narrowly wide. Wantage rallied in the latter stages of
the half, Graham Edney’s run through the heart of the Carterton defence
ending with a shot well saved by James Domm in the Carterton goal, and Scott
Dewar also forcing Domm into action with a shot from distance.
HT: 1 - 0
The half time break refreshed the home side, as Wantage were quickest out of
the blocks in the second half. Their early pressure on Domm’s goal leading
to a second goal, as Richard Claydon struck the woodwork for the second
time, the ball rebounding to Sam Belcher who hit a fierce drive past Domm in
the Carterton goal. Wantage maintained the pressure, Claydon squaring the
the ball across the face of the goal for Tom Butler to turn in their 3rd
goal on 52 minutes. Substitute Gavin Jones instigated Wantage’s fourth goal
in the 70th minute, sliding the ball through to Claydon, whose quick turn
and pass fed Danny Keen, who made no mistake from close-in. Four minutes
later, Graham Edney drove down the right, and neatly played in Richard
Claydon, who finished sharply past the luckless Domm, for Wantage’s fifth
goal. With Wantage maintaining their second half dominance, Claydon had a
hard drive headed clear by Carterton defender Danny King, and Wantage
substitute Liam McCullough netted only to have the goal disallowed as Gavin
Jones was ruled offside.
To their great credit, Carterton never stopped running, and had Gareth
Tucker in the Wantage goal not been on form, particularly in the early
exchanges, this result could have been very different.

Chatter 22nd August 2010 Ardley United stamped their authority on
Carterton, scoring five times without reply courtesy of a hat-trick from
Danny Bone, and goals from Troy Bryan and Murray Nicholls. They have now
scored at least three goals in each of their four opening matches.

5 - 0 CARTERTON
A first half Danny Bone hat-trick saw Ardley United on their way to a
comfortable win at home to Carterton on Saturday.
The visitors were given no time to settle as Ardley opened their account in
the 2nd minute when Troy Bryan held off a challenge in midfield to feed
Jordan Ayris on the right, and his low cross was turned into the net by
Bone. This feat was repeated 20 minutes later, Ayris this time fed by Murray
Nicholls, but the outcome was the same with Bone firing into the roof of the
net. Barely 10 minutes later Nicholls defence-splitting pass was expertly
placed past the despairing grasp of James Domm in the Carterton goal by a
jubilant Bone to complete his hat-trick. Things got worse for Carterton
after 39 minutes as Bryan surged forward to out-pace the defence and put
Ardley 4 up at the break.
The second half continued much as the first had finished, with Bone and
Nicholls exchanging passes just 3 minutes in, to enable the latter to make
it 5-0. Despite their continued dominance, Ardley were unable to add to the
score-line although substitutes Jason Castello and Andrew Stidder (twice)
both hit the woodwork. At the other end, Kurt Fox in the Ardley goal enjoyed
a quiet game for the second match in succession following the previous
Tuesday’s similarly convincing performance at Highworth.

criticize each other we should continue to improve.

taken from the league web site:-Second Half Performance
Overpowers Carterton
A stunning second half performance from Shortwood sent them quickly
off the mark in the UHL Sport Hellenic League this season. Carterton will be
disappointed to have lost by so many after a first half performance that saw
them utilise the space on the flanks well and create several good
opportunities. In that difficult period Joe Macklin stood like a rock at the
heart of the Wood defence, made several telling blocks, and thoroughly
deserved his man of the match award. Wood were impressive going forward
themselves and could have been in front if either of two extremely valid
penalty appeals had been given.
Both sides attacked from the start and the game was entertaining from the
off. Bennett did well to clear a header from Bostock, Holder just cleared
Pearce’s bar with a drive and Wood’s Parrott sent a chip just over. After 22
minutes a fine low cross from Parrott found Mike Green who was about to side
foot the ball home when he appeared to have his ankle clipped and he went
down. Green needed treatment and later had to be substituted. Minutes later
a Bennett cross was handled in the box but Wood’s appeals were waved away.
King sent a header wide as Carterton responded and Pearce saved well from
Duerden. Jody Bevan indulged in a private battle with keeper Domm but Domm
responded with several good saves to deny the Wood striker and somehow the
score remained blank at the break.
HT: 0 - 0
Wood tightened things up in the second half although they had one escape
when Bostock hit the outside of the post. Wood started to take command after
that and pushed their hosts onto the back foot and the opening goal, after
56 minutes was a beauty. Ross Casey fed Jake Parrott and he let fly from 25
yards – the ball taking a slight deflection as it flew past Domm. 3 Minutes
later Pugh’s corner was headed powerfully by Casey and although it was
blocked on the line Alton Axton was on hand to knock the ball home. Wood
were in charge now. Domm saved superbly from a Pugh flick and Allard spanked
a shot against the Woodwork from 25 yards. Carterton still looked dangerous
when they did break and Macklin made another timely intervention. Wood never
stopped pushing forward though and in the last minute Mish Green was fouled
on the right and Pugh fired the free kick low and hard towards goal. Domm
parried the effort but Rich Evans battled well and forced the ball home from
close range. Deep in injury time Coates did well to win the ball and fed
Allard whose cross was knocked away by Domm but only to the lurking Mish
Green who calmly stroked the ball home.
Afterwards a pleased John Evans said: “That was very satisfying! It was a
great second half after we stepped it up. Joe Macklin was superb at the back
– especially when things were tough in the first half!”
extracts taken from our home match program 14.8.10:- We opened the
2010/11 season with a home fixture against Shortwood United. We were
under no illusion that it would be anything but an easy fixture. We
had a few chances in the first half but were unable to make them count.
Goalless at half time was a fair result.
In the second half we let our discipline slip & started to argue amongst
ourselves. It was soon capitalised on & we soon found ourselves a goal
down after the hour. We still continued to press on in the vain hope
of getting an equaliser but soon found ourselves 2 goals behind. The gaffer
made a few tactical changes but Shortwood demonstrated why they are the
league favourites by bagging another brace. Final result 0-4.
