Aging is happening to all of us. We can’t escape it. And, as the saying goes, “it’s not for sissies.” Watching my mother, who lives with me, age is a real eye-opening experience. Not only that, but I’m aging, too. Inside I feel very young, but the exterior tells me otherwise. Maintaining a good diet is important at any age in order for us to stay healthy. But as we get older we need to make sure we are getting sufficient nutrients so that we not only stay healthy but that we also have plenty of energy.
Besides various types of physical activity for a healthy ageing there are something you should avoid from doing, restrict something in some manner. For example, intake of some harmful substances like nicotine, OTC drugs that affects your sleep etc. Smoking and drinking should be avoided. Step up your fitness routine. As you age, the muscles need even more activity to stay strong and tight. Schedule 30 minute walks, five days a week. Switch it up with strength workouts twice a week. This keeps your body in shape and assists in keeping other aging issues at bay.
Do something: This could be any activity you find interesting. Whether it is reading, writing, photography, swimming, dancing, cooking, pot-making or gardening, it does not matter. You need to just do it.
One of the best physical activity and most accepted physical activity is walking. It relieves us from stress and anxiety. It makes our muscles, our body loosen. By doing so it ensures a sound sleep at night which will ultimately help us waking up early in the morning with lightened mood. This helps our spiritual health also.
If you start a walking program for yourself, it is a lot more fun to do it with someone else than alone. So call a friend or family member that can find time to walk with you. Just think, if you found someone to keep you company, you can talk about different things that could eventually lead to stress relief and get in your exercise as well. They will be appreciative that you thought about them and both of you will be accomplishing something great. After taking a walk, be sure to cool down because after walking at a certain pace you need to relax and bring your heart rate to a normal pace. Always remember though that when you walk it doesn’t have to be for a long period of time but just walking 30 minutes a day can make a difference.
